Hello, I'm new poster in this forum, but always read it since I bought the XDA EXEC.
I've a problem. After the upgrade to the new i-mate ROM (1.30.72) and radio (1.09.00), my exec stopped the acceptance of mp3 ring tones. I choose an mp3 file, but it doesn't play it or accept it as new default ring tone.
Does someone had this problem? Do you know how to solve it? Thank you.

I had a similar problem but it wasn't the rom. I had installed iMusic player and it had overwritten Windows media player as the default app for mp3's. Appaently there is an issue with mp3 ring tones when windows media player is not the default handler for mp3. could this be your issue too?
Yes, you're right. I've forgotten that issue.
I've installed PocktMusic and now it's the default player. I've changed in the registry the .mp3 file to WMVFile and solved the problem. Thank you.
You're welcome !

Hi everyone,
After using the Siemen WM2003 ROM to upgrade my O2 XDA 1.
I was expecting to be able to use MIDI files as my ringtones.
But to my surprise, it didn't work! :x
I copied a few midi files to the "\Windows\Rings" directory, I can see that file from the ringtone option.
After I seleted it and click the play button, it just 1 short BEEP sound and that's it.
Anyone has this problem?
or anyone can help me with this please???
thanks all.
I have the same problem. I thought that WM2003 can't play MIDI files with many tracks (e: >6). I tried editing some files and make it with only 4 tracks but still no luck.
May someone post a good MIDI that works on his/her XDA to study it as an example.
Actually, XDA II running WM 2003 can play Midi files.
I've given the one I cannot play to my friend's XDA II and it worked there.
it must be something to do with the WM 2003 from Siemens...
anyone else have a clue? I am sure many guru here who can help us...
Yeah, I also find the same problem.

This problem isn't from the newest Rom's! It's just that the Xda1 plays 1 Chord "1 Instrument" by default. When you install the Program "Album" from IA Style you'll notice that the midi files are associated and they'll be playable very well, I just wish that someone makes changes in the driver which it will let us play midi files in the full instruments and set them as ringtones... I guess that needs a .dll files to be added to the ROM so hope we can make a progress.
But for whom they want to play Midis on XDA1 ,get the Old nokia ringtones the ".mid or from the .rtx or .txt " files ,convert it and play it you'll find it running perfectly like this one >>>>>>>>Dance Poly 1.mid
Yeah, that was my first notice when trying MMS Composer 1.6.9 ... maybe the driver will be installed in a newer WM2003 releases
great. the dance poly 1.mid worked in XDA I with WM2003 os.
there's another post here which has the midi cab file to be installed and that exactly what i did and now my xda I can play midi files... but, not all of them
and since im not a techie, i dont why it can play some and cannot play the others... can somebody enlighten us on this?
thanks a lot.

Dido,
The Poly 1.mid works fine without the MIDI56.sa.CAB file installed into your device bcz you got WM2003 and it's a 1 instrument Poly, but if you do what's written in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=46903#46903 all the midi files will work properly.
I did it and it's working like a charm with all the midi's instruments
Try this midi after you install the cab file into your device >>DJ_SAMY.MID<<
hi ramram,
hmmmm, we tried the DJ_SAMY midi file but it sounds quite distorted, i.e., when we play it on the PC (we use jetaudio) and listen to it on the PPC, the sound coming from the PPC is very different from the PC.
what gives? we installed the MIDI56.sa.CAB but the dj_samy is not quite good to listen byt the dancepoly is still nice.
thanks.

Hello Dido,
Man what do you expect from a PPC!! It doesn't have a speakers like the Pc thus computer midi instruments differs from our device. This Midi plug-in that what could output from sound and I'm so glad that we could hear polyphonic ringtones thanks for the updates they made in the Himalaya's.
I'll attach another ringtone for you hope you will like it.
Ps: While playing those ringtones my ppc don't sound distorted at all.
Another Midi ringtone
Try this as well I took it from the Nokia phone.
thanks guys.
we both tried rkelly and songette but for the latter we only heard beep beep
is there some properties for the midi files that would work for XDA I ?

Hi ppc users and enthusiasts, i have a question that nobody has posted i thing, i have bem looking around xda and i didn't managed to get an answer. My Qtek S110 Jam_12.1_PTB doesn't acept no wav, mp3 or wma files as alarm tone altough i can use them as ringtone or anything else, yes, i can find and select the sound in the alarm select menu but it always goes to the Ring -Default-
Thanks for the help in advance as i know you guys can solve my and other people problem.Sorry my bad english

Try some software that overtake the system default alarm handling and see if it works for you
Wav,Mp3 Wma in Alarms
Thanks, but actually i already instaled spb time which is the best for the simple task of alarming me to wake up. I really want to know why this stupid phone doesn't support mp3 and other formats in alarms, the audio codecs are the same to the whole system but why dont they work Rrrrrrr!
Does anyone wakes up with the alarm sound that it makes? or... as my self, wakes up with the vibration of the phone... i really don't get it...
Blame microsoft... just another thing i forgot to mention is that the screen should blink but it doesnt. why? i already hard reseted the phone, changed soft. version 1.11; 1.12.05; 1.12.10 WWW-PTB, nothing it just simply doesnt react. what i really wanted was a reg change to make it work, if the device uses a .dll to control the audio codecs it may be changed by reg and so we people dont have to give away another 10-20 bucks for a thing that should work from the begining. Help?
I'm probably plain stupid cause the alarm files are all wav & I can't think of any reason why the magician wouldn't accept them as an alarm tone. & surprise surprise it does actually work on my magician with 1.13 WWE rom. Tested with an own recording. MP3 didn't work with alarm, but does work on reminders, message reception etc. WMA not tested.
Cheers, M
Put that limitation down as something that would have improved with HTC Prophet
how do use mp3 as tones for messages? i tried moving mp3 to windows directory but i can find it in tones...
Hi nm8,
Does WindowsMediaPlayer play these mp3's? If not you have to get them in a format WMP can recognize, otherwise it won't work.
M
hi oltp
i just tried playing it with windows media player, and yes it cant be played. i originally ripped this from cd using windows media player from my desktop. its 192kbps. what are the settings to be used?

I have a T-Mobile MDA VARIO, I really wanted my Bluetooth headset adapter to work with my phone using A2DP etc.. It worked and the upgrade has improved the phone no end... except.. I can only use the windows default ring tone.
All the other ring tones (fantasy, jig etc.. ) are in the Windows directory, but saved as wma files rather than wav and they just wont play..
I have tried to convert the wma file and delete the originals, but the files are in the readonly ROM!!!
Has anyone else had this issue? Do you know how to resolve it?? HELP... thanks
you need the cab that makes this possible.
See the Wizard wiki on extended ROM's fro it.
In the T-Mobile explanation is the answer on which cab you need.
Thanks edsub.. tried installing the usa t-mobile and the NL cab, but still does not work...
UPDATE : WORKING!! Thanks edsub.. Needed to re-associate the wav and mp3 files with Windows Media player, all ok now... Maybe I did not need the cab file, all I needed to do is use RESCO Explorer to associate the music files with Media player rather than imusic, which it was previously set to
Hi,
I'm new of the forum.
I have a problem with my XDA IIi.
I configure the hand set with the bluetooth. The phone recognize the device and it connect with him.
When I make a call, I hear from the hands free just a noise.
Why?
Another question, how may I use the mp3 as ringtone??
XDA IIi
ROM 1.11.00 WWE
Radio 1.0.4
Protocol 1337.42
Ext Rom 1.11.171
What type of hands free you're using???
To set mp3 as ringtone, just copy that mp3 file to /Windows/Rings/ Folder. Then you can choose it from Sound & Notifications.
I have tried with NOKIA HDW-3 and with Jabra BT-1000
I have tried to put the mp3 file into the directory thet you have suggestedd me, it doesn't work. It switch to the previous one.
Thanks for your help
you need to patch registry a little. search this forum for mp3ringtones.cab and wmaringtones.cab
I have to patch the registry for which? for use mp3 as ringtone?
If yes may you say me how?
About the hands free, have you got some information??
Another question, how may I use the mp3 as ringtone??

u can use mp3 as a ringtone without any software, just put ur MP3 file into "my document- my ringtones".
or u can use mp3 as a sms sound. just put ur mp3 file on "windows". now u can use it.
Hello,
I recently had my TyTN upgraded (sent it back for the screen alignment issue and asked for them to upgrade it). It now has version:
ROM version: 2.11.255.1
ROM date: 03/07/07
Radio version: 1.38.00.10
Protocol version: 32.71.7020.12h
ExtROM version: 2.11.255.102
I have some contacts which I have assigned a custom ringtone. This ringtone can be heard at the time of assignment. However, when that particular contact calls, the default ringtone is played back. This is despite the fact that the phone displays the name of the caller.
Any thoughts?
Jörg
Do you have anything installed like GSPlayer? If you have GSPlayer stealing file associations from Media Player then the ringtones won't work.
Interesting...
I have TCPMP installed, but .wav and .wma are played with the media player when opened from Explorer. I'll try uninstalling TCPMP just to be sure (come to think of it, I don't think I had it installed before to the upgrade).
I'll report if it is solved.
(any other things that might be the cause?)
Thanks!
Jorg
Uninstalling TCPMP didn't solve the issue. When I'm in the mood I'll do a hard reset and test if the problem already occurs on a clean installation. If it doesn't then another installed program is causing it.
Jorg
Dunno if anyone needs the info, but I have the impression HubDog (rss reader / podcast client) messes things up...
Jörg
I have the same issue. I thought it might be because o rooted it but would like to know your outcome. I have greader app that is almost like the one you have. It would suck if the rss readers are doing that. I will try uninstaling as well. Thanks for the idea.
