Wireless lan doesn't stay connected - P3600 General

Maybe there's an obvious answer to this question... when I turn off the screen on my trinity the wireless connection gets disconnected and only reconnects once I turn the screen back on. I use Skype mobile a lot and would like to stay connected even when my screen is off. Is there a way to turn off the screen without interrupting the wlan connection?
Thanks in advance

You are pressing the wee button on the side?
Thought so, you are putting the handset into a sleep type mode (probabley be some one along with a more technical definition) but you are not just turning off the screen.
Search round the forums IIRC there is a fix that just switches off the screen without snoozing the handset

There are some utilities for Screen Off as opposed to Standby, and as deech says, you should be able to find one. SpB Pocket Plus and SBSH iLauncher are commercial apps that have that facility.
But the reason WLAN goes off when in standby, is that it uses a lot of power, so even with the screen off, you would find the battery only lasts a short time with WLAN continuously active (3-4 hours?).

Auto screen off during phone calls?

Hello,
In the past I am sure that my display screen went off after a certain time during a phone call (saving on battery life). I have noticed recently that the screen stays on the whole time, regardless of call length. I have looked through all the settings I can think off, and can't seem to find one relevant to auto screen shut off during a call.
I have installed Pocket Bluetooth Tools and PocketZenPhone (previously I was using Myhonerofiles).
Is there a setting I am missing, or some software that I can use to have an auto screen shut off during a call.
Many thanks for any help.
The screen will not turn off if Bluetooth headset is being used.
Normally, the screen will not turn off if there is any serial port activity (like while connected through activesync)
Are you sure that in Settings/Backlight/Bttey Power: the "Turn Off Backlight" option is selected?, it should be selected to turn the device screen off after 30 seconds or so.
I use a car kit running on bluetooth, and the screen goes off after 30 seconds!
I've set both the power and the back light to go off after 1 minute. There is not normally a problem and the screen powers off ok, unless I'm on a call (with or without a bluetooth headset).
There is an option in JGUI Phone Profiles that does this.
If you no longer have it installed then you won't get that effect.
When I uninstalled Phone Profiles I missed the screen off option so much I reistalled it just for that.

So does mine.
After installing Pocket Bluetooth Tools (PBT), my screen won't turn off while on call. If I do turn it off during a conversation, my bluetooth headset cuts out while the other person is still on the phone and won't be able to recover it until I hang up.
If I have the timer working for the PBT, then my autoshut off will work, but that's after I change the timer from 60 seconds to 10 seconds in the registry. If I disable the timer, the autoshut off will work. So if you don't want to play around with the registry, then I suggest leaving PBT timer on.
But either way, if the timer is on or off, during a call, it won't turn off automatically with PBT installed. I like PBT because I was able to quickly connect to my headset faster than the built-in MS Bluetooth Stack.
I guess its a case of balancing the use of Pocket Bluetooth tools with the power saving function of having an auto screen cut off during a call. I'm not sure what is more important to me just now.
I am reluctant to return to My Phone Profiles. I am really enjoying the latest version of PocketZenPhone. I think I will make a request to have autoscreen included in a future version. Who knows, I might get lucky!

IF you have Pocket Bluetooth installed, then while on call, it will not automatically turned off. But if you turned it off manually, while on call, it will cut out from the bluetooth headset and I find no way to get it back yet.

BT Activesync keeps my phone on

Do you guys also have it that when you sync via bluetooth and you switch your phone off, it comes on again after a few seconds.
Now I don't want this as this drains the battery. It should stay off and sync.
Media Player still plays when the screen is off, can't remember where you change those settings.
It's like that. Indeed, it would be nice if there is an option to turn off screen completely but still connected via activesync to save power.
You can turn off the backlight of the screen to save power.
Regards,
Arto.

Take a look at the PHM PowerTools suite. That's a bunch of small utilities, one of them is a screen-turn off utility. Not just backlight, entire display is off but device is on the go.
Where can I download this PHM Powertools? I have searched on Google and found nothing, except a lot of links where they mention it in forums etc.
I use MortSaver to lock the screen. Free download here: http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/wmpdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=7
Is there a tool that disconnects bluetooth when i turn it off with the power button (and the device stays off) and reconnects when it is turned on again?
How about the alternative bluetooth stacks - do they have the same behaviour?
The "turn on" feature is really annoying...

Backlight Issues!

Guys its one thing after another!
This thing is in urgent need of a Rom Update!
The back light doesnt turn off after the specified time! Not completely anyway.
What happens is that it just dims out to a very low backlight and still stays on!
The same thing happens even when its connected to activesync on the pc!
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance for any help anybody can provide.
Dead Cell.
I think that is normal behavior. If you need your backlight off while the device is still running, I think there are 3rd party apps that can take care of that. The only time I want that option is when listening to music, and TCPMP can map a button to toggle the screen off.
If your phone is connewcted to PC then it's powered and stays on low light setting when not used. But if you disconnect it from power/pc, after a specified time, the screen turns off. At least on mine. However, when listening to music the screen never turns off.

My Prophet backlight used to go completely off while the device could actually be on, pressing the D-pad could bring the screen backlight on again. It was still possible to see that the screen was on by holding it up to a bright light.
When unplugged from the power supply, my observation has been that the Trinity back-light doesn't go completely off, it changes from normal brightness to very very dim, but not off. It goes completely off when the device goes into standby.
I use Mortplayer for listening to music, which has a feature that turns the screen off, not just the back-light, which saves a lot of battery power.

Not neccessarily... It has a setting on the Battery option where you can select the amount of time after which the back light goes off both on battery power and external power.
Anyway mine stays on even when its not connected to the PC ie, external power.
It just goes dim after the specified amount of time and stays like that untill the device goes off.
Thanks.
When you say 'goes off' do you mean 'enters standby'? When not connected my p3600 dims the backlight after 30 seconds. Two minutes later it enters standby (that's the time I set it up from settings). However it only enters standby if I don't listen to music.
Hi,
I noticed the same proble, I never the used the original Rom coming with the Trinity cos I bought it last Sat and I installed the DOPOD test rom with GPS support straight away.
With my TYTN when I'm on a call after a while (a minute) the screen togles, however with the TRINITY the screen stays on (brightness goes away) but still there (no togle).
Can somebody with a non-gps dopod rom confirm that they do not suffer this behaviour?
thanks,
Elsral
My Trinity is still original (Dutch). When in the backlight settings, I slide the indicator all the way to the left, the backlight still is on (very low, but it is still on).
A colleague of mine has a Hermes; when he does the same thing, his backlight is off completely.
Also, before the P3600, I owned an Ipaq 5550 which also was able to switch backlight off completely.
Hope this is corrected in a future ROM update...

German Trinity Original ROM here. The device switches the screen completely off after the amount of time I have selected. It is the same behaviour that I know from my other pocket computers and it seems completely ok. Something wrong with the Dopod ROM?

Standby button turns wifi off

My problem really is that from time to time screen turs off/freezes because of faulty connector tape between it and main unit (as far as I know). for the time being I can't fix it so I have to live with it. When this happens all I have to do is to press standby twice, so it is not very hard, except for the fact that when I put Wizard into standby, wifi disconnects, and I have to wait for it to connect again. Now this is very annoying! My question is whether it is possible to disable this, so that wifi stays on even when I press standby, maybe a simple registry hack or dedicated application... any ideas?

Shortcut to power off and WiFi on power on

I've been busy reworking my 8125 as a dedicated GPS unit for use in my car. I've been using WM5SE from dferreira as a lightweight and stable ROM with much success. I do however have two slight issues that I would think should be easy to overcome.
First - I want a one-button click-an-icon way to shutdown the phone. And by shutdown, I mean totally off. I've run across a number of different options and every single one of them winds up doing the same thing - the phone goes into suspend, but is not actually off. Any ideas as to what I can do to just get the damn thing to turn off without trying to hold down the power button?
Second - when I turn the phone back on, the WiFi connection defaults to being powered off. Is there a way to make the WiFi hardware turn on by default?
