Is it me, or has the herald never gotten popular? And why not? I mean it's a smaller, faster and better Wizard. Comparing to the activity on the Wizard or even the big, chubby Hermes, this sub forum is close to dead! I dont get it.
I'm thinking that too, cause If we see the other forums, the others PDA has a lot of movement in their forums. I think that model is so great, better than other models like the models that you said.
It's just a matter of time. When I joined this forum I already had my HTC Prophet for some time and the community was similar in size and activity like the Herald's now. If you have a look at the Prophet forum now its pretty huge and active, too. It also depends on the prices those devices are sold so people will jump faster on them. The Prophet is avaible for just 10€ with a provider contract here in Germany, the Herald not even close. At least we have some very active users already on our side experimenting in putting cooked ROMs on our beloved Herald's. Sooner or later we we will be able to choose which custom ROM we want to put on our devices.

Yep -i guess also. The wing in america is our chance for cooked roms. Because german romcooker are not very presented (look at ppc-welt.com)
Except you and me - lol
So what can the folks with the Wizard do that we can't as far as ROMs? I just quit using my Wizard (or should I say it quit), and bought my Herald. From everything I see it's the same phone internally. So doesn't it make sense to be able to use a cooked Wizard ROM in a Herald? Of course I don't have the balls to try this myself to see if it works, that's why I'm asking the question.

Wizard uses an "old" os file version = nbf
herald uses = nbh
and the nbh files have to be signed. and we cannot singd it.
That´s the difference. It is not such eays like oin wizard and on hermes they got a prefabricated bootloader with supercid.
for herald they amde it better like for vista etc.

Exactly, the newer devices follow a higher protected filessystem.
The differences might look minor, but they are effective from being modified.
As papamopps said, its comparable with WinXP's to WinVista's protection.
But I'm certain we will have our custom ROM some time soon.
Other XDA communities like PDAMobiz or PDAViet and many others
are having their hands on HTC devices, so I wouldn't worry much,
at least we will get official WM6 ROMs and that's something.
It's just a matter of time... the Wing is the hottest selling PDAphone so far in the US.
And believe me, I bring up custom ROMs for the Herald/Atlas/Wing every chance I get!

the ship rom sucks
I also hink it's only a matter of time but for the time been I have had the herald (tmobile Wing) for 3 days and I am soooooo frudtrated with the lack of program memory (not storage memory) on this thing it's a nice phone but geeees the rom on it sucks I cant even have half the programs I had on my Wizard installed 15 programs and the 16th one was igo gps nav and it wont run unless I do a soft reset from lack of memory so i am thinking to go back to the Wizard untill I REAL custom rom is available without all the T-Mobile crap in it I tried to get some of the stuff out but not much luck most of the Tmobile stuff is par of the rom as far as I can tell. 3 days and I really miss the core 2.0n I have on the wizard WHAT A DIFFERENCE.
Not sure if i agree about best selling, Dash still outsells the wing in my area of the us Minnesota. The low memory issues is still really annoying me. official rom is out there somewhere?
With the latest rom from the danish retailer Dangaard, my P4350 is running quite well, haven't had memory problems since flashing it.
Well i guess the people are getting confused by the herald... i bought it because i knew that there is an dual core inside + windows mobile 6! If you don't know that the processor is a dual core, then 201Mhz just seem to be a bit low... i'm running them now on 260Mhz - kinda battery drain, but the speed is awesome! DVD watching *jammi*
The WM6 fixed a lot of bugs and added features, that are very handy + it has long time support, because of the "windows mobile update" option.

Yeah - after 30minutes of researching i found that out too... but why does the xda-developers wiki state a dual core in the prohpet running on TI 850?

hi there
I know it's WM5 upgrade not available right now but I was just wondering that if it'll ever be possible that mini would be upgraded to WM5.Is it possible or mini doesn't meet the hardware requirements of WM5?your ideas?
Read the forums This was discussed all over the place!
However
You can always hope, especially as teh o2 atom specs ate similar.
I get mine hopefully next week when I am over in China.
Nope, never, jamais, nunca, nie, никогда, nooit, ποτέ, mai.

I hope that you are aware that Magician and o2 atom are not only different devices, BUT ALSO FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS.
I will not be so naive to hope for WM5 on Magician, instead I hope for a nice brandnew WM5 device under the christmas tree. This hope is more likely to become true
Oh, another one!
  BWAAA HAA HAA HAAA HAAAA HAAAA
Sorry, but I find people who ask this funny!
Especially because WM5 is absolutely uninteresting. It has been very slow on almost any new devices and the "nomore backups" issue isn't important to most of us people since we know how to make good backups - don't we?
I think WM5 is interessting! Not because of the Backup-Options.
Look here:
http://mobile-review.com/pda/articles/wm2005-1-en.shtml
The Outlook Contacts for example are _much_ better in WM5.
You see the Contact's full name _and_ the numbers and calling is so much easier!
Hate to sound like a newbie (which I am, just got my Mini/Magician today and first post to the forum), but according to some websites (http://www.gsmarena.com/o2_xda_atom-1372.php), looks like the new Atom will use the same processor as the Mini? Only difference is 128MB ram and possibly wifi (although another thread is debating that issue).
Wouldn't that be reason enough to expect a way to install Atom's WM5 to the Mini?

Stupy, the problem is not just the processor type. The OS has to interface with all the hardware on your device such as Camera, BT chip, WiFi, Screen, etc. All of these require "drivers" that have to be written specifically for your hardware.
Unfortunately WM5 on the Magician is almost impossible. Unofficial upgrades for other devices occured simply because M$ and/or carriers were testing the new OS on these devices and the ROM got leaked. Now that the testing is over who do you think will take his time and effort to develop this interface for free??? And that's providing he/she has the necessary resources.
At this point the only way to upgrade to WM5 is to sell your device and get a new one :-( I will probably go for the 02 XDA Atom or HTC Prophet fairly soon.
(btw, I really really hope someone proves me wrong )
look at this link
http://www.shinyshiny.tv/2005/12/pink_pda.html
the specs are almost identical to xda2mini except for the 128mb, does this mean there is still hope that wm5 would still be possible for mini?

Thanks kta for sorting that out. I just got the Mini, so it'll be a little while before I get the Atom - they don't sell too many of these types of phones here in Canada. No matter, I'll be happy with what I've got. Cheers!
Hi Folks,
I need a bit of help choosing my next PDA, I've had loads of pocketPC, windows mobile devices inc. HP Jornada 548, Tosh 540, Dell X5, iPAQ hx4700 but this will be my first forage into "convergance" devices.
I was originaly tempted to upgrade my phone to the Orange UK version of the HTC TyTN but i'm now getting cold feed with all this talk of new devices due out, I know there are always newer and better just around the corner but I don't want to jump into a 12 month contract just to find a newer and better unit being available next week.
My dilema is this.....after seeing the specs for the O2 Zinc with the Xscale 520Mhz processor and seeing the benchmarks against the TyTN I'm now more inclinded to wait the for the release of this Zinc (26th March 07), however on my travels through the tinternet I have stumbled upon what I would consider my ideal device...the HTC Kaiser, does anybody have any ideas which network will be carring this device and when it will be released????
I'm fairly sure the overwelling opinion on the site will be for the TyTN but I just need to know what makes this device a "No Brainer" compaired to the O2 Zinc.
Cheers Jim

Not really the answer you want, but my philosophy on life is, get the best you can today and not worry about what's out tomorrow... otherwise you'll never get anything because you'll always find that a month or so down the line something better will come out... so to say!
Otherwise, the Zinc does seem impressive... but O2 have already delayed the release once, so who's to say it will actually be out at the end of march anyway
True....Very True. The exception to that case was the iPAQ hx4700. which in my opinion is still one of the very best PDAs out there and its now 2 years old ???
I decided to hang back for the release of the Zinc hoping WM6 will be on it. have you tried flashing your rom to wm6??? if so did you have any problems setting the phone back up for T-Mobile??

I'll agree with you on that... I used to have a hx4700 myself... it was the VGA aspect that appealed to me, but I felt it was before its time... oh, and slightly big!
I think the Zinc will have v5.2 on it???
I've flashed my MDA several times and can almost memorise the internet/mms settings that takes approx. 2 mins to put back in... its all good fun

Yeah - similar case here. I flash frequently and I could probably set it all back up again the way I like it with my eyes closed Top tip: get CAB files for all your favourite apps (and any relevant serial numbers) and keep them in a folder on your storage card. That way you can even get all set up from a full reset with nothing but your phone.

Absolutly agree.... I kept all my CAB files on my SD card..Just incase.. but that was WM03se. Is there a HTC "official" rom update available for wm6...where did the wm6 roms come from?? oh and whats the best...
back to the original question,
I own a TYTN and ive had good test run with the Zinc, even though the Zinc has a faster OS the tytn feels faster and reacts better. The finish of the Zinc is a big cheap looking too.
If i was to buy a new phone today it would be the Tytn again, if i was to wait then it would be kaiser or even one of the new samsungs.
Cheers lads.....Just bought a TYTN - Orange SPV M3100 to be more precise.
Now whats the score with all these ROM upgrades.
and is there a today plugin simliar to the Orange today screen
Problem with O2 is the data charges. They're probably the worst out of all the UK networks!
I'd hate to get a phone like the Zinc or Kaiser and have to constantly monitor my data useage.

That's far too big a question. You've got some reading to do - see the wiki
for the mods.. you can delete this message if you want...
i just want people warned specially in asia region that o2 zinc is not that good ..
although better processor ( but you will not see the difference compare to HTC hermes ),camera and o2 integrated software..
THere are many other choices on O2 products... Atom exec, atom life..etc..
Just not this is O2 Zinc is not worth recommending....
or im strongly recommending HTC HERMES (Dopod 838 pro, Softbank, or the HTC Tytn if available) if your fun of slide keyboard...
I promised you this will be a great help on you...
Trust me...
I just want you to be happy like me now..
Yep, everyone here in oz is talking about this- no places are stocking the Dopod D810 anymore as they cant get it.....
apparently within the next few weeks a new HTC P3600i will be released with more memory and a faster processor......
not sure if this is fiction or not but sounds good- strange though that they would release it here before anywhere else... we always seem to get technology like this about 6-12months after everywhere else (we only got electricity last week! )...... no iphone until late this year.... etc....
personally i think that it is just a rebranding of the current Dopod D810? Anyone from here who has good sources can confirm this?
look at the post halfway down the page here- one guy buying a heap from 3 has been told of the P3600i....:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=658349&p=-1#bottom
Personally I think it's just a rebranding ... cause the latest official Dopod WM6 ROM (we all jumped on ) states "HTC_P3600i" in the 'About' screen...
Or....in the case of a real P3600i, this would explain why there are some issues with this Dopod ROM on a regular P3600...
Hmz..
It's true
HTC is updating the Trinity with a 500MHz processor and larger memory. Also known as CHT9110 (our P3600 is CHT9100) in Taiwan and offered for about 20% price increase.
Why would they do this when HTC is unveiling a few new phones in a few months? To me the Polaris is the phone to get.....

Huh? The Polaris is the same exact phone as the 3300 but with 3G. It has a 2.8" screen, not a 3.5" screen, that was a typo. I have spec screen shots of the Polaris and it looks great.
Look at my ActiveSync, one of the choices is HTC P3600i
after flashing my trinity w/ Dopod's official WM6 ROM, activesync detects it as a P3600i already
it seem soo pc'ish to be willing to replace a device to get 100Mhz more
battery life is more importent
more so if one like to be online with messenger with 3g while on the move
i dont see much real world change in that
polaris seems like a pretty cool device imho
Yep it may be rebranded as HTC P3600i or Dopod810x anyway from what I have seen so far in some Asian websites (HTC P3600 = CHT9100 and the HTC P3600i = CHT9110)
the new specifications may be:
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
Samsung 500Mhz CPU
256MB ROM/64MB RAM
All the rest should remain the same as the previous model.
I can't say that it is 100% sure but you can still have a look at:
http://mobile.163.com/07/0718/10/3JM8DP840011179O.html

128M of RAM would definitely cause battery to drainer much quicker - unless they upgrade the battery too.

This is your opinion. I have used the Kaiser and as great of a phone it is, IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
I dislike slide out keyboards as I have had 2 phones like this and got rid of them both. I also dislike heavy phones and this phone is one of the heaviest phones I have held in a while.
Anyway, why would you post about the Kaiser in this thread? If anything, I would be waiting for the Polaris personally, not the Kaiser.

It´s a cool toy,really pricey and expensive but nice.More processor,more rom memory and WM6,I´m sure it´ll work "beautiful",but I see it really,really expensive.
And now is when I think....no Htc WM6 for our Trinities, which is something that I don´t even care,I´d rather pay our cooks.
My next toy will be E-TEN.
$1100 my god!
i personally think HTC should give it for free to existing 3600 owners... it is just a processor upgrade... how much is that for a hardware manufacturer, $0.5? ok .. a little bit memory... $1?
I bet the screen is the same ultrareflective thing... what about the paint? looks like the same thing.... then why is it soooo much expensive??

You talk about AU$1100.-- this is 655.- eu I think normal price here in europe and if you can deliver for this price 0.50 this processor you can deliver 1000 pieces to me with 100% margin for you, Keep on Dreaming.
I received mine yesterday from 3 in Australia. Its exactly the same as the D810 except for 500mhz cpu and 256mb flash. The ROM version, Radio version and protocol version are the same as in the official WM6 D810 ROM (at least in Australia). Needless to say, the application mix is identical to the D810 WM6 load.
The only external difference is that the case has the htc logo on the front top left and rear bottom centre instead of the dopod logo. The colouring of the buttons etc is exactly the same as the d810.
The box it comes in is new, Black and Green vs the Red that the Dopod came in.
OW has dropped price to AU$995, but release date back to 7th September. Does anybody know if three will sell these outright? Never mind... found it on their site $1,049

Ahhh, you've obviously never used the MioA701! That was my first GPS integrated PDA Phone, bought 5 for my staff and spent 1 month trying to get the stupid things to work properly. Returned them all and got 5 x Dopod P800W (Artemis). Thank god for HTC!

Thanks Dadowizard....I appreciate
so does the paint still flake off on this revised 3600?
Hmmm, so if this HTC P3600i is about $1000 AUS that is about $822 USD. I have seen the Kaiser offered for pre-order at about the same amount here in the US.
I imagine the price will settle a little lower once they are rolling them out.
I would really prefer to see a little bit more of jump in features before I will be yearning to spring this kind of cash though...
Both the Kaiser and the P3600i seem like relatively small upgrades, but not a leap. That is a quite a lot of memory though!
Maybe I'll buy one if a drop my Trinity down a well or something!
The thing that is really lagging behind here in the US is the 3G Networks themselves. T-Mobile hasn't rolled theirs out yet and att still isn't fullly National. Plus we still can't use the live Video Telephony feature fully on our existing phones.
just picked one up, on side of box says "Flash ROM 256MB / SDRAM 64MB. So no ram upgrade to 128 in Aus.
Can't say much more as it is on the charger... and its my first PDA/Phone so not much to compare against. No doubt I'll be getting flack for asking n00b questions soon.
For those interested, be aware that the new HTC P3600i can not be upgraded or flashed currently.
SSPL, HardSPL, Des SPL, splExploit all do not work at all on it. So far, i can't find a way to actually flash anything other than the official WM6 ANZ rom thats available.

HTC is playing cat and mouse with the ROM bakers. Someone will probably eventually figure out how to do it...but you never know, one day they might succeed in making them "cook" proof .
P3600i rom on P3600...
As far as I could see and also stated before the biggest difference is the CPU.
Would it be possible to upgrade a P3600 with the P3600i WM6 rom?
Its CPU and storage space.
The ROM on the P3600i, is the official WM6 ANZ rom for the P3600/Dopod D810 that was released a couple weeks back, nothing else to it, same protocol, radion, rom and IPL/SPL.
Except this bugger thing won't update no matter what i do so far, and can't get any help on it either.
Hi guys, I've been the prowd owner of a trinity for nearly 18 months now and am starting to get the old hassle from service providers that "providings" upgrades etc..
The thing is although there is a lot of hardware HTC have out there I just read the bumpf on the HD Blackstone and although its faster processor it doesn't seem to have the functionality of the trinity in the radio dept.
I'm looking for a 500mhz phone thats like the trin. The APX 2500 looks impressive but I don't think the service provider will go for it.
Need something with a little more oompf that is'n going to cripple my monthy spendings. Is there a Phone I can ' Upgrade' to that is running WM OS?
I've been using wm devices since I had a SPV E100. And flashing upgrading, tinkering with them for some time now. I will be developing software as soon as I have the ability to. Probably Mobi Java.
I'm looking for similar size phone with a 500 mhz or faster with video hardware that can output to tv. possibly a keyboard but it's not essential.
I just can't fault the trinity as it's a great all rounder.
Samsung OMNIA
Sales guy quoted me 16 gig on board ram...
642Mhz
I'll let you know if I keep it.
If I do anyone know the best place to flog a Trinity
Nope. it's going back.
OK so the omnia has no d-pad. I think i'll go with the Xperia.
