HTC Today Home plugin - temperature displayed too low? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Does anybody experience an issue with the HTC Home plugin (ported from the HTC Touch) when the temperature displayed is almost always 3-4 degrees lower than the actual? Mine seems invariably about 3 degrees lower than what Spb Pocket Weather (and my local weather station) is reporting.
I am able to select my location (Toronto, CA) from the list, running the plugin on my Trinity with MUN's WM6 ROM. The temp display is set to Celsius. I really like the plugin (despite its slowness) but the wrong temperature is making it less appealing.

Temperature too low
I had same problem with Sydney,AU -was showing 44 C and there are only 12C.
I changed to a different city, updated forcast (for different city), than changed back to Sydney and updated again... so I got the correct forecast.
Try it...

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately that didn't help at all. The plug in insists that it's currently 23C with light clouds while it's actually 28C and raining cats and dogs

Visit accuweather.com and lookup the current weather for your city and country you have in HTC Today. They should both be the same since accuweather.com is the source. If so, then the source is your issue.

The accuweather.com website seems to be pretty much bang on, the temperatures are almost the same as reported by The Weather Network locally.
I've also noticed two strange things:
1. The 5-day forecast reported by HTC's plugin differs from the 5-day forecast on AccuWeather's website, the same 4 degrees difference (21 on the HTC's plugin instead of 25 on AccuWeather website).
2. The plugin actually reports the correct current temps but only in early morning, as the day progresses the difference becomes greater and reaches 4 degrees around 11-12 AM.
This stupid thing drives me nuts, totally ruins the otherwise excellent HTC Home plugin.

hi all, in Mine , the temp is shown in Farenheits, how can i change this to Celcius? i cant find any options around for that.

Tap on your City, in the "Select City" screen tap on Menu (lower right), then select Weather Options. Under "Temperature Scale" select the Celcius radio button. Tap on Done, then OK.
To address my original problem - out of a sudden the current temp is correct although forecast is still about 4 degrees lower than the actual forecast. Oh well as long as the current temp is fine, I am happy

Wheather via USB sync?
Can sby tell me, how to make HTC Wheather plugin work through USB sync? It used to do that, but ain1t working since a month or so...

I need Great Falls, MT. I can pull it up on accuweather, but the device cant seem to pull it.
http://www.accuweather.com/world-index-forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&locCode=NAM|US|MT|GREAT%20FALLS|&u=1
<city name="Great Falls, Mt" loca="NAM|US|MT|GREAT%20FALLS" land="United States"/>

Today screen items randomly arranging themselves

No matter what order i set the today screen items to appear in, they rearrange themselves in a random order! Its driving me crazy and i've tried every combination of order setting but to no avail. does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it?
Its happens to me also!!!!!
I noticed that they are well arranged once you put the CALENDAR item above the middle of the screen! When I try to move the CALENDAR item below that, all items get cluttered!
This is really weird!!!!!
I guess its a bug in Windows 2003, or maybe the system doesn't like the calendar to be shown at the bottom part of screen, cause maybe they want all appointments to be shown without the need of scrolling (when alot of items are shown on the today screen)!!! maybe, i donno!! :?
i'de like to have such an option, look into the registry in the today items, theirs something called Order, its resposible of their apearance on today screen regardless to the continuty it takes less amount & puts it on top so if you have 4 8 34 22 then they will look like 4 8 22 34, so just arrange them by giving them differant values from lower to higher, please tell me if this worked

Pedometer using Diamond's built in Accelerometer

=========================================
3/14/2009 Pedometer 1.42 is released.
What's new:
--Fixed "InvalidCastException" error for non-english regional setting.
NOTE:
1) If you want to keep your old jogging data, and customized sound file and background file, you need to save the "pedometer.sdf", "background.jpg", and "StepSound.wav" files, install the new version, then copy back these files to \program files\elitemway\pedometer folder.
2) !!! The pedometer is designed to count relatively accurately when you carry the phone vertically or horizontally around you left or right side of your waist belt. It may give you wrong result if carry your phone otherwise. Step detection algorithm that can handle all carrying position and walking/running conditions is very complicated and is beyond my knowledge. Step length and Calories conversion are unique for each individual and walking condition. There is no way that this can be very accurate. You may adjust these values in the "Setting" screen. The application is not globalized yet. Like all other xda developers, I have to find spare time working on this project. Thank you for your understanding!
==================================================
3/12/2009 Pedometer 1.41 patch is released.
What's new:
--Fixed the version number.
--When you set the distance unit to "mile", it still displays the distance value as km. This bug is fixed in the patch.
Copy the attached zipped exe to elitemway\pedometer folder, override the existing one.
12/25/2008 Pedometer 1.4 is released. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
What's new:
--The pedometer should also work when carrying in horizontal position. Please report if the counting is accurate enough.
--Added "Show toolbar" setting so that you can choose whether to show the toolbar on the main screen.
12/16/2008 Pedometer 1.3 is released.
What's new:
--Added battery threshhold setting. The program will pause pedometer, automatically save the current progress and then allow device to go into standby mode based on the Power setting when battery level falls below a certain value.
--Relocate the buttons from the main screen to menu.
--Display battery status on the main screen.
--You can change the background by replacing the default "Background.jpg" file.
12/15/2008 Pedometer 1.2 is released.
What's new:
--Step detection is a little bit better. It still has a lot of room for improvement though.
--While Pedometer is running, the screen will dim, but will not standby.
--The "Hide" button not only turns off the screen, it can also prevent the device from going into stanby mode. So you can let it run in the background for a long time. If you want to keep it running, do not use the Power button, instead using the Hide button.
--Pause button stops both time and step count. It will also stop the timer. So when it is paused, the device can be in the standby mode to save battery.
--I let it run around 7 hrs in office environment with fully charged batterry (1350mAh), with Blackberry connect and a few emails, no step sound, I still had about 45% left at the end.
--You can mute the step sound from the main screen.
--Now it has the HTC Diamond black transparent background. See the screenshot.
--The default step sound is shorter and "big foot" like. You can customize the sound by replace the default "StepSound.wav" file (do not use anything above 0.2 sec). Nero 8 wave editor and other tool is good for sound editing.
--Added error handling for possible decimal conversion error due to different regional setting. As a workaround, you can probably change you regional setting to English, then run the application, finish the setting, then change it back.
12/13/2008 Pedometer Release 1.0 summary
I searched extensively for a pedometer application that works on Diamond, but could not find anything. So I created one.
--It uses HTC Touch Diamond's built in Accelerometer.
--Only .Net CF 2.0 is required (comes with Diamond).
--You can pause and reset the step counter.
--It displays steps, distance, calories and time duration.
--You can use the Hide button to save battery.
--You can set the step length and calories per mile value.
--You can save, delete and view the historical data.
--The historical data is stored in Microsoft SQLCe compact database.
--It can play the sound when the step is detected.
--It can sound an alarm when the set distance is reached.
--Briefly tested with the US unlocked version of the Diamond and Sprint version of the Diamond.
--The sensor.dll is from http://www.koushikdutta.com/search/label/Sensor%20API
Tips:
--First, verify and set your preferred setting from the menu item.
--Find the best carrying position with the "Play step sound" option on.
--Use the Hide button to save battery.
--You can install on storage card, but it can break the application if you use the storage mode while the Pedometer application is running.
Known Issues:
--Step detection is not accurate sometime. The algorithm needs improvement.
--Hide mode does not prevent from going into sleep mode.
--After changing the setting, you need to close then reopen the application for teh new setting to take effect.
--It only works if the diamond is in the vertical position.
nice work buddy
Looks promising, thanks for the work!
any chance this would work on a touch pro? Also, if i wanted to leave it on all day just to basically see how many steps i'm getting in on a typical day, does that basically mean i'll have to recharge my phone everyday or is the battery footprint very low?
thanks!
this could be pretty useful. thanks
Nice work, I just came on here to look for one of these, thanks for the convenience haha
Thx for the ap, i was working on my one some time ago but stop after having bad etection when running, im going to test yours and given a feedback.
work well on Touch HD and Diamond but... i run for twenty steps but... it counted only nine.. (bouth diamond and touch HD was in vertical position)...
thank you
Step detection algorithm is hard to do. I will see if it can be improved.

Not sure if it will work on TouchPro. It should work though. This utility is still in early development stage. I do not have battery consumption data yet. The key is to find a reliable step detection algorithm. Thanks.
On my Touch Pro, RomeOS 1.51 :
When I try to run this APP.
Conversion from string "0.235" to type "Decimal" is not valid.
try changing your language options, there where any option to change the symbol of , to . or what else
Pedometer version 1.2 is released
Hi, All:
After some intensive efforts, the Pedometer version 1.2 is released. The HTC touch black transparent looks much better. Please post all questions in this thread.
I found this doc. It may be of interest to you in regards to your algorithm? Excellent work in any case.

Great App
thanks for great app. What would be really cool is if it would have its own TFlo3D tab.

I will look at at the paper closely when I get a chance.
Is there a message/signal that is sent out when Windows Mobile is about to die due to lack of power? Because twice now, while hiking and while on the tread mill, my phone happened to be on it's last legs WRT power, unknown to me. In the middle of the workout/hike the phone died due to lack of power thus losing the progress so far. Could pedometer instead be notified of pending death of the phone due to power and "save itself"
before all power is gone?
Either that or how about a resume feature where ever minute (5 minutes or whatever) pedometer saves the current progress such that if the phone died for any reason and pedometer was restarted, it would sense that it was in the middle of a recording and offer to resume where it left off of start anew.
It seems to me that either solution would solve my problem.

In next release, I can add battery alert threshold, play the sound, then, save the progress automatically and allow device to go to standby mode.
Lightsailpro, any plans to make this a GPS-assisted app? I realize that once you introduce GPS, you're taking away from the entire purpose of using the accelerometer to measure actual steps, however, I would love to have an app that I could choose on a given occasion whether it uses acc. to measure steps, or GPS to measure actual distance.
Currently, I run with my Diamond (for music) and a GPS watch (to track my progress and calories). How great it would be to ditch the watch and combine all the functionality into the Diamond!

Sounds great! Thanks.
Now, it it's not too much to ask, a little better graphical design... I know, I'm no graphic artist either but I can steal with the best of them!

Time Zone Mess

Hi,
maybe I am the only one - but I have a HUGE issue with which I never had to deal previously!
I am living on Bali/Indonesia = GMT +8.
Indonesia has 2 time Zones GMT +7 and +8
In prev version of Leo Roms (non-offocial ones like Dutty's) I could also set "My Location" and the responding time zone (= +8 for Bali).
Now I got the HD2..with "My Location" enabled it picks up weather for either "Kuta" or "Denpasar".
If it takes "Denpasar" all is fine as that obv is linked in the Manila Database to GMT +8..HOWEVER if "My Location" updates to "Kuta" Weather than the Clock jumps one hour back (as "Kuta" seems to be linked to GMT +7).
Totally frustrating....
Any idea what could be done?
I already set value "0" under /Time/for automatic updating....still....this bloody clock keeps flipping backward...
If I disable "My Location" in weather than I can select only "Kediri" - and that is linked as well to GMT +7 = all clocks are set wrong if I amend that manually to GMT +8....plus: under Clock Settings "My Location" is also still shown...grrrr
So...guess it would coming down to amending the Manila Database - but: how can that be done?
Any Input would be highly appreciated..as I never experienced such an issue with any Phone..weather WM or Apple or Symbian
I am in england and sometimes the 'my location' location for some reason thinks in in new dehli or a couple of other citys ive nevr heard of!
You could try tapping on the clock itself (world clock), adding the city manually, and then selecting it (radio button). Then it'll show that time instead of your "my location".

I mean..what kind of a mess is this if a Phone like this doesnt even show the correct time??!!
Plssss......someone must be able to come up with a solution to this crap!
Thanks Guys!

You're not alone. I'm in the UK and my location correctly reports my position, but it thinks it's in GMT-5 Eastern US timezone. What's that all about?

My Locations ticket with HTC support make me crazy

Hello guiz
Mani of us have problem with My Locations and uncorrect weather information. I open ticket to HTC Support and place here this converstion w/o any comments.
Me:
My Phone is HTC HD2
My Locations not work correctly.
My Locations find my sity Sofia(Bulgaria) correct, but weather and forecast infomrations is not correct. It's not Sofia Weather i think it's Espoo weather information.
How i can fix this ?
HTC:
Thank you for contacting us,
Kindly note that you can change the location of the weather. You can add cities, remove others. You can as well determine whether you’d like those updated data to be downloaded automatically or manually when you choose update now.
Kindly go to touch flo>weather>menu>add location (to add more cities).
Touch flo>weather>menu>settings>download automatically>untick.
Check in regional settings that you choose Bulgaria.
Perform Soft Reset to the phone
Soft Reset :
1. With your thumb or finger, open the back cover by lifting up from the left side of the cover.
2. The RESET button is located at the bottom left below the battery compartment and SIM card slot. Use a small object with an unsharp, pointed tip such as a toothpick to press the RESET button.
ME:
Excuse me becouse my english is't very good but mu problem is not "how to add new city".
I can add Sofia in Weather tab, My Locations correct find my in Sofia also.
But weather information in My Locations is different that added from me city Sofia.
Of course i update both weather in same time. I attach 2 screen shots from witch you can see that.
HTC:
Hello Mr.Dimitrov
Thank you for your quick response.
As the photos shows, the highest epected temprature and lowest one. but the current temprature is in the middle. Is that what you were concerning about?
As the phone gives you approximate degree temrature and within this range the current degree will be.
It expectaed that highest will be 16 and lowest 0 but the current was 4.
Thank you so much for using HTC products.
If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again.
ME:
Did you see that forecast information for next 4 days is totaly different for 2 screenshots ? It's mean that manualy added locations Sofia from me and My Location also Sofia detected from device have diffrent weather information and forecast. Is it is a normal ?
HTC:
Thank you for your quick response.
Kindly note that the weather in my location it's the street weather not the whole city.
The image with 8 degree (H:9, L:6) is my location one (you'll find a small symbol next to Sofia) and it's updated depending on your location.
The other image shows the weather for the whole City.
Thank you so much for using HTC products.
If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again.
Respect & Regards,
HTC TEAM

Home page bug?

Hi all.
I have a problem.
On my HTC home screen i have, for example, -16 C and on the weather page i have -12 for the same city and just right after my manual updating.
What's wrong?
Are you confusing reading/forecast?
Are you confusing the temperature 'now' with the readings given for the High and Low for the day?
no!
Definitively not!
This is no bug - it's normally , you have on Today MY LOCATION Weather /it is actually / and into WeatherTab on My Location is the same value BUT on your TOWN / that you has defined during Weather menu/ is value PREDICTED - and that maybe differently.
Sorry for my bad english...
Well, if you have differing 'actuals' and/or forecast temperatures between your Home Page and the Weather tab you definitely have a bug.
I've just forced an update on mine, and on both pages I have 2C as the current temperature, 4C as the expected High and 0C as the Low. There is no difference between the figures on the two pages.
Can only suggest that, somehow, the two pages are looking at different bits of data.
Sorry, can't help further.
Well , I'am living in Prague /MyLocation on Today is automatically defined as Prague/ and secondly Iĺl adjust Prague manually in Weather app./. Now temperature&weather in Today are actually values and on the PragueTab in Weather app. i see FORECAST values . Eq: on position 1 /MyLocation/ in Weater Tab are values actually for Prague , on position 2 /user defined Prague/ I' see FORECAST Values for Prague --- mostly both are DIFFERENTLY...Mine -that's normally..
P.S. - Sorry for my bad english...
