is there any tweaks that can cause your 8125/wizard browse faster on the net, using your home wifi?
Not that I'm aware of, however you can get browsers that run faster then IE. For me, Opera is much faster at web browsing then IE. Just my thoughts!
Check out the XDA-Wiki, WM5 Tweaks. I've been playing around with this and recently found that disabling the browser cache entirely made a big difference in speed. Still not like a desktop, but much better.
Regards,
Alright, thanks.
I'll try out Opera. I have Minimo, and that is quicker than IE, but I will see what opera does for me. :]

today at the university I tried out the wlan capabilitys of my device and it was a great experience sitting in the cafeteria and surfing at some news sites with that little fellow when all the others used big laptops occupying all their tablespace
I used the internet explorer first and then tried out the mozilla minimo browser. IE was "ok" and minimo just sucked with the handling and speed. I also know there's an opera version but I never tried it online. any other good browsers out there? any favs?
A lot of people seem to agree that Opera 8.6 is a really good browser. It's not free though. You get a 30 day trial, but after that you must pay for it. It's 24USD I beleive.
Try Thunderhawk. http://www.bitstream.com/wireless/
I've been using Thunderhawk ( http://www.bitstream.com/wireless/index.html ) with great success. I absolutely love it. They route all traffic through their servers and software so you end up with the web page designed for your desktop rendered nearly perfectly on your Pocket PC.
The methods they use reduce all graphics to a size managable by our devices without any drop in quality. Pages load extremely fast and I'm just using my T-Mobile internet connection. Between it and IE, just isn't even a contest.
I have not used Opera though, so I can't comment on it. But I highly reccomend trying Thunderhawk.
I don't have the Screenshot program installed on my device, but here are a couple of pics I snapped so that you can see the layout. First is DrudeReport.com and I'm sure you're familiar with the second.
B**tard! You beat me to it!
but thunderhawk is not free!
I use PIEPlus, which is very nice.
Thanks guys I will check out both, thunderhawk and pieplus. But actually pieplus doesn't seem to be free either.
Let me extend my question at this point
Which cool and usefull internetrelated software do you use on your wizard?
Also give Netfront 3.3 a trial though it is not free.
I am using it and am very satisfied with it. Specially if you surf the web with a fast WiFi connection then sites with flash animations really turn out great. It is the only WM5 browser with flash support.
Regards
Opera 8.6.
I used others but this one allowed me to run java scripts that PIE couldn't.
I can use it on my banking sites and other secured sites that other have had trouble or simply don't work.
It is worth the money. IMO.
thunderhawk vs Opera? Anybody?
Opera Mini 2.0
It's a Java App. and it's free.
Go to mini.opera.com on PIE and download and install.
To me it has the fastest and best performance when compared to native WM browsers. I use it daily... the only time I don't use it is when I want to look at an animated radar image. That is about the only limitation to Opera Mini... no animated images. You can still download files, and save images from it. 8)
To be honest I have stuck with PIE. Opera does format a little better but considering you now have to pay for it I will stick with PIE.
I Just Flashed a new ROM to my wizard (TNT 19213) and decided to investigate getting a new web browser to replace internet explorer. Does anyone recommend one over another? Also, how do you load them onto your wizard?
You could try Minimo. It's a mobile browser based on Mozilla.
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
They have an exe install you run from your pc or a cab install you can copy to your phone to install from.
opera mini.
Opera mini, no doubt about it
Access NetFront Browser is free, and works similar to the much lauded SkyFire browser (also awesome, but in a closed beta test cycle that seems to be never-ending). The thing that sets these apart from the remaining browsers is that they are full-feature browsers, that show the internet as it would look on your desktop. In my opinion, Skyfire is superior at rendering sites true to their appearance on desktop browsers. NF browser is a little behind, and has a hard time substituting fonts, for example. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both browsers, as with anything. The main disadvantage to both of these is that you either need a wifi connection, or an unlimited data plan, or you're going to rack up a bill quickly, downloading full web sites.
For mobile browsers, there's Mozilla's Minimo, which is nice, and opera mini, which seems to be favored on this bulletin board site, and Microsoft-backed Zumobi (also in beta testing), all of which have nice features, but won't be the "best" for everyone. Keep in mind they are all mobile browsers, which means things like flash, javascript, and other web 2.0 features might not display properly, or might not work at all. All are much easier on the data plan than the full browsers mentioned above, but that means degraded websites only. Frankly, I just use the IE browser when I'm away from a hot-spot. I'm just more selective about what I surf to...
One last thing I almost forgot: All these browsers are free, but there is a pay-for version of Opera that is supposed to be superior to Mini. Opera Mini also requires the use of the MIDlet Manager or some other Java Emulator, making single-click launching much more complicated than necessary.
tried minimo but also like opera mini best,
you will need some java support for running it on your wizard.
i am using esmertecs.
someone on the developement and hacking made a cab instalation of the new opera mini browser that installs java emulator + opera mini and works best. has a dirrect shortcut in the programs folder and loads web pages extremely quickly over gprs.
I havent tried any of the "betas" floating around. Opera mobile is awesome too, but loads pages slower. works best with wifi.

Thats exactly what I was looking for because the cab files are much easier to deal with, do you know where I can download this program?
Hi does anyone have any tips on speeding up web browsing on the touch hd??
Im experiencing VERRYYY slow webpage loading on opera browser...
I have a 20meg broadband connection and is no quicker at loading pages on 3g or wifi!! My girlfriend has a omnia and webpages load instantly!!!
Is there a better program for web browsing? ive tried i explorer. still the same.
many thanks for any tips or info.
kindly search for f**ks sake. its only the hundreth post about this....
Noticed the same. Omnia seems to be faster renderung the webpage. But HD resolution is higher. Even my diamond is faster.
*Try the cache optimising tweak to improve performance if not already done.
*Type Opera:config into your url then set mininum overview zoom to 85%. This does not speed up Opera but allows you to click on links without zooming so in a sense does speed up your browsing experience.
RE: Slow opera browserArrow
well, maybe because your browser and windows system are not compatible, you'd better change your browser or maybe youcan try the software tuneup360, which can help you solve all the computer problems.
its easily faster than opera... runs pretty smooth and i actually enjoy the small scrolling screen they got from the netfront browser as well.

its faster over wifi but I don't think it's as quick over gprs.
Its definitely getting better each release though.
I still use netfronts' simple browsing for things like forums, nothing is a quick as that one..

UCWEB6 flies! It's basic html only though. I use it for very basic functions like really quick google searches, spelling corrections, eBay etc.
Tried it a long time ago and didn't like it...
Its page displaying seems to be slower than opera

Try again, they update quite often. I use it sometimes since it can display anything. It has perfect javascript functionality.
I use Opera Mini for common browsing, but when I find a page it has troubles with, Opera Mobile usually has problems too.
Still Opera Mobile is best adapted to screen size and touch controls. Give me Opera Mobile with compatibility of Iris and I will be happy.

Just did. I still don't like it . It feels uncomfortable to work with, and has much less options than the Opera. I keep it installed though, along with other browsers, in case my Opera brakes down hehe.
right now, Iris is only great for Iphone optimized sites... for everything else, Opera is the way to go.

i think you should give ucweb a try. its tiny and it does not require JAVA and its much more funtional than opera mini
its a really good secondary (when on EDGE or 3G) efficient browser.
good 4-min video review http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=7232
It is a very good browser, and a fast one. It definitely renders HTML better than Opera Mobile 9.5. It works very good with X1.
My only concern is that when I double tap a page, the zoom is not to 100%, but less. I mean the image I see after a double tap is smaller than if I choose zoom to 100%. Anyone having the same issue?
I use Iris for few months and must say - it's getting better and better. Still it's not a perfect browser - but show me one that is. I'm waiting for update which can allow to watch youtube movies directly from pages like www.pocketnow.com etc. Now for those pages I use Skyfire.
Does it have embedded Flash support, like on desktop browser? Any news on such upcoming feature?

How do I make YouTube work?
YouTube's standard desktop version requires Flash 9 or above. This is not available for Windows Mobile. If you leave the browser in Mobile Mode (Page->View->Mobile Mode in the menu), you can visit YouTube and will be redirected to the mobile edition. If you happen to have the FlashLite 3 ActiveX control installed, Iris Browser will automatically use it and videos should work.
For youtube.com I use Zenyee application. More usefull would be possibility of playing implanted movies on sites. This is possible for now with Skyfire and Mach5 I suppose.
Two weeks ago I was using the Nokia N900 for at least a month and was able to test browser over my GPRS connection by rigorously testing it on heavy flash sites
Being a GPRS connection, I expected a slow loading of the pages but the content was displayed perfectly well after a few minutes. Last week I bought myself the HD2 and since then been testing IE6 and Opera over the same GPRS connection, but sadly most of the sites complain of upgrading to the newer Flash plug-in, which is not possible at the moment.
Today I decided to install Skyfire 1.5 and to my shocking surprise every page that I had visited on the N900 loaded 4x faster and even the heavy flash sites loaded on the fly.
The core site that I concentrated was 2advanced.com
Load this on SkyFire and see at what blazing speeds the Flash loader gets filled and the beautiful flash UI is displayed.
Await to hear your comments and views.
I love it too. Very quick and I can access mesh.com which is programmed in silverlight. I just wish it had autorotate and pinch2zoom.

It does have autorotate, and pinch2zoom you can enable it by running BsB Tweaks 1.5 and adding the app into the Pinch to Zoom tweak section.
Skyfire is good but it eats your battery when viewing media content!
Is it a matter of licensing or technology that Opera has problem running flash sites?

I faced a similar problem with Fennec on the N900. I guess its a general issue of draining battery while viewing Flash/Media content via a Web Browser
i dont like it..i tried for half hour a couple of weeks ago...its strange i dont remember what i didnt like but i remember that i thought "take too many initiatives"

I know! I just meant that it wasn't standard to the software. You have to take additional steps to activate those features.
Skyfire is my browser for flash content. That's all. For casual browsing, Opera is faster, and a lot more comfortable.
Skyfire may be the best mobile browser when it comes to flash, but, for everything else, Opera/Safari/Chrome are far ahead. You should include "Flash" somewhere in the title of this topic.
loving the new skyfire update, a huge leap from what it was..

Completely agree, Opera fulfills nearly all my needs, and I occasionally use Skyfire for flash stuff (other than youTube, which I prefer the dedicated app for).
