@ robboy, sorry you might habe missunderstud me. I did try it and I show you the pics today:
Picture 1: without the patch; Settings camera: "auto" and more field sensor
Picture 2: with patch and ; Settings camera: "auto" and more field sensor
Picture 3: with patch and ; Settings camera: "auto" and whole field sensor [ ]
You can see how foggy the first picture is.
PS: You can see the different a lot better in 2MB size, but this is to large for the forum.
By the way, it was easy to find a patch. I had to hardreset my phone. After all i found out, that my extended_ROM is empty. So I downloaded the extended_ROM from here ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Extended_ROMs/ and used winrar to unpack it.
What I also found is, a T-M*bi*e Rom, the sensor patch was packed in there. I had nothing to loose so I tried it.
Before I posted it in here, I did send it to 2 different people to let me know what they think. They were enthused.
So let me know what you guys think about the sensor patch.

My personal opinion... I think you are faking it all.
Why?
ALL three pictures are the same when you look left and right of it.
No one can be THAT precise with a mobile camera without a stand.
There isn't an inch difference on either side of the pictures.
I think this is done by either PaintShop or PhotoShop.

I don't know if he is faking it, but these pictures are different. Maybe you are kidding you don't see people on the right side of first picture (and they disappear on second picture). And look close the door of small building on the right - on first and second picture this part look different.
thats wrong,
if you look right the pictures, you will see in the first one in the upper right side and transporter and every picture is an unique print.
all pictures were made in an other vantage point.
ciao
This is getting no where, backup your phone and THEN install the app,try it out , if you are not happy with the result restore from your backup(Once installed you can't remove the app from the remove programs window)
Personally i've installed it and haven't had any problems yet,i'll print some of the pics i took before and after and see if there is a difference.
Thru the viewfinder they look the same.
At first, these pics are definetly not faked. We tried the patch now on 4 phones. MY Friends are satisfight with the results. these pics are made all from the same position, holded by my hand at the wall.
For all the pessimistic doubters:
Here are the pics in the original Size.

Exactly a little! But this little is exactly the big different.
Unfortunatley it is only in the T-Mobile Phone MDA III
Why dont we read any camera problems with those T-Mobile Phone MDA III phones? Because the patch works far enough to get better results.
By the way, you get those Extendet ROM here: ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Extended_ROMs/ just use winrar to upack it.
Download both: the German XDA ORBIT one from O2 and the GER from T-Mobile. There is the different.I think T-Mobile is a much bigger company than O2 and they have there own programmers to get better solutions.
I am interested in your pictures. Before and after:
And if anone think still these pics are faked, use picasa ore an exif reader to see details of the pic.

You can change the DPI of the display in WM5 by changing the following keys:
HKLM/Drivers/Display/GPE/
LogicalPixelsX
LogicalPixelsY
Using 96 for both should give you what you would expect from upgrading from 320x240 to 640x480 - i.e. 4x as much "screen space."
HOWEVER!
When I choose a LogicalPixelsX (height) value lower than 192 (even 190) apps like Contacts and Calculator refuse to run and various icons & display elements disappear. LogicalPixelsY doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any ideas?
Its just one of those things mate. The VGA hacks all reduce the size to 96dpi that being half of the normal 192. Any other ratio just doesnt seem to wash. A cpl of ppl have had success with 144 (I think). I didnt myself. My sad conclusion is the best solution is to use the .mui file hack to you can at least have apps like Adobe, Pocket Streets, and some games run in true VGA mode.

Hi,
when u change the dpi, u must ensure that the corresponding files are available in your windows directory! Search for *192*.* files in your windows directory....these are resource files built to suit 192 dpi. When you change it to, lets say 96dpi, you must have the same equivalent file *96*.* files, otherwise you'd have missing icons and graphics!
Hope that answers!

they are dlls, so you must make sure you've turned "show all files/ system files" option on, else you wont find them!
Anyways, here is a bunch of DLLs for you...(rename them to whatever DPI you want, and copy them into your windows folder).
I've included a Disable certificates cab file, which is needed to make sure windows chooses unsigned files to run....so that the new resource files you provide are accepted by windows....
let me know how it works!

Wow, thanks! You exceeded my expectations!

You'd have many apps screwed up in vga mode, thats common! For some of the default system apps, there are fixes which you could apply....look around the forum for the words "fixed" & "VGA"....and you should find them.
cheers,
San

In case Osir1s is not aware: the O2 Xda Exec is the exact same device as the iMate JasJar. Except it has a blue keyboard backlight (probably a tiny bit more expensive to make) and a different font on the keys. Oh, and the body is in a really nice matt black. But I keep having to wipe my grubby fingerprints off it with a cloth made for cleaning LCDs.
heh well thanks for the info but yes I tend to do my research before purchasing an expensive gadget so I know about the exec; just hadnt seen a pic of the blue backlight.
I actually was all keen on importing an Exec until I discovered the finish on it. The same with the XDA Atom, the piano black finish ruins it for me. I learnt my lesson with casing like that from the Motorola mpx200. I was forever wiping that thing down.
Will be a cold day in hell when I go back to those days
This is my 2nd matt black device, the first was a custom case for a little Samsung A300 which I still have. Arriving in the post soon will be a tiny bluetooth GPS device (which appears to have an accelerometer inside it) which is also matt black.
BTW, speaking of "expensive" - the Exec only cost me about AU$360 (with a ~AU$45/mo contract)
Ooh, I just thought of the ideal accessory for the Universal - remember the "tiny" phone in Fifth Element which looks huge by today's standards? How about a bluetooth "headset" like that? One that you hold to your ear, so it's easier to operate. Probably a good way forward for most mobiles now - if they'd only engineered bluetooth to handle connection with more than one device at a time. Then you could buy different brands of GSM radio, handset, camera, storage, keypad, display and use them all together. No doubt there would be a bluetooth capable iPod which would allow you to store all your contacts alongside your tracks. Oh well, maybe next time.
One problem I still have not being able to solve:
It is quite easy to change the DPI with the method described above (i.e. copying the corresponding .dll's to windows directory and changing the 2 registry entries).
So far so good.
I have however up to now not been able to find a background (*.tsk file) which is large enough for true VGA (except the Windows standard which I don't like).
All the other *.tsk files I am using on VGA 192 display smaller on the true VGA resolution.
Is there a way to increase the size of the *.tsk files ? Couldn't find a graphics editor yet to do that (not even infantview which normally reads almost everything)
Anybody has an idea ?
Cheers
hrb
Yes like most devices you will find the European and Australian versions of expensive are quite different, ie. Until this month infact no Aust. provider has provided the jasjar on a plan, hence these must be purchased out right for $1500 odd dollars, hence I consider that an expensive device.
I suspect even when Vodaphone do offer this device on contract later this month the monthly fee with be the usual $99, although likely with a cap plan so some repreive there; still expensive though.

It doesn't really matter. Threads can meander around the subject and take on side issues from time to time, and I think trying to force them into a channel of The Original Subject can stunt the overall community spirit. It also doesn't do a great deal for ones latteral thinking or creativity to keep so focused. How can you think outside the box if you're locked inside it?

Vijay now it is working on my Universal. But there is a small problem. It doesn't show good in VGA resolution. The icons and text seem really distorted... Would it be possible to make a VGA version?
Thank you in advance for all your contribution...
Mythozz: it would be possible to make a VGA version - it's all resource hackable. But I'm only posting it as a curiosity. Unless there's overwhelming demand that indicates it's useful, I'll leave it to someone else to resource hack... (and please post your results back here).
Have you found it good for anything? I don't think it particularly adds any functionality, just puts it all neatly together in one place. But I don't really use Bluetooth, so can't say if it adds anything.
V
Works nice on my SPV M3000 (NL).
Nice looking tool, to bad you have to scroll on some pages
vijay It is working just fine with my Uni, no problems at all. It's really nice that I can do anything I normally do with Bluetooth, but in a more sophisticated way... I use it all the time, I have a BT headset, a BT carkit, I ActiveSync with my PC via BT, exchange files as well so I have to admit that I am a fanatic user of such programs.
I understand that it is trouble for you to create a VGA version, so I will wait and see if you or someone else comes up with such a version. If not, no worries, in any case I thank you for a usefull program
Good to know it works! If I get a bit of time, I'll resource hack it, but anyone with VS2005 can open it up and do it for us - I'm desperately trying to finish a UI for VJToggleToday II so am very tied up

Diggia: I'm not really sure. Perhaps start with the zipped version, decompress and copy folder to Phone. Again, launch twice.
I'm sure you have already, but make sure you have de-certified your phone first.
Otherwise, I'm not sure. As I said, this is stolen from the Eten, but it works on both of my phones:?: If the zipped version doesn't work, I'll try looking into it further.

Just for curiosity, what can i do to see if my device is de-certified ?
Diggia: just the usual, try running any of my cabs and see if they install. Ie your system is set up to run uncertified software... I can't remember what system you're using, but the regedit is probably in the wiki if you need it, and there are a few cabs in the hacks section to do this. But I'm sure we're all running a decertified system now anyway!

I install your cabs without any problems (I have just installed VJDeviceLock, very useful !!!)
About the system, i have Qtek 9000 (WM5 obviously) with the last Qtek italian Rom taken from the FTP
I have installed the EnableRapi.cab also

PS: What's VJToggleToday II ?
Diggia - wow, didn't think of that
VJToggleToday II is an app to maximise the screen space of the Today screen, by shrinking the start bar and softkeys to an option size.
eg (not my screenshot)
I'm currently working on transforming it into something much better, hopefully But the current alpha works quite well.
V
WOW !!!!
Excellent work, i must try it ! 8)
ViJay,
I think this is the only bt app that can do ftp!! It's great (I use it only for this ability)
It would be great if this can be modified, so that pairing can be done (it currently does add something in the registry, unusable but is something )
I'll literally fall in love (of the manager of course XD)
Speaking on your start-softkey bars hack, it looks really nice: but what software can I add to add another customizable start bar with the same features? and how can I show the icons in the lower bar? Keep the good job!!
Cheers, MocciJ

than you very much but
it didnt work on my JAMin., does any one knows which company is the developer of this software?
Maybe I'm missing something here, but can someone enlighten me as to why you would want an answering machine on your phone when your mobile phone carrier already supplies you with that service? Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on any features here.
i dun think its just a software api that does this answering machine..
most likely to be a hardware inside the phone that is not present in other phones.
It is just a software!
There is a rom (2.03 Beta TofClock Himalaya) and it has this answering machine...
bepe: I think that's specific to the Himalaya. Because of the way the modem works on PocketPC phones, not all (in fact, it seems, very few) have the audio path accessible by the device itself for two way recording.
Have a read through here. If you've had any sucess, please post:

Just my two cents...
I don't think the software won't work on any device other than g-Smart range, it's to do with the hardware of the phone, not WM5. Without this hardware I believe it is impossible to record both sides of the conversation without some massive application, which will probably (a) slow the ppc right down, as will need to be integrated into the OS, and (b) not be that cheap either.
Regards.
just a quick qn.. if i want to try on my hermes, how to i 'install' it?
do i need to tweak any registry settings?
thanks
that would be a great app i think!! i'm on pay as you go and orange charge 10p per min to retieve voicemail!! would be super if the phone itself took over and saved an mp3 or something to the memory card!!! no charges!!
come on!!! some make or find it!!!
How much would it cost to sponsor someone to get true VGA working on the Athena and get all of the icon and display issues resolved then post the package on the forum for everyone to download?
If the price is right I may be willing to sponsor such a project. If anyone wants to contribute you're welcome to join in.
I just don't know how to do this myself or would. But I would be willing to pay for someone's time to get this done and give it away for free to everyone on the forum.
it must be really cheap because if you try TrueVGA you can see that there are only 2 ore 3 bugs...
CommManager
3G Icon
Software Keyboard (use Resco, it is much better *gg*)
So it can´t be difficult for an expert ....
I regrettably don´t know what to do :-(
WM6 and VGA
According to this article:
https://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2007/03/02/320x320-revisited.aspx
WM6 supports VGA - 640x480:

Would it not be better to wait for the Ameo WM6 upgrade?
That are good news!!!
You could also check the universal forums for different icons and fixes for TrueVga and OzVga. Also see ViJay555 site (not sure of spelling) he made several fixes for Universal trueVga on the Universal forums. He has developed many utilities and applications for PPC's.

Thanks for the reply. My keyboard works perfectly in trueVGA mode. The problems I've identified are CommManager, Connection Icon, Phone (which was fixed with a CAB file so is no longer an issue, some setting screens also, the HTC icon bar for the Today screen...and I know there are others. I can provide an exhaustive listing if needed.

Thanks! I tried searching the Universal forum but after an hour didn't find much. I'll go back and look. I just want this to work so I'm willing to pay to get it done and am also willing to give it out for free to everyone else. I'm glad to hear WM6 will support VGA. It's long overdue, especially since the devices with a hack can do it.

I'm confused. Doesn't the x7500 currently support 640x480 or something like that? When I used trueVGA and everything fits, what resolution is it running at?

May I add to this list Copilot Live (version 5 is what I'm using) - missing option configuration tabs. Also, the application is now covering only 1/4 of the screen. Not what I want really. I want it to cover the entire screen.
I think the entire HTCHomeplug is unuseable and need replacement.
Oh well, may just have to switch back to QVGA when driving.
if someone wants to test for me i could probably get the OS working in true VGA, 3rd party apps however are another problem, some just never work properly in true VGA.
Hi Midget,
I'm happy to test, not so worried about 3rd party apps as long as they work in standard mode while the today screen is VGA so I can see all my today apps at once...
Martyn
If anyone can help me dump the SPL it would allow OliPro to port his unbrickable BL from the Hermes to the Ameo...

The only fix I've seen for the phone is VijayBigPhone. That works OK, other than having to rerun it every time. Is there actually something more permanent?

I have re-installed MVRTrue vga today to look at the prevailing niggles and advantages.
Cheifly I feel that the icons are just a bit TOO small. For such a nice, crisp screen this seems like an awful waste of fingering posibility (for want of a better word!). If the icons could be somewhere in size between standard and MvR that would be superb.
MvR seems to slow down my Advantage dramatically sometimes - particularly the today screen, which seems to struggle to refresh - has anyone else experienced this?
I like the small address bars and sidebars - these really make a difference to window space with Internet Explorer and (even more crucially) The Midlet manager. I would be interested to know if there is a registry fix just for this in the interim.
If a new VGA app is developed I would like to hot-swap between modes without a restart as inevitably certain applications will never function correctly in tru VGA mode. a today button for this function would be wonderful if it's possible.
p.s. midget I'm more than happy to test any VGA mod you can develop, Im always installing and re-installing anyway.

a restart is needed to change modes due to the way WM works.
Thank you midget. I shall try and find that sidebar hack. perhaps google will be a simpler route.
With regard to the icon size then would I be right in thinking that wm6 has only qvga and vga icon support, so nothing in-between can be utilized?
Or am I confusing myself...I am thinking that this means there is no way of altering the icon size at all in the way that you can with windows xp.
Sorry for the noob responses but I'm genuinely interested. A display settings add-on on a par with windows xp display settings would be REALLY amazing. don't you think?
(I appreciate that a windows pc and a PDA are completely different things, but you've gotta dream a dream)

Another post raised a good point that Office Mobile is much more practical in VGA mode: I can't really contest that.

Midget_1990, we need to get this going. Let me know when you're ready and now that you're getting a device you can test no your own phone. ;-)
Let's see if you can fix the little quircks so we can get trueVGA running all the time without the graphics going out of wack.
EDIT: And I understand that we wont be able to fix everything. And I know people don't expect all apps to work perfectly. The goal should be to make defaults within the OS render as properly as possible in trueVGA mode. I think vijay555 already "fixed" some of the issues recently reported and we can either involve him on this or get permission (if required) to build on his work.

I second that
Guys,
For part of my VJPoOf collection of tools, I made a tiny app that just instantly powers down the Blackstone.
I understand that it works on some other HTCs too, although I haven't tested it.
It's very simple - no warning dialogs, no shutdown animations, it just instantly shuts down the phone (like pressing and holding power, but faster). Please make sure you've finished what you're doing before launching this app.

I suggest using it with an app launcher, or replacing the existing PowerWarning app that shuts the phone down in the Blackstone.
No frills or installer.

V
PS This should really be part of my VJEschaton app, which already does shutdown on some of the older phones (amongst other things).
This app was only made for the Blackstone, although it may well be compatible with other recent HTCs. For older ones, try VJEschaton if shutting down is your thing!
BTW, for the hard of thinking:
This app could lock your phone up if you put it in the startup folder. So don't do it
Vijay,
Just to let you know that I ran this on a HTC TyTN (Hermes) and it does not power off the device. It simply turns off the screen.
This is FYI only as I was'nt expecting it to work on this device.
Cheers
WB
@wacky.banana: I just updated the post, I should have mentioned that this is really just for newer HTCs, and VJEschaton should be compatible with some of the older ones.
Eventually VJFastOff will be incorporated into VJEschaton, if I don't forget to!
V
Damn you V
I only reversed how to do this the other day (assuming you are doing it the same way as me) for my xdaShutdown - which I'm still re-coding in C++.
Dave
@DaveShaw:
I did this a while ago, but somebody asked about it in one of the other threads, so I thought I'd give it a bit more publicity!
It's a nice little app, and for VJPoOf I made a replacement for both the long press and the short press (standby) function.
The standby function replacement was quite tough, more challenging then I expected (as returning from standby is the problem!).
Can't recall why I didn't release that one now...
V
Confirmed working on my Sprint Touch Pro (stock rom) Thanks for this.

V you have too many apps for me to keep track off (EDIT: you need to fix your RSS).
Nice work.
I'll have to up my game for xdaShutdown (I'm planning on a psShutXp clone with full power off support, etc... as soon as I figure out this pesky C++)
Dave
@Dave:
There's a particular problem related to VJSihaya which I've been puzzling about for 2 years. Last weekend I got 90% to my solution, and nearly wet myself. And yet, that remaining 10% is probably going to take me another year to solve! So I say to you, don't learn C++ - go and become a fisherman or something
Nah, I'm just joking
I love c++, but hate it with almost as much passion, although that's due to my lack of skill, not because of the language
I've got more apps than I can remember, and only about 60% of them have been released. I took a while away from xda devs working on some infrastractural frameworks (WinFX, my window manager, and related things) but am finally releasing bits and bobs again.
Nice to be back.

Dave
I remember many moons ago doing a biology research project which involved taking water samples from a small lake. Leaning over the water's edge, I looked down, only to watch my glasses fall in the lake, whereupon I stumbled my way home and cellotaped some old ones back together.
Now I have laser vision, so can see girls' delicates... Happy days.
V
You guys are funny. Honestly, i didn't do it. I shared this nice little app with a guy, and a little later im reading "i put this in the start up folder, now i can't get my phone back on, WTF??!!??" So, i just figured you guys might have a better solution than i already suggested (hard reset) Although i am a noob, i realize "turn of your phone" apps shouldn't go in that particular folder. workin great for me though
@dschoenike:
My goodness, I thought it was a hypothetical!
Sigh, who would put a shutdown app in the startup folder? To what end? It would surely create a paradox that could destroy the universe.
Hmm, I think a hard reset is probably the only option. I've added a warning at the top
Second: better not to use this app, but VJEschaton or xdaShutdown or similar, which make it a bit harder to shutdown the phone.
As I said, this was a spinoff app made specifically to cut out the crap and just shutdown! If you can afford to wait, just use the existing PowerWarning app in the \windows\ folder.
I feel bad for your friend. tasteless despair
V
Thanks again for responding. Yeah, i really wish it was a hypothetical question, but sadly, no. its funny you mentioned paradox, i was thinkin the same thing. Guess we learn from our mistakes. I really never thought a warning woulda been needed. I told him i'd buy him some apps for the trouble. I feel bad. Thanks for the fast replies. much appreciated.
