HI.. my xda2 bottom outlet/socket/chargersocket is broken. and the repair store said they cant fix it anymore because the connector w/ the mainboard is also broken.
i have 2003SE and thank goodness i stil have a backup of my xda in spritebackup. so everytime my xda reformats, i just restore it.
but my problem is, i only have few programs/games installed. and i want to install more. can i still install more? what do i have to do? can i still install wm2005?
thanks..
you cant install a new rom without activesync i believe
but you can install programs
just copy the cab files to a sd card and run them from there
most activesync install programs from windows can be renamed to zip and opend and then you can copy out the cab files

hey guys...
ok ive had few problems actually experimenting too many things kicks off the rom OBVIOUSLY...i would like to do something like this....
1.my xda II hard resets it self for obvious reasons (too many experiments)
2.there are too many programs installed on my xda II which i use most of the time, few of them are cab so its easy for me to copy them to storage card and install but many others are .exe so everytime a hard reset i have to connect the xda II to the cradle and run the software from the computer....
what i would like to do is just convert or extract .cab from .exe so that everytime i dont have to go through the same thing....this means i can also copy all my softwares as backup on my xda II storage
P.S : there are only few .exe softwares that allow me to extract .cab from it by right clicking and going to winzip option or winrar .....most of them are to be run all over again.
please help
thanks alot in advance
if it's exe which you run from the pc and it using activesync to install the program in most cases all you need to do is to chage the extention from exe to zip and copy out the cab from inside the zip file
otherwise you need an cab maker program search should give you a bunch

An alternative method (slightly long winded but reliable)...
Install the product on the device then install it again, when the "Reinstall Y/N?" dialog appears on the device perform a soft reset. If installing to Storage or Storage Card, the CAB will be in the root of that device, if installing to Main Memory you will find it in \windows\appmgr\install

Yes, you have to wait for the CAB file to be copied over to teh device and then it says "Reinstall Y/N?" on the device, then you do the soft reset.
If you are going to use CAB files I would strongly recommend you grab a copy of CABInst as well, it is excellent (and free).

This work in my Imate Jam
i don't know
this work in your device
but this cool
the Imate Jam autodelete .cab files when finish the install this
enjoy....

excellent (Y)
in paticular i want the cab file for MorphGear. how do i do this? I have tried using cabinst but that doesnt seem to do anything
Some ".exe" are extractable with a soft such as "Winrar"
if that doesn't work then try the following.
1. Remove app from you computer and device
2. Disconnect device from comp
3. Run exe for app
4. When you see the message "this app will be installed on next sync" go to start---search
5. look for *.cab that was created or modified today and is less than 1MB (change file size to whatever value you think is appropriate)
Problem is..
I cant get activesync to work, hence needing the cab file to install morphgear :-(
So I dont think that will work
Any other ideas?

Can you install Activesync tho, dont have to sync just get it to install. If you can than run the morphgear.exe and after it says it will install on the next sync, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Activesync\ and you will see a Marat folder, the .cab is in there. It will almost always make a new folder and put the .cab of the program you are install into the Activesync folder, if it is not there than it created its own folder under Program Files and the .cab should be in there.
Just because im bored I downloaded this MorphGear.exe
http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/155967-7256/MaratSetupPPC2003.exe
And have attached the .cab that was put into my ActiveSync folder for you.
wow thanks that was very nice of you!
i checked that folder and there was about 10 different morphgear files that id been messing about with! And they worked! Well chuffed i am
Is anyone playing gameboy games on it? On the website listed in the first post the module (MaratSetupPPC2003.exe) leads to an invalid link. But i found it on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=904167&postcount=5 i installed it but it only wants to see snes roms

You can use My Mobiler.
With this program, you can display your PPC screen on your PC, and simply drag and drop CAB-files to your PPC. Don't forget to delete CAB-files after install, cause they are copied to \My Documents folder.
Why aren't you using the Windows Mobile Device Center from Microsoft? It's the Vista replacement for ActiveSync and supports all of it's old features and more.
Just drag n drop the CAB's to your device and install as normal...
Thanks for replying but it will be the same..i have to go delete once again the installed cab files n more over the cab files will be installed to the default installation directory even though there r programs to change the destination to storage card..the procedure is hecktic n tiresome
Depends on your target device really. In WM6 on my Kaiser, the device asks where I want the program to be installed to. And the file not auto-deleting afterwards is just a registry setting.

Then try to find the programs that have exe files and run them from your computer. This will be a lot easier to accomplish.
I understand what you mean... i used to install CAB files directly from my PC, i just connect my phone to my pc and i double click cab files in my pc and it install to my phone BUT unfortunately I formatted my PC and I cant find the CAB installer again.. i think i found it in HERMES forum, until now im searching but without luck!
Is there any program that creates a setup.exe file from a .cab file that works on vista?
When i had my pc with Windows XP i used PocketSetupCreator but unfortunaly it doesnt works on Vista!

cabviaactivesync does the trick

As mentioned before, you can set .cab files to auto-delete after install, with that set, use MyMobiler to drag and drop the file, and your done.

Pefect, I didn't realise this had been fixed. I had problems getting it to work on Vista the last few times I tried it. This is a great time saver for when I just need to install something quickly .
hi guys..
seems like a n00b question..i know
but i downloaded some cool apps from handango which are made for Xperia..but i was unable to install them.
do i need to use Activesync for such files?...and if yes..i also tried to install activesync 4.5 but it says 'not for Vista'
any tips?
exe files can be
1. pda exe's which is not install files but the program itself
which you yourself have to copy to where ever you want it
and make a shortcut in programs yourself
2. windows exe's which use activesync on xp and Windows Mobile Device Center on vista
to copy the cabs to the pda and auto install them
in many cases those exe files are self-extracting zip files and one can just rename them zip and copy out the cab files one needs typically the arm one
thanks..i installed Windows Mobile Device center on my vista..connected X1 via USB and done!
hi.. i download a few program for my nike.. all in winzip files.. so how i want to install to my nike? using sync? memory card? tq..
The files inside the zip's should be cabs - extract these, stick them on your SD Card & put back in the phone, browse to the file with File Explorer & just click the file & hopefully it should launch. Some cabs require a reboot after installation so don't be surprised if it asks you to do i
thanks bro.. find some zip file contains exe icon.. but some zip files does't support by winzip.. so cant open it..
.cab - should be open on PPC
.exe - on Desktop (sometimes on PPC)
