Hello all, anyone know what the max card support for the universals sd/mmc reader is
Thanks
Hi there,
If I'm not wrong, the manual says clearly that universal can read/write SD cards up to 2GB (unless someone with a better expertise than me knows something different).
In any case, this is not completely right, many people uses 4GB cards (including me), but it seems that not all the applications can cope with them, photo camera is one of them, if I'm not wrong, it will not save the photos to the SD unless it has 2GB or less free space.
Somewhere else in this forum, someone else said that he even uses a sam..ung 8GB SD card (very expensive).
Hope this helps

Yup i use a 8GB Samsung SD Card to watch DVD's. I dont have the time to encode DVD's to avi xvid format so i just copy them directly to the 8GB card and watch them on the tcpmp player. Quite fun i believe. I am waiting for the 32GB SD Card release by samsung and sandisk.
im using the 4gb 150x sd card from mobymemory (£47) no probs! nice and quick too noticed tomtom load quicker.
also im using the newest qtek rom and the camera stores to card no probs (dont have to have 2gb used as per some other complaints)
Im getting the 4gb Transcend sd card soon.. im currently using 2gb transcend but I soon realized it still isnt enough...the bigger, the better of course
nuclear, I don't understand... how is an 8GB SD card possible??? 4GB should be the absolute max.
Does the Universal support SDHC in one of the newer ROMs or something?

Well the device will always show you 2000MB regardless of the ROM. But you can put more than 2000MB on your 8GB card and it will read all the files and you can use them. Its just that at this part the memory monitor will show your SD card in the negative section or full. All SD Card are compatible in the HTC Universal. Enjoy.
I am waiting for the 32GB SD Card by Samsung and SanDisk
Brain... does... not... compute.
Nuclear, I need more info. What card did you get? What brand? Is it SD or SDHC? How did you format it?
What's different about the Universal that makes it possible?!?

Its a SD. Samsung 150X 8GB SD Card for $200 or so. I formatted it when i insert it into the Universal. Then i hooked it up to my PC. Transfered a DVD into it. And then back into the Universal and it played the DVD!!!
Hmmm I got one of these
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1239)-SDSDPH-1024-SanDisk_Ultra_II_SD_Plus_USB_1GB.aspx
MUCH faster transfers when you put it straight in your PC. I'm thinking of getting the new 2Gb version soon
nuclear
We all want to see your super card 8GB. Please will take photographs cards on background your universal or you have no photo?
In the same way report us address where we can book the card on 32 GB or you have no internet address?

My Universal screwed up my precious 4GB SanDisk Extreme III card and my 8GB Samsung. Literally it made my 8GB to 2GB and my 4GB to 2GB. I lost 6GB of space on my 8GB card into nothing. I am contacting tech support all day and this is what they posted. THE MAX IS 2GB!!!! >>>>>.<<<<< scary ;(
http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8016)-i-mate-JasJar.aspx
I was going through the SD specifications, and it looks like that SD 1.1 could support up to 64GB (!!!) using 32KB clusters.
Unfortunately, this won't ever happen, since SD 2.0 flags anything above 2GB as a memory error.
8GB should be possible because FAT32 defaults to 4KB clusters, which would match. Larger capacity would need reformating to match the larger SD clusters, but technically it should be possible, IMHO.
So probably some of the Samsung OEMs do work at 8GB using SD 1.1. But I'm seeing the new auctions say SD 2.0 compatible only.
Oh well, I can live with 4GB, but I hope Windows Mobile adds support for SDHC and MMCplus.
Nuclear, the 4GB Sandisk I believe is SDHC, so it will probably screw things up. The 8GB Samsung you could probably reformat on your PC.
If you have an SDHC and an SD USB reader, use the SD one, as the SDHC one might force you down to 2 GB.
Hey, it's just my guess from reading the specs.

My SanDisk 4GB Extreme III is a SDHC? I was sure i bought a SD only. It says SD on it....
As for my 8GB my PC detects it as only 2GB. Reformatted and again only 2GB. I know another way to fix it. Partition MagiC!!! I lost 6GB in partition space. And same with the other 4GB card. Once i partition it every 2GB it will make 3 cards in 1 . Well stay tuned and i will let you know how paritioning the space helped.
Hi,
I have just seen this:
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=101120
it is quite a good deal, and although i currently have only a half-full 2gb sd card, i think if i get one of these then i can consider using my m600 as a media player.
just wondering, does it have to say 'sdhc' for it to be sdhc?
thanks!
No, I would say most 4gb sd cards in use are not sdhc. It should say sdhc if it is sdhc.
+1 mine is not sdhc for example...
And it wouldn't work with the prophet if it was (no driver).
Hello folks, this is my first post.
I want to buy a SD card for my Kaiser (-> T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III to be exact).
Each time I call the service, i get a different answer. Sometimes the SDHC works with the Kaiser, sometimes only the SD does, sometimes the 8GB would work but sometimes the Kaiser can only take cards up to 4GB.
So my question to this awesome forum is:
1. Do 8GB SD cards work with a T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III?
2. Does a T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III take SD as well as SDHC cards?
Thanks in advance!
Hi. I see no reason why the a German version of MDA Vario III wouldn't accept an 8GB memory card. The TyTNII (registered name) is SDHC enabled and I have read on numerous websites that it has the ability to accept memory cards of up to 32GB.
I, like you, have the T Mobile MDA Vario III, only I live in the UK. I'd think that different brand names for practically the same device (TyTNII) would be fundamentally simmilar, and that if a TyTNII and UK T mobile MDA Vario III could accept an 8GB SDHC card, then it would be no different with the German MDA Vario III.
I am currently looking for the best 8GB memory card, with memory card reader too. Tell you what, get an 8GB memory card, and if it somehow doesn't work, just return it and explain that you had good reason to believe that it was compatible with your device
Mine is arriving from MemoryBits.co.uk very soon hopefully. £43.62 (+p&p) with USB card reader.
I'll let you know if it works!
ok! thanks both of you a lot! ill probably buy one and then return if it doesn't work, just as one of you proposed (the number guy )
(btw, thanks for the awesome fast response)
one problem is, you know, its the 20 december and id like to have it on the 24th for obvious reasons, so i think i cant afford waiting until you get yours, but still AWESOME thanks, foaf!!!
Boy are we in the same boat I received my sdhc 8gb just in time for Xmas but the Tytn 2 is still under the tree in its box :/
Sandisk provides the tiniest usb reader ever! I had trouble removing the micro card without breaking a nail
I also noticed that the card was formatted in fat32. So here comes a noob question: I assume there's no ntfs in winmobile?

adata has the smallest, thinest and at present, the fastest micro sd card reader, also any micro sd upto 2gb is set to format at fat 16 and fat 32 from the window os, for 4gb and over Fat 32.

Memory bits is one of the options I'm considering.
Ive also been considering the following an 8GB memory card-
BUNDLE Sandisk 8GB Micro SD (SDHC) memory card with Sandisk USB reader- £50.99 (shipping is free) moby memory is highly recommended for efficiency from what I've seen on other forums
http://www.mobymemory.com/phone-memory/T-Mobile/MDA-Vario-III-memory-cards.asp
and
A-DATA 8GB Turbo Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Class 6 Memory Card - Retail Package (Free Ground Shipping - $57.99
http://www.supermediastore.com/a-data-turbo-sdhc-8gb-class-6-memory-card.html
I'm not sure however if this is microsd or minisd. It doesn't seem very clear
Not micro or mini

Thanks. Its misleading for it have SDHC in its title. How do you knows its a standard SD card?
No it's not, as SDHC is the newer format required to go above 4GB and it's on available on MicroSD, MiniSD, and SD Cards.

This one works with the TyTN II:

I've been using it for 2 weeks. It works quite well (been able to load up to 6.5GB of data on the card ).

I just ordered a 8GB card - can't wait to get it
Do you guys use the Cardreader or go through the USB Active Sync?
It seems taking the micro SD card out all the time would break the little plastic bit covering it :-(
you don't have to take the card out for just normal use, but if your going to be loading a lot of music or a couple movies at one time you might want to take it out of the phone and use the card reader cause it is much faseter.
Yea, I just ordered the 8 GB Sandisk from ebay. Should be here any day now. I can't wait!!!
Although in a few months when there's a 16 GB card out, we'll all be sad.
Damn technology.
I got an 8GB Sandisk for Christmas and it came with a SanDisk card reader. Looks like a little USB jump drive and you just slide the MicroSD in it.
I had to use it to format the old 2GB MicroSD I was using as when my daughter tried to put it into here Blackberry Curve the Blackberry objected profusely. LOL
Funny thing is all I did was throw the USB adapter in a Vista box and it recommended fat32. I wonder what format was on it when it was in my Tilt?
If it was Fat32 why the hell did it need formating?
I want to use a 8GB microsd SDHC card but the card is not recognised. If I insert a 2GB microsd card it is working. What can I do to use the a 8GB SDHC card?
Thank you in advance 4 help.
i can't understand why your card don't work. I have a 8GB SDHC too. ANd this work perfectly for me.
I tried a Kingston and a Sandisk micro sdhc card - both cards are not working within the HTC Touch 3G.
Both cards are formatted to FAT32. The 2GB card which is working is no sdhc and is formatted to FAT.
ruclip: Which card are you using and what format?
Thank you.
I have this Sandisk and its work. Fat32
I have a Kingston 8Go SDHC and it works perfect.
Take a Hard-Reset. It could help you
Check what class of Micro SDHC you have on hand.
I think high speed SDHC might not work
Mine is SDHC 4 GB class 2, work very well.
I try both of them... they are working
16GB SanDisk microSDHC Card
8192MB SanDisk microSDHC Ultra
almost the same problem :
4GB kingston works
8GB sandisk don't work (both cards class 4)
i can't understand: if i try the 8GB card while the phone is on it works!
if i switch on the phone the 8 GB card won't recognized
I have SanDisk 8GB SDHC class 4
it work perfect
My 8GB Sandisk is working fine, just using the default formatting the card came with, whatever that is.
next try
8GB Kingston class4 .... it works
now i can sell a cheap sandisk 8GB
I have Kingston 8Gb HCmc ... it works, but some time HTC 3G not see this card...if restart work agein
I have SanDisk 8GB SDHC class 2
and it work perfect also
I have two cards: 8MB SanDisk SDHC class 2, and 4MB SanDisk SDHC Ultra class 6. The 4MB version works perfectly, while the 8MB version doesn't work at all. So I'd suggest to try another card...
I have a Sandisk 16 Gb SDHC card and work without problems. Lots of space to play...
I have a SanDisk 4GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC SD2.0 Class 6 and works perfect on FAT32
What is highest class suppor ?
Unfortunately i'm feeling the same luck of some of you guys... I bought one 8Gb class 4 Dane-Elec micro sd card, and i just couldn't get it recognized by my htc, so i returned it to the shop and got one Sandisk Class 2. When i got home, i plugged it in my htc, and it recognized it, but after i plugged the htc to the pc and transferred some stuff to the card, the htc never recognized it anymore. I'm felling a little unlucky... I think this could derive from the rom version... Mine is 1.40.410.2 (21259). Could you post your rom's info please? Specially the guys that got the 8gb cards running with no problem.
Thanks

by the way, is your 'micro' sd card comes with sd card adapter? maybe u can test with card reader to confirm whether it is your card problem or your jade got problem!
Advanced apologies for the newbie question...
HTC HD2 phone
upgraded yesterday to 3.14rom
looking for bigger than 2gb class2 MicroSD card for android OS
Almost bought Micro SDHC 8g class 6 card but checked logo inside phone by the SD card and it displays Micro SD. Seller of SDHC suggests compatible devices will show the SDHC logo.
So.. I called HTC support UK and they said it only supports Micro SD - although I think he just ready the webpage I was looking at rather than expressing knowledge through personal experience.
SDHC cards obviously have bigger capacity and seem to be more available with higher classes. looking at amazon/play.com/etc
On here (great site btw) people seem to be talking of SDHC cards in HD2's with no problems.
So for an HD2 phone running Android off the card, which is it, SD, SDHC or both?
Recommendations welcome

Well I think you are little bit confused so let me clear this up. The SDCard that is used on our device are called microSD (2GB) and microSDHC (8GB,16GB,32GB) as HC means High Capacity. Now don't confuse it with SDHC which is another standard of its own and its bigger as it will not fit in the mSD slot. Now that being said don't worry about the logo as we are using SD2.0 it is capable of accepting 32GB cards.
Forget amazon and ebay if you don't understand how to thoroughly verify it as you might get fake card which is hexed as it will read curtain quota but actually is much less. Go visit NewEgg and buy it from them as they do have cheap card with decent price and if something goes wrong you can RMA it.
Now the last part is the quality of the card which will depend on the wear level and life expectancy of it. Far as the class goes all it means it at the worst condition it has to meet that requirement. Now that does not mean class 2 can't won't be getting class 4 speed. Go with Kingston or SanDisk as its good for general consumer like you. I myself had Kingston 32GB Class 4 on HD2 which I won't recommend as that is another thread by itself
absolutely at least sdhc better extreme
try this http://www.sdcard.org/, will help you more understanding....
