i dropped my brothers htc athena x7500, now, after picking up all the pieces and spending many hours reassembling, it works fine, but is a mess, and buttons are missing. where can i get just a replacement casing? complete with buttons. already tried all the usual suspects...(ebay)
any one help please?
Search around here, someone posted about a replacement case recently. However, it was expensive and didnt have buttons.
I have searched for quite some time now but I can't find the links to the shop that sells the case (I do get dozens of links to leather cases, but it's not what I'm looking for). Anyone has the right lienk?
Thanks,
Silviu
EDIT: I think I found it, but it's not sold anymore.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346413

wow!!!!
Dude you paid 97 dollars for a piece of metal. man, my screen would need to be in different parts of the world before i could justify that!!!! were you not covered under warrantee? or maybe your very successful and loaded? in which case can i have some money?
My X7500 is so scratched and dented that it really looks like a piece of garbage... So yeah, I think it's worth replacing the housing. Unfortunately even the ebay auction failed: no unit left... I'm back to my quest for a new (black) housing!
Brando sells them now. I've just ordered one. Anyone know of a good dissasembly guide?

Could you please post the link to the replacement housing sold by Brando? I can't find it in their e-shop.
Hi,
Look here http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03131 It's the one that I ordered.
Regarding the replacement case, I found on ebay a dummmy X7500, used for display in stores etc. In fact it's just a housing with a fake screen and a piece of lead inside to make it heavier. I got it for 40 € instead the 75 €for the replacement case only....
Cool. I got notice from my post office that a package has arrived from hong kong, gonna go and see if it's that after my lecture.

Did it work ok for you to switch the housing?
I'll get the TORX screwdrivers only tomorrow, I'll try and let you know. But it does look promising, as the housing is the same, and I have detailed info about the disassembly in the service manual.

Yes please keep us informed as I have managed to get my hands on a similar case (ie shop demo unit).
Also let us know the sizes you use for the Torx drivers (I only have a T6) and any things you need to look out for.
oh yes. tmobile ARE helpfull
ok. i noticed how much money were all willing to spend on housing and i then had a sudden realisation. im tight. i dont wanna pay for something that is going to be destroyed again when the kids use my phone as a frisbee or coffee matt.
I called up tmobile. explained that the casing was scratch (of course i mentioned it was a design fault with the casing and magnets, not that i had repeatedly dropped it)........
and good old tmobile said "no problem, send you phone to us and we will repair/replace it. after removing the wm6 updates and a system reset i sent it off. 4 days later, a completley new phone. excellent service.
Hi guys,
I thought it would bw hard.
It was.
I managed to disassemble completely the dummy unit, and it wasn't easy. The instruction in the manual are correct, but not quite complete (there are a few times when you must guess some key points), and it doesn't always apply to dummy units
I managed to get a clean and mostly unscratched casing (it looks like new actually), but the buttons (internet explorer, OK, Windows) are torn.
Now I'm reluctant to open my X7500, I'm afraid I'll ruin the buttons and as I don't have any replacement, I would be left with holes instead of buttons. I saw that even the casing sold by Brando has no buttons provided.
So do it at your own risk... But for now I won't open mine, except if the case really gets badly beaten.

I got the windows, ok button and internet button in my brando housing. Plus the right side buttons.
Then you may try and keep us posted maybe.
The one good thing is, I found out that removing the magnets (as I never use the keyboard) is very easy: just unscrew the three screws holding the bottom plate and remove it carefully (there are a few hooks that must be pried apart). The three magnets are visible and easily removable from the bottom plate (they are glued).
Hi everyone, after 18mths my HTC Touch (Elf) touchscreen has stopped working! I did a soft reset and hard reset, but now in the hard reset it asks me to touch the screen to setup Windows Mobile, however I cannot do it as the screen does not work!
There is no cracks or even scratches as I use the screen protector. I have been reading about LCD's & Digitilizers, but cannot work out which one I need..
Can someone please help me. I want to buy a kit off eBay to repair it but not sure exactly what I need.
Any help will be great!
Do you guys think US$200 is a good price for a HTC Touch Duel with no scratches, as new ? I can buy one for this price, but have never used a dual, and would love my original htc touch to be fixed...
About mine:
- 18mths Old
- No scratches or damage
- Slight corrosion on the plastic where sim card etc goes, not internally but just on the mirror type plastic there is slight green corrosion but it can clean off easily.
- never been in water or anything like that!
Touch screen does not respond to touches anymore, this happened over about 2wks.. it started to not work now and again, then it switched off automatically a couple of times over that period... now it is not responding at all for about 10 days now!
I took to vodaphone and it is out of warranty, I am insured, but it is a load of bullcrap to get insurance, and even if you do you still need to pay a premium of between $150-$275 (AU$) so i might aswell either juszt pay to get it fixed or do it myself.
Cancelling Insurance on this phone ASAP, never getting insurance ever again, only for the first 12mths if phone is over $1000
insurance is lame, and only benefits if phone is lost or stolen.
cheers any1 that can assist me!
You need a digitizer, about $20 from eBay, easy to replace, just see Service Manual for HTC Touch. Better still if you'll get the entire front faceplate with digitizer already attached, simply because it makes your life a lot easier, all you'll need to do it connect the digitizer and assemble the unit.
thankx so much enigma1nz, i was thinking only the digitalizer was needed, but what is the diff between the lcd & digitalizer? I mean in functions etc.
thanku so much for ur time.
I will be ordering the replacement peices, do you think I should do myself or take to a repairer. I am tech savvy, I build PC's, replace RAM etc.. so it should be easy, yea?
cheers

LCD is the screen itself, it shows the information, digitizer is responsible for the touch function. It is relatively easy to replace, simply because the design of the device allows for direct connection with no soldering involved. There is a service manual with photos floating around somewhere, I think even on this forum. Just search for it.
Thanks Enigma1NZ, I actually got a pdf of the dissasemble guide for the htc touch, so should be perfect, I just ordered a digitizer off eBay for only AU$13.60 inc. delivery, so that is awesome!
I got a call from my insurance company today, they want $175 excess if the phone is 'approved' for insurance, plus they kill the imei number too, i told her not to worry and I'm cancelling insurance (already paid $180 all up).... damn rip off, maybe okay while in warranty, but otherwise I will not be making that mistake again!
I will keep ya'll updated, and will be videoing me pulling apart & replacing so I will upload it 4 others too.
P.S enigma, love ur photos posted in myspace.. nice work
I love Touch for the simplicity and straightforwardness of its build, I was surprised the housing was so easy and reasonably cheap to replace (I am thinking of getting mine in red...or purple...). The worst digitizer replacement has to be for 1-gen Iphone and LG Prada. Blasted capacitive screens are the way of the future though and are pleasure to use.
Thanks, i got you added. Let us know how you went. Insurance companies are a bloody rip-off artists playing on our insecurities. I deal with them often when it comes to repairs. Makes no sense to insure after a warranty period simply due to technology depreciaton - you end up paying more in excess than the device is worth at the time.
Yeah the phone looks fairly simple in its housing, I have played around with it a bit... I was actually seriously thinking about replacing my housing while I was in there to white, since I saw the Magic I love the whiteness! I would love a silver housing though, that is the ultimate but have only found white so far.
I will keep you'all updated here with photos 'n video with what I do change.
I was going to buy a prada actually, I think the screen and whole look is amazing, It was tempting but I am very satisfied I chose my touch over the Motorola Razr, Prada and Touch... Touch wins
Cheers again enigma1nz.
I heard LG screens lose sensitivity over time.
Hi, a friend of mine talked to me yesterday about his touch. It seems he has the same problem of the digitizer stoping to work.
Where can I find the service manual and do you know of a good place to buy the digitier?
Tanks!

There's a sticky topic at the top of this forum with several service manuals that you can use. As for buying the digitizer, ebay and dealextreme.com have them for cheap.

Hi... I need your help, I need to change my digitizer, so I want to know you ordered only digitizer or one already fixed on casing as Enigma told you ??
Pls let me know..Thanks
Get a Digitizer and fix em on.
So yea, I dropped my phone the other daymad and cracked the screen(). Now the phone still works fine, registers touch perfectly, no distortion of colors or anything. Leading me to believe that its just the outer glass part that needs replacing.
Anyone know how much that would be? Should i even bother, or just try selling it? Appreciate any and all help.
Check ebay for replacement parts. I've seen screens on there b4.
This would be what you are looking for if the digitizer can easily be removed from your cracked screen.
http://www.cellulardr.com/G1FaceplateBlk.htm
Not sure what prices are like on ebay, might be able to find cheaper elsewhere. Does give you a starting point though.
taking apart the g1 is a beeeech, so be careful with that
yeah, I second that. I have taken apart a few and the one that I was the most careful with I fubared a ribbon cable.
But yes, the digitizer is all you should need. My digitizer broke in three places but still worked great, no bleeding (cause it wasnt the lcd) and exactly what you are describing. USE THE MANUAL!
THanks for the help, and all the quick replies. Ill look into taking it apart and if it worth it. If not ill just try selling it off to someone who is more capable.
Sell on ebay, buy on craigslist
I had a water damaged G1 which I just sold on eBay for $130, then bought a fully functional G1 on Craigslist for $175. So basically I replaced my phone for $45. The phone wouldn't even turn on, but people out there are buying for parts. A good deal considering a digitizer will run you at least $65.
Well I decided that i'm not gonna bother with it. Way too much trouble, so if anyone wants to buy it send me a PM. Thanks again guys.
hey guys i dropped my phone and the screen ended up cracking but you could still see the display. after about a week or so you can no longer see the display at all. i noticed this when a call came in and i heard it ring but the screen was black. instead of having insurance replace it for $150, do i have a cheaper option? can i buy the parts say via ebay? i believe its a digitizer i need? thanks in advance.
You could try to fix it yourself but its pretty tricky. I tried replacing a screen one time and snipped one little wire by accident and it coated me the phone. Unless you really know what your doing it might be a good idea just to get the replacement. Good luck!

Go to these guys, they have anything and everything you'll ever need to repair or replace broken parts for phones and they are cheaper and faster than messing with EBAY Plus they have disassemble videos on every phone out there, Especially the Vibrant T-959 it takes the guess work out of it!! Get yourself, some small Phillips screwdrivers and a couple of the hardest guitar picks you can find and you'll be able to do anything with the vibrant you want to, unless your NOT COORDINATED with your hands! Note: One more thing, make sure you register your new account as a cell phone repair business, or they will ban your application!!
Here's the Link: http://www.globaldirectparts.com/ Good luck, and hope this helps!!
Are you with T-Mobile? If so it's worth a shot to call them, I think the out of warranty fee is $90, which would be cracked screen, water damage etc. They may or may not go for it but be nice and maybe they will.

Does anyone have experience with a cracked back panel and being on JOD? I am thinking about attempting to replace it but, it does have the IMEI listed. Does anyone know of a back case manufacturer that can add the IMEI as well? If all else fails I am pretty good with the guys at my local T-Mobile, I may just try to convince them to say it happened at trade in, or put like a D-Brand Skin on it and see if I can get it past them that way.
Thanks in advance

I don't have experience with JOD particularly, but would like to caution you against trying trickery that you mentioned. Even if you put a skin, they'll remove it to try and put this in the refurbished stock, see the crack and charge you for repairs. As for the IMEI, it really doesn't matter. If I'm not mistaken, it is just a sticker. When I got my phone back after a Samsung repair, it was removed anyways.
And finally, regarding your idea about getting local reps to lie that all was ok and stating it was damaged in transit, we do not promote such deception in xda. But it is up to you if you want to go ahead and try it out. As this is definitely a physical damage, better own up to it and pay for it. Since it is for the back panel, it'll probably be around $70 (directly from Samsung, front glass is $270). It might be a lot cheaper if repaired somewhere else.
Sincere apologies if I sound like a douche, but that's the best advice I can give you.

Thank you for the advice, the IMEI is apart of the back panel not just the sticker thing, but actually apart of the back. I've found back panels on Amazon for like $10, maybe I will call Samsung and see if the repaired versions have the IMEI.
This was very helpful.

Interesting. I wonder why mine doesn't have it anymore. TBH, I never noticed it before.
Just get it fixed, t-mobile(and almost any phone company I've deal with) will accept most of these phones as long as it doesnt show physical damage. I used to work for a phone repair shop in NYC and they(literally the guys at the T-Mo/Sprint/ATT stores) would send guys over to fix their phone before they would accept it as a trade in.
they include imei sticker int he box for reasons like this.
The imei is in the phone harness.
phone app *#06#
So when they do a trade in or any work on your phone. All they need to do is put in that code and it will being up th imei and they can move on.
But since it crack and you try the jump. They will either charge you the insurance claim price/ not give you the full amount for it. leaving you to pay the different before you get the new phone
Other then that it doesnt matter if the imei on the back is gone. the phone will be refub once it leaves your hands.
Broke mine too .. $60 at local repair shop

Very interesting, I have found backs on Amazon for like $10 bucks. Not sure if they're really that great or not but, I will give that a try. Worst case they turn me down and I am stuck with the phone for a couple years.

As long as they're glass and has the Samsung logo on it, it'll be fine. Make sure you also get some decent double sided adhesives for it, or get the specific adhesives cutout for the S7E that you can just slap on. I usually use redline tapes, they're slightly better than scor-tapes imo.
Just replace it. Amazon and eBay have it for $25-$30. All you need is a blow dryer.
