Would someone kindly explain why I cannot send/receive email from outlook inbox when not syncronized? My stand alone outlook 2003 is configured to my gmail pop3 account. The outlook 2003 works great on the laptop. The active sync is working fine. in short everything is great with the pairing.
Do i need to create a new pop3 account on the hermes with the same details? Is this mandatory (i think it is)?
Will this syncronize with outlook 2003 cleanly?
Assuming my thoughts are correct this means:
1. while not attached to the laptop oulook, i send and receive via pop3 gmail on hermes.
2. since the mail goes through gmail, i will collect it for archiving when i send/receive from laptop
3. ultimately it will all reside in outlook2003 and sync back to hermes.
I just hate the idea of needing to create a 2nd account on the hermes...
Thanks in advance.

As far as I understood your questions:
1) you're right in general so...
2) to fully use your pop3 e-mail account (your gmail) on BOTH devices: PC + PPC - you need to create pop3 e-mail account _on each_ of them. It's a must. You should also keep in mind, that if you want to store your e-mail messageû on PC (laptop) in Outlook 2003 you need properly adjust the following pop3 account setting on your PPC device - set "leave copies of messages on server" option.
Having done this you will receive copy of all messages to PPC, originals to PC, and the only problem is that you will need to manually delete copies of your e-mail messages on PPC. At least how it works for me.
It maybe possible to setup an automatical delete of those PPC-copies of messages from pop3 account, which were deleted on server, but i don't know.
The only way around it (probably - as I never used it by myself) is what you have now: your e-mail are going to.from your PPC through synchornization with PC, which in its turn is connected to gmail pop3 account.
Good luck!
where on the hermes is the function for "leave messages on server"? i have the button active on the outlook 2003 on the pc. i have it checked on the gmail account settings. on hermes? thanks....ST

Click to collapse
In WM5 there in no option to "Leave messages on server". this is done automaticly. In WM5 the messages will stay on the server untill you
1) Delete them on the Hermes = Deletes them off the server
2) Download them to you PC that deletes them off the server
So if you get POP mail on your Hermes only delete messages you do not want to go to your desktop.
I am using gmail as the mail server and i access the pop mail via both:
1. outlook 2003 on PC
2. pop3 account on hermes
Seems i cannot access gmail from both and have outlook 2003 remain current with gmail server. Outlook 2003 does not 'pull down' messages that were accessed by hermes. And the real kick...with a subsequent send/receive the mail on hermes disappears. All mail is on gmail so nothing truly missing, just 'holes' in my outlook 2003.
Is there a better/different/alternative device I should look into?
Should I just disable outlook 2003 email?
should I just get a freakin pen, paper, and some stamps!
Thanks all...ST
Hi,
something I'm a little confused about, I've done a sync with Outlook & it has created all the folders on my MDA Vario II. I've created an email account to get my mail that outlook gets for when I'm away from the machine. This has setup a new folder with the name of the account.
What happens when I download emails, does it copy them from my domain server & put them in the Pop3 account folder on the PDA? Then I guess at home l download & sync them to the outlook folders on my home PC back to the PDA or something else?
Is it possible to setup my email account for the Outlook folder or is that structure just for sync purposes? I guess the rules woldnt work (I have 30 folders or so). Any help greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Ronski
I´m also searching for help
I´ve got the same problem: I want to synchronize my pop3-Folders on MDA with my Outlook at Desktop. But I don´t know how?
Using IMAP
Now I´m using IMAP, so the emails will stay on the server and I can get them at Home with outlook POP3.
Hi,

Hi all,
i have a new problem for few weeks and I wonder if you had some ideas
I am no more able to synchronize the mail coming from my company microsoft exchange.
I used to synchronize for years on my HTC Trinity and then HTC diamond.
I moved in an other country so my inbox has been moved to an other domain. The problem might have started with this change but I am not sure
Now when I try to synchronize it is synchronizing the folder and then looking for changes ; It can last few minutes and then it stops
I managed to synchronize the calendar and the contact ... so the only problem is the mails
I tried to synchronize all the mail or only 1 day and no difference
I tried different ROM and as I was on WM 6.5 I decided to go back to the default ROM but no difference
I tried to synchronize by USB(advances settings or not, windows XP or vista) or by 3G but no difference
I don't have any other idea
Can you help please ?
Thanks
You could try to add a new (local) mail account in Outlook. The next step is to setup this account on your device. Deselect the company mail account for synchronization. If it synchronizes the new account, the problem is either in your company mail account or in the settings for synchronization of that account. Please note that you can set the criteria (size/days) per folder/item. Perhaps some items have different settings then your inbox which you have set to 1 day. Check the 'Manage folders' item on your device which can be found in your Inbox under Menu, Tools, Manage folders.
hi all ,

anyway to solve this problem?

Did your try to remove all relationship with your PC and Phone then create a new one and see if synchro is OK.
