Oh wise ones can you help
I have conected my M1000 to my Wifi network and can surf the net ( connect to internet in network card settings)
and i can Active Sync using Wifi as well ( connect to work in network card settings)
But is there anyway i can listen to my tunes in my shared music folder through wifi like i do with my laptop?
just a thought headphones in while washing the car etc
Thanks In advance
yes.. well maybe.
what you will need is a media player for pocket pc supporting streaming.
basically what you can do is set up a media streaming server
(look at a piece of software called vlc...its a media player for pc's)
then you just need to stream your songs from the pc to the client media player on the pda and you could use the webfrontend from your pda to set up the playlist.
if theres a ppc media player supporting streaming (i've never looked) its actually quite simple and quite nice.

could tell mE how to;
"surf the net ( connect to internet in network card settings)
and i can Active Sync using Wifi as well ( connect to work in network card settings)"
using my sdio wifi connection PLEEEEEEASE
heh as i stated above go look at VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
this will be the server that you stick on your pc..theres a great howto on vlc over at engadget http://engadget.com/2005/11/29/how-to-stream-almost-anything-using-vlc/.
then you need a media player on your ppc to stream to. now i happened to notice theres an experimental vlc for ppc which would do nicely..but you can do a google and find a ppc media player...as long as it supports streams your good to go.
i've not actually tried this myself but i know it'll work.
enjoy!
if I plug my xda into the cradle, I can surf the Internet etc. But even though I have installed the drivers, and the utility for my SDIO CARD, and the utility tells me I am connected to my router, I cannot surf the Internet when disconnected from the cradle.
When I go start menu/settings/connections/advanced/network and I can see and configure my connection.
my network connection name is correct.
when I go into "connects to: (i chose) the Internet"(the other option was "work").
In in " select networks" by port;
programs automatically connect to the Internet should connect using "my work network".
Programs automatically connect to a private network should connect using "my work network".
oh so your issue is you can't get the internet on your phone via wireless.... would have been better if you had made that clear and also created a new topic to ask the question
first thing to do i think would be select the work network... rather than the internet...next is to check its being assigned the routers ip for a gateway
then should work
thanks.
Because my system is new, I actually did a hard restart, then reinstalled the drivers and the utility for the SDIO. As soon as I plugged in the card my router network was named, I selected it and chose work instead of Internet as you suggested. This would not work on the Internet. the xda told me I need to set up the proxy server, which I didn't know how to do,So then I went back into the settings and connections advanced as I said above, and changed it from work to the Internet. I can now connect to the Internet when I'm not connected to my cradle.I haven't done anything in the "tasks" section of my connections, I've only worked in the "advanced" section.
I raised the router firewall and it still worked. I now want to try putting in the WEP encryption, can you tell me where I do that?
now to do an ActiveSync as the guy described above I will have to go through the router IP address, to my desktop computer which is connected through a LAN connection. I just turned on the printer and filesharing in my network setup. And at the Norton Internet Security has recognised the change, and made adjustments. How do I now go about setting up a ActiveSync?
Thanks for all this help, I appreciate it.
right wep im afraid i've forgotten my sdio wireless cards bust.. activesync is a nice easy one tho
under the advanced settings of the card there will be a place where you can put in a WINS server ip in there put the ip address of the pc you want to sync with. then run activesync from your xda and it should work.
you may need to enable sync over network in activesync on your pc first however
I'm sorry to be a dummy mate, do you mean start/settings/connections/advanced/network card, for the advanced settings for the card?if so I cannot find the WINS setting etc.
By the way, I have found if you go through the root above, click on your connection you are connected to, you can put the network key in there.
start/settings/connections/advanced/network cards/select your wifi/name servers
I don´t know why everybody talks abaut music over wifi installing a music streaming software, I think that it´s not really necesary.
For example, at home, I´ve got 4 pcs included in my wifi network. And all of them have a hard disk drive added to the shared drives of the wlan, so I can get access to every one of them. If you just go to resco explorer, share those drives of the network, and try to open mp3 files of those drives, you will be opening mp3 files from another pc with your ppc´s media reproducer...
If there´s not a lot of traffic in the network, you will hear the mp3 files without any problems, but it there is, you will hear the music well, but with a little bit of "chskcs" (I mean that it sounds something like: ckshksd when I´m hearing the mp3 file) every 5 seconds more or less..
This is the same for divx films. But here, the trouble of "chsks" is bigger...

yeah i've never really bothered i just use pc and turn it up loud...the problem arises when you have a number of computers all playing mp3's from the same location...goodbye bandwidth, hello to skippy noise.
with a streaming server the network traffic is reduced which i suppose is a small benifit...also it means you can do it not only on the network but access it over the internet aswell...which for some ppl is probably a good reason. hell why buy an ipod if you have inet access to an 80gig mp3 collection anyway (aside from when you cant get an inet connection  )
Wop... You have turn it on my lamp, and now I´ve got the key to stop the boring study evenings at the library...
The problem is that I prefer to listen music of my 1giga sd card, to be connected to the university wlan and listening from my streaming, cause my wifi card "kills" the battery of my XDA II in... I don´t know, but maybe 3 hours of continued use, whereas listenin music of the sd card consume much less... But it´s a great thing the streaming server...
Thanks 4 all
yeah i know what you mean about the wifi killing the battery. i ended up getting the backpack for my xda2..still found battery power wasn't enough so i keep my charger with me as well
How many time could you increase with the batery pack?
I have seen it in expansys.com (or a net shop lite that) and it costs abaut 115 euros. The pack comes with a TV adapter, to watch your xda II screen on the tv, and the battery.

i think the backpack battery is about half that of the internal so if your internal lasts say 3 hours on its own with the backpack it lasts 4 1/2 - 5 ish i think was my rough increase..cannot really remember as my wlan card is bust and i havent used the backpack since
I am using a Cingular 8525 with the new rom from AT&T. I was wondering if anyone else encountered this issue. I can no longer stream audio or video from any source including windows media mobile site. I first noticed the problem when i tried to use xstreamxm and the site works but it wont trasfer over to the media player to actually play.
I'd very much like to know the answer to this as well as I'm having the same exact problem with xstreamxm only I'm currently using WXML 0.21.....
XstreamXM ( http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile ) works fine on my device as well but when WMP picks up the stream it goes to Buffering 0% then reverts back to paused. After I upgraded to WXML I used wpbear's cingular mms cab (thank you so much wpbear). Internet and MMS work fine but if I can't listen to Ethel and The Virus then why do I exist???
Whoever is kind enough to solve this issue for me will gladly be given the honorary spirit award for the day =]

This is killing me with the new 3.3 ROM also... hopefully someone can help...
Have you tried...
...using isp.cingular? Or at least configuring "My ISP" (does not use proxies) with the standard wap.cingular settings?
I have both isp and wap settings currently in my phone and set to auto pick. I've also tried using both profiles seperately, disconnecting and trying again to no avail.
Works with Net front
I stated using netfront in order to get cingular video. Now i can get streams to work from xstreamxm.com./mobile and other sites. Any kind of audio stream still dosent work in pie. I am using media net with the wireless.cingular proxy or just wifi.
I have not had a problem, but I have been using www.radio4pda.com
I still cannot get past my 0% buffering no matter wap or isp or netfront rather than ie. I believe ppennza's problem was a bit different than mine. can anyone replicate this problem or solve it?
I have the same problem either I use GPRS or WiFi, I had to go back to the official 1.34 and problem solved.
BTW BBC 2.1.2.54 works fine on both (2.06 and 1.34)
I have had my ATT 8525 for about a week. I wanted to stream media from my computer with orb. It works just fine over wifi, but I can't get it to work using att edge, I don't have 3G were I live. I also tried streming other things from other sites, such as radio, over both wifi and edge and only wifi would work. Windows media player will say it is connecting and locating file, then it just stops. And somtimes I get an unknown error 0X80072751 from media player. I have tried installing both wm5 and wm6. The same with mobiTV, it only works with wifi. What am I doing wrong, or what can I do to fix this so I can watch orb on the go?
I have a slight problem with youtube: It plays fine over Wifi but NOT over the data connection. It loads the Streaming Media app, displays 'connecting' then buffering and then an error: 'No audio frames found'
If I enable Wifi it works just fine. The data connection works well for everything else, it's not using a proxy and it's set to conenct to the internet. It also seems to download the data as my GPRS data counter is showing a few MB's downloaded.....yet nothing played.
Has anyone seen this before?
TIA
No One? We'll I'll try a hard reset then....
I never had such a problem...
Well....after a hard reset and some testing I found that it seems to work on one AP but not the other. Strangely enough, the Streaming Media player uses the conenction I set up for it but unless both Internet and Private connections (under Settings/Connections) are also configured to use it it still does not work right. Using Internet sharing from the phone it works with either access point.....however that would make any sense..... I assume the mobile youtube page must use a different protocol for streaming than the page I get to se on the laptop. Anyway, I'm on Telstra....maybe on other networks you don't get these kinds of headaches ;-)
Cheers
I am using a Fujitsu-Siemens N520 PocketPC connected to my router on wifi as a web radio player. The incription I use for wireless is WPA/TKIP and the application I use is GSPlayer. It works fine but sometimes it disconnects from the station and stalls. I have to double click he station in the playlist again to restart it. This wouldn't be so annoying if these disconnections would be occasional. But usually after 15-20 minutes it disconnects.
I know that Android shuts down the processor and wireless after a while even if the wifi is in use by an application after some idle time. I had to install an application to prevent this. Is there something similar for WM6 ?
Is there an application that would automatically restart the station if let's say no network activity is present for a specific time interval?
Thank you
