Windows Media doesn't read my card - P3600 General

Hi,
I have a Kingston MiniSD 2 gb, which is found by my device (under file explorer etc.).
I can play music without any problem, but I need to select it through the file explorer. They aren't found in Windows Media.
I synchronised my device with windows media player on my pc with 400 songs or something.
I saw all songs in the library, but when I opened Windows Media on my device again (after a soft reset), everything dissapeared.
I searched for new music, Windows Media found my 400 songs, then it was adding all the found songs.. guess what: only 8 songs found, these "songs" are wav files, located on the device itself. (So none of the songs I synchronised were found)
So I reinsterted my minisd and then Windows Media said it found a storage card, "Do I need to search for music?" I click yes and the cycle goes all over again..
He finds my songs, but doesn't add them.
When I click on Menu => Library, I can only choose for "My Device", so it says nothing about a storage card..
I'm using the following rom:
mUn_1.25.TE_AKU3.5.2_WWE
If I synchronise another song, the problem stays..
Anyone knows a solution to this?

Sorry I can't help with a solution but I can report that I am having this problem very often with the new HTC ROM. It happened once or twice in several months when I was on the old ROM but after the upgrade to the GPS-enabled ROM the Sandisk 2GB miniSD keeps disappearing from Windows Media player.
A temporary fix is to connect the phone via ActiveSync and delete the two hidden folders in the root of the card (MSMETADATA and WMDRM). This will allow the files to be added to the WM library again.

I had similar problem before, but worse, I couldn't add any file at all. Your method did solve the problem.
One more point to note: You could delete those two folders in File Explorer of the device. ActiveSync is not a must. Click Menu and check Show All Files.

That might be an issue with the 4GB card itself.

I had very similar problems and posted on the frum before.

Real HELPFUL...
I do want to thank you all since this thread resolved the "No-Adding-Files-Problem" I had for a long time now. I was helpless (didin't found this thread before :-() and had to format my 4GB SD card twice. What a moron! Therefore thank you very much.

I have just experienced a similar issue on the 3rd day of owning my brand new Trinity. Tried to play some music on my 2GB MiniSD and there was no option for STORAGE CARD in the library. I updated the library a zillion times, but after successfully FINDING quite normally the 190 files the the process would get stuck as it tried to ADD them, and I got nowhere. I ejected the card then put it back in. I tried a few OFF/ONs, then a SOFT RESET, then a HARD RESET, all to no avail. After reading this thread I deleted the MSMETADATA file as suggested and then updated the library - and whaddaya know - works fine (for now)!

Media library Version

I recently purchased trinity, i synchronised it with mp3-wma from my pc, everything was OK, until the following day when i tried to listen to some music and a message appeared on wmp:"media library version is not compatible", moreover i could not access the minisd card from wmp. I tried to open an audio(wma) using file explorer and it worked. I searched over the net and i found that others face the same problem(www.htcwiki.com i don't remember the exact link). To cut it short i discovered that by deleting file "wmpinfo" the problem resolves. I sent an email to htc asking them whether they are aware of the problem or not and if a rom update is scheduled. They replied that the are unaware of the problem and that no rom updates are to come any time soon.
So, because that "media library problem" reappeared (and was resolved as described above) does anyone know a way to fix this permanently? (cause it is irritating)

I do not have this kind of problem. Maybe you should update the windows media player on you PC to the newest version (wmp11)? In my opinion it would be a microsoft problem anyway.
i already use wmp11, the last 4 days the problem did not appear! i hope it will never appears again
Just now I got the same problem, can't find any songs on mini sd from the media player but it works fine from the file explorer. I tried with restarts and taking the sd out and put it back but nothing helps. Does someone know why this happens and how to solve it?

Many Mini SD Card Problems only happen with no name SD Cards. What brand you have?
Hi,
I have a "SanDisk Ultra 1GB"
/magnus
I juust thought that I might add that it's only problems with media player, all programs installed on the sd works fine.
/magnus
delete the file wmpinfo from both memery card and the device, soft-reset the device and the problem will be fixed. I send an email tou htc about the problem and they told me the following:
We have looked into your problem concerning the SD mini card and your HTC P3600 mobile phone.
Please can you try the following:
1. Delete everything from SD card, so format it.
2. Un-install ActivSync
3. Go into c:/program files/Microsoft ActivSync on pc and delete that folder
This should fix the issue.
i have a transcend mini-sd 1gb
I deleted the MSMETADATA folder and the problem was solved for now.
Thanks!
Magnus
It works!
Thanks for the advice chaps. I was having the same problem with not being able to add music on the SD card to the library. After deleting the WMPINFO file and the MSMETADATA folder and rebooting, it now works fine!

media player problem with storage card

right ... got the xda mini which i think is a varient of the wizard ... ive read around this part and couldnt find anything related to my problem ..
basically up till last friday i could add media from my storage card to my library on windows media player ... fine
now it only sees what is in the phone memory .. unless i go into play file and open the file manually .. then i can play from the card there is no option to even go to the storage card like there used to be when you click on library only allows me to go to my device ..
when i try to add songs it comes up with 42 files found ... then another screen says 9 files sucessfully added click done ...
doing my tits in cause i use my xda to listen to music while in uni
any ideas ... tried soft reset and battery out .. usually solves most things but not this also tired reformatting the card to no avail
So the card is detecting in file explorer but not in WMP? Need to get that straight first.
I know the card slot can be really fussy in detecting cards sometimes and you need to insert it several times.
You will have two separate libraries, one for the storage card and one for the device memory.
In the library you have to select menu > library > storage card before updating the storage card library...
yes i can see it in file explorer
wmp will play the file if i go menu>library>menu>open file i can then open files on the memory card ...
changing the library from my device to storage card cant be done as the card doesnt appear there any more ... it did till friday ... i changed nothing ... it just stopped appearing
like i say when i update library the library sees all 40 tracks ... but only adds the ones on the phone to the library
Change your miniSD pal.

Hey Pal. I had the same issue, why dont you try with a friend's card. I bought a 1 GB Kingston Card and it works just perfect.
Well, the only thing I can suggest is deleting the library files manually from the card and the phone (.mlb files) and try again. Otherwise back up everything anf reflash with the original ROM.
Have the same issue on my TyTN.
Storage card works flawlessly but media player library only shows "My Device" in its selection drop-down, so the Storage Card cannot be selected.
When the card is inserted media player will look for and add files, but still the card doesn't appear in the drop-down.
After hard-reset it worked correctly for a very short while, but now the only way to get to the files is to open them manually with Menu -> Open File...
=== later edit ====
1) I deleted all *.mlb files (just one, in fact, in phone memory)
2) I deleted MSMETADATA dir from card
3) started media player and updated library, the storage card it's showing now . Don't know for how long, though. (until first sync?)

Windows Media Player and Storage Carge Problem??

Can anyone out there help please.
I have been happily using a 4gb card in my Trinity for the last month, storing most of my program files and all my music on the card.
I just had to resetup my Trinity. I deleted all the program files but left the music on the card alone.
Windows Media Plaey now no longer sees the card and wont update the library from it. it seems to count the music files when searching, just doesnt add them.
There are no software conflicts, i am using the same software as before this fault happened, you can still play individual media files from the card by opening the file from file explorer or media player.
Anyone any ideas please??
Delete the MSMETADATA and WMDRM folders and update the library.
I'm afraid thats not the answer, there's no file there to delete. I've used that one in the past for other probs on other devices.
Media player just doesnt see the storage card anymore, even though it did in the past.
Thanks anyway.
Problem sorted!!
1) Put card in reader in PC to delete the msme file
2)backed up all info on card to pc
3)reformetted card in PDA using poccket mechanic
4)reinserted card into pc and copied all files over again
5)soft reset PDA
Well you could have deleted the directories from Trinity as well, just check Show all Files (those directories are hidden) and then delete them.
Well I'm having the same problem. It CAN read files from the storage card. If there are nog WMDRM & MSMETADATA folders it CAN update the library. But if I listen for a few hours, put off the phone and put it back on it will not read the 'Storage Card' library.. If I select update library it just stops responding..
The only thing I can do is Soft reset, it will recognize the library again.. But I don't like having to soft reset :S
Quick reply to darkilici -
I had tried that one as well. The problem lay on the card.
Since my fix - I've had no probs so far.
Seems to be a lot of people having weird roubles with 4bg cards out there.
Dave,
this is not just limited to 4gb cards.
I have a 2gb installed with same issues described above.
Resolved (as Apoc described) by deleting the MSMETADATA and WMDRM folders.

I think I have the solution...Win Media Player sucks, use Mortplayer and TCPMP player then forget all the missing file problems.

WMP Library files from SD Card

Hey All,
I've got a ton of media files on my SD card that will all play using WMP, But for some reason when I try to add them to the WMP library it won't add them. When I use the update library feature it finds all the files, but when it says adding files to library it only adds the files saved on the device and not the sd card. When going to library and selecting storage card as source and then clicking on music or videos I get an error message that says "Windows Media, An unexpected error occurred". Does anybody know of o fix or has had this problem. Any help is appreciated.
I dont have this issue. one question is what size memory card. has it ever worked in the touch? does it work in any other device?
it may be a problem of the card.
Try moving the files to a subdirectory on the SD..eg.: /Storage Card/Music/*
Right now the files are in the my documents\my music folder on the storage card. I hadn't tried it with my old sd card because with the 512 card was large enough to bother. I can play all the files if I select them with open file, I can even play the whole folder if I select it. It even puts up the album art on the screen. It just won't let me add them to the library.
Thanks for everyones suggestions. I was able to fix it by deleting the MSMETADATA and the WMRDM folders from the storage card and this fixed it. I got the answer from sprintusers forum but the guy that posted it said he ound the fix here. So thanks to those on this forum also.

And me, great find

media player problem reading memory card

my windows media player won't add files from my memory card. when I try searching for files it finds a very large number of files but when it starts adding them it hangs then gives up. I prefer using the windows media player since I can use it with the htc home plug in as well as the ability to still listen while in standby mode.
any suggestions?
This is a common problem, find the folder MSMETADATA on your SDCARD and delete it then media player should rebuild the library correctly.
^cool, thanks that worked!

I've used that fix a number of times but now it doesn't work...
I've now flashed a new Rom Schaps 4.3 and formatted my SD Card. Still no luck!!!! Argggghhhh....
The card shows up in the camera app as well as file explorer, however both media players don't recognise it.....
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.....
Thanks
