Okay, newbie upgrader here.
I've read a bunch in these forums, and it's been very helpful.
I upgraded my personal PPCPE (TMO) using their software, and it works great.
I was round my friend's house last night, and he has a PPCPE (AT&T).
Well, we downloaded the v30.09 firmware from Siemens website.
We backed up all the data.
We intalled the firmware.
At the end of the firmeware update, it said to turn the device off by using the hard reset button (that you have to unsccrew the stylus for.) and leave it off for a minute.
We did this.
It then said to turn it back on using the same reset button.
We did this.
However, we get the "Designed for Windows Mobile" logo, and the AT&T logo.
We get ROM versions:
G1.3.3
RA.33.02
A.30.09
After that nothing.
Having hastily given him my phone, I came home with his broken phone.
Well, having done a LOT of reading on this site, I got to use Jeff's tools to create a bootimage on an SD card, and I have been able to get the image flashed and loaded.
They device now boots.
However, I want to get the AT&T software on there as this is what's gonna make my buddy the most happy.
The image I have on there right now is SERv12.
Can somebody PLEASE tell me the best way to get this back to AT&T software running WM2003.
Thanks.
Okay, more info.
I have been successfully upgrading the ROM using the SD flash method.
I have been using Jeff's XDAtools to create the images.
I have been downloading ROM's from yorc and xdaweblink.
I have always tried versions without any software added to the ROM.
I have tried every version of 30.09 that I could get my hands on, even the one in the "SX56 upgrade utility" folder that the Siemens site created.
None have worked.
I have tried 4.00.05 ENG from yorc - didn't work (cool southpark screen though.)
I have tried 4.01.16 ENG from weblink - didn't work (Tmo verison)
I have tried 4.01.00 ENG beta from weblink - didn't work (Tmo beta version.)
I have tried A.30.07 ENG beta from weblink - didn't work (AT&T NFR version.)
I have tried 3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro from yorc -
When I say that the version don't work; here's what I mean.
I get the logo screen.
I get the three ROM versions in the bottom right.
The system then locks up and does not progress any further.
I have left the system on overnight with no difference.
The backlight comes on, but nothing else works.
I have tried the upgrades with and without a SIM card in place.
The phone was originally locked, but has subsequently been unlocked.
I have finally tried going back to A.20.17 from yorc - the original AT&T WM2002 version.
This version at least runs.
I still have the new radio stack running, but I am back to WM2002.
Does anyone have ANY idea how I might get this upgraded to WM2003.
My buddy want to run the MS Voice Command.
Also, with the updated Radio Stack, will he be able to connect continiously to the GPRS connection (sorry, I don't know too much about AT&T.) He really want the always-on internet.
Thanks for ANY advice given.

This happened to me using a mmc memory card to do the upgrade, it looked like it was doing everything ok, completed and gave the ok but on cold boot just hung, try another sd card, it just MIGHT work.
I'll look around for anohter SD card and see if that helps.
FYI, I've tried running the upgrade from the cradle/USB a couple of times, but that made no difference.
Also, since I was able to go back to WM2002 with the SD card, I can't see it being bad.
But thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go.

i have an mda where i cleared the memory on the phone and then i took out the battery to change the sim card before before everything loaded back up, i tried flashing it with a new t-mobile rom but it hangs up at the t-mobile screen is there anything that i can do or is the phone now a brick, i can get into the boot loader sceen without any proble
Thanks in advance
try to flash an official rom first. Also is your phone unlocked?
Yes the phone is unlocked and what rom are you talking about when you say official.
Thanks in advance
any official shipped rom from a provider.. something that wasnt cooked..
i did already from t-mo
crap, i must be more tired than i thought, i cant believe i missed that, and i read your initial post twice.. is your phone G3 or G4? and when you go to the bootloader what is your IPL/SPL
As mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296102 I'm having some issues with my Wizard variant. In short:-
- It won't vibrate (I've tried all the software options)
- It won't sync (with either Activesync for PC or Missing Sync for Mac)
- The internal memory seems to have become locked, so I am unable to install new programs or delete unwanted ones.
It's a UK T-Mobile MDA Vario flashed with the I-Mate 2.16.9.1 WWE ROM about a year ago.
I'm starting to think that a full factory reset is my only option to get the thing working properly again.
Can someone please talk me through it or talk me out of it?
Thanks.
From the manufacturer's site --
How do I reset the device to factory settings?
Select Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. Type 1234 in the box and tap YES. This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory settings
Well, that's the reset done. It seems to be stuck on "Running Install_Tsk.exe...". If it goes horribly wrong, Argos have got a cheapo phone on sale at £20 that'll tide me over until my contract expires next month...
You might try re-flashing the ROM you had on there or even upgrading to the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM and see if that solves your problem.
If I'm right, it should still be CID and sim unlocked from when I first flashed it with the K-Jam ROM. In fact, every time it has rebooted since the reset, it comes up with the HTC and I-Mate splash screens instead of the T-Mobile one I was expecting, which can only be good news.
I'm thinking of flashing it with a WM6 ROM. Any good ones come recommended?
I don't think anything will re-CID lock it unless you chose to do it yourself so you should still be good there. Which ROM to choose though is kind of based on personal preference. There's plenty to choose from in the WM6 section. The best thing to do is to read through the different ones, pick one you like and then flash it. If it turns out you don't like it that much, try a different one or use one of the kitchens and cook one for yourself.
By the way, before you flash any WM6 version, you should still flash t-mobiles 2.26 so you have a good IPL/SPL to work with and a clean base for it since you're having problems with your old version.
Thank you very much for your tips. Tomorrow is Sunday and I have no plans; looks like it's ROM flashing day!
Good luck. Make sure you read through everything before you flash anything, but since you're already CID unlocked it should be easy.

Hello All,
I recently got an ATT 8525 and I'm trying to use it with my T-Mobile (US) SIM. I was able to successfully unlock the SIM and CID with an util/rom I found on this site (I think the post was from Pof). And I also re-flashed the phone with the latest ROM available.
But after about 5-10mins of usage the signal dies and when I reboot it says No GSM. Looks like the Radio ROM gets corrupted. I tried just re-flashing the Radio ROM and that doesn't help either. It works for short while and again the signal dies.
And also, I'm unable to install any of the generic ROMs (Fantastic Mobiz, PVET 40005) Although I'm connected to Active Sync when I run the Step 1 (ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G3.exe), I get a ERROR [222] : DEVICE NOT RESPONDING. And when I run the step 2 directly (update_rom.bat) I get an cannot update itsutils.dll maybe in use error.
As you can tell I've been messing with phone a lot for a couple of days with no luck and my frustration level is kinda high
As of now here’s where I stand. I re-flashed the phone (Image: 3.62, Radio 1.50) and it’s on the “Tap the screen to set up your windows based mobile device” screen. I plan on leaving it on this screen until I can a good solution.
I would like to get rid of the ATT ROM and install one of those hybrid generic ROM that is not Carrier specific. Any help will be much appreciated. Share your ideas, I’m very experimental

Man, I didn't even plan to have alliteration, and there it is!
So, I have had my cingular 8525 for about a year right now, and in the last 2 weeks or so I have been getting some bad problems popping up. For some background, I bought the phone in Texas and was using it on the cingular network for some time when they switched to the AT&T network. I flashed VP3G's AT&T roms using hardSPL and they worked well for some time. Then, I came to Europe to do a semseter abroad. I unlocked my phone using some software I found here on the forums (don't remember exactly what it was) and got an 02 SIM card. Everything went fine, was working well until I went on holiday to Europe. I didn't really use my phone much there because it was so expensive, but as soon as I got back I started to have problems.
For about a week, my phone would just drop in and out of service in places that it had not had any trouble working in before. What would happen is, in the place where there is normally the bars for reception, there would simply be an exclamation point and any time I would try to make a call it would fail, sometimes with a message, sometimes without. Then a couple of seconds later, I would have full service again, then it would go to the exclamation point again, full service, etc. It just kept cycling through them.
So, I came to my trusty forums here to try and figure out what was wrong. I flashed a different radio (from 1.47.30.10 to 1.48.0.0) which didn't fix it. I tried downgrading my SPL from hardSPL to 1.04, then upgrading back to the most recent hardSPL v7, which didn't work. I tried putting a new OS on it, the 19900 build, which didn't work. I tried switching the radio back, which didn't work. Then I started noticing that when I was starting up my phone, I was getting a 'no GSM' dialog where it used to say the radio version. I searched around the forums, finding some different solutions for the no GSM problem, and decided to try completly reflashing to an AT&T shipped rom.
So, I downloaded the ROM from the HTC site, downgraded my SPL to 1.04 again, and started the flash process. At 11% it stopped and had an error, and after that it wouldn't leave bootloader mode. I again searched the forum and tried to use MTTY to fix it. The command 'set 14 0' didn't work but 'set 16 0' did.
Now, my phone boots again, but it starts up with the AT&T screen, then goes into the 19900 build OS. As it stands now, I still keep dropping in and out of service, but I am afraid to try any more fixes for fear that I will screw something up again (like locking it in bootloader mode). Any ideas of the next step I should take to fix my (probably) corrupt radio?
OS: PDAVIET build 19900
Radio: 1.47.30.10
IPL: 1.03 (from failed AT&T flash)
SPL: 1.11 (from failed AT&T flash)
Update: I just soft reset my phone, and now the 'phone' feature of it won't even turn on when I select it in the comm manager!
Update update: As I was writing this, the phone just turned itself back on without me trying to in the comm manager. Maybe its just possessed, and I should seek the help of a priest!
1). Have you tried taking out the battery for a while? It seems that the hard reset is somewhat different from the soft reset and can fix this...
2). Check for bad blocks with MTTY... Remember though that sometimes the carriers put in "Bad Block" to brand the phone as theirs...
3). Try flashing a stock rom then reflashing wm6.1. This seems to help a hell of a lot of people fix the HR problem.
Hope these help you.... Cheers.
