Upgrade to WM6??? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a Cingular 8525 and it is unlocked and I use T-Mobile service with it. I see that T-mobile has released the WM6 upgrade... http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20070502006572&newsLang=en
My question is should I upgrade using the T-mobile version or should i wait and get the cingular version of WM6? Also, is it worth the trouble to upgrade? Im a pretty heavy user of all the features of the phone.
Also, what software would you recommend me using to backup my programs on my phone if i do upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Rjp20

Anyone??? Can anyone help???

T-Mobile have released a WM6 update, but it's for the Dash - a completely different device to the 8525 you have.

There is a forum devoted to WM6 and Hermes here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=355
I'd try searching that forum, the wiki, etc.

Read through the posts on all the different ROM's, This will lead you to make the decision your looking for in regards to WM6.

Upgrading a t-mobile mda pro with another operator's rom

Is upgrading a t-mobile mda pro with another operator's rom workable? I know it's technically possible but before I risk my expensive toy I'd much rather know if someone has tried it out before, and if so, with which operator's rom??
TIA!!!
I do it all the time, only thing is you have to have your operators mms/gprs/utms settings.

Create a ROM backup before changing to the new one- just in case of any problems or indeed if you had to return the device under warranty.
Is there a rom that's preferable to use? Or are they all the same, hardware support wise?
Please pretty please? I'll settle for knowing which rom you upgraded your tmob mda pro with :-D
And BTW this is my P 100 post
Hi, I have the latest imate rom currently running on my TMobile MDA Pro, it works absolutly fine. TMob do have an AKU2 rom in production, infact it is shipping with newly purchased Pro's but as yet does not seem to be available for existing customers
If you do install the imate rom you can find the GPRS/MMS etc settings you'll need here and full instructions for doing the upgrade can be found in this post over at 4WinMobile.com.

Cingular 8525? Worth it?

Well im back here again after a month or two and soon i will be eligible to upgrade my phone with cingular..
i noticed the 8525 is available now and looks nice... Is the 8525 still considered a wizard? Will all the same apps work? I didnt notice a section specifically for the 8525 so i was just wondering?
thanks
The 8525 is the Hermes aka HTC TyTN.
Both the 8125 and the 8525 are WM5 devices and will run the same software.
For further information, check the Hermes forums
IMO, the 8525 is only worth it if you live in a 3G area.
As soon as 3G comes to where I'm living, I'll be making the upgrade

The upgrade would wipe your current WM6 install and put you back to WM5 I would guess... so not really applicable to you!
Theres a radio upgrade in there. 1.38.30.10
Install it then install wm6 over it.
I still have to sort out what to apply from the extended rom file Telstra_ExtROM_1.31.305.107_JasJam.zip.
It has new services which i guess you have to pay to use, so it is a bit irrelevent and a waste of space, to most.

I have upgraded my Jasjam and it has much better signal quality but I haven't upgraded to WM6 because I was talking to someone from I-mate support and they said that they would be releasing a WM6 upgrade for the Jasjam within the next few months.
Hey guys,
When you upgrade to WM6, do any of you do a registry hack for the Telstra UMTS settings.
This thread on whirlpool talks about it (this is an old update for wm5)
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/664668.html
I am a little worried that using say black 2.0 the band selection is not quite right.

Tethering (PPC to PPC)?

Is it possible to tether my 3G connection from my 8525 to my Universal? This would help me because I live in the US where the 3G doesnt work for the Universal.
Anyone is it possible?
Should be possible with bluetooth. I've done it with my Hermes and a PocketLoox720
The exact process involved depends upon if you are running the original early version of WM5, or a later AKU WM5 or WM6 Rom

Upgrade from Wizard

Hey guys,
Long time reader, first time poster. Today my HTC Wizard (branded: T-Mobile Vario) finally broke down - it had white lines and stuff all over the screen every 2-3 mins and needed reboots before too but now it doesn't even turn on so I called up TM and asked for a upgrade but they said I wasn't allowed until April, I did try my luck and say I can extend contract and stuff but no joy So I ordered my HTC TyTN from expanSYS and looking to get it on Friday.
I have a two questions that I would like to know if anyone can help;
1) How does the TyTN compare to the Wizard?
2) What ROM should I use? (Network: T-Mobile) I want something very lightweight like the Molski.BIZ ROMS for the Wizard
Regards,
Ekin
Hey guys,
My TyTN is arriving tommorow and I've built up a small todo list (CIDUnlock, HardSPL, RadioUpgrade) but I still don't know what clean WM5 ROM to use. Please help me with this
Regards,
Ekin
Read read and read
I think you are talking abt WM6 (not WM5 as posted by you).
Back up your SPL/IPL. save a copy of your original rom/radio in case you need to downgrade and return for warranty (if that is possible)
Also know that whatever you do, you voided your warranty and you assumed all risks. Otherwise good luck and enjoy. Hermes are much faster than wizard with a faster CPU and allows HSDPA connection. (in some cases video conference if you have one that is not cingular 8525). All other features are similiar.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking of using WM5 (the old one) as my friend said WM6 was totally buggy and unstable - I installed it on my Wizard once and I missed alot of calls and stuff like that. If its now stable with no bugs, what ROM do you suggest (something minimalistic)?
Edit: I was looking at Black Dymond, CUSTEL and lvswCE5.2.1413_aku.3_Sleuth255Variant_v1.0

Take a peek here on the procedures for a safe upgrade dude:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
I also have a wizard. Uses Faria WM 6 rom (or variants) and 2.19 Radio
I missed no calls Wizard has issues with their radio but that is another topic all together
WM6 from LVSW is most stable and is as good if not better than OEM roms.
If I am you , I would stick with LVSW, ELF or even Sleuth as they all have a base that is the most stable. Once you know you got a good rom, you can venture out to test others. If you start with a buggy one, then you will be disapointed.

WM6 is as stable as WM5.
As a matter of fact I had more issues with WM5 than I have had with WM6.
Thanks for the replies guys! Keep them coming, right now I'm thinking between Faria's SuperClean WM6 ROM and the lvswCE5.2.1413_aku.3_Sleuth255Variant_v1.0.
Finally decided on Elf v2.1, got my HTC TyTN and flashed it - working fine up to now.
