How to burn "Eye on thief" into the ROM - P3600 General

Hi all,
I would like to burn "Eye on thief" into the ROM.
http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm
Any easy tip ?
Thx.

Please can someone help?
I'm interested too...

Good idea
That looks pretty cool anyone know if it will reset to default ie Clear Storage if it gets stolen and I send it a text

You can hard reset remotely and you can delete all sms and contacts remotely, but I don't know if this deletes everything on external storage, I think it doesn't and anyway I'm not gonna try it hehe!
It should be very useful to know how to install the app in rom and make it persistently working also after hard reset, please someone?
Right yesterday after writing here I were able to copy app's files in extrom thanks to olipro's unlocker, set the app's autorun and locked/hide extrom again by schap's advanced configuration tool, which doesn't work anymore now Anyway extrom is hidden and eye on thief runs because I can hear its beep! The question is, will it continue to autorun after an hard reset?

Ive not installed the app in question, but if i understand the ExtROM correctly, the user has 3 seconds to cancel the installation of files in the ExtROM after a hard reset, which means they could bypass the reinstallation of EOT.
I could be wrong

The matter is EOT doesn't have a standard "cab" installation but only an exe, a dll and a ini config file...the only thing that makes it "installed" is the autorun check mark set when you open its exe...and I don't know what it does and if it makes eot work again after hr...

I've just understood that the Autorun check simply copies a link to the app in the startup folder.
How can we do this by a autoinstalling cab in extrom, together with the apps files?

You might want to check the development area for my SecurIt application which is my project after trying to do the same things with eye on theif etc. It's in a early stage right now, but it's functional and not terribly difficult to burn into a rom.

Uninstalling the O2 UI of XDA II

I have from O2 the device XDA II. I want to uninstall the O2 UI called
V2R o2ActiveUI. When I try to uninstall it, I get the error, that the

Thanks for the hint, but in the autostart directory, there is no file called o2ActiveUI.exe or Connections.exe.
Regards,
Volkan
but there is a link called Active ;-)
that's it...
Alex
Deleting the link will not delete the program but will stop it loading when you reset your device.
Depending on how you use your device it may be better to keep it installed but not running. I occasionally find I have to run it to reestablish my settings for WAP and GPRS when they give me grief.
To remove the program completely, you would have to hard reset, stop the auto-setup from running, install extended_rom cab and then open the config.txt file from the extended rom. Then one, by one chose the programs you want to install but avoid the o2 active one.
Cheers
I just clicked remove programs on mine and it worked no problem. Certainly didn't require a hard reset. A friend of mine had a problem with the program saying that certain files were in use. He renamed the files that were supposed to be in use, soft reset, then remove, then delete the renamed files.
Hope that helps.
Rgds,
Rob.
isnt it a today plugin? if so maybe it's just a matter of disabling it then uninstalling.
if not then i'd go with the startup folder and take out the lnk or whatever that makes it run on a soft reset . . . THEN uninstall.
I dont think you have to resort to a hard reset just yet since the issue is simply not being able to delete a locked (running) file, so if you figure the way to NOT make it run, then uninstalling should be easy.

How do uninstall - Smart Dialing and Intellipad

Can't see them in the add - remove programs.
Cheers
I thought about this long time a go...
the only trick u can do is not to install them in the first place...
these programs ( as well as others ) are in the Ext_ROM.. and are automatically installed after a hard reset..
if you do not with to install them, do the following:
Hard reset, and when you get the customization screen do a soft reset..
now with file explorer you can see a folder called Extended_ROM and it contain all of the applications automatically installed...
enter the Eet_ROM and install only what you wish to have...
PS. these programs are CAB files...
this trick gave me more free RAM, and now I have around 38 MB of free program RAM after a soft reset.
another way, a program call remover.... I never used it to uninstall these stuff, but if you wish to use it, keep in mind that you have to make you date ( in your phone ) something like 2003 or so... because the thing gets locked after that....
I hope this could help
cheers
Cheers mate.
I installed them after a hard reset to see if they were any good, but don't really like them.
I can disable them so it not too much of an issue

It can, just try again anad again, i did it on my 4th attemps
Cheers!
Thanks for the response but I haven't had any success after several tries. I tried installing the Wizard unlock cab file and afterwards with Total Commander, I can reset the Read Only bit on all the files and copy the files to my SD card. However, I am unable to delete any files. They appear to be deleted but come back after a soft reset. I would like to especially get rid of all the operator settings files. The rest of the stuff like Skype, Anti Virus and Backgammon I can get rid of using Settings>Remove Programs.
Frank
Isn't "ROM" short for "read only memory"?
hi, I am using Buzz's unlocker for Wizard... it made the ExtROM visible but still it is read only
I need to find how can I delete and add files to it.
Any challenging minds out there?
Total commander does not work with the jamin in my case anyway.
Tried several time with no results.

hi,
unlocker for wizard is not mine...
buzz
...well, if anyone can give me a dump of Prophet's bootloader + clean registry export, i can take a look at it..
buzz
Buzz,
Thanks for the great offer.
I can give you the clean reg but how can i get you the first part, bootloader thingie?
Regards
I have used the Wizard Extended ROM unlock program to unlock the ROM on my Prophet. I now have a copy of the Extended ROM on my SD Card. I'm not concerned about erasing the Extended ROM files, I just don't wan them installed, so I did a Hard Reset and just when it says that it will start installing the additional prorams in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset.
OK, now I have a Prophet without extended ROM. I can now install the stuff that I want.
Most of the cab files I've figured out, Does anyone know what the following extended ROM cabs do? This is from the latest Imate Jamin ROM.
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_MP_Shortcut_MMS1_JAVA_VOICE_CV_051213.CAB
Default_PP_TSK.CAB
Default_PP_UAString.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_IconDll.sa.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_Patch_SD.sa.CAB
Thanks heaps,
Matterhorn
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB is the anti-virus app which used to play havoc in slowing down the KJAM. Maybe this version is better but I uninstalled it using Remove Programs. About the rest I am not sure. At least you don't have Skype, backgammon and the Operator Settings files so I expect you will gain a fair amount.
Frank
you can use wince cab manager to see the content of the cab file.
Still nothing? Guess I will go the way of Matterhorn when I need to do a hard reset. Several others have not installed the Extended ROM at all and have reported significant speedup in the JAMin.
Frank
That would be me. I haven't installed one thing off the extended rom and my speed is really pretty good. You can see a video review at the link below to compare the m600 and the jamin (with no extended rom). Keep in mind I don't use mms, skype, antivirus anyway....so no big deal to leave off the ext rom. I also use adobe and don't need the clearview .pdf. Hope the video helps
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=849592
Thanks, Mike. I don't use the stuff either except MMS once in a while but can just as easily use email for that. I presume Voice Dial is in the Extended Rom but rather have MS VC anyway and things like Connection Manager, Messaging, etc., that I want are not in the Extended ROM so I should be fine.
Now to find time to do a hard reset and re-install my apps.
Frank
Everyone has diffrent issues, I was able to delete the files from there (verified by refreshing the dir, and I recieved no read only error) but I was unable to write files to it, which I thought was very strange, I am using APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe and it does NOT give me the success msg it acts like it hasnt even ran. I updated my ROM to teh test one that was floating auround 2.8.7 whatever, and I realized too late that aWizard has no way to reflash teh extended ROM so I am without all my Cingular apps and I have all the 2.8.7 Extended rom stuff with the 1.8 Cingular OS ROM which I reverted back to. Any suggestions how I can replace my extended ROM ?
any luck so far?
Hi guys,
Are we getting any hope/luck to unlock Ext ROM for JAMin/Prophet?
I don't know how you guys are doing it. I have tried several times to delete items in my extended rom using total commander, at least 10 times and the result is the same. After the hard reset all that was deleted was re-installed after the reset.
I have contacted TC a while ago, and have not heard anything, maybe they are working on it.
Just curious....as I'm new to this ext rom stuff....but why don't you just "not install" the ext rom. Then use gsfinder to install whichever .cabs you want? If any? Just curious as I may be missing something.

No, I think the end result would be pretty much the same. For me I would like an Extended ROM for the JAMin that includes exacty what I want installed - no Backgammon, AntiVirus, Smart Dialing, Skype and a single Operator Settings file for TMO USA. Then when I hard reset I don't have to mess with anything else, just let it go. I had my KJAM setup that way and I would like the JAMin to be the same. I would also be as close to an OEM install as I can get (without the junk) so I don't have to worry about proper default settings not being there because of some file I didn't install or installed in the wrong order. Having said all this and thinking about it more I am sure you would get to the same point doing your procedure and then installing the required .cab files in the proper order.
Now I have a question:
Wonder what would happen if I did a hard reset, then did the soft reset to stop the Ext ROM install, installed the required .cab files in order, soft reset and then restored from a Sprite BU file. Wonder would I be restoring any files that could cause problems due to an imcomplete ROM install? I guess I will have to try that first since I do hate to re-install a bunch of apps and especially have to re-enter all the reg codes.

XDA Atom Extended Rom - How to put new files in startup?

Hi All,
I bought Cartystudios Ultimate Theft Alert after reading about it on this site. It is indeed a good product but theres a problem when using it on the atom.
If a thief hard resets the device, the protection is lost.
apparently, on most devices, its possible to put the file in the extended rom, so that if its hard reset, the app loads and runs the checks to see if the sim has been changed.
I've managed to locate the hidden partition using the unlocker but placing the files has no effect. Is it possible to edit anything that will run the uta application when the device is hard reset? Can the autoinst.dat file be edited to change which progs r run on startup?
anyone?
I don't see any reason to put autoinstalled program after hard reset. Usually, you use programs that need serials... so during startup, you must input these serials... that need time&serial list... that you must store anythere... To my mind the better way, use SPB backup programm, which create self extract application, that  autoinstall all programs, that you need after hard reset.
yes under ordinary circumstances, you're correct...
however, this program is to help you recover your phone when it's stolen.
I dont even need it to install upon hard reset, it would be enough if it would just run after hard reset as it is an exe file.
Basically i need some way to run exe files from the extended rom upon hard reset...kind of the way the auto configurator always runs, or the o2 install app runs
anyone managed to cook this into ATOM?
anyone manage to locate the autoinst.dat or config.txt for customisation?

Annoying Problem with removing programs (google navigator)

I have a problem that is completely driving me crazy....whenever i remove any program on my xperia ....there is always some files remaining in the program files, and being a perfectionist i always try to delete them, but get an error reporting that the file is in use, which annoys me even more because it means some process is still running
p.s up till now this happened with google navigator, and a tweak tool i downloaded from here before....plz help me , don't want to hard reset every time i want to uninstall a program !
why is it o body want's to help me ??
a) have you thought other people might have a reallife(tm) and not be on here 24hrs 7days per week ?
you asked less than 4hours before you post moaning?
b) this is not a support forum
c) you need to give more information
how did you install the programs?
how did you remove the programs?
what files are left?
have you soft reset after uninstalling the progs?
what software are you using to see the folders?
if you have files that are in use you need to soft reset.
I humbly ask sorry.....
Well to view the folders i use the normal file explorer....i did a soft reset but still on deleting the program folder it tells me it is in use....tried installin and uninstalling again google navigator (trial) but nothing, it also gives me an error on start up telling me the process could not be launched....is this normal.....
P.S: again i ask sorry for stressing so much to get a reply
i had the same problem. to solve it, use file explorer and go to: My Device-Windows-Startup, from there delete the file which have Agent written (something like GAgent, i forgot). After deleting it, restart (soft reset).
Then use file explorer to delete the google navigator folder
ok i deleted gagent and this solved the problem....bu there is another file....i don't remember its name precisely i guess sth like "GNagent" ....should i delete this one ... I tried to but i cannot .....and i accidently renamed it ....can you tell me its correct name ?, cause i'm afraid it's a system file :s

That's not a system file.
Also find, download, install and use total commander, there's either lots of cabs onthis forum for it, or search for the manufacturers website.
It's a Free file manager that's much better than the built in one. It allows you to overwrite files in rom amongst other things. It may well delete the file for you.
Total Commander would help at deletting softwares? that could be nice, for example, I installed the mtoday, and, I am not able to uninstal it...I do understand waht is a hard reset, but the soft one, sorry, this is still not very clear for me...If I would guess, would we need to make a soft reset, each time, we uninstall a software? does would help to clean after?
thanks you

soft reset is when you stick the stylus in the whole in the back, or turn the device completely off and on again.
If there's processes still in use on the phone then a soft reset will stop them being used, (unless they are set to start-up again automatically)
for example, if you install a dialler skin then want to get rid of it. After uninstalling you'll need to soft reset to make sure the dialler is not locking the files so they can be deleted.
