Doe anyone know of a good source for APN names, and login info for networks around the world.
I wouldn't mind SMS service-centre numbers, radio bands used, exact radio frequencies used etc too, if I could get it.
I've cut-and-paseted some stuff from the web, but it's very incomplete.

I would like to find a complete set of MCC/MNC lists.
I have looked on wikipedia, and there is something there - which I have downloaded and sorted.
But my SIM card knows of networks not listed there :-(
Does anyone know of a better source for an up-to-date list?

Hi there
just a quick question really to see if anyone on here can help. I have a STD O2 data only SIM does it make any difference to speed and/or connectivity if we use different username and passwords?
I'm told to use mobile web and password but web/web seems to give me far better connection.
Is this just me!?
Any help is appreciated

Theoretically it shouldn't but...
An APN is the software "front-end" of an hardware physical equipment called a GGSN. The GGSN is the Gateway (that's what the first "G" stands for) between you (your carrier network) and the other networks (Internet to be simple). One GGSN contains a few APN but an APN is located on one and only one GGSN...
The GGSN acts like a kind of firewall (filter users or special traffics or the access to some websites) and sometimes shapes your web page to adapt it to your screen.
So for all these reasons, when you change your APN your web experience can drastically change (speed and aspect of internet pages eg.) On the other hand I'm not aware of different behaviour of the same APN with different credentials (username/password) but it's totally possible. To be really confirmed with different speedtest.net...
I use bypass instead of mobileweb and images are clearer in Opera, nearly Wifi clear.
So that answers the question : the same APN reacts differently with different accounts (and compress differently the pictures)...
Good to know...
Here in France, operators are not working it the same way as far as I know (I don't even put password in my APN config...)
I have updated to JVQ and all is fine with my I9000T with 850 band. The only issue i have is that i cannot send MMS, it stays there saying sending. I have checked APN settings and they seem fine. Does anyone else have an issue with this ?
Internet and SMS is all ok.
Recheck your APN settings and don't just trust the first source you find. If its anything like Optus you'll find there are multiple different APN settings listed around the internet, many outdated.
You are correct, i finally found APN settings that work. There are so many...
I have a problem here. I recently bought a new sim from a different provider, sadly the net settings cannot be saved in my Focus because the device requires that an ip address be added. The settings does not have an ip address, however, I know it works because I tried it in a Nokia E72.
Is there a work around to fix this problem?
sounds like you just need apn settings for your provider

I have the apn and everything else, its just that there is no ip address and this phone refuses to bring up the save option unless one is added.
What is the radio setting? it may be set differently from what it is supposed to be, look at that , also is this the regular mango update or is it a rom?
check out these numbers as well http://numberportabilitylookup.com/networks?s=
found this on another site for an android fone "All this mess is becaused of a "wrong input" in the field "MNC"... if you search a little in Wikipedia, you will know that MMC and MNC identifies carriers around the world. The thing is that MNC is only 2 numbers (example 03, for Movistar here in México)... but you HAVE TO enter it using 3 digits (example: 030).
This doesn't affect 3G functionality on the phone.
Try it, use 3 digits in both MMC and MNC... then save as usual, your APN name will show up on the list."
or "I discovered that if you power-down the N1, and remove the battery for a while (about 30 seconds when I tried it last night), then re-start the phone, the APN list re-populates.
This is a nuisance if this is going to happen often, although luckily it's only happened to me once thus far."
Hi, so Irecently started messing around with my APN settings and have been astonished at what a difference they can have. I've been searching here and google for the last couple days trying to find some info on the particular settings and I still have some questions, so I'm hoping some of you could help out. I found some info in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26862729 but it doesn't answer some of my questions.
1. Are the "APN type" settings APN specific? For instance, can you add the "hipri" or "dun" tag to any APN?
2: What exactly do the "Bearer" settings do? I see most APN settings leave it as unspecified, does setting it make a difference?
3: Do all APNs support IPv6, or just some? And does changing this have any noticable effect?
4: Are certain tags in the "APN type" settings necessary for certain features? For instance, is a mms tag necessary for sending mms's?
5: If there are multiple APNs set up on the phone, will the phone automatically choose a correct APN, or always just use the selected default? Like, if you have one set up for mms and another for LTE data (that does not support mms), will it fall back to the other? Or would you have to change it manually.
I guess any other information you guys have could be useful. I ask because after searching for a few days, I have found over 25 different settings people have suggested. I want to play around with the settings, do speed and signal benchmarking and then post it here. I found that there is very little benchmarking of different APNs here and think it could be useful. You guys have helped me out so much and I would really like to contribute too.
anyone?
stick with your carriers specific apn, you can experiment with different settings, but it will not yeild any better results than the factory apn setting for the device...
thanks you

AT&T has at least 3 APNs: wap.cingular, pta and phone. I have already began experimenting with the 3 and have seen big differences in both signal strength and mobile data speeds. As of now, it seems the "phone" APN works best. When it comes to the individual settings, I do not see much difference, but there may be some, I believe.
I really just want to learn more about it though as well.
Really the most important question I have is if there are multiple APNs on the phone, will it automatically use another (if the default doesn't work for whatever,) or will it only use the default?

If you asking if it auto switches, I have never seen it do that, the best setting I have seen is the pta, and it will switch to 3g if the coverage is not strong.
