well I did a search and didn't find out exactly what I wanted so I'll ask it. I think I know the answer but wanted to make sure.
I have have the $5.99 t-mobileweb plan on my MDA using the proxy. After the May 9th patch, obviously only basic ports are allowed now. I can still use the OZ IM that came on the MDA but the MSN Messenger will not connect. I assume this is because it uses full data (as opposed to SMS with OZ) and it uses a non standard port. Is there any way around this without upgrading my plan? Is there possibly another MSN or IM application that uses SMS only or that the ports can be changed on how they connect?
You're doing good if you can even get anything to connect. I cant even get to the t-zones. ie just says opening and then it sticks there after I click the t-zone link. Eventually it comes up with a pop up box that says that it lost the connection, to try again later.
Nevermind, fixed that using the proxy settings. I don't know what to tell you about your MSN messenger though. You'd think they would still allow that connection. You might try IM+ it has msn built in and has a free trial.

I phoned O2 up the other day and asked them to enable WAP/GPRS on my phone which they did and asked them for all the settings to connect to websites and such, which they did and it all worked great apart from 2 programs what i wanted to use on my xda2 wont connect
First i tried MSN and that didnt work so i did a search on google and found out that a patch was needed from microsoft. I downloaded, installed and it still didnt work. Then i tried Pocket IRC (not made by microsoft so i thought it mite work) but it didnt, so i thought i would come on here and pester you lot and see if you knew if this was a common problem or if its something that i'v done...
thanks in advance,
Skillz
thats because the above programs use ports, you only get port 80 off o2.. for the internet. Theres no way to make it work
well whats the point in having the program there if we can use it
isnt there a hack of some sort that will allow me to use more ports than 80?
You can use MSN, PIRC etc with the XDA II, but it wont work over the WAP network. You have to use the MobileWeb APN, which should already be configured by the O2 Active system as the Internet Connection (as opposed to WAP, which is designated the "work" connection), but you need to make sure that the APN is enabled on your SIM card- another call to customer services!
You could also try Agile Messenger or even ChatToGo which supports all the messaging systems, but has a small subscription charge.
what's the best Messenger app?
I've tried the following.
- WebMessenger: sucks cause you have to login to there server and rely on them to connect to AIM, YMSG, Etc
- Agile Messenger: font is way to small to read and use.
- AOL's AIM Pocket Pc: old app for 2003, works nicely but boots off other desktop connection. It needs to be updated.
- OZ IM: Doesn't work unless you have T-zone
any others i can try?
AgileMessenger is the best. IF you find that font too small, change your glasses.
i use verichat by pdaapps.com. I like that one alot. have tried most of the others, and think this one is the best.

I personally use Verichat...but quite honestly, I'm thinking about switiching back to the good ol Hiptop for reliability reasons (geez..did I just say "hiptop" and "reliability" in the same sentence without a negative precursor?).
If you could email me AIM PPC 2003, I'll email you back a cookie . Seriously, I'll hook ya up with something if it will work for me. I dl'd AIM off the UK site, and there was no bottom bar...which meant I could be online, but not go away, etc. Highly disappointing.
how can i make it so i can use agile over EDGE?.. im only able to make it work over WiFi.
the new agile beta is great, I use it on edge!

Can you pls provide more details... do you have Full Internet plan with T-Mo? or are u using T-MobileWeb ($5.99) plan?
I have T-MobileWeb and near Detroit area, Agile does not work over GPRS/EDGE (I get EDGE here). Only works over WiFi
yeah i only have the 5.99 tmobile web plan. and can not get that to work using EDGE. is that why?
Will any IM program (AIM) work with tzones and the tmobile proxy? I used agile on my old nokia 3360 and it would connect. Not the case with the MDA. I have tried a bunch with no luck. Thanks
yeah, nothing really works with tzones, proxy and all. gotta get the full-blown internet plans to get any messenger program working other then the built-in client(which may or may not use texts)
I know the wizard comes with MSN, but the usage comes off of your MediaNet (using cingular) amount. Is there a MSN application that runs like the AIM application; runs off text messages?
Also I heard that ATT now provides an IM client. I can't seem to find a link to download it.
search this this forum for windows live messenger for mobiles ..install it ..hope that will work on cingular. it uses GRPS/data transfer.
Yeah, I know it'll work, though I don't have a data plan at the moment.
I have AIM, which uses data to connect (if using gprs) but the sent and recieved go against my text messages.
hello,
i was wondering if there are any IM free apps for tmo wing, the oz messenger is horrible i think, its very slow, i get like 10 minutes delays between my messages. I was wondering if there are any AIM programs out there that use only sms? with out going online if thats possible , i dont rle know much about phones and stuff, or maybe a different program thats maybe faster or somehow better then the OZ messenger. thx in advance

You will love it.
My favorite IM program is Palringo. http://www.palringo.com
It connects to everything. It doesn't use up that much memory. It plays nicely if you want it to run all the time. You have to sign up with them, but I've gotten 0 emails from them and they work on the concept of freeware. Check it out.
i'm trying palringo, it seems like it will be nice, but it will not let me sign on to AIM. it says that i have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. but i have never even signed on. every time i click on AIM then change my status to online it says logging in then that i've been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. any suggestions?
keep trying.. after 3 or 4 attempts, it should connect
palringo requires you to have a browser connection to be online.
sooo
does the free aim program on the wing run from the wifi network... or does it charge u on the edge network?? because i was using webmessenger on the wifi i think and wasnt sure if it was actually usuing it on the edge network... and i really dont wanna be charged for the edge network so can i jus use wifi whenever i wanna use aol instant messenger with a free program downloaded to my wing.. ?
u dnt get charge for edge unless you u have a data plan. dnt listen to tmobile. their internet is not like other networks pay-for-use instead it get a data plan or get dnt get sh!t. i recommend getting tzones 5.99 dnt worry wat tmobile say about it (than i help you set it up so u can use it with the best software like im+ & aim 2.0 "offical aol software") pm me
i posted this but someone took it down what i said before is the OZ im suite that comes with the tmobile wing you can find it in the .cabs for wing thread i think just reinstall that .cab i use it for aim alone. it also offers icq and yahoo but i prefer to just use the text version of yahoo... All over a gprs connection which means no added charges ( if you have unlimited texts that is )
