USB HDD Possible? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Sorry if its a well known question but havent used my uni for a while, running WM6 and the rom I have has a USD HDD program on it.
Is this possible???
Either for mem sticks etc or for proper HDD(USB)
I have used the search and am still none the wiser.

yeah, it should run everywhere, even under linux
the only problem is, that the uni only supports sd-cards up to 4gb
greetings
max

Universal doesn't have USB Host HW ...
But.......Yes ! You can find some special HDD like Asus WL-HDD( or clones) working perfect with Universal by WiFi connection .
I used it for Universal too

Thanks for the replies, thats all I needed to know, doesnt do my plans for the uni any good on account of the sd not working but never mind

"USB Mass Storage Device" Software

Hi,
Just like the new feature in WM5 "USB Mass Storage Device" there is a software package which does the same.
It turns the USB port of your Pocket Pc in a Dumb USB Memory stick. Check out http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
BUT Sadly.... the site say's the following:"i-Mate
Model Processor type Test result Notes
Jam Intel PXA27x Doesn't work yet
So I need other potential users who think they gonna buy the software when it works on the Magician! They say We are permanently developing support for the new devices. Tell us what device support do you need.
Drop them a Mail or message on http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/ and hopefully they will develop soon a nice to have tool (and long waited for one) for the Magician!
Or maybe somebody else knows a alternative (yeah yeah, i would like to say the wm5 will come soon to the magician)
Take care , Tom from Holland
Stupid me, Didn;t use the search option long enough, find a cross posting : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23233 was allready there. Looks like they fixed the [problem, unofficial it works now thanx to DES.
If I read from the website :
Accessing storage card has never been easier!
Switch USB mode from Active Sync to Card Export
Insert your Pocket PC into cradle or connect to USB cable
And after few seconds desktop drivers automatically mount cards as a logical disk!
What is special in it? Cant you do it using ActiveSync?

Not all machines have ActiveSync installed. With Card Export installed, you ppc can be treated as a card reader (no driver for Win2k or above).
Using card export for Car Radio's.
Is there someone who tested it also with USB Car Radio systems? They sell car radio's where you can put in your USB key/stick and the Car radio starts playing the MP3 songs on that stick!
It would be awesome if you could connect you Jam to you radio system this way!
Take Care, Tom from Holland.
I Got a quick and complete answer back from them!

Thank you for your request.
As far as I know, Card Export II should work with Car radio, because we have reports that Card Export II for Palm OS works with Car radio. Anyway, you'll be able to download trial version and try it before buying.
We are planning to support your device in our updated version today or tomorrow.
Sincerely yours

How do I switch form Active Sync to card export?
Typically RTFM!
Or start CE2 on your magician, you'll get a icon in your tray, tick it and setup preferences & default card. Then tick Card Export in the same menu. Now your magacian isn't using the SD anymore. On your PC disable AS usb connection & plugin the usb at both ends. Now your mass storage device will be installed.
regards, M
So this is not possible without CE?

Not everyone has a card reader at home and not everyone has activesync installed. i.e. i use CE when i'm at university and i need to bring my work with me, or when i'm at one of my friends' home and he shows me his latest mp3 collection...
I don't usually bring a usb key with me (and even when i do, my key has only 128MB Vs my jam SD card's 1GB) while my jam is ALWAYS with me. Sure, you'll need a mini usb cable but, fortunately, many digital cameras, scanners, printers and so on have one.
That said, I think CE is one of the most useful programs out there.
Just my two cents...
Bye bye,
Isidoro
PS: starting from 2.04, Card ExportII is FULLY compatible with our Magicians.
PS2: I'm DEFINITELY NOT a CE developer!!! Bye

I agree CE is the best option (I'm still in the trial period), only having WM5 & CE apparently being not compatible you need that card-reader or settle for low speed LOL
First advantage of not having WM5 second is VGS push-mail
Perfect. I just tried it, and it works flawlessly straight out of the box.

Sandisk Connectplus card w/ WM5 possible?

Anybody know a way to get a Sandisk Connectplus +128 wifi CF card to work with WM5 ? Drivers for WM2003 are available from Sandisk but that's all. Some of the Linux users have gotten theirs to work with Prism 3 drivers, but it didn't work for me. I've got an ipaq hx4700 with onboard wifi. I have the card leftover from an older ipaq and would like to try to make an external antenna for it rather than messing with the onboard wifi. Thanks for any help.

This forum is for HTC manufactured devices but have you tried the 2003 drivers maybe they will work
Sorry, I thought this device was made by HTC because there's alot of posts about it on another thread. Anyway, I wasn't able to get it to work with the 2003 Sandisk drivers or with some HTC customized Prism drivers from another site. The card doesn't show up at all, not even a message like "unrecognized card" (the 128MB of built in flash on the card are available however)
I may be doing something wrong, my knowledge of these things is very limited. I removed the ipaq wireless manager shortcut .lnk file from the startup folder and made sure the onboard wifi was not active but, maybe other registry changes need to be made as well.?
BTW, out of curiosity I thought I would take a peek at the onboard wifi internals. Fairly simple removing the 4 screws and popping off the plastic corner antenna cover. I noticed what looks like a connector of some kind in the wifi area: not on the wifi daughterboard but just next to it. I don't know what it is, testing connector? JTAG? or maybe antenna? I'm not about to mess with my internal wifi hardware without knowing what the hell I'm doing but maybe others would be interested. Googleing about external wifi connector hacks on PDAs I only find one guy that did it with his Axim.

can you post a pic maybe i can help you with this more then the drivers
I'll try to post a pic later.
Meanwhile I haven't totally given up on this old card. I tried installing the official Sandisk 2003 drivers again and managed to get the ipaq to "see it"' but it won't connect: the LED on the card blinks but there are no networks being detected where there should be.
BTW, for any HTC owners, here's the link to the custom Sandisk drivers I tried earlier. Probably ancient for most but might help someone.

maybe its a typo but its not HPC its HTC (High Tech Computer Corp. and is the name of the manufacture) but maybe he meant Handheld PC (came before pocket pc look at link). So the drivers are i think even before WM2002.(thats cool that they are still around maybe all these forums will still be around in ten years or more)
and he edited the drivers so that the would work on a old device, dont see that, that much

plz help ?

hey guys just wanted to know that is it possible to connect external harddisk or a pendrive to universal ( exec ) ? i want to connect my external harddisk to universal and want to see harddisk data on universal is it possible plz rep .. thanx
Could well be possible , for this your WM will have to work as USN HOST .
Will search and let u know if i find anything
No, it is not possible.
The number of WM devices that actually have USB host functionality can be counted using fingers of one hand and the exec / Universal is not one of them.
USB host is a hardware matter (not just a driver) so you can not install a patch.
Yup, impossible. In addition to levenum's post, let me also state that, as there're no USB host cards in the SD format, you can only use Wi-Fi (or the sloooooooow BT) to access external hard drives.
There're some access points that have this kind of functionality; for example, NetGear's WGT634U. See http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13738 for more info.

Usb host on Acer s200

It s a little strange but seems like no one in this forum tried to connect usb devices to our phone since zeno usb host driver has been released.I tried to search in google but no one tried in acer s200...Are there anyone that know if it work before i try it by myself?
I've tried it
HI, i have tried it with a 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, usb flash storage. But it seems not to work. It don't shows me another device in the explorer (win explorer or resco explorer)
Maybe someone have tried it succesfully?
external power is required, see usb-host scheme by dcordes... keep in mind, however, that hd2's got a micro-usb connector

Hi tsamolotoff,
the usb host work properly:
Yes i built a usb cable with external power supply.I ve made a cable that supply 5v to the device i want to attach to the s200,but only the two data lines go to the phone. But this afternoon i ve read a german forum and someone said that in some cases (nokia) the usb host cable must supply 5v even to the pocket pc,and i want to try by this way.Stefano wich cable have you made to get the s200 found the usb mouse and the pen drive in linux kernel?Do you think that with zeno drivers we can use the usb host even in windows?
Stefano_1986_
Interesting, however, it'd more exciting if it worked under wince (did you check?)

I have checked but not working
ok almost like mine. This morning with this cable and zeno drivers i ve noticed that if you connect a device like a pen drive, the screen turn on backlight, and it s not for the fact that i attached the cable with 5v,the tension is always present in the usb cable. So maybe the hardware feel the new device but have not the correct drivers to control
What is the solution I have the same problem
so all, what's the solution then? if I want to conect my F1 to a CF card reader? how to use external power...
It doesn t work under windows mobile...This is the solution.
It only work via linux kernel (tested a mouse a keyboard and a usb drive),but since no android build is avaible for s200 you can t use it.
So usb host is supported by s200 hardware, but it s locked in windows mobile kernel and can t be changed.this is a really great stupid thing i know...but sadly it s the true
Guru correct me if i writed something wrong
maybe it can work now, coz Android can be loaded in S200...
I just think if my S200 can read the photos from CF card reader...
yes sure we can make it work under linud distros or android as proved by stefano some month ago

Hello all
Just bought one of these off the net for the missus so ill be active around these threads as well. Personally i have a xoom this will be like my second to flash the heck out of lol but as I've been reading about these i have a couple small questions
1. Is the sd card working on stock rom so i can flash customs or will an update to 3.1 be required like the xoom?
2. Does the usb port work as host out of the box?
3. Whats the general stable oc you guys are achieving?
I have tried to search these but some are hazy on the specs or they are outdated
Cheers

Fastest claimed speed is 1.64ghz, stable closer to 1.5.
SD card does work on stock, actually is required for flashing. As yet you can't flash from on board only external.
USB seems to work for some devices not others depending on whether you use the full size USB or the mini. Look on the market for USB mount all, you do need fat32 not ntfs though
Anyone want to contradict any of this?
Cheers mate thats good to hear except for the host feature thats the whole point hoppwfulky i get a good one

Yes USB host [the fullsize USB not the mini] works out of the box. If your USB device requires power though - like some external HDD's - it may not work as there might not be enough power draw.
The mini USB is for the connection to your computer and SDK/ADB/general File transfer use - along side the Acer USB driver install [so make sure you've got the Acer USB driver installed on the computer(s) you plan on using to push files to the tab though mini-USB].

Yeh as i said im well advised due my xoom on rooting and android adb, drivers (not being a know it all smart azz) just those couple q got me thinking.. Thanks for a second opinion seems very similar to xoom. Shame how host cant produce 5v at 500ma it wouldnt be to hard for them to up the lousy 3.7v it seems they are running now
