After watching for months the issues that many have suffered over this problem, I finally found a solution that will fix all the woes.
A few months ago I was one of the many here that upgraded to 1.11 ROM, had the problem. It drove me crazy to the point that I went back to the 1.06 ROM that was rock solid. Well the other day I did a hard reset to have a clean slate. While looking at the Extended ROM I saw the file DefaultV_1.12 in the EXT Rom (Compared 1.11 ROM on FTP to my device). This was the same file that a XDA developer member had modified to somewhat solve the GPRS problem a few months ago.
At this point I had a hypothesis, so I pulled the same file from the older 1.06 ROM which was rock solid and did not have the “Cannot Connect” problem. In this EXT ROM it is named Default_Version_WWE_106150.sa.CAB.
Installed it first on my Blue Angel as a guinea pig, then for the next three hours I would sit there and disconnect and reconnect. I did it manually by holding the red button to disconnect, then I would reconnect to another webpage, then would have a call come in while in the middle of the GPRS session which would suspend it. After done with the phone call I would reconnect manually by clicking connect as well as by just hitting a link on the webpage.
The Results: No “Cannot Connect” problem.
So off I went to my Magician:
Upgraded to 1.11(I have 850 JAM)
Installed Default_Version_WWE_106150.sa.CAB
Put the phone through its paces, I have been disconnecting and reconnecting without a single problem. I receive phone calls that suspend the GPRS session and I am able to reconnect without a problem. Activesync is able to make OTA connections without a hitch.
During my trials I used the same programs:
Which included:
Photo Contacts(newest version)
Activesync
WEBIS Mail 2
xVbar
PocketZenPhone
Regking 2003
As the only variable throughout the trials was Default_Version_WWE_106150.sa.CAB
This is the solution folks.
At least until someone says it does not work.
Installation Steps:
1. Download CAB that I have attached.
2. Copy over to device
3. Install
4. Soft Reset.
1st of all let me say this is a great site for the HTC devices, I found it years ago when i had the first XDA (Wallaby i think) and now i own a O2 Mini.
I have just installed your patch and i'll let you know how it goes.
I wonder if this patch does the same as the "downgrading" of the caller id as detailed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20428
The downgrade has been succesful for blue angel users too.

Many thanks for posting this information.
For a relative newbie like me who has never manually fiddled with ROM files, can you please explain what I actually have to do to "install" the CAB file, i.e. in which directory on the device do I put it, and how do I run it?
- Peter
Once copied over to the device just place it where you can find it using the file explorer. Once located using the file explore simply click on it and it will install on its own. Do a soft reset and enjoy.
Crisscross: The Photo Contact solution that people have found only alleviates the problem a little, not entirely.
In my trials it has solved my problems completly. I wish for other members who try it out to report back as well to see whether all my trials were just a fluke, or our solution.
don't work for me
don't work for me. same problem as before, can't connect due unknown reason.
thanks anyway.
Orcas what is your ROM?

The downgrade of caller-id to an earlier version has also solved the problem totally for me and several other people, both blue-angel and magician users. Thats why I was curious just what your patch did. Seems that it is something similar, you are maybe downgrading more of the rom?
Did you try downgrading of the caller-id first? Not just photo contacts but downgrade to the specified earlier build of caller-id?

Hi there,
Just thought I'd report that I've just installed it. My ExtROM now reports as 1.06.150 WWE.
And... so far, so good!!! I've connected/disconnected to GPRS multiple times, interrupted GPRS with a phone call and then reconnected, have sent files to my device via BT while GPRS is on, and still no problem. It's looking very good!!!
And I'd swear it connects faster than it did previously.
Anyway, I'll keep hammering at it over the weekend and report back on Monday.
Thanks again randomshots!
Well, I'm back already, because I still have the problem. DARN IT!!!!!! :x
The thing that made it happen was that I made a phone call while GPRS was on. When I ended the call and tried to reconnect to GPRS, I got the blasted error. So it seems that receiving a phone call does not cause the error to happen, but making a call does. At least for me.
Oh well, it was worth a try. Back to the drawing board.
Same problem in Hong Kong
I upgraded to ROM v1.11 a few days ago and since then I have the GPRS connection error after 1 or 2 connections. Soft reset will solve the problem. This problem was not encountered at all before the ROM upgrade. It must be the new ROM that mess things up!
As this "default cab" from an old rom seems to solve the problem and also an older version of caller-id solves it there is probably something wrong in the communication between caller-id and some of the customisations from this cab on newer roms. Btw the problem is also in 1.12 roms.
Nice too see that we have two possible solutions here, I will stick to the downgrade of caller-id as it has solved the problem totally for me but it would be interesting to know what the real cause is...
Hi again. Just to answer the previous question to my post: my rom version is 1.12.00 WWE, radio 1.12.00, extrom now says 1.06.150. i think the only thing this cab changes is this rom number, nothing else
orcas
orcas,
I believe you are absolutely right. When the extended rom has finished installing the programs, it runs this .cab file to 'brand' the Magician with the build number. Nothing more or nothing less. But faith can move mountains, as we all know...
I guess some of you know that there is another (older) thread about GPRS problems. If you do not, there is a link below.
Anyway, I finally tried the most recent suggested fix in that thread (downgrading the device's CallerID program to an earlier version) and like a number of others I can happily report that so far, it has fixed my GPRS cannot connect problem. Looking good.
Here is the thread:

Just thought I'd share that the second fix I tried (downgrading CallerID) has continued to work for me. I have no more problems with GPRS. All is well with my Magician. At last.
I flashed my qtek 9100 with the latest 1.6.7 rom and the extended 1.6.7 rom also and let all the cabs in the extended to be installed. The device works like a charm now but I got no MMS Inbox. I have entered all the GPRS settings and intalled the MMS Server settings but no MMS inbox. Anyone else got this problem ?
The mms inbox in part of the extrom installs but I don't know which cab. Sorry can't be more help.

That was what I also thought. But all the cabs in the extended are installed - I even installed them manually afterwards to see If I could get my inbox back.
Ok I think in my O2 Exec the cab that installs the mms inbox is called CAB-Shortcut-O2UK-22Aug05.CAB
I'm not totally sure though! Hope this helps.

Tried that already
Did you do a soft reset after installing that cab? That can sometimes cause problems as WM5 takes a few minutes for settings changes to go from RAM to ROM.

I tried everything, installing all cabs manually and looking in the registry. I gave up and did a re-flash and now it works again
MMS Fixed
I upgraded to the new QTEK ROM - really added some speed. Upgraded the Radio ROM - fixed some goofy no dial issues - but no MMS inbox.
So I re-installed the original ROM tried to copy the MMS related CABs to the extended ROM - got a "couldn't write error". I was very frustrated.
Really wanted the fixes that I got with the ROM - so I kept trying.
Ran the two MMS related CABs with a double tap. BINGO  the MMS inbox was back. The CABs below are in the new extended ROM zip file
-EnableMMSDRM.CAB
-Shorcut-MMS1-Java5xx-CyberonVoice-CV-04Nov05.CAB
I felt fairly goofy myself - simple answer.
Good luck. Still would like a way of writing them to the extended ROM - but this does for me now.
could you send my this files

MMS Files
Don't have to send them - they are on the FTP site. Here is the link:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/HTC_Wizard/
Hope that helps.
thanks of new
i install it, but doesn´t runs
thanks
MAR
As I said, install in this order:
Copy the files in 1 & 2 to your SD card.
Then:
1. Run the file EnableMMSDRM.CAB
2. Run the file Shorcut-MMS1-Java5xx-CyberonVoice-CV-04Nov05.CAB
If you system is running as mine does - the MMS Inbox should appear.
If that doesn't work, do a hard reboot. As you finish the re-setup of your devise, just after the "Skip" option on the password and before the devise does it customization, press reset. This will prevent the loading of the on board extended ROM.
After the soft reset, complete 1 & 2 above.
If that doesn't do it - guess you got a problem larger than my answer.
i do a HR the next week, thanks of new
MMS!!!!
@benlane
Hi I followed your advice through, and after installing both of the cabs I get the mms folder,i left it for 10 mins then preformed a soft reset and it was gone, installed the cabs again and there it was!! lol but as soon as i preform a softrest it"does a runner"
guys any help would be appericaed.
im using the xda minis with orginal o2 rom and if i can avoid using o2 active that would be great!!
Instead of completely skipping the customisation step (where the Extended ROM installs), opt for Corporate Mode instead (code 0506). This installs a minimum subset of the Extended ROM, but DOES include MMS. That's exactly what I've got running on my O2 XDA Mini S and it works just fine (plus there's no nasty O2 Active stuff!)
Mayby its a dumb question, but where's my MMS Inbox?
I've got the new Imate ROM and installed a few T-Mobile NL CABS, al the connection settings are there, even the MMS settings (I checked them with the settings on the T-Mobile site), but I can't send or receive MMS messages. I only see the SMS and Outlook inbox, no MMS Inbox.
I also had that problem, and could only rectify it by hard reset and allow the extended rom to re-install.
i tried installing the cabs manually, tried downloading previous fixes, all to no avail.
you may also find that you cannot create a pop account for simple email, mine always failed on step 4.
alas, i cannot tell you anything else but to hard reset and allow the full rom to install.... sorry.
What extended ROM do you have?
latest released version from imate.
i used the original, then the beta sneaked release, then the current.
the original caused hiccups, but there was a patch, but the patch didnt work on the most recent released version.
Rom 1.30.76
ExtRom 1.30.164
Radio 1.09
Tnx, i'll give it a shot...
Anyone tried this ROM yet? Does it have A2DP? I'm in office now, will try it myself tonight
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip
Thanks for heads up Linux!! It just finished downloading but I'm going to wait to see somebody else flash theirs first. I cross flashed my Dopod 818Pro with the previous AKU2 ROM update from Imate and I could'nt be happier with my device now so I don't want to muck it up until I know for sure!!
Please post tonight if you get a chance!!!!
Cheers,
voyager
I did not see the new ROM on the www.clubimate.com site. What is it supposed to offer? Having just gone though the pain of the last ROM upgrade, I would like to know what the new one offers before flashing.
It is there on clubimate.
and it says:
"Latest Release details:
The main improvements from the original Operating System, are:
Microsoft™ Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP):
Addition of the MSFP allowing Direct Push email, remote device wiping, GPRS data compression, security policy enforcement and integrated Global Address List Lookup for customers using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2. Note that Push email is only supported over GPRS.
Communication Manager
Communications Manager has been updated to allow current data services to be stopped, Direct Push email to be started/stopped using a single button press, and flight mode to be switched on/off."
That's the old one. This thread is about the new ROM that was posted today (or yesterday depending on your timezone):
04/06/2006 12:55PM 57,078,129 JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip
Sorry, my mistake. I thought that the info was for the latest one.
Hey folks,
According to a post over on HoFo this update seems to just fix a few things from the earlier AKU2 ROM upgrade. They did not go into a lot of detail but one the fixes is improved battery management on the SD card. This would make sense to me. I have been running the first AKU2 ROM for the JAMin on my Dopod 818Pro for a week now.....one word, AWESOME dependabilty. The ONLY thing I noticed is that my battery power seemed to slide a bit faster with that ROM update. I think I'll wait though until some can confirm all the changes in this newest ROM offering.
Cheers!!
voyager
It seem to me they just change the radio ROM
No A2DP
I've just installed the ROM, unfortunately there's no A2DP. The battery indicator is also still located on top.
I bought this machine because A2DP was promised as a ROM upgrade. I even sold my O2 Atom and got this phone instead because I've read about the better sound and camera quality, despite the slower processor.
I really think HTC owes many of us out there an explanation for the lack of A2DP :x
Hi guys could anyone upload the file to the ftp of this site please
This rom fixes the slow SIP!! It also allows folder within the inbox to sync via exchange (I can't remember if the previous rom allowed for this or not?)
Iv'e been running this ROM for the last 24 hours and (crossing fingers) no soft reset or hang-up so far. Guess they found some bugs in the not so baked version released two weeks ago...
It's also a tad faster than the previous ROM.
Is it possible to restore all the data from a back up software like spb back up or sprite back up? Because for the first rom update when I try to restore from spb back up the JAMin crashed
im runing this on dopod 818 pro
i installed spb plus, and then reset, when it goes to windows, it just hang there. then i press reset again, it becomes ok...
it's weird, sometimes windows hang after reset.

Yes I am able to do a full restore from spb backup with the backup I've made on the previous imate rom. I think this is due to the fact that the OS rom version is the same as the previous rom, only the ext and radio version is newer
Very good news, I will update soon
ext rom
any idea what this is on the ext rom?
Default_MP_CVSDcpl_20060220
Just upgraded to the new ROM. Much, much snappier. Worth upgrading!
how can i pass the vender id problem??? it´s for an s200.
thanks
Is it unlocked?
I can read and write on \extended_rom with this new rom! Is this normal?
How can i unhide and mount the space? permantley?
After reboot the files are back again
...ok.
I just got a TyTN. On my HTC Universal, there was a MMS console or something...forget what they call it...
But it was flawless and there isn't one on the TyTN from what I can see...
Can someone help me out? It MIGHT be my general non-familiarity of the device so I don't see it...but I don't see any programs or settings that even come close to referencing it...
Thanks...

Select MMS
You have to install the Shortcut-MMS.cab from ExtendedROM.
I for one, didn't install it, cause the whole messanging application (SMS and E-Mail) starts much faster without MMS installed.
At the moment I'm searching for a proper replacement for MMS that's not that lazy.
Missing MMS Menu on HTC TyTn
Hi,
I have the same problem on my HTC TyTn. In fact, MMS menu is missing. I've read the answer but I don't know where I could find shortcut-mms.cab.
Could you help me, please.
Jee
unhide the extendedrom as described in the extrom unlocker thread. then you should find a file *shortcut*mms*.cab in the dir /ExtendedROM
Hi,
Thanx for answering. I've tried what it explained, but nothing happen. My phone coming from SFR (vodaphone). Maybe there is something else to do.
Regards
ROM Version 1.23.163.3
ROM Date: 06/18/06
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocole: 32.53.7018.01W
Me, too, and I think I've got it figured out..
I have most of this problem solved but need one additional piece of info (at bottom); maybe someone can fill that in for me.
I got a new 8525 from Cingular.com the day they came out. The letter 'A' stuck so I had to exchange it for a new one. The first 8525 I had showed the MMS directory just fine but the second one they gave me did not. I'm not aware of any differences in the way I set them up or how this could be, but MMS has been missing from my second 8525 since I first fired it up. Cingular support was no help.
Here's what you need to do to fix it:
(1) You need to unhide the Extended ROM. Info on doing that can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283750
Note that in my situation my phone was already SIM unlocked, and I found that I did not have to CID unlock my device in order to fix this problem. Information on what the difference is between SIM unlock and CID unlock can be found here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SimUnlock
(2) Now, when you open File Explorer, you'll see a new folder listed called "Extended ROM." Open that folder and you'll see a list of .cab files that can install various things for you.
Run the MMS installation .cab file called "MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes" to install the MMS function that somehow got missed in the initial setup. I found that I was not able to install this program to Extended ROM, and I did not try to install it to the storage card, but it installed in my Device memory just fine.
Open up Messaging, and you should now see the MMS folder, unless you soft reset, in which case you have to re-install. In my case, no configuration of the MMS function was needed, and MMS works just fine.
QUESTION: Whenever I soft reset my phone, I lose the MMS function again and have to re-install from the .cab. How do I make MMS a permanent feature of my phone?
I hope this helps folks get at least as far as I've managed and maybe someone else can help finish answering this problem. Thanks in advance.
OK...
Let's say a stupid asshole erased his ext-ROM and is now missing the whole Shortcut-MMS.cab .
Is it possible to flash back only the ext-ROM ?
Can someone send the .cab to the asshole (meaning ME!) ??
Thanks
