I have the adapter - which plugs into the bottom of the phone providing a phone plug - that can be inserted into a phone/fax.
Has anyone got this to work? Is there something special I must do to use it as a Fax? I searched the forums - and saw nothing about this.
regards.
D
Sending and receiving faxes was possible with WM2003/WM2003SE but Microsoft, with their infinite wisdom, decided that this was not required in WM5.
If you have a special adapter then it requires its own driver and software.
Here´s one application
Although the description doesn´t state that is compatible with WM5 you could give it a try....

Fax
It seems you could fax with the software above using Att/Cingular's CSD service which I've heard isn't offered anymore. I've tried phonetools on my 8525 and 8125 devices and have had nothing but problems with the software.
An alternative to send faxes to and from email in which you can send attached files to be faxed to your recipient is Myfax at http://www.myfax.com
The supported files to be sent as attachments may be pdf, doc, xls, and more... I am currently testing this product on their 30 day trial offer. Their packages are pretty cheap and no extra charge for getting a toll free number.
Cortado.com is offering a similar product at http://www.cortado.com/index.php?s=23&lc=61&p=13, which requires the installation of the Content Beamer app on your device to send faxes wirelessly using your data connection. I am trying to test this service but have had problems with it, they appear to have some server side issues as I cannot access my account info on their site, and cannot send or receive faxes.
I'd go for Myfax, I have been pleased with the service so far and no extra software needed on the device to take up space.
See the description at the developer's web site. It doesn't list WM5 as a supported platform so the software probably depends on the OS to provide the support for sending and receiving faxes, and this is missing in WM5.

here are two files to configure blackberry for microsoft exchange and lotus notes including pdf file with instructions
tried to set this up before and drew a blank big time entered the info as it requested pin and imei but it kept saying i was a registerd user ,spoke to a decent bloke at 02 got to speak to him 2mora see if blackberry can reset my account even thou ive never used it strange anyone manage to get an account set up at www.o2email.co.uk .....
Pen6uin, where did you find the PIN to enable registration.?
The Pin
Can be found once you open up the blackberry software and go to settings, make surfe you click 'enable' and 'start', it will then be below the IMEI. I must add that O2 told me quite emphatically that this service will not be available until Jan. 2005.
blackberry service
For what its worth; I called O2 this morning as was told the Blackberry service was due to be available from 1 Nov, but there is a small delay.
The lady I spoke to went away and checked with the "data team" and told me it should be available in the next couple of weeks....
(Surprisingly; she was aware that the new rom release for XDA II included blackberry software; usually the call centre staff seem to be the last to know such things)
Was playing around with the Blackberry software installed the in 1.72 ROM but don't think i can use it as i'm not subscribed with O2 UK
What about Wallaby ?
Any hint whether this BlackBarre application can be installed in anyway on an XDA 1 ?
I lifted the HTC_PocketPC_1.2.4.19_O2_England.cab
from 1.72.181 extended rom from hobbit http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12526&highlight=blackberry
and tried to install in on a Qtek9090 (xdaIII, pda2k)
Everthing installs OK but when I am to connect to the device from the PC it claims that the "Services are not correctly configured"
I have checked for configuration files and settings in the registry but at a quick glance it seems that the configuration is hardcoded in some dll.
I have BlackBerry Enterprise in Sweden (Vodafone as carrier)
I wont give up yet but if anyone else succeds please write a few lines!
Best regards!
ok after a conversation with a rather upto date call center bod he has told me to call customer services and (get this he called me back lol ) they need to activate blackberry on my account and then try again apparently he said most off the setup is to be done on the handset so he will keep an eye on my account and then call me again (i feel honoured )when i have it activated to tell me the set up.what a nice man

Let us know when he gets back to you.
Have you got the logon to the site yet?
Did you have to ask for APN 57 (blackberry.net) from CS?
ok my quest continues ......
after speaking to cs this morning they put me onto data support who again are very knoledgable think there has been some training going on at 02 ,anyways he checks my account again and the usuall 'O' let me see if i can do it from here still no joy,he calls cs and does mention apn bydandie
he then transfers me to cs to give security details for the gzillianth time lol to activate it and says it should be activated within the next 24 hrs ...... so we shall see i will give an update asap
my surgestion is to mention the apn switch on for blackberry when calling cs to avoid the data support call .
Im getting the same issue about IMEI already being defined, and requested to log in with existing userid (which I havent set up).
Id also like to use my exisiting work VODAFONE SIM, which is GPRS enabled to our corporate BES (but Blackberry service removed) - will this work? (XDA is unlocked).
Finally anyone know if there's a true Vodafone/QTEK 2020 ROM upgrade - we've got these as work as well.
Blackberry Working!!!
Ignore my last posts - Ive now successfully got the XDA working on our corporate BES.
Was really a case of just following the instructions in the docs above, ensuring Blackberry enabled account (couresty Voda) being used.
No sweat.
Probably still some things to sort out for web based service though.

Hi. Great news!!! What is the actual cab file putting the BB functionality on the device? I would like to avoid installing the whole new ROM if at all possible. Has anyone tried installing just the BB? Thanks
Today I had time to test the BlackBerry client (look at my post above) HTC_PocketPC_1.2.4.19_O2_England.cab on a Qtek 2020.
And I got it working without any trouble
However, installed it on a 1.66 device and after a while the Bb client disconnected from gprs and I had to connect it again.
I connected it against a Blackberry enterprise server and, could successfully send & recieve mails and make address lookup to the GAL.
It also recieved the IT policy but I dont know what policy settings it applied
When I tried the same package on my Qtek 9090 it was very sluggish and never connected, so the client abviously works very close with the radio stack!? If anyone has better results than me please let me know
Best regards
Thanks for the guidance. Got the cab. Now, here's the golden question. What does BB enabled account mean? If I have GRPS connectivity is that not enough? I am guessing in order to control pricing packages there may be certain ports used by BB that the carrier blocks and then when you pay the fees for BB enabled account they simply enable them. Is this the case? Thanks for your clarification.

Does this cab file install other applications other than the BB client? Coz I dont want to install any other app except the BB client on my XDAII since its an Asian ROM 1.66.
I worked my way through the guide doc for Exchange all the way up to :
6. Tap the Synchronization tab.
7. Select the Enable Wireless Synchronization check box.
This checkbox is grayed out on my device. Were you able to select this checkbox? Thanks

Can someone tell me if they have been able to configure the XDA II Blackberry to work with TMO in the US? Is this even possible...
No I dont think so yet. Uless you can connect to the UK blackberry enterprise server. You might want to go to their website find that link and set it up there. It might work anywhere your phone is (i.e. if you are a business travel) The US Blackberry webclient is set up right now only for Blackberry decvices right now i belive. Also the current server set up does not alllow picture transfer. Limmited file trypes. only word, excel, powerpoint i belive. Blackberry has always been weak in the attachment department. I think this is the reson you dont really see it on the handheld side yet. Im not sure what O2 UK has cooked up or if they are running the newest implimwntation of the Blackberry enterprise server. But where ever you are to get a @o2.blackberry.com or @tmo.blackberry.com address and store and forward someone has to have the BB server, and have it configured to support the device type you have.
In the mean time some interesting things.
1. the Webclient service ONLY pushes mail to your device every 15 minutes. So nothing more special then the PPC can do already. You can set your device to poll for new messages every 15 minutes. (I think in the end the BB webclient implimentation is going to be a let down, nothing new, nothing special, just something, more to sell you.)
2. If you are a member of ClubImate sign up for clubmail. You'll get access to an echange server that can be set up on the device side to get your mail as it arrives. Basicly the same thing as BB except its sync'd not just dumped onto your device for safe keeping like BB.
Just an FYI.
Unfortunatly the most stable solution I have used so far is the HP iPAQ 6315 mail trigger system. Seems to work the most reliably over all the others. The big downer is it costs SMS charges everytime you get an email, is near impossible to port to a non-iPAQ6315,
but works flawlessly.
Yes you can if your SIM is blackberry enabled. ie. If you currently have a corp blackberry device, you can take the SIM out and pop in into a XDA II with blackberry connect installed. I'm receiving Corp and bwc e-mails on my XDAII updated with the latest O2 firmware xx.181. You need to download the balckberry configuration software from O2 or search the forum as some kind soul uploaded the software here. For corp e-mail, you need to have connection to exchange server and chnage the PIN number of the device since it is based on your IMEI.
Good luck!
David
Thanks David.
I have 1.7xx.181 with Blackberry Software installed. I have a Blackberry SIM.
How do I get the PIN Changed?
Finally got it working...
The only problem I have is that the outgoing mail... It goes through the device hits my Corporate Lotus Notes but doesnt reach the recipient..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=68068#68068
This is the thread with bbconfig files for lotus notes and exchange. Check to see if you have the service books on your XDA II. Did you have blackberry functionality via notes before?
May be your IT poeple hard coded the blackberry PIN to your account
Managed to get BlackBerry functionality running on my XDA2. I call it now XDA2Berry...
Quick questions I am hoping someone can help with :
--------
Regular BlackBerry synchronizes calendar & contacts to the local device. I do not think this is happning on the XDA. Any ideas on if it is possible and how to activate it?
When a message is received I hear a short beep. I tried changing the setting for Sound Event called "Inbox : New EMail Message" and add Vibration to the alert but I see that this makes no difference. Seems like BlackBerry New Message is a different event altogether that is not listed in the Sounds applet. Any ideas on changing the alert tone & activating vibrate alert?
Last but not least, I understand on a real BB device you get to surf the net under the BB GRPS plan. In my case this would give me unlimited local usage. However on the XDA I am unable to use the Blanberry,NET APN to connect for regular web surfing. I am still defaulting to my carriers regular GPRN APN for Internet connectivity. Any idea if it is possible to use the Blackberry.Net for PIE access?
Thanks & Best Regards

Not currenttly possible. Tasks, events and contacts ability will apparently be there for XDA when BES 4 is released

Same for me I think it's not currently possible for that - I did ask.
Thanks for your kind reply. Any idea when BES4 is coming out? Regards
An O2 account manager told me that they expect to release the new ROM with MSFP and presumably A2DP / AKU2 today, no sign on the my-xda.com site yet though.
Tum te tum
Still no sign. Did this 'account manager' say this was definitely going in yesterday or around now?
DBo.
He said it was going to turn up yesterday, but he was obviously wrong. Keep watching the skies...

can someone upload file to ftp?
I've just been to http://www.my-xda.com/xdaminis_soft3.html and the ROM isn't there - the launch ROM is the only one showing...?
Once you've entered the IMEI code it directs you to here
http://www.my-xda.com/downloads/Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101.exe
But gives a file not found. Guess they're still updating the web pages.
can you give me imei for a mini s device, i will upload asap
Okay, I see they've not updated the page I clicked above, but if you go to the main page the links are there.
The 50Mb EXE file downloads as 4K though, so somebody clearly jumped the gun when updating the page.
I can only see the file : Launch ROM v 1.5.4.102 (49.0 MB) ??????
UPDATE : Downloading it now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
me too - the rom links are now live
Let us know how you get on.
I'll try it in the morning.
In Germany we have the problem, that o2 have never released a rom since some for the XDA I and II. No one for the III / Mini / Mini S. And i think this Rom won't be available in germany too.
O2 has a very bad update politic.
Contacted O2 with regards to Costs for using push email, and they inform me that its only the amount of GPRS data you use (Personal user not business).
But they include 1Mb free with every tariff and anything additional is £3 per Mb.
Is this the correct information ? Sometimes customer services do give out wrong information.
can someone post the direct link to the update as when i put in my imei number and phone number, the site just keeps resetting back to the start. i ported my number from orange so don't know if they recognise it as a o2 number.
http://xda.o2.co.uk/downloads/Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101.exe
Is this rom that different to Qtek as I can see the radio etc is the same its just the extended rom that is newer, and that is prob just full of O2 crap that no-one needs.
But if I'm wrong let me know.
As everyone with a Wizard wants the best for their little pet!!!

Does anyone already have a solution? This is the only, but big drawback that I have with my Qtek 9000.

Does that allow you to receive faxes to your device?
It doesn't work
Hi,
I tried that software, but it's only to view fax files, it does not allow to send or receive faxes.
i'll keep looking for a working alternative.
Thanks,

Hi
I found this one on a Yahoo Group:
http://www.samtechnc.com/eng/introduction/mfax_intro.htm
It should work on my Qtek 9000, but i was not able to try, because i don't have enough skills for that.
Maybe someone here can try and post their experiences
Mfax is for PocketPC 2003. I asked them when they may make it available for WM5 and got the following reply;
"Right now we do not know if and when we will be able to support Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phones with our software.
The problem is that the modem i.e. network manufacturer (Qualcomm with their CDMA network) is not supporting fax class 1 or 2 in their system. Therefore we are not able to support the WM 5.0 Pocket PC Phones (or the CDMA based WM 2003 Pocket PC Phones). Furthermore HTC is - due to the lack of support from Qualcomm - not able to support us either.
So we are stuck in the middle. As long as Qualcomm doesn't set a higher
priority to the fax class support within their network (modem) we can do
nothing about this issue.
As soon as they would change this issue we would immediately be able to
support WM 5.0 Pocket PC Phones as well as CDMA phones using their network.
Frankly, I do not think that this issue will be solved soon. Faxing is still
seen as not important by the big companies (which I certainly do not agree, but we do not have a lobby or a direct contact person at Qualcomm, who has the power to change this)."
Maybe we should start lobbying Qualcomm.
We are MFaxCE's developer
We are the developer of MFaxCE. Actually, we have already ported our MFaxCE to WM5.0 successfully, but we found that HTC have changed a lot or haven't open the port for fax on WM5.0 device, we still fail to send/receive fax on WM5.0 right now.
However we are working with some manufacturer who is willing to modify their driver to make our MFaxCE capable of fax on their WM5.0 device. And we are also looking forward that HTC can do some modification or disclose some information to us, so that we can make MFaxCE compatiable with all the HTC WM5 device.
We will keep you posted about any news in the future!

any news ?
I'm looking for fax software for my Tytn that will allow me to send and receive faxes directly on the device.
I looked at Phonetools 5.0 but the trail version doesn't work. (It doesn't say that is is for WM5: only 2002, 2003 and 2003SE)
Possibly a stupid question, but does tytn have a built in fax modem? I know my previous phone didn't, which meant my fax software on my previous pda (via bluetooth to the phone) was useless. I used KSE Trufax, which I always liked. These days I use the fax to email gateway provided by my isp (redirect to your mobile email address and you're at least sorted for incoming fax).
I assumed that since it has a data modem, it would have a fax modem as well. I checked the specs, and I was correct. Didn't check it upfront
I will look google for your suggestion. I do have a fax-mail number set up, and I could forward it to my email address on my phone.
This is a very common question I've answered several times. Unfortunately, you can only use online fax services as no local fax apps run under WM5 because of HTC's disabling the fax ports that were still open and available in pre-WM5 devices. Some of them even work on the Pocket PC; I recommend for example http://www.efax.com/
until someone finds a way to receive the faxes directly on the device like you can on the nokia communicator(s), I guess the next best thing is to install a email to fax/sms gateway to my MS exchange server.
I allready had the sms gateway installed since it was free if I didn't use the fax gateway from GFI faxmaker, so I could remote activate pull email using WM2003/WM2005 without the real push functions.
If someone has a better suggestion how I can send the fax directly from my device, let me know!!!
