Hi!
I have a problem with mapping hard button #4 on my universal.
In Settings -> Buttons, I have Button 4 Press mapped to Voice Speed Dial,
and Button 4 Press & Hold mapped to Voice Recorder. But when I press
this button, always Voice Recorder will start - even if I tab this button for a short time,
or when I hold this button for 5-10 seconds... Always Voice Recorder
will run...
I have tried to change this mapping to other commands, but always taping this
button will start the command from Button 4 Press & Hold assigment...
Indeed you are right. This problem persisted even in the Helmi WM5 aku3.5 ROMs.
same problem here
The only solution I applied was using another application to assign the button presses to launch different applications. I use AE Button Plus: http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=21070
But first I renamed "Button 4" to be "Press and Hold", and renamed "Press and Hold" to be "Button 4", since this is the button that is able to launch applications. I then use AE Button Plus to map the button assignments. There is also a freeware button mapper called PQZ: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/ Some say, PQZ is better, but I have not tried it myself, so I can't comment.
I have founded that problem is with MS Voice Command.
Before installing MS Voice Command, I was able to asign commands
to "press" and "press & hold" mapping. After installing MS Voice Command,
only to "press & hold" (works like simple "press")... Unfortunately,
uninstalling MS Voice Command didn't solve problem... But registry restore
from backup fixed that issue !!
So this problem seats in registry after installing MS Vocie Command...
Have anyone some idea what key couses that problem?
Maybe I will try to find solution, but I need an apliaction that can
check all modification in registry after installing some software...
Does anyone knows such software?

SKTracker does exactly that quite convenient (14 days trial).
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktracker/m_feat.html
Basically you could as well diff two registry exports, with VoiceCommand and after your restore.
(For this you may want to look at s-k-tools freeware as well...)
You can use SSNAP utility (from SK too) instead of sktracker. It does snapshots the register and keeps them in a plain txt-file. Then it is possible to compare two snapshots by using IDIFF utility (from SK too) on your PPC or by using fc.exe on your windows desktop computer.
You can find the above described utilities here http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_util.html

hi just installed the fonix voice dial anyway was wondering if anyone has figured out how to remap it to a diff hardware button, it seems it has been hard coded to the voicerecord button. I currently have this button mapped for HandyLauncher but each time I press the button VoiceDial Launches... even if I have the Button mapped to Handy Launcher Voicedial is the app that is launched. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Hi,
The way I've done it before is use a registry editor and then search for "voicedial.exe" (without the quotes)
I believe it'll end up in something like:
Local Machine\Software\OEM\VoiceDial (or VoiceCommand?)
Simply delete the VoiceDial (or VoiceCommand?) section it self and that's literally all you need to do.
As always backup your device before editing the Windows Registry etc etc etc.
Works for me though and I've done it about 25 times (I hard reset a lot!)
Thanks a lot
Have the same problem on my Qtek 9090, Fonix has taken over my record button. However, if I press nad hold the button for 1/2 a second, it works fine. Give it a try - much better than messing about with the registry (unless, unlike me, you really know what you're doing!)

Personally I hate it when software forces its preferred options on you when there is no need to. Removing the registry entry for the Fonix voice app turned out to be very easy, and now I have my button back!
I used the free Registry Editor: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Thanks much Xanth.
I am using the smartkey program to hold the softkeys to enter startscreen.
Now I am looking for an option or a program to copy/paste and to put it under the message button.
Or does anybody knows a program that only gives the option to cut/copy/paste.
With this my phone would be perfectly tunned.

If the context menu of the program contains copy and paste, you can hold the center key of the 5-ways navigator to popup the context menu.

Hi Water,
Thanks, but not all programs have that option. That's why I like to have a program like that.
Right now i'm using Magicbutton but that doesn't have that function. GSMagic had it but I like Magicbutton better. So now I need the copy/past function.
You can try Xbar which is under the D-Pad. It opens up a screen in which you can select the running task but also shortcuts to programs of your liking and there are shortcuts ready for copy and paste and cut.

You can use PQz to map a hardware key (I use the Windows-key) to CTRL, so that you can use ctrl-c, ctrl-v etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343&highlight=ctrl
I think... just speculating here.. that they are more looking for...
press button - it copies whatever is the active selection
press button again - it pastes whatever is on the clipboard
Not sure, though... ctrl+c / ctrl+v works with the SIP, with that tool it works with the hardware keyboard, and if you're working with the sip - and thus a stylus - you can often just tap-and-hold and choose copy from the context menu.
PHM Keys comes with cut copy paste.
Use a button mapper to do as ZeBoxx says, if it's what you need, and you'll have quick access to said functions.

Thanks,
I'm using PQZ now. With TAB as CTRL. WIN would not work together with smartkey, because hold button 1 is the same hex number as WIN.
But this program is realy good.
My Solution to this...
I have a slightly hacked up copy of PHM Keys (couldn't get it to install on my 8125, so I hacked it off of a WM2003 device) that I'm using to solve this problem.
In my Start Menu I have three icons - "Object Copy", "Object Cut", and "Object Paste" (PHM Keys) so whenever I have something highlighted I click my (smartskey modified) Start Menu soft button, scroll down a slot or three with the 5-way, and select the copy/cut/paste operation I need.
When the KB is open it's even quicker Start-o Start-b Start-j respectively. Another plus is this works in nearly EVERY situation where you can highlight something. Sometimes the other options (context menus, SIP kbds, etc.) don't work everywhere.
Now some may not want to waste three Start Menu slots, but I have Tray launch filled with my apps, still have 4 Start Menu slots available, and all my non-soft buttons are mapped to one app or another, so I'm cool with them.
Plus I have my SIP pop-up KB completely disabled (I hate it's "intrusiveness" and only use the HW KB in landscape mode) so in portrait mode I had *NO* way to copy/cut/paste and had to devise something.
Good Luck
-JMS
I've updated VJKeyPress to add -cut, -copy, -paste.
On my website.

I have an hp ipaq RX 5915 with wm5. It has 7 buttons and a d-pad. When I try to map the buttons, only 4 of the 7 show up. Ideally I want to be able to use something like Vito Buttonmapper, but Vito only recognizes the 4 buttons. Is there a registry setting I can change to have my pocket pc recognize those buttons in the buttons settings section?
I have searched this forum, but couldn't find an answer. I appreciate any help.
Thanks!
There is button enhancer and mapping bible by Menneisyys. Hopefully you will find something that will work for you there.
Buttons are mapped by the following registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40Cx
(Probably after modifying these entries a reboot of the device is required to effect changes)
Try Hbutton , it allows you to asign more than one app to a button.
It's pretty powerful, I have 4 apps per button.
Using "press and hold" you can record sound in the non cooked version of WM6. I use Hypercore Lite and the "Record" shortcut is not available. Now i want to manually recreated the shortcut to be able to use the "press and hold" to record voice memos.
I searched the forum and tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338516&highlight=voice+recording+hardware+key
This gives me a "record" shortcut, but it doesn't do anything. The shortcut contains this text :
24#:MSVOICE
Is this correct, do i need to change it? Or do i need to solve it in another way?
is there a way to do this, our maybe just a shortcut to the quick menu (same as the one that launches when you slide open Keypad. Or it would be nice to assign it a key via a good key map ap since the built in key map ap doesn't have settings for long press :-(
Suggestions any1?

muzikfreakah
Hi
U can Use 'AE Button Plus' where U can assing a long press to eny button, or U can sinply remap one of your soft keys
shlomi.
Cool, ok thanks, I just thought there was a way to call the quick tasks which is already there in the phone, and launches when you slide out flip.
Will try AE.
Thanks!
Hi,
I was just about to post the same question. Is it possible to call up the "keyboard quick tasks" that you get when you slide open the phone as a hard button or a soft button (task or something).
Anyone know?
Hi
the task screen can be lunched by mapping one of your soft keys to windows\HTCActionScreen.exe , or u can copy a shortcut of this file to the windows\start menu\programs then u will be able to assign a hardware button to it.
shlomi.
I uses AEButtons, I assigned a button as LAUNCH A PROGRAM
Which options do I need of creating a new SMS ?
\windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to ""
Thanks a million!
Thanks!!
Aside from AE is there another ap I can use to map? I want to map to a softkey? Instead of calendar I want to put that i also want to remap the contacts soft key to the "phone" menu.
Hi,

This one might be even better for your newSMS shrtcut:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-keyswop-v0-2-1.html
for some reason, this doesnt work... i click on browse etc, and nothing happens...
Thanks guys, do any of these aps allow long press action as well atleast you get 4 actions on two buttons
Wish dual had more buttons really like the tytnII :-( I can even find button 2 and 3 which is specified on the buttons application wheer voice recorder and voice commander are mapped too :-(
