Waiman
I have exactly the saeme problem. MDA is PWA10A2, the update is for PWA10A1 and thus doesn't flash. (except for radio which I updated already).
You can use the ROM Image tool from here, it needs a 32MB SD card and a PC SD card reader but it is supposed to be risky.
Anybody tried updating to this ROM on PWA10A2 before we burn our machines? >
Get your self a FAQ with a description for a language change. Then patch that file according to that FAQ, do not change the language but the phone type. that's all.
** Remember, you might loos guaranty, it might fail or your device might get broken ! **
Can I revert to the older ROM (the working ROM) then? The bootloader should work anyway?
I can't see the FAQ though, is it PPC general or MDA/XDA specific?
I patched the ROM (rewrote the desired ID of XDA to match with my MDA ), flashed and... guess what... it works
Some info about my phone
IPL 1.08
SPL 1.08
GSM 01.09.10
OS 1.8.10.2
I would like to upgrade to the latest i-mate rom ( i think ) i don't know any differences with any other roms etc... ive been looking on the other threads maybe if my question has been answered with someone else... i can get pointed to a proper thread, i just want to know what steps i should take to upgrade my rom, i dont wanna lose any data, not that i have much id like to backup my contacts basically thats the most important, also.. since i dont have money for a 128 card right now would it be possible to load someone elses backed up tmobile mda rom ? if they zipped it up and sent it so i can restore it when i get a msd card.. any help is greatly appreciated , thanks in advance.
Copy your contacts by ActiveSyncing them to a PC, or copy your pim.vol (in the root of your Device) to your SD card and upgrade it.
Good luck.
Ahhh
Ah okay now... which rom should I try out first ? and... don't i need to CID unlock it? i'm trying to find a good thread on the upgrade procedures and the best rom to try first.
Best rom...best rom..... the Rom you choose is a personal choice (and yes, you need to CID unlock first IF you want to upgrade to a Rom of another manufacturer, if you have lets say T-Mobile and you want to upgrade to another T-Mobile Rom, you don't have to CID unlock your Wizard).
I like the Qtek Roms myself, but then again, I only use Dutch Roms, not WWE (WorldWideEnglish) Roms, so I have to make a choice between T-Mobile or Qtek and then the choice is simple in my opinion
If you don't know anything about upgrading, my opinion is, try soms official Roms first, then you know what the deal is and then you can make a choice if you maybe want to use a customized Rom like the Mr. Clean Roms for example.
Regards,
Molski
p.s. There are A LOT of threads about upgrading.
Ah thanks for the info... i tried a beta 2.24 rom i think... its pretty nice, i personally cant tell much of a difference,, connmgr is different has more options etc... im thinking of trying mr clean 2.3 is the latest right ? and if i get this does it include all the office apps and such ?
a second question... i dont like the wifi apps included and i noticed an AXIM dell PPC with WM5 had a nice wifi config app/wifi AP finder, and noticed it was made by Hi Tech Computer (HTC) any way to copy this or use it on my phone ?
check my other thread about my CID unlock problem and let me know if i should try to CID unlock it again... and backup... thanks!!
Hi, I'm going to be getting a SIM unlocked t-mobile MDA soon, and was wondering if I should put a custom ROM on it. I understand I have to CID unlock it first. I'm new the custom ROM thing, but I've been intalling custom homebrew firmwares on my psp all the time, so I know about the risks. People have told me that I shouldn't do it because the mda is desgined for windows mobile 5, and should be left at that, and custom ROMs are very buggy, and freeze a lot. Is this true? and can someone help me to CID unlock my MDA. Also, how can I tell if its a G3 or G4? and what's the difference between them? and there are so many custom ROMS out there, which one is the best? I heard it was the core 2 by xplore, but im not sure. What do you think? Please answer with something! I'm very frustrated right now, THNAKS!!!
In the section called wizard upgrading is a sticky by Dr. P...in it it explains how to unlock your device. Read it, then read it again, follow the directions explicitly.
As for rom...I have a Tmo MDA running a WM6 custon rom...Jaguar 3.1
Each rom is different, it depends on what you want in a rom. If you want bells and whistles go with a TNT rom. If you want a zero calorie rom go with a Core rom and customize as you need by installing 3rd party apps. If you want something in between, go with Jaguar or a Faria...there are so many amazing chef's at work here at xda, that in truth, you just gotta try each kitchen out until you find the one that meets your tastes. Be warned...you may turn into a flashing junkie and need to join the xda 12-step program!!!
Ok, thanks. You've helped me a lot. I think ill go with the faria or jaguar, I like the sound of them, but ill look up more info on them first. Thanks again.

It all depends on your taste...i always like to cook my own ROM...pick the one you like, dump and add packages you like and enjoy...but READ (I mean READ...) wiki and stickies before you flash...dont just flash anything and brick your device...
PS: Stick with OS version ending .318 for better wifi connections
Ok, thanks. I should be getting my MDA tomorrow (thursday) so Ill probably start installing custom ROM's on friday, because I want to get to know the MDA a little bit before I install customs ROM's. Also, how can I check if it's a G3 or G4? I know it has something to do with the numbers that show up when the device is turned on, but I'm not sure, can anyone help? Also, hat do u mean "add packages" can I customize my custom ROM however I want? I can add whatever apps I want on the ROM? Also, are all custom ROM's windows mobile 6? are there such things as windows mobile 5 custom ROM's? its not that I want it, just curious. Is there a such thing as jaguar.318? (you said .318 has better wifi)

All you need is in here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard. Jaguar is .318 OS, if you flash that you should be good to go...read wiki before you do anything with your MDA. Good luck.

Hmmm, Take my advise,as you are getting a new device,it wud probably will be with wm5 T-Mobile Rom.why don't you just use it for sometimes, enjoy the new device, get to know all the features and applications and really get to know your device and when you are fully comfortable then go for an upgrade to wm6 version Rom. In the meanwhile, READ 'n' READ all about CID unlocking and upgrading,so that when you are actually going to do it,you have the whole procedure done successfully and effortless
Secondly, it's very very important to know the correct DOC chip version on your device ( G3 or G4) cuz both the devices have all together different method for upgrading,if you do a G3 method to unlock or upgrade to a G4 device,it'll "Brick" the phone,so first determine the version of the device. Download the WST Tool and install, run it and check the report it generates to verify the DOC chip version, whether it's a G3 or G4 device.
Good luck
Yeah, your right, I got my MDA yesterday, and I'm pretty happy with wm5 right now. Ill put a custom ROM on later, no point in risking a birck already, but I still want to CID unlock it now, so I don't have to do it later. Thanks for your advice. I found a lot of things to on the net make a wm5 look like wm6, i got a theme, and media player skin. Do you know any other ways I can make my wm5 look like wm6? Icons? buttons? sounds? is there anything like this on this website? i'm going to check anyways.
Search in the xda wizard forums. A while back someone posted WM^ themes, ringtones, icons etc...if it isn't in the wizard section, then I saw it in the general topics section. Sorry I cannot remember which, but I DO remember seeing it posted here at xda, so just search WM6 themes.
What do you guys think of this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310864 is it a .318? does it have good wifi? please give me a short review or something

Well, this one is an old cooked Rom on an older Base Rom,there are at present many latest cooked custom Roms on newer Base Roms,I'll suggest you to consider those,it wud be more beneficial and enjoyable with better and advanced features.Like TNT 1437,TNT 1933,NBD 9.2,they all are excellent build Roms.
You can check out all the latest wm6 Roms on 'Wizard Mobile 6' forum
ok thanks, also i used the lokiwiz program to CID unlock wizard, but I am not sure if it worked, is there any way to tell if my mda is really CID unlocked??? Also, can I upgrade the ROM witgh Vitsa? it didnt work, then I tried the activesync driver, I found the instructions on this website, bit it still didn't work, i followed all directions, and tried 10 times. To verify the CID lock/unlock status, download the WST tool and run, check the button "CID Action" written on it,this will give the report to verify if you device is CID locked or unlocked.
Secondly, don't use Win Vista as it has many problems yet.Flashing is always easy and recommended with WinXP SP2,ok
Cheers

Maybe you'd like to give my ROM a go
ok thanks for all your help. I guess ill have to go to the library to put a custom ROM on, the have xp there. What is your ROM? Can you tell me more about it?
ok thanks for all ur help. I go to the library to out a ROM on it, they have xp there. What is you ROM dferreira? can you tell me more about it? is it wm6,? is it the one in your signature? I kind of like that one, even though its not wm6, you have a good reason of keeping it at wm5. Another thing is can I use shelltool to put a custom ROM on my mda? does it work with every ROM? if it does, why doesn't everyone use it? what's the use of CID-unlocking it when shelltool is easier and faster? is there a catch?

My ROM is WM5, based on the old AKU 2.3 (rev 4 is, rev 5 which is gonna be released soon will be the latest WM5 OS build). You should not use shelltools to change to my ROM, since I've got some fixes/updates done by extendedRom, which shelltools doesn't update! Also, WM5SE is G3/G4 safe, so you can use SoftSPL or HardSPL to flash it so its safe for every Wizard PDA. Why doesn't everyone use it? Its the freedom of choise, everyone is free to use whatever ROM satisfy his/her needs. ShellTools takes about 30 minutes to flash. A CID Unlocked device can be flashed using the official RUU upgrading program, that takes about 6 minutes... also its safer.
Just make sure you have read all the stickies on WIzard Upgrading forums, before ever flashing!
You said you took out windows live, where can I download it if I want to put it back on?
IMPORTANT!!!
one last question, do I need to downgrade my SPL to CID unlock my phone? I have a G3 T-mobile MDA runnig the latest t-mobile 2.26 ROM. How can I downgrade to CID unlock my phone? LET ME KNOW ASAP, I'm in a rush....thanks!
YES !
CID unlocking is only possible through 'lokiwiz02b' Tool and it only works in IPL/SPL 1.xx,so to unlock you'll have to downgrade to IPL/SPL 1.xx.To CID unlock read this Sticky :-

Good luck
I got my Vodafone1605 with wm5 installed. Do I lose my warranty(I bought it from Vodafone) if I apply official HTC WM6 upgrade for Hermes?
in a word, no.
Few things you should do first tho.
First off, if you want to use your phone with other network sim cards try unlocking it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Dont CID unlock though, cos that will remove your warranty. Basicly follow the install procedure, but when it asks what you want to do just tick network unlock.
Then you should install Hard SPL v7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Its a very very simple install that will not screw your warranty, but will allow you to install any rom, be it official or a cooked one and will make it much less likely to brick your phone.
You will probably get bored off the official rom really quickly, so its worth looking at a cooked rom, they offer better features, run faster, take up less room and look a lot better.
Heres two I would recommend.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349338
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359458
and keep an eye on this, looks gooood
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363782
One thing you should remember, there is always a risk of ****ing up your phone when upgrading the rom, radio or anything. Hard SPL removes 99.99% of that risk, but there is still always a chance. But there is guides here of what do if anything happens.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
Any other questions have a search on the forum, if you cant find anything ask, someone should help.
Hi,
There are no official software up dates for the V1605 available from Vodafone. If you do decide to change the software to something that isn't supported by Vodafone you will in fact invalidate the warranty.
We have explained this in more detail here.

Funny how my device was replaced under warranty after id flashed it a dozen times, I just installed the original rom again and now one said a thing.
does the hard spl backup the original rom?
no, hardspl allows you install different roms. If you want to revert to the original rom you can. Its on this site.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Its one of the two english vodafone ones....
I found a CD in the phone package and there are windows mobile 5 geniune stickers and eula and stuff like that, can the original rom be there?
Not likely.
so where can I get the original ROM? It's czech vodafone rom
Czech rom doesnt seem to be on this site, it will be around somewhere tho.
I just managed to get the original rom. So, if I flash now, are you absolutely sure that after the "flash the original rom back" thing they won't recognize anything at the repair service?
PLS, quick reply, I'm deciding whether to get a cashback for the SDHC or to keep it

And if I copy THE WHOLE content of the memory card to my HDD, flash some wm6 rom, will it be recognized if I just put those old files back? It won't be like the original, will it?

The contents of your memory card will still be threr after you flash a newer ROM to the device, the memory card isnt changed at all.
I would recommend you take some time to read through the WIKI PAGES on the hermes before continuing with any upgrades.
hi all, i have a trophy with 8107 and with spl 5.12. i wanted to install greek language, succeded but the only problem i currently have is that i need to developer unlock it so that i can install touch explorer or somehow to send the xml for camera settings to the windows folder, cause i dont have camera settings in the greek language.. any help would be gratefull. As far as i see and from the search i'm doing 2 days now, i don't think i can do anything for the device. the only think i didn't try is the goldcard method, cause i don't have the cables. If someone has a stable solution for this, that could save me a lot of time and searching.. thank you.
Even if you downgrade the SPL, you will have to flash an entire rom to gain the features you require. You could attempt interop unlock, but your system and drivers on the phone may be too new.
You might be able to use ansar's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417849
First, you flash his SPL rom, and then flash an old rom from your carrier (if you have the unlocked/unbranded HTC Trophy, this is easy). Then you would install DFT's HSPL.
If you are going to go that far though, I'd recommend building a GoldCard. Try using the new newb friendly method of building a GoldCard. The links to the hardware are US links to parts, but finding the parts in Europe should be easy enough (and you don't need to cut/make cables or do weird things to SD cards).
i have almost the same situations, i have 8107, spl 5.12 and i want to downgrade to 1.x
i'm from portugal and my phone is locked to Vodafone. the only problem is that i discovered that it's Vodafone_ELL so the method of flashing SLSPL, is out of question, i think. what can i do to solve this ? i want to flash 8773 on my trophy and unlock it !
Your solution is to either find an older stock rom from your carrier for your phone, or to use GoldCard to flash the oldest original Trophy rom for Euro unlocked/unbranded Trophy (which will also change your phones MID to the unlocked Euro model). Then you'd manually install any other language packs the phone needs.
And no, I have no clue where to get a rom that'd work on your carrier. If its not in footballs rom thread, I don't know where to look or who to ask. You can get the original Euro unbranded roms there though.
simply just flash an older ROM ?
if it fails to install i can just install the ROM that i have?
The GoldCard method is something that i consider risky, but if it is the best way, i will have to do it !
Can i flash my trophy with this -> Vodafone_ELL, New Branded ROM RUU_Spark_Vodafone_ELL_1.10.162.06_Radio_5.52.09.1 6_22.33a.50.10U_by_ansar ??
You can give it a shot. Worst that can happen is your SPL will fail to downgrade.
Goldcard method is FAR from risky though (just WAS difficult to build manually.. hence that guide I suggested.. its easy following that guide). Its a fantastic way to flush your phone of HSPL and return your phone to true stock for warranty work. It seems to hi-jack some official diagnostic mode from HTC.
In earlier post, instead of MID I meant CID. If your going to use that ELL rom, build a GoldCard and use that instead. This new guide makes it far easier to do and no cutting/building wires and weird hacking tools that are difficult to use. You just buy the parts, plug them together, and format a sd-card with the software in the post! Using this method, you can unbrand your trophy, which will let you use the ELL rom for flashing.

No matter what you do, just try to avoid the Interop Unlock XAP. I installed it few months ago and the phone refused after that to connect to my vodafone network. I had to give it to HTC maintenance to change the whole board.

interop xap? Oh... you had trouble reconnecting to your data... That is fixable with the fixed xap they released afterwards... a custom rom is just so much easier the doing all that manual interop crap.. I really don't understand why so many people do it vs custom roms.
I think its much easier to flash a custom rom via HSPL and have a GoldCard set aside in case to flash a total stock rom in case you need to send the phone in for warranty work. I do see where that is a problem if you don't have a stock rom for your carrier branded phone (unbranded Trophy and the USA Verizon Trophy got it easy vs the misc smaller Euro carriers).
