HKLM\init registry keys - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I would like for my application to start upon boot up and MSDN claims that if you add the application as a LaunchXX item in the HKLM\Init keys of the Windows Mobile registry that it will launch the app at startup. The trouble is that I properly add the key and when I reset the device (using the reset button with stylus) that my application is not started and is not listed under the process list, but if I reset a 2nd time my application is started at boot up. I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens, why it takes 2 resets for my application to get launched at boot up, and how I may fix this situation?
Thanks,

Settings not working in start menu

Hi,
Selecting my settings option from the start menu hangs my phone. All other options (programs etc are working).
Interestingly when I tried to setup an icon in iLauncher for say my today icon it just hangs too.
I am assuming the settings folder must have got deleted/corrupted somehow.
Any ideas?
Regards
I would suggest a hard reset. Anything you do to fix the problem will not guarantee that everything works properly. Many softwares use the settings programs and/or links.
Hard reset completed and appears to be working fine. Time will tell if it was Vito Button mapper or the registry entries I did which messed it up.

Registry edits get reverted after reset

Does anybody know why this happens:
Whenever I change registry (for example HKCU\Control Panel\SIP\..), after reboot it gets reverted to original value.
I used Total Commnader. Roms I tried: 2.17 (qtek) and 2.24 (cingular).
Help appreciated.
Thanks.
after changing your registry, be sure to save the changes by a soft reset. To do this, do NOT poke the reset hole with your stylus, but rather shut the device down with the on/off button. Hold it for 5 secs untill the warning pops up. By resetting this way, your device uses the 5 secs untill the screen pops-up to write the registry to the ROM. If you soft reset immediately with your stylus after chaning the registry, the device has not enough time to write the changes to the ROM. Therefore, after a quick soft reset with your stylus changes might not be saved and the registry remains unchanged.
Problems with Registry settings
I also have problems with Registry settings. For instance some values seems to change back after a turn off/on (power button). Does anyone have a good doc/link that explains which Registry settings that actually can be changed by CAB-files and stay changed ?
Just to mention - on an SP5 (sorry for this in Wizard/K-JAM) I had a CAB-file that changed the Contacts soft-button into starting a 3rd party application. This only changed when an incomming call/phone application was started..a little confused about that

Launching an app at boot time and HKLM\init keys

This is strange.
There are two things you need to know about the KaunchXX regs:
1) Any app you put there must be signed or at least authorized by user.
Did you by any chance run the exe between the two resets and clicked 'Yes' when the OS asked if you trust the file?
2) You should watch the launch order (the number that replaces XX) and also add a DependXX key to match LaunchXX. This will insure the OS does not accidentally attempt to start your app before device.exe or gwes.exe are fully loaded causing your app to crash.
VDiDDY:
By using the stylus for restarting.. the registry is not always flushed correctly...this could mean that information is lost.. or not set correctly .. i had some trouble with this earlier loosing information .. Have you tried restarting the device by holding down the power key and choosing turn off?
And if this reg-change is done using code.. you could use i.e. ExitWindowsEx to reset... or you could remember to use RegFlush ..
One last advice.. you need to use the api SignalStarted with the index your app is.. LaunchXX -> SignalStarted(XX) .. so other depending exe's are signalled that they can start... or something like that

Registry changes not sticking...

Hi guys, I've tried editing my registry with regards to the A2DP issue with several softwares. Unfortunately, after rebooting the Trin (reset @ bottom of device), all changes I make seem to have disappeared.
I've used both Total commander and PHM as registry editor on the device itself and MobileRegistryEditor as a remote registry editor.
With the onboard reg editors I can make keys and add values but after reboot the entries have gone.
With the remote reg editor I can browse the reg without problems but get an access denied message when I attempt to edit anything...
For some reason or other I was able to add a MinSupportedBitPool setting one time. Don't know what was different that time around though.
Deleting keys also works as they stay gone once deleted.
It's just adding the keys that is making me go mad!!!

Thx ww2250, I didn't know this...
I had discovered meanwhile that if I used the reset option in the Trinityhacks app, I could make the changes stick, so this soft reset would be similar to holding down the power button apparantly.
Thx again
Yes indeed if you are doing a software reset, it will stick - the OS will flush the registry before restarting.

Messed up my screen with registry hack! HELP!

OK! I was trying to get TF3D 0.6.7 to work and it was giving me an error. There are 2 fixes posted by the author. I tried the first one with no luck, the second one worked great!
The first one is to go to HKLM/Driver/Touchpanel and make a new Dword.
For reasons I cannot explain I did not think to back up my registry! Now, the touch screen won't work except for the task manager arrow. Nothing else no matter how hard I push or with what.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it or does can someone possibly make an exacutable registry key I can launch or install some how? I thought you could use PHM from the desktop as well. Any registry editors that will work through active sync on the PC? If so, what is the value supposed to be and what kind of key is it supposed to be? Thanks in advance.
soft reset?
have you tried a soft reset?
If everything else fail, you should maybe just re-flash your phone.
Before flashing try to hard reset.
Press and hold VOL.DOWN Button & ENTER Button
And while holding press the soft reset button (under the stylus)
When a message appears on your screen u can release the
Volume down button and enter button.
Use "Mobile Registry Editor" to change the setting back while the device is recognized by ActiveSync. (You can hit Cancel on the ActiveSync pops and it will let you use the device in Guest mode)
You can also use some remote control utility like MyMobiler or EveryWAN to use the device through the computer.
MyMobiler should definitely help. Try it out..
Regards,
Carty..
