Hi All,
I bought an XDAII about 2 weeks ago and am very please with it, however, when I make and receive calls, the sound seems to be very muffled. The people I call also comment that I sound very muffled too. Is there something wrong with it, or is this usual ? I was also wondering if a Radio Stack upgrade may cure this problem.
Here are my current versions etc.
ROM Version 1.03.00 USA
ROM Date 09/24/03
Radio Version 1.05.12
Protocol Version 1337.12
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob.
unfortunately it doesnt.
i know what you mean . . . but i upgraded my radio stack to 1.10 and it's still the same sound
i just hope it's just a setting of how the audio is decoded by the radio (sort of like the nokia setting you can turn on and off (at the expense of battery power) forgot what it's called.
cuz if it's not that, then it just means it's got a lousy speaker hehehe
hehe.. Thanks for the reply mate. At least I'm not the only one with a muffly speaker n mic
Ta,
Rob.
no prob
i think everybody has the same problem, only they just dont think it's a biggie (or aren't as picky as us) since the audio STILL is intelligible anyways
Has anyone else encountered a problem when either using the phone normally or through the speakerphone option, there is a slight rattling when the volume's set high?
This is quite annoying if common and is something other speakerphone phones seem to suffer from.

XDA2 not as good as it looks
Hi there
I have my XDA2 for 5 months and I´m in love with it, whenever one of my freinds mention its faults I get upset :?
But, we all know that the XDA2 is FAULTY big time, sofware not well developed yet, and yes, we think twice about buying software (same apply to hardware)
I have learn how to live with all this, still think that the XDA2 is a top tool for work and everyday life and I hope that other machines come to the market to compete, then we will get value for money
Bad Sound Quality
Hi,
I also bought a MDA II (T-Mobile Germany) some weeks ago. I really like it, but I also think that the sound quality is not the best. There are two effects that annoy me:
1. I can hear a high pitched beep in the speaker, always when the device is switched on (not only when talking on the phone but always if it is switched on). It is not very loud, but I can hear it clearly in quiet environment (my ears are still too good I think...).
2. The sound has to much "base" and to less "treble". Well, you can understand the person on the other end but this is definitly the worst sound quality I ever had on a phone.
This is the only thread I could find discussing this problem, leading me to the conclusion that either most phones are good and I got a bad one or most people don't bother if a very expensive phone sounds like a $5 toy...
Is there a chance to get a better sounding replacement phone or should I learn to be happy with it?
Regards,
Oli
Sounds Rubbish
Hi guys
i noticed the sound isn't as good as the XDA I when playing mP3's or MPG files on it.
does anyone know if there is anything that can be done to correct this ??
other than buying a set of speakers to go with it, doesn't seem much else ! ;(
any solution for this???????
I've got the same problem, however I've noticed that the sound is clear when I use the XDA 2 with my tomtom navigator the voice instructions are very clear, its strange + when I use the speaker phone the other party can hardly hear me.
sorry to tell you this, but i have got mine repaired and strange that they changed the motherboard to get rid of this problem, means it is a mother board problem not speaker or software.

The high pitched beep is caused by the poor filtering of the power electronics of the background lightning of the touchscreen. It is worse if the light is set to low. If you set it one or two notches higher, the beep sound will go away (or at least you won't hear it anymore).
Well i think its true. why? read on!
I bought my XDA II a few weeks ago. Its a love & hate machine & i won't get into that. But i think i have damaged the speaker .. as in i can notice sound getting distorted at times. It probably happened when i played this audio file at full volume .. which was actually for less than 2 seconds!! Ever since then, i can tell how the sound from the speaker comes out distorted. Same exact thing happened with my brother, where he played some song at full volume & it apperntly blew his speaker. I've soft reseted the machine multiple times (who doesn't!) ever since but no hard reset yet.
Although my question is .. is it really _that_ easy to blow the speaker?! The device should either have a speaker that can handle the amplification it is being providing, or not amplify the sound to levels the speaker can't handle. Blowing your speaker away on the first attempt to play something loud seems awfully lousy to me from a machine's design point of view.
Has anyone else experienced such problem or know of some remedy? I don't want to open the machine up & get the speaker repaired. Would really appreciate any help on the matter.
Thank you all.
Hi m8. Don't know if you've tried this but I had a problem a while ago where I could not hear any sound at all. I could make a phone call and ther person on the other end could hear me fine but I could not hear anything. I found the way to make it work again would be to squeeze the thing at the top near the earpiece (as if it was a loose connection).
Like I said, don't know if you've tried this but it worked for me. Have you got warranty?
Hey Camel, i have had my sx56(wallaby) all the way apart, and the only thing attatching the mainboard to the speaker are two little spring-loaded contacts, perhaps try tightening the screws on the back of your device (if it's anything like mine), this should make the connection between your speaker and mainboard more secure.

hey mate,
yep same thing with mine. now anything above about 50% in a phone call and it's all distorted.
pretty annoying, i've just got to get around to opening it up and checking the speaker contacts/replacing speaker with a spare.
will post results.
Curious if it works with the Kaiser and if you would recommend it.
Thanks!

Motorola S9
New to this site. First time poster. I just got these headphones for my Tilt. I tried them with my 8125 using mfrazz WM6 rom and they worked well. Volume got fairly loud and sound quality was pretty good.
I haven't gotten my microSD card yet for the Tilt, but listened to some of the music that came with phone. Volume was lower, but I don't know if that was the audio level of that particular file. I haven't tried it with any personal mp3 files. I placed a phone call with this headset and sound quality was average. The caller could only be heard through the left earphone, not stereo.
The headset was fairly comfortable to wear, but I haven't tried it for extended periods. I'm going to try using it while running this weekend to see how well it stays in place.
that combo works great for me, used them at the gym all the time
There are many many user comments about these headphones over at Howard Forums bluetooth message forum. I went thrui 2 paris of these. Both failed for the same reason, The first lasted 1 week. the second lasted 1 month. The issue is they aren't really sweatproof as they claim. if you sweat alopt (and running in Phoenix will make you sweat), they konk out (i.e. technical term for stop working altogehter) after a while. The seals aren't really tight enough to keep water out. I tried a second one cuaz there were rumors of a bad inital batch. so I got a one from a later batch a couple months after and it did the same.
Two other issues with them: they tended to skip alot and also people complained it wasn';t very good for calls. So, if you have had good xperience with them that's great. But if you are still considering them, be forewarned. I loved the concept of them. But they just didn't meet their own marketing's expectations IMO.
Im now looking at the Plantronics 855, which is just becoming avail. No it's not sweatproof (but at least they don't claim to be). I;ve given up on getting a sweatproof BT headset for now. But otherwise, it looks like it might be a great solution for both calls and "casual" music.
Here's my two cents...
I bought the S9 headphones a few months ago after using the Motorola HT820's for close to a year (the HT820's are the ones that make you look like Mickey Mouse when you wear them).
The pros:
- The sleeker design of the S9 dont make you look like Mickey Mouse or Princess Lea. In fact, many people don't even realize I'm wearing headphones at all...
- They generally sound good
- The controls on both ears allow you to start/stop phone calls, raise and lower the volume, start/stop music and change music tracks
The cons (as compared with the HT820):
- Battery life is not wonderful -- the HT820's provide 14 hours or music, the S9 seem to provide more like 8
- Phone call audio plays only in one ear (the left one, to be exact). I had gotten used to phone calls in stereo...
- The middle button on each ears' control panel is a bit hard to use -- and those are the buttons which are used to start/stop phone calls and play/pause music
Overall, the sound quality is good. I dont usually have many dropouts during music and almost never during phone calls. People have never complained that they cant hear me speaking when using the S9 for calls.
Hope this helps....
Music sounds pretty decent. Not on caliber with a nice set of wired phones, but compared to the Shure Ec3, I'd give them a 7. On the plus side, if you can get a good fit for your ear, the bass response is a bit better than some of the "reference" quality earbuds. I think this is a matter of taste though.
Comfort is OK, but my ears do get a bit sore after an hour or so, but never to the point where I feel the need to take them off.
Music controls work fine, but I have not had great luck with activating incoming calls from the headset. Sometimes it works, others not. The buttons don't have a great tactile feel, so I may not be hitting the accept call button squarely. I also notice the music does not always pick right back up after using the head set activation button, so for these reasons, I usually hit the call accept button on the phone. This works fine.
I do get occasional skipping, but this seems to be related to Activesync.
I get occasional droped connections. Just turn the headset off and back on to reconnect. Happens maybe 1 out of 7 times I use them, and usually in the first few minutes - odd.
Phone call quality leaves a lot to be desired. For some reason, they only play through one ear when on a call and is seems that no matter what I do, the incoming person is too loud and boomy, even when I turn it way down. Usually this is passable for a short conversation, but if the person on the other end has an unfamiliar accent, I wind up having to switch over to the handset. People in general say they can hear me fine, but I don not use them in an environment with a lot of ambient noise.
That being said, I still use them very often at work as I don't get a lot of personal calls during the day. Battery life is usually sufficient for most of the day on a full charge. If you are at your desk the entire day, you may find they are drained before the end of the day (6-7 hours).
For home, I was thinking about picking up a pair of the Bluetrek phones. From the reviews I have read, if they fit you well, the sound quality is good, the battery life is a bit longer (though not much), they play phone calls in both ears and come with a nice carry case.
One final consideration, for some reason they do not get very loud with the Kaiser connection. It is still adequate, but if you like your music really loud, they may be lacking. I wouldn't rile them out on this though as they are plenty loud when connecting to my laptop, so there might be some software limitation on the volume which can be tweaked in the registry. I have seen some others mentioning this too and have not come across a fix yet, but I'd be willing to bet there will be one as soon as the BT headphones start getting more use.
Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please be kind
When I listen to MP3 I hear a high pitched whine as the player switches between songs. It only occurs for a second or two right before the music starts, is followed by some lower pitch crackling and then when the track is playing this high pitched noise is absent.
It's relative volume to the music is loud enough that it's pretty irritating.
Is this normal for the Xperia or should I be getting my handset replaced? It's an UK O2 xperia with the latest "leaked" rom loaded and using AKG k414p headphones
Thanks
Tome
First test it with different headphones. If it still occurs then, try another ROM.
This is not a generic bug, as I don't have the problem myself, nor have I seen anyone else post about it here (and trust me, if the problem arose more often, people would have).
So, test a few things and then come back to report =]
thanks
I've just checked with another set of headphones and I can still hear it
The problem occurs on both the original o2 rom and 1.03.931.8 which is the latest that i'm aware of.
I'll see if I can think of anything else to try.
Thanks
I think it is a general bug.
I know, my old SE W850i wasn't made by HTC, but it had the same issue.
It looks like a pink noise, and you don't hear it for very long, because after a few moments (1,5 sec or something) it just dies.. (Like a gate is fading it out)
Since it you can only hear it in a very quite place, it doesn't matter to me..
I'm not gonna use my X1 in places where I need high dynamics..
Have played about with it a bit more and found that the issue isn't as apparent at all when using the player on the Media Panel. I was previously using Pocket Player.
Hi!
Just to confirm: I Have that high pitched noise too. Just two seconds before next track starts.
No changes between R1AA and R2AA. Actually using Pocketplayer as SRSWOW HD disabled Windows Meadia Player Volume Control. Music on 8GB SDHC Card.
Bax
I got my xperia replaced and it would appear that my original handset was faulty. With the new one i can still hear a very quiet and very high pitched whine when it loads up the next track but this noise is in conspicous enough that i can live with it.
The original handset has a much louder high pitched pink noise and also noise like static, so if you're experiencing something like that you should get your handset replaced
looks like i spoke too soon.
This handset has also developed the popping static noise that the previous unit had looks like this could be a generic Xperia fault. It really is quite odd that it would work fine for a day and then develop the same fault as the previous unit.
I experience the same high pitched noise in my swedish X1. It seems to get a little less noticeable when using bigger headphones, but with IEMs it's pretty pronounced but yet acceptable. Another thing that is much more annoying is the cutting out in the beginning and end of songs. Is there a way to get gapless playback in TF3D mode (skinned wmp?) on the X1?
:-O
amazingly.... the file seek noise has been eliminated after I installed Touch-it v7!!!!
I'm happy with the x1 as a music player now but it does beg the question "why can't SE sort it out!!!" as it's evidently more likely a software issue rather than a hardware issue.
Hi All.
Have not posted on here in a LONG WHILE, but here goes:
Recently I got my hands on a Note 4 (SM-N910S) (its one of those Korean models that have LTE-A X3)
and when I first got my hands on it it was fine and all, but after a while, whatever earphone I plugged in, it sounded weird, and the only solution was to bias the sound to the left (in PowerAmp, my music app of choice) which somehow centered the sound but it sounded like it was on Mono the whole time as I could not hear the whole range of speakers being used.
Last week I dropped by a repair center and asked for a jack replacement, they charged me 10$ for the part and about 20$ for the labor (I was busy so I said hell with it). After I received it back, There is still a problem
Now what happens is the sound appears to be very muddy, and if, for example I was listening to something with a large variety of sound, like heavy metal or EDM, it sounds really drowned and far away, and the bass seems non-existent at all, and the speakers which seem like they are there for bass and/or sound directed to sort of rear-way are not working at all, and the treble side of things seem very harsh. When I bias the sound to the left now, what happens is the volume seems to decrease!
So before I spend any money on this thing, I want to know if you guys think I still need the jack replaced (this time by me maybe) or if something else is wrong, because I use this phone heavily for music (nearly 30gb worth loaded on it, used very heavily, on the daily) as well as for entertainment purposes, so it is very important to me I get this thing on track.
Any advice is welcome, as I am also quite desperate to solve this issue.
Oh, and the phone is pretty much brand new, got it on christmas/januaryish, and has never been damaged or used hardly, its only been rooted, and is currently on 5.1.1
IF I did post this to the wrong section, mods I am sorry, please feel free to move it.
Thanks in advance to any help. :good:
Have you tried adjusting the sound settings on the music player app? Does this happen with other headsets?

Yes I have, as I said, ive tried multiple headsets, and ive tried all the settings and multiple apps. I can tell it is a hardware problem since when I send the sound to the left earphone, it only lowers the volume, but the sound doesn't move/bias.
Why not try a pair of bluetooth headphones. It will establish if there are problems with the sound DAC of the board or if it is a hardware fault pertaining to the headphone jack connectors. If its the sound DCA it might also go away with a reflash of the factory image through Odin.
