Tomtom slow on calculating route and postcode any solution - P3600 General

hi
I have this isuue with the spv m700 (htc 3600) tomtom 6.30 version is very slow to reroute you or finding postcode or even calculating routes, comparing to the xda orbit(htc 3300) any one know why?
I have tried 3 ROM from this forum always the same issue
can anyone help please it look like I will have to go back to my old orbit again wierd?
htc 3300 OMAP850-210mhz
htc 3600 sc32442a-400mhz
?????

Can you give approximate timings so we can compare?
My version of TTN6 is pretty quick at calculating routes, or selecting PCodes, though rerouting can be a bit slow.
What sort of memory card are you using? It may be that the read speeds are poor for some reason?
In general, the Trinity ought to be somewhat faster than the Orbit in all applications due to its faster proecessor, and inherently faster expansion card system.

tomtom very slow
Hi, thanks for the response
comparing to the orbit
calculating the same route of 60 km
orbit in 20 sec
spv in 1min 40 sec!!
also when selecting the postcode the first letter 1 second then selecting the second one take about 10 seconds and so on!
when rerouting it take while comparing to the orbit
the sd card I am using is a normal 2GB sd card is a toshiba
I am going to try a nother sd card and see what come up.
I am also about to sell the phone and go back to my old orbit!

Looks like something very amiss there!
I've just tried it with mine, and a 60Km route took 11 seconds to calculate; entering the Postcode gave absolutely no lag/delay between letters, though entering by Town Name took longer as it looked up the index after each letter.
Not tried rerouting.
TomTom program files are installed on the SD card.

I have moved the tomtom program file to sd card but still the same I am using western eu map version 6.75.
is making me mad

My Trinity does not seem to have this problem. Strange. eg. a 40km route takes about 6 seconds to calculate. If I deviate from the rout it takes about 3 seconds to reroute.
Performance similar to NeilM - but with tomtom program files on the main memory, not the sd card.
I would take the phone back - or flash it with a different ROM.

thanks for the feedback can anyone please advice if this is because I am using western EU 900 mb map?

The bigger the map, the longer the calculation times. We need to find a way to chop the maps.

Ah- I'm using the UK only map, so that may make a difference, but it still doesn't explain why the slower Orbit performs better for you.

yes thats exactly where Im finding hard to understand the spv m700 is double the speed of the orbit maybe is the way it cominicate with the storage card it may use diffrent bus speed I don't know!!
thanks to all for your help,I keep playing till I find a soloution for it.

TT got slower with the new (larger) maps of Europe.
So there is less free space on my SD Card.
Is TT using a sort of swapfile when calculating?

SD Card Support for XDAII

Hello,
Can anyone advise me what is the biggest size of SD Card that a
XDAII can support. I try call to Singapore HelpDesk and I feel they
are helpless and hopeless. The first time I call they said I have test
it out myself. Then I call second time and they reply me 256M.
But indeed I am using an 512M and planning to go for 2G.
Can anyone advise for above concern.
many thanks in advance.

Hi. I've got an XDA IIi and i run a 2Gb SD-Card in there...
Whatever you choose, make sure it's at least 80x speed, or you will encounter freezing in tomtom 5...

help help help

I brought a nokia 6670 for approx. 320 US$ in may 2005. activated gprs from mobilink pakistan in august (i got that phone so i could surf internet and chat!)...and it's 500 pak.rupees per month for UNLIMITED gprs usage. 500rs. is about 8.5 US$.... yes... LESS THAN 10 US$ per month.
I wonder why that is so. btw, i use yahoo and msn messenger on the nokia6670. ;thinking of buying an i--mate but all confused. JAM here is for 33,000 pak rs. that's....560US$... with 128mb upgrade its about 593US$ but the guy at the shop said I can go aal the way upto 1GB which would cost 38,000 pak rs. (644US$)...
IS IT possible to use msn and yahoo messenger both on the i-mate or just msn?
also....i knw size matters and all. I like the big screen of the PDA2k but slide out keyboard seems risky... the PDA2 is available here too for 42,000 pak.rs. (711US$).. and K-JAM for about same price (711US$)....
I want something big screen and for large internet browsing so i enjoy watching pics, seeings movies, reading e-books etc. would need to stop wearing small pocket jeans though if i get the PDA2... so maybe K-JAM.
Also, whch out of these is most reliable as far as memory not getting lost and stability of system goes? no hanging/freezing etc.
Also, I use 2 SD cards with my cannon digital camera, one is 128mb and other is 256mb and i plan to use those with whichever IMATE i get. I have a 256 miniSD card with the nokia 6670. I wanna ask can I clip on the mini-sd card to it's holder and use that as a regular SD card on the Imate? I use the camera a lot for work so would love to be able to do that
Thinking of selling off the 6670 for about 200US$ and getting an i-mate in Jan.2006.. i look forward to being more active at this forum (great work admin after i do get an i-mate....JAM or K-JAM or what... :S Any advice and answers to questons above I'd be most thankful for.
sorry , one more question i forgot to ask!
Is EDGE technology dependent on the DEVICE or the service provider. I called my provider and the lady said it's regular gprs....
i'm asking coz the K-JAM has EDGE in it and the JAM doesn't...so...getting a K-JAM would mean faster browsing? not that i have a problem with the current gprs on the nokia... i even hook up the cellphone to my PC via USB when my regular cable isn't working and use the gprs... i mean, heck it's less tha 10US$ per month so it's my "backup"..
as u can see i've been doing research on all these imate models kind of stuff this last week on the internet before selling off the nokia6670 and buyng one of these
-nad7602
1. surf internet, prefer a big screen but it's not major issue.
2. listen mp3s, watch videos, view saved pics.
3. make/receive calls. send sms.
4. use yahoo and msn messenger and iffff possible mirc too.
I'd like something in which I can do all the above at same time without the device getting frozen.. so i can use it just like on a PC
5. I heard that if the JAM's, PDA2k and PDA2 battery goes down u lose saved data but not so in the K-JAM it retains data.
6. synchronization is not main requirement. i just want to be able to swap jpegs, vids, mp3s that all.
7. can i use a mini-SD card AND regular SD card in the K-JAM? maybe use the clip thingy that comes with mini-SDs like i do with my card reader?
8. I absolutely do not want any freezes, white screens etc.
9. although i am careful i know moving/sliding keyboards are a risk, may get lose..keys get dust..and i DO get sweaty palms and hands...hehe.. so maybe PDA2 but only IF it does not lose data on down battery.
10. maybe it's possible to intall programs on the SD card so in case of powerdown i don't lose programs and data?
I have not considered JASJAR coz too big and cumbersome and it's 1000US$ plus here.
so....JAM with upgrade, or PDA2k or K-JAM....or PDA2.. me so confused lol...not to mention that I heard theres tonnes more programs and tweaks and games for the 2003 windows in JAM and not so in the 2005 windows in the K-JAM. once again, i'd like to do the above functions and that's it. there's hardly any place here with wi-fi etc. and my original post had a question about the EDGE speed compared to simple gprs (new readers of this thread please re-read it)
once again, i really like this website. just wat i wanted to find and will definitely need when i get an imate. any helpful advice about the above questions, about avoiding above problems with program updates and ROMs etc.? i'd be most thankful.
yeh can use MSN (Pocket MSN that should come with it) Yahoo (use Agile Messenger) and IRC (www.WMirc.com)
Videos and pics will be ok with little or no problem bepending on video format, etc
can browse web, make and receive Call/SMS
5. I heard that if the JAM's, PDA2k and PDA2 battery goes down u lose saved data but not so in the K-JAM it retains data.

a PPC running Windows Mobile 5 will(should) Retain data as the other WM2k3 PPC's will not, Beacause WM 2k2/3 save data in RAM where as WM5 saves it in ROM therefore wont lose it all when their is no power
The K-JAM (which i think the HTC Wizard) only has a Mini SD card slot so normal SD cards wont fit

you dont have use the slide out keyboard as there is a onscreen keyboard like on other PPC''s the Slide out keyboard is only really usfull for long emails/SMS's
so far had no problems with my slide out keyboard
Most Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Smartphone 2003 will run on windows Mobile 5
some are a bit buggy thou if ran on WM5, but more and more programs as been made to work fine with WM5

Both, you need a Device and Service Provider to support EDGE for the Faster Speeds
thanks PayableOnDeath (love ur "nick/handle" btw
ok, that was some good advice. here are some more things i'd like to discuss or get advice from you or anyone else so please some input here!.
about EDGE. i tried something yesterday. see, i was using nokia6670 to USB to PC gprs setup and i heard if there is connection problem to set the modem at lower speed so I had it at 115200 bps for months and it was slow, but reliable. yesterday i tried the highest modem setting (921600 bps) and it connected and i noticed much improved speed and the gprs did not d/c like it was doing back in august so i was like......does this mean my service provider is EDGE capable?!
other thing is.....I maintain a blog AND I work for a website from home in which I have to write short stuff, like 200 words entries and upload 1.5 to 2mb pics....like 6 pics...and high quality 2 minute video clips....almost daily if not every alternate day and I am a heavy chatter..like mundo heavy!... so...keyboard needed? I checked out this site called outofbox or something...showing a universal bluetooth keyboard...so....wait, here's the link ------- > http://www.thinkoutside.com/stowawaybt_product.html
basically i'm an avid writer and jotter so I can still jot lots of word documents etc. on a JAM using the onscreen kb right?
now, my work is all photography/vids ....been using 2 SD cards for a year and i already have a 256mb R-SD for the nokia6670 so I think I will DEFINITELY have to get a 500mb or 1gb card whatever it is so...
btw, both my SD cards are kingston (128 and 256 mb) and the reduced one...is Microsim 256mb RSMMC... they all work fine with the JAM and K-JAM?
I think the most suitable "combo" for me would be 128mb upgrade JAM, BT keyboard, 1gb SD card with WM5 installed ....i dunno man.. :S
one important thing to factor into all this is that in Pakistan there is high rate of theft. I'm not really worried about it coz...i'm a geek and hardly social life and I am a very private kinda guy and don't flash around "stuff" so it's all good ...but it has to be considered... and secondly, I think the technology here is not as upto date as other countries....other than if this GPRS is EDGE capable which would mean I'd definitely go for the K-JAM... as I said in the first post , the GPRS is DIRT cheap here! I was up half the night at my "other" work - I'm a doctor, btw....checking forums of guess what (wink,hint...PDAs!!) on my 6670. I see myself using a PDA for a good 5-6 hours so that also has to be considered and is one reason i have ditched getting a PDA2k or PDA2 (larger screens, less battery life eh?) as well as I think it would get too much "noticed"...
I get the JAM and wait for a WM5 patch? ...looks like every one else in this forum as all the other websites are doing just that! *sigh*
what i appreciate is that here in pakistan the tech. and gadgets might be like half a year or year behind...but price wise seems fine. the JAM was for 666US$ when a friend of mine got it like feb-march 2005 and it is now 550US$. it's a pity no second hands here coz hardly anyone even if rich buys cool tech toys coz of theft/gunpoint etc. most ppl still use colourless screen cellphones or like at the most a 6600...and a few N-70s or 90s i've seen but i think what's the point if no EDGE or 3G here... even the 7610 and 6670 is still one of the newer and better ones here. and wifi...ppl here don't even know wat it is most of the time.. hehe.
so a JAM with a WM5 would mean no data loss on battery down/shutdown....that'd be cool...in fact, that would make the K-JAm sorta obsolete hehe...but I think there are powerful market forces at work here.... wifi yes...wifi no.... SD card yes..Reduced size card no..

Newbie Here!

Hi Everybody!
I'm a newbie here and just wanted to say Hi!
Hopefully , I will get my MDA Vario tomorrow, it is locked to T Mobile (UK) and I hope to unlock it for my o2 SIM.
Currently I have a Nokia 3230.
What do you use your MDA Vario for and what are your dislikes about this model of PDA/phone?
{>
Hi!
Hello and welcome, you will certainly enjoy using your new vario and this site will certainly help you make the most of it.
I travel ALOT with work so I use it to keep in touch with family / friends by using the WLAN at airports and using Agile Messenger to connect to MSN / ICQ and Yahoo.
I also use the camera to take snaps of any interesting places I see on on my travels so I can then send them to my wife and kids back home.
I purchased a 1gb mini sd on ebay for around 12 pounds so that I can use TomTom and the various maps that are available. Oh, and also I use it as a phone! Sometimes you forget how many things this phone is capable of, but the the phone is certainly one of its strong points. As it is quad band I can use it in Europe, Asia and America so I dont need to keep changing handsets everytime I go away on business.
Oh, and for when my flight is delayed, there is always Windows Media player for your favourite mp3's or audiobooks, and of course the excellent games that are also available.
You will not be dissapointed!! Enjoy!
Hi Nmonger and thanks for your reply!
I've puchased a 1gb mini sd card too.
My current phone has tomtom on it, so I've copied the files onto my PC and hope that I can transfer them to my PDA when it arrives.
I read an article on here which says you can flash the ROM, do I need to do this on mine?
PS. I'd love to see some of your photography and I am a photographer!

You old nokia is a symbian phone. I doubt the same tomtom will work on your new Wizard.
i received my xda mini on monday, so far ive surfed the net, sent emails, sms messages, taken photos, played music and played around with MSWord - connected it to my wireless network, active synced loads of games and apps onto it - ive just bought a 2gig minisd card and bluetooth headset for around £50 from moby (based on a recomendation frmo here)

Thank you for all your replies!
Glad to hear that your getting the most from your PDA/phone.
I wish I knew where to get the cards from, I got a 1 gig from ebay, cost £22 inc delivery.
I'll give the tomtom a try as it doesn't look like it is the original tomtom card (if you know what I mean  )
So, do I need to flash my ROM or as a newbiw, won't I notice any difference? Not that I'm sure why I should "flash my Rom", but it sounds good LOL
I use my Nokia phone for my business and the satnav is good, but I find it very slow with the Symbian software.
Thanks again for ALL you replies

Vario + TomTom = Trouble

Hi there,
Santa was very kind to me and dropped Tomtom 6 down my chimney, for use on my Vario. Sadly, despite several attempts at installing it, the program hangs ar various junctures, most commonly the start up screen (but i have got as far as registering it just before it went south again)...
I have reset, both soft and hard, but to no avail...
Any thoughts or suggestions would be warmly appreciated...
Yours, Rob the Newbie.
Hi Rob
Santa was also kind enough to drop the same to me. I have to confess it works ok - once the bluetooth connection with the GPS got sorted.
I've got the software on the card - plugged it in, navigated to the card and selected the start icon, which installed it and then it just works when I put the card in
Iain
Hi Rob, Can you please explain a bit more in detail that what have you got? where have you installed the TomTom? etc.
Sidd
thanks for your help so far everyone...
Iain, TomTom comes preloaded on a mini SD card, the product description can be found here: http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=281&Category=2&Lid=1
All the instructions tell me to do is:
1. insert miniSD card
2. Devices autoruns .cab file (sometimes)
3. Set preferences
4. Register product
Sometimes it get up to step 3, it goes up to step 4 after a hard reset sporadically.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks, Rob.
Rob do you know that your device must have to be connected to the internet either GPRS or WiFi prior to go to the TomTom Registration process so the software can send and recieve the registration information from the TomTom server.
As you are saying that you are ok till point 3 but getting stuck on point 4, its seems like your is definetelly not connected to the internet. Connect either WiFi or GPRS and start TomTom, go to registration and it will automatically listen the connection type whatever is on. Thats it
2. I am assuming that you have already got a GPS device (bluetooth or cradle based) to catch the Satellite signals, no offence but there are few fellows who did have bought/arrange the TomTom software without knowing that they MUST need a GPS device as well.
GoodLuck & let me know

major spv m700 problems

Hey guys.
I am having huge problems with my spv m700. Nothing will install on it (I've just loaded tom tom onto the sd card and it just does the installation little plingy noise and then nothing).
It won't even recognise there being a sim card in the slot when I put my dutch simcard in it. I have repeatedly auto and manually used the unlock program available here somewhere to absolutely no avail.
I'm getting to the end of my tether with the thing and am considering keeping my spv m2000 as that hasn't been any hassle at all since I've had that.
Is it my simcard is somehow not the correct standard for the M700? works fine in my m2000. And why would the phone not install tom tom?
i have not had any problems with my m700, looks like you have problem with your phone (that is what i think), try to exchange it, explain what is wrong to the orange.
hh
Did you buy it from Orange? If so, they should have supplied a new SIM card.
Your old M2000 SIM probably won't work in the M700, because the M700 is a 3G phone, and needs a USIM card, which has extra circuitry on it. A USIM will work fine on your old phone, so you could just ask Orange for a replacement SIM card.
Your SD card issues are something different- have you tried a different SD card in the M700, or the existing SD card in a PC card reader? This may narrow things down a bit.
OK I am thinking the problem must lie with the sim card itself. No I didn't purchase the phone from orange. I have an orange payg simcard and that registers no problems on orange NL. The UK based O2 card I have is recognised as a simcard but won't register on a network in holland. My mates new telefort simcard also won't register on a network but a 10 year old dutch sim card from my other mate works perfectly. Each time I swapped out sims I re-checked mine only to still find it completely unrecognised.
Update on Tom Tom. The version I have been trying to instal is tom tom 5 which this phone it appears doesn't like. The tom tom 5 navigator will not go past the maze page at initial instal. If I instal tom tom 5 mobile that works but it won't accept screen inputs and out of all the phone keys only 2 work so its un-navigable. I am waiting for delivery of a 4gb mini sd card now as my 512kb one isn't big enough for even the simplest of tom tom 6 installations.
I sold my spv m2000 today and maybe think I will regret that move. Especially as the guy thats bought it thinks he can install windows mobile 5 on it which was my main reason for moving phones along with thinking that the tom tom software I have would work.
TomTom Navigator 5 will work on the P3600, but as with all WM5/WM6 installations, is a real pain to acheive. There are some tutorials on our website (see sig)
TomTom Mobile is for Smartphones, so won't work on PPC devices.
SIM cards: you need to get a USIM update from Orange (unless of course the M700 has been blocked for some reason?). You should also SIM unlock your M700, if it hasn't been already- all SPV Orange models are SIM locked to the Orange network.

Once your M700 works fine you will praise the day that you bought it. I've got it for almost a year now and it is the best PDA ever. I've now got it running on mun_RUs WM6 and it keeps getting better and better. HTC will have to come up with a pretty good replacement before I switch to another one.

Yeah I ran the unlock program on the phone. It says its unlocked but I don't think it is. I managed to get tom tom 5 to install by going into the 2577 folder and activating the files in there one by one and now tom tom works for me.
I have since returned to the UK. The UK orange simcard that would connect to orange NL will now not connect to orange UK. My O2 simcard will not connect to any network either. I will re-download the unlock file and re-unzip it in case I have a problem there and then re-use it. I am following the tutorial on the thread is there anything missing from the instructions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957 I must be doing something wrong as loads of other people are getting good results with this program. How do I know if my simcard is a USIM?
I think the USIM issues is a red herring- unless you have a VERY old SIM then it should work with the handset- this is according to Vodafone.
This may sound really stupid, but are you sure you put the SIM in the right way round?
The first time I tried my Voda SIM with my unlocked Orange M700 it said "No SIM". I think I may have had it upside down....as later it just started working OK.
Yeah already thought of that. Thing is the lebara network card that isn't even recognised as being in the phone looks physically different to the other sims that are recognised. The only card that will log onto a network is the UK orange one which is now logging on and working(I had a netwrok setting wrong). The O2 sim keeps coming up with denied, searching. In manual network selection it also denies service and comes up with no service.
In short there are a couple of things I am unsure of. I've run it in manual as well.
1. Transfer SSPL/SSPL-TRIN.exe to your phone and run it
done and understood
2. Tri-color screen will appear
Yep
3. Disable activesync (file -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections")
This I don't understand and when I disable activesync my phone no longer communicates with the pc
4. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
When I do this with activesync disabled nothing happens so I have to reinstate activesync to continue
5. Run RUU/ROMUpgradeUtility.exe
done this
6. Follow the flashing process (Check the "I understand..." and "I completed..." boxes and update!)
and this
7. Allow your phone to reboot.
See now my phone doesn't reboot itself here I physically have to either press the power button or push the little button on the bottom
8. Transfer TRIN_Unlock_v1.exe program to your phone and run it
yeah can do this easy
9. Click the Unlock Button, select unlock option. Select if you want SIM/CID unlock.
and this
10. Click "Unlock!" and wait until process finishes.
yeah of course
11. When done, turn off your phone for 10 seconds and reboot after that.
OK maybe I don't have this reboot off to pat but I turn it off and then press that little button on the bottom with the stylus
Now I have tried this with an orange card in, with an O2 card in, with no card in and the result is always the same No joy. I am so clearly getting something wrong and its getting very frustrating.
Can I ask where you got you phone from? Was it a new purchase from a supplier, or from Ebay etc?
The fact that a UK SIM works in NL, but nothing seems to work in UK, shows that the Radio does actually work, but not in all locations.
This could suggest that the phones IMEI number is being blocked for some reason- usually if the phone has been reported lost or stolen. Or the fact that the UK Orange SIM now seems to work may imply that the phone CID /SIM unlock didn't take properly.
It may be worth trying another unlocking tool. If you pop over to Modaco, their Trinity forum has a good unlocker which worked on my Orange M700
Yeah it was an ebay phone. Its being a right pain. I have tried completely unlocking the security using this guide http://wiki.spv-developers.com/HTC_Application_Unlock_Guide
Its not unlocking. I cannot edit the registry from a pc based application and it won't let me instal a reg edit program. I need to find an older than feb 06 rom file and try again. I am begining to think this phone is a dodgy one. How do I find out if its registered stolen?

How do I find out if its registered stolen?

To find out about the phone's status, call Orange Customer Services (07973 123 150) and get them to check the IMEI number (Settings/Device Information/Identity Tab)
For the Super CID, you could try This app on Modaco. It seems pretty reliable. Once flashed, you can them apply any ROM image update.

Hi,
My quick penneth's worth:
I've had M2000 - pile of junk (real technical problems) compared with M5000 - great 'phone, great functionality - absolutely no technical problems.
M700 replicates the M5000 functionality, except with built-in GPS!
Absolutely the best 'phone ever, glad to agree to 18 month contract (as opposed to my usual rule of never agreeing to more than 12 months).
Everything about the M700 shouts out that it really has been thought about before production - right down to clear plastic covered paint as opposed to painted plastic.
Not the smallest of 'phones, but I believe that this is about as optimum as you will get size-wise if you want a screen to be useful for WM5/6.
You will not regret the move from M2000 - trust me.

Update. I got a new orange simcard put that in it and after the texts that orange sent it now also works with a uk vodafone simcard. It still doesn't even recognise either of my lebara cards as a simcard so I think there is a problem with that type of sim. I'll try another Dutch card in it when I get back there and see if that works.

2. Tri-color screen will appear when at this screen unplug usb then plug back in, windows should detect usb device (htc usb sync) as far as i can tell windows needs this driver installing to communicate outside of activesync!
this maybe for Vista only? i dont know? but worth a try!
if i am wrong someone please correct me
I had a similar problem. After I installed a peice of SPB software to memory card - the phone side opf the PDA couldnt lock on to the network. It wouldn't work with any other SIM either!!
Orangre replaced the SIM just in case. However I ended up doing a hard reset.
I think the problem is the way that the M700 handles large memory cards. theres plenty of threads on that one!!
Once, after an install of TomTom - all my other folders were wiped on the card.
I'm now using SPB Backup and am making a copy of my memory card too.
I got it working in the end with persistence. I got a second phone I was so impressed with it. I then proceeded to fall off my bike and smash the first phone up. Broke the screen. When repairing it I managed to break the screens ribbon retaining clip and socket and then fried a power capacitor or something fitting the battery backwards so unless I can find a new main board I am up the creek with that phone.
