I want to write a today launcher - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

1)I want to write a today launcher, but how do i obtain ICON from applications and show them?
what should be the API that i am supposed to use?
sample code snippet will be greatly appreciated.
2)Can i cache all ICONS in a file and load from it instead of
loading shortcuts from SD card?

there is an open source Today launcher software, cLaunch. I think it is in sourceforge, try to do a google to it.
anyway, instead of writing your own from 0, you want to add yours on top of it?

Deleting ROM files/System Tray modification

There is a file contained on my TMobile Wing I want to delete. Total Commander has it listed as In ROM under properties. It is t-zones.lnk. I wanna get it out of the system tray.
For that matter, how do I edit the system tray icons? I've been ALL through the registry. No luck at all. I don't want to totally disable it, but I don't want 237429489834 icons in it either.
Thanks!
Modifying individual tray icons isn't really something a third party app can do, as they are inserted by the parent app, and maintained by the OS. The OS could possibly be tricked to allow you to remove them, but it'd be a little messy. It's not normally just a case of run a file to remove tray icons from App A, B and G.
For replacing some rom files, just try renaming it, to eg, t-zones.orig.
If that doesn't work, find what .exe file the t-zones.lnk file points to (eg open it in notepad), and try replacing that file.

I didn't try renaming it. I'll give that a try, thanks!
I uninstalled the software that the file links to, so it's not there anymore.
Thanks again! I'll try all this in the morning when I wake up.
I need to just learn how to cook up a ROM myself.

Custom PNG icons for Shortcuts

Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm trying to change the icon of a shortcut I created to Resco Photo Viewer and then tried to change the Icon with a PNG to no avail. Is this even possible?
SK ShortcutCreator, somewhere in development thread is another one Shortcutmaker. U'll have to convert it to dll or icl but there a loads of apps to manipulate with icons....(for PC)

Changing icons in cooked rom back to default?

I've seen in various threads users ask how to change icons or customize stock icons, but i'm interested in finding out how to do the reverse, how to change customized icons back to stock icons on a cooked rom, I've come across references to the shellres.96.dll file and i copied that file from a stock rom and when i use SK Shortcut Manager its still showing the old icons, so i assume i am going to have to go deeper than that, any advice will be much appreciated.
edit I also tried replacing the shellres.dll.mui file and it couldn't be replaced. (access denied message)
I use a commercial app called SK Shortcut Manager to CHANGE any icon (cooked or default) to whatver I want it to be...I have created a couple of dll's to hold my icon packs. This app can remove the cooked icon and I guess then default comes into play if you dont assign a new one. I've tweaked my Programs Menu to this below...

No way to find a shortcut to an installed application

Hi all,
I've just installed TomTom7 , and I'm not able to find a shortcut in start/programs/ , the only way to run it is to go to explorator and SD/prgrams files/ and run the exe file.
my question is,1/ why first I cannot find the icon in the last used application in the start menu after running it?
2/why there is no shortcut created automatically.
Thanks for your reply
maybe an installation error, should be a shortcut in the program group. At any rate, download total commander and simply make a shortcut for it.

Internet shortcut images

Hi all,
My HD2 is having problems adding images to the shortcuts to favorites on the Internet tab. Most of them stay empty.
Is there a way to manually add images to those shortcuts?
I've tried searching, but couldn't find anything about it.
I hope someone can help.
Thanks!
Jan
Same problem here
Only one of mine has an image and the others don't. If I delete the one that does have an image and add it again the same image comes back.
The image is stored in folder /windows/Opera9/profile/images and has a .icn suffix and the file name is the url address. I can't find any program that I have that will open the .icn file to see what is in it.
Icon image file used for Windows file and folder icons; saved in a bitmap image format that can be opened by various image editors.
These will:
Adobe Photoshop CS5 with IconBuilder plugin
ACDSee Photo Manager 12
XnView
XnView is free but it does not look anything like the image when it opens it. Re-naming the image .icn to another favorite url does not bring it up under that favorite.
I have Opera 10 as default from that tab so maybe that is why it does not work correctly.

i think this is what you're looking for
@johnboatcat, @damnshah,
Thanks a lot!
Just what I was looking for!

If you don't want to make your own thumb images but are happy to have the default one, what I did was click on a shortcut without an image, wait for it to load fully, then exit opera and do this for each shortcut... The page must fully load...
