Hello,
I recently had my TyTN upgraded (sent it back for the screen alignment issue and asked for them to upgrade it). It now has version:
ROM version: 2.11.255.1
ROM date: 03/07/07
Radio version: 1.38.00.10
Protocol version: 32.71.7020.12h
ExtROM version: 2.11.255.102
I have some contacts which I have assigned a custom ringtone. This ringtone can be heard at the time of assignment. However, when that particular contact calls, the default ringtone is played back. This is despite the fact that the phone displays the name of the caller.
Any thoughts?
Jörg
Do you have anything installed like GSPlayer? If you have GSPlayer stealing file associations from Media Player then the ringtones won't work.
Interesting...
I have TCPMP installed, but .wav and .wma are played with the media player when opened from Explorer. I'll try uninstalling TCPMP just to be sure (come to think of it, I don't think I had it installed before to the upgrade).
I'll report if it is solved.
(any other things that might be the cause?)
Thanks!
Jorg
Uninstalling TCPMP didn't solve the issue. When I'm in the mood I'll do a hard reset and test if the problem already occurs on a clean installation. If it doesn't then another installed program is causing it.
Jorg
Dunno if anyone needs the info, but I have the impression HubDog (rss reader / podcast client) messes things up...
Jörg
I have the same issue. I thought it might be because o rooted it but would like to know your outcome. I have greader app that is almost like the one you have. It would suck if the rss readers are doing that. I will try uninstaling as well. Thanks for the idea.

A friend of mine found this patch, and i tried it and it works
i then tried it on the New Imate 1.12 rom and it did not work...
but it works fine on my T-mobile 1.01 rom.......
Just wondered if anyone else found this patch
Marc
What patch :?:
:?: The Magician plays mp3-ringtones by design. No patch required.
That's true, but no alarm tones. You can only use wavs for that. There are many applications which provide this feature, like WolfClock. I don't know if there's a patch available for this.
could you share a link plz

Yeah mine did until i installed betaplayer, after that it doesnt show mp3's when you try to change your ringtone. Uninstalling betaplayer resulted in no application being able to play mp3's. This suggests to me a file association problem but I have no idea how to solve it. Unlike 'regular' Windoze where you can assign associations fairly easily, mobile edition doesnt seem to be able to do this. Unless someone can come up with a better idea it looks like Im in for a long trawl through the registry
I did this with Winampaq on my XDA2. There is no way to re-associate the files with media player short of a hard reset. Microsoft really dodn't do much testing on this OS at all.
I found this but havent tried it.
been using it for ages, lets you set MP3 rintones from tap and hold menu, copies them...the whole file, to your windows\rings directory and sets as default ringtone.

You should take a look at Resco File Explorer which can do exactly this.

Thanks for the tip, I will have a look at that app.
My main gripe tho is that I prefer GSplayer or Betaplayer to Media Player but when I install either one I lose the ability to use MP3's for ringtones, it seems that the phone will only allow MP3 ringtones using the WM engine (or I have missed something)
after installing any 3rd party mp3 program you need to reassociate mp3 files with windows media player to get mp3 ring tones to work correctly.

Thanks people...The app works just fine...THIS is what I had been searching...
PLease help !
My music files were being set as ringtone with no problems before. However. I did some ext ROM cooking according to the good folks here this morning, and everything seems fine. I love it ! But I forgot to check the ringtone thing.
I have done some messing about with music player programs. ( I installed and uninstalled Pocket PLayer and WinampAQ.) Now i am using Pocket Music 4.02. But now I can't set any music file to be my ringtone. It copies itself to the windows\Rings folder, but it can't play the file. I tried to test it in the Setting\Personal\Phone but to no avail as well, always return to the Windows Default ringtone
Could you please tell me what might cause the problem. This is my first experience with a PDA, I got it 2 days ago . I got my original ExtRom backed up incase I might need some cab from that.
And could you tell me if there's away to associate the music file with WMP10 for PPC, because I can't find that function in WMP10 options. and if I don't have a 3rd party software, when I double clicked a Mp3 file, it says basically "files needed are missing"
My specs :
XDA Exec
ROM : 1.13.82 WWE
Programs intalled :
PocketMind Pocket Music
ValksoftSpace Reclaimer
Dinarsoft Memmaid
SOTI Pocket Controller
Total Commander
Thanks very much.
have a look in the registry under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3
should have a key called
Default
what does it say after that?
if I remember correctly, that is where the file associations are.
to open with WM by default, change the default (whatever) key to
default (MP3File)
and then reset
on mine, default is the only key there.
hopefully that will solve it.
Hello, I'm new poster in this forum, but always read it since I bought the XDA EXEC.
I've a problem. After the upgrade to the new i-mate ROM (1.30.72) and radio (1.09.00), my exec stopped the acceptance of mp3 ring tones. I choose an mp3 file, but it doesn't play it or accept it as new default ring tone.
Does someone had this problem? Do you know how to solve it? Thank you.

I had a similar problem but it wasn't the rom. I had installed iMusic player and it had overwritten Windows media player as the default app for mp3's. Appaently there is an issue with mp3 ring tones when windows media player is not the default handler for mp3. could this be your issue too?
Yes, you're right. I've forgotten that issue.
I've installed PocktMusic and now it's the default player. I've changed in the registry the .mp3 file to WMVFile and solved the problem. Thank you.
You're welcome !
I can't add mp3 files in my storage card to the media player library.
I get an error saying the storage card library is locked and no file can be added.
How can I unlock the library ?
I asssume you have already tried deleting the msmetadata folder and then re-creating the library?
Mike
In fact, I hadn't tried that before. Now tried and it worked
Thank you !
But why did it happen ???

I'm afraid it's a quite well known problem with the current version of the media player and doubtless will be sorted out in it's next revision. Meantime we're stuck with it and you'll likely have to do it again.
Mike
thank you !
Ok, like everyone else, I suffer from this disappearing library issue.
EVERY time I exit media player, it's gone. I have to go through the steps to recreate the library.
8525 running Cingular 1.34 rom and 1.21 radio.
My treo 750 has not lost the library yet... Is there anything to try that might save me from following these steps every time I want to play music (every time I drive my car)?
Or... Is there a better media player that might even read the same playlists?
Thx

Hi,
Everything was working fine, but now, for some reason, the media panel won't play any music, it ust seems to be stuck on paused. The panel is still responsive and I can view pictures and contacts etc, it's just that the 'play' button doesn't work
Anyone else had this problem, or know what's causing it?
Also slightly less importantly, my Storage Card doesn't show in WMP (works fine in File Explorer though) - what have I missed haha
did you try to soft reset?
i had that on my tytnII i couldnt accces sd i put the sd in the pc it saw it and then i put the sd back in the phone it worked. maybe you could givi it a try
Yup, done all the soft-resets and reinsertions of memory cards that I can be bothered with haha.
Really rather not have to hard reset, just got it set up etc, who know's what'll cause it to do it again!!
There is a thread here or over at xperia1.net that explains it, but this issue is only if you've installed the Youtube cab from Manilla (as it changes the way it plays stufff).
So, if you've installed the Manilla Youtube cab, there is a fix out there somewhere (you need to basically edit the registry), but don't ask me where Been a few weeks sience I searched for it.
Your problem with non playing video seems similar to the one I had, please read below.
Possible problems with Pubba panel instaler V2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Norti,
Iv just done a hard reset back to default on my stock rom, but when I install Pubba panel installer v2, media files no longer play in Sony Media player or Windows media player, The James Bond stock video and other music files do not play.
Iv tried to eliminate all other causes by doing hard resets and testing each program, Touch 3D is great, but the panel installer seems to corrupt the media files and or there file association.
It seems media files in system ram prior to installing panel installer are not recognised and are treated as being corrupted.
If you have a cooked rom or you deleted all your stock rom video early on then you may have not noticed this error.
Please have a look at the panel installer as the ability to listen to music or listen to the radio while browsing is a very useful function.
PS best reason yet to own an X1 - Top Gear on BBC iplayer, fantastic, its what the X1 was made for !
