Hi All,
I'm traveling from the US (Cingular 8525) to England and Ireland next week. I spoke with the AT&T guys and they said it's quite expensive for data usage there if I'm internationally roaming. I'm currently running WM6 Black Shadow at the moment (which changes frequently). Is there a surefire way to disable the data connection so that even if I accidentally hit my Internet Explorer button or my email tries to sync, it's blocked? Ideally this would be some switch I could easily toggle. Also, does anybody have an idea how much text messages would be if I sent or received them while abroad?
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance!

Check out Paul at modaco. He's written an app, IIRC, that does this.

Easiest thing to do......delete your GPRS settings?? (obviously write them down)
Even easier ... You can set up a connection in settings->connections->connections with obviously incorrect values for AccessPoint (none.att), username ([email protected]) and password (wrongpw), and then set that as the locked connection while you're traveling. Then you can easily toggle it on & off as needed.

BTW, This thread shouldn't be in the WM6 Forum. Would have fit better in the General Hermes section, I think, where mikechannon would've been happy to assist.

Hi,
I just unlocked my XDA II and I'm using a Vodafone SIM in it. How do I utilize GPRS, WAP and Modem connectivity with this SIM? Is it possible to get rid of all the O2 crap installed on it, i.e. "clean" it up properly?
A new skin would be cool!
Cheers,
--
Thomas
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=11
you are by no means the first who ask this question
And what's the answer? Is it possible at all?
--
Thomas
yes it possible the xda is not limited to o2 in anyway
you just have to set it up
to do this you need to know the connection point your provider use for mms, grps and wap (if you also want that)
there are many posts which explane how you set it up in the network forum
but if you cant find any i could explane it step by step i suppose
i dont know much about o2's settings but if it's today stuff you can turn it off under today in settings
otherwise you can always make your own rom at www.yorth.net and get a more pure non o2 custom rom
you can get tons of skins as in today skins on many sites
and at yorth.net you can also get phone skins or have explaned how to make them yourself
Works fine now, thanks. Vodafone's acces point is named 'internet' (which was easy to read off the SIM), and the user/passwd is web/web (had to call them up to get that). So GPRS works fine. Needs some more info to set a Modem connection, but it shouldn't be hard.
The reason for my original posting, was that I was lead to believe that O2 had "locked" the device, which is not the case at all.
Anyway, thanks for info. Btw, the link you mention does not work...
Cheers,

my bad

spelling issue
Ttm, I'm confused. I am in the same situation as you (xda II with vodafone sim), yet i cannot connect GPRS using your settings. The settings I connect with are APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk with the same user/password as you. This connects fine yet i cannot send or receive emails.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something in the setup? what do you reckon? :?:
cheers, coj
well one thing is to be able send mails and another is to get mail working
can you get IE working ?
Yes, IE is working fine and dandy
then i doubt it's a grps issue
if you put in all the mail settings like
pop3 and smpt if you used those protocols
and it still dont work with your type of mail protocol
then i would contact the phone company to see if they rout
your type of mails
Where can I find them? My TyTn just arrived and I have to set these things manually... thanks!
Same as your GPRS settings; it's no different
Hi there, iIam in the same boat. I do not know how to enter the settings or even where to find them. I saw the a previous reply to you said "Same as your GPRS settings," but that did not help me because I do not know what those are or how to enter them.
I woud also appreciate help on this issue.
Thanks
Cingular Settings
Ok,
This link should take you to the Cingular settings for the 8125. They're the same for HSDPA as well as plain GPRS
https://supportcingular.atgnow.com/...Setting+the+APN+on+the+Cingular+8125.#Goto101
This link is for the MMS settings, in case you need them.
https://supportcingular.atgnow.com/...ring+MMS+settings+on+the+Cingular+8125#Goto11
If for whatever reason they don't work, goto support on Cingular's site and search for 8125 GPRs settings and you'll get them. Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks! It's working.
I tried to test via dslreports.com but those Java-styleed stuff did not work, just like speedtest.net did not work...
UPDATE: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed works and I got 811kb/s with 0.4xxms latency... hmmm, is there a way to lower this crazy latency?
It's dslreports.com/mspeed And sorry about that, I figured you knew the settings already, or else I would have posted them
I cam getting similar results. I am wondering if it has to do with the connection settings. On Telus EVDO RevA I had a latency of about 50ms and a dl speed of around 1500kbit
Hi out there,
searching for a while now. Found nothing, but CommMgrPro which is way to much.
I search for a simple software to automatically disable GPRS/UMTS data while roaming and enable it back when logged into my provider again.
Would be nice to have more than one "home" provider.
Any hints? Thanks and happy holidays.
the simplest way is change your mobile while roaming
i was surprised that my htc touchpro activate
data communication automatically while i
had disactivated data com before.
Modaco NoData
Thanks. At least a simple way to enable and disable.
My problem is that i live close to the boarder (germany/france) and that i flip into roaming here really fast.
An automatic solution is needed very urgend.
Locking to my provider is ok, but the htc asks me what provider to join, when back.
All that sucks.
I cant believe that there is no solution.
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that?
Nobody?
Nobody else who got this problem and nobody who got a solution?
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that? The documentation is bad.

Maybe you can PM danielherrero.
He's the creator of CommMgrPro.
I am very interested in this as well - and from my searching seems a lot of others would be interested in an automated system.
My network provider automatically roams to another specific provider when in a non-coverage area (small pockets within metro areas and rural). The problem is that the data cost when roaming is ridiculous. I use Push Email for work and while on roaming want GPRS access to be disabled until I am connected back with my provider.
I've installed NoData by MoDaCo which is good but this requires the user to remember to enable/disable GPRS.
*EDIT*
I found exactly what I needed after a more searching - Wombat's PhoneRoam Script (Stay Connected to High Speed Networks Only). Will see whether it does the job

I agree to have more that only one network provider. Here in Belgium we can subscribe to Vodafone passport that enable to use "free" of charge the data on any Vodafone network, but when I go in France it switch to other provider and in that case my push mail is expensive... I'm also in the boarder of France.
So basicaly :
1/ A very very simple prg that disable the data automatically if roaming.
2/ A version 2 that would put all permited network provider even if roaming.
Thanks
This thing exists for the iPhone. Its a simple switch in the interface.
You can select "Data-Roaming" on/off, thats all.
Where is it in WM?

Modaco is fine but when you are at the border is quite difficult to follow your carrier and disable data time by time...or even remember you are switching to another country after few km and you always have one app trying to connect (Tomtom, weather, opening a mail...)
Modaco it's what I use actually but let me forget stressing an unwanted roaming data connection...
a+
Used NoData and application is still able to connect...
Hi,
I switched off all data connections in the registry (using frost Advanced Config, than also tried NoData) and in general windows mobile apps aren't able to connect... but I have a one third party application, which is somehow able to ignore that and connect even when the data connection is toggled to DISABLED...
Any ideas how to REALLY disable data connections (for roaming)...
here is the automatic solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
this will automatically disable ALL data in roaming and re-enable under home provider without any user configuration - nothing to toggle
Does anyone have the full settings (cab or otherwise) for a TP2 on UK T-Mobile please?
I've tried e-mailing T-Mobile but they're next to useless.
Thanks very much.
t-mobile cab settings file
try this cab
Hi ScouseMartin,
Thanks, been after these for a while!
Much appreciated.
SW ;o)
glad it worked for you, anyway us scousers have to look after each other,if anybody wants the complete uk internet settings cabs i have them all, just send me a PM. I have posted them on this site before but it was ages ago and i cant remember where
Thanks for the settings, but I'm still having problems with YouTube and Windows Update which say there's no connection. However they both work on WiFi. Strangely Opera works fine on the data connection!
It's probably something I've missed - anyone any ideas?
Thanks.
Would anyone have a similar cab for o2 settings?

there is an app on the phone for setting this.
Neil, my Touch Pro 2 was originally Orange and the app will only do a full set-tup for Orange Network.
I appreciate this is an age-old TP2 query, but i still need it!! lol
Ive managed to get the internet going ok, but mms have never worked and ive tried every scenario on the net i can find.
So yet again- can anyone give me mms settings (plus brief guideline, just to try and ascertain where ive been going wrong)????
I would like to be able to get and send media messages again!!!
thank you. you save what little hair i have.tmobile monkeys are useless wasted 3 days! with this cab my touch pro 2 is ALL GOOD!
Hi Folks. I have a problem with my PDA. I use HTC P4531 (Unlocked). I use it on T-Mobile network. Since the PDA is unlocked, I had to manually set up GPRS connection, so that I can send/receive MMS. + I have Mobile Net on my PDA. A T-Mobile version of this phone is T-Mobile Wing. I used to have one before I bought this unlocked device (got an offer on it that I couldn't pass up). The WING has this "OZ Messenger" on it. People who use or used a T-Mo Wing should know what this app is. Anyway, I found a *.cab file of this app, installed it, and it doesn't work for me. Before trying to log on to any networks, I went in to "Connections" and manually turned this connection on. But when I was trying to log on to AIM service, I got a text message saying:
WV11RL1 ST=(200,"Successful") SI=1.1Ax18be29624131ada3809e265da1811866 CI=wv:OZ4121#[email protected] KA=60000
From: 4670
How can I use this application? Again - I have mobile net and I set the connection up for GPRS.
P.S. If you know how to get a certain app to work similar to this one, for a fact, please let me know. Thank You
why dont you just use something other than that like Palringo
T-Mobile OZ Communicator
if you want to try something else i suggest Pigeon.
It doesn´t need much RAM and works stable.

Hi people. I don't think you guys get this.
I DO NOT HAVE/USE T-MOBILE WING!! I HAVE/USE an unlocked HTC P4351 (Physically the same thing as T-Mo Wing). Not The Same SOFTWARE as T-Mo Wing though!! I can't just connect to anything without setting up a connection first!!

Huh????????
Palringo (the one that you quoted) uses a Data Plan. So, you could use that on your phone, IF you have a respectable data plan through your carrier.
And then the T-Mobile OZ Communicator, that might work on your phone. It's worth a try. OZ Communicator works without a data plan, and through SMS.

The thing is, OZ is installed, but when I run it and try to log on to AIM network (or any other), it DOESN'T turn on my GPRS connection. I strongly believe I need to set it up!! My MMS wasn't set up neither, I found instructions on the net and manually added the connection for it to use. I think this needs the same!!

N O!! Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! When it is installed on a T-Mo Wing, when you try to log on to AIM (to take this network as an example) on the T-Mo Wing - it turns on some "GPRS" connection, and signs on.
For me - I don't have that GPRS connection set up for anything else other then for MMS (I configured this connetion MYSELF), so when I try to log on to any of the networks - it doesn't turn anything on.
Take MMS, when you try to send a MMS message, it also turns some "GPRS" connection on - I don't believe it’s the same connection. I don't have "GPRS" connection set up for this kind of stuff!! I need to set up an addition one, and to turn on automatically as soon as I try to log on using this OZ Communicator.
I don't think it’s the same connection as for MMS, I turned it manually on, and tried to log in with this OZ Communicator, and it didn't do anything. Another possibility is - I don't have the right OZ Messenger (not intended for HTC). Some other *.cab file I found here.
