Hello everyone,
I have done a search on this topic, but have not found anything out there. I have an 8525 that I purchased a week ago. I have not done any mods, upgrades, etc to the phone. I have an application that allows me to listen to Sirius radio throught the phone. When I listen to the radio I have the phone plugged into the AC outlet to keep it charged. I have noticed that it seems to drain the battery completely even though I have the phone plugged in.
Is there some hack that might help with this? I had a Treo 750 that I did the same thing with and the phone would always keep 100% charge, as long as it was plugged in.
The 8525 charges normally when I am not listening to my music.
Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed the same problem. It appears that the use of the Sirius program draws down more battery power than the battery charger is able to replenish. I can't see any way around it, except to use a larger battery.

My battery went flat and I can't find my mains charger, so I connected it to my laptop using the usb cable, with the intention of recharging it. But it doesn't seem to be charging and I can't turn it on at all. Is that normal? Will it only recharge from a mains charger when the battery's dead? Finally, is it safe to by any odd charger off ebay etc.?
I do not know if that is normal or not. However with regards to charging, I have used a Motorola charger with USB connection successfully in the car and from the mains.
If it is all the way dead, you have to charge with original charger. USB charge will not work. Nor will a Motorola charger work. I think that as long as the charger is 5volts, you should be okay. My Motorola charger is like 3v or something.
Thanks
I had the same problem. It does not charge in the beginning, however, if you leave it connected to USB, it will start charging in an hour or so. damn long, but it's better than nothing...
Tried to keep it connected via usb for a few hours, no luck, guess I'll just have to wait till I've bought another mains charger. There seem to be plenty of cheaper ones on ebay etc., is it safe to buy any usb charger?
This happened to me, and I nearly had a heart-attack until I came to these forums for a solution. Apparently, the phone has to be on for the charger (mains or usb) to actually charge the phone. This is because the operating system of the phone controls the charging of the phone. If the battery is completely dead, the operating system cannot control the charging, and so no matter what kind of charger you use, and no matter how long you leave it plugged in, you won't be able to charge the battery.
The only way to get it to work is to get a bit of charge into the battery directly - not through the phone. In other words, you need to jump start the battery (almost like you would jump start a car's battery). What I did was take the battery to a phone repair shop, and asked them to boost the battery using boosting equipment. Their battery testing equipment will be able to tell you when there's sufficient charge to get it going. Then turn on the phone and plug in the charger immediately once it's booted up (in other words, when the operating system can kick in and start controlling the charging process).
Hope this helps.
PS, there's a post on this forum somewhere on how to do-it-yourself, but in the long run, I found my way to be the easier way.
PPS. Once your phone is back up and running, never let the battery run down completely.
Same happens to Motorola V3.
It is ridiculous design flaw.
This is really annoying, I was hoping to sort this out with a new charger (in the post now) but looks like I'm going to have to go to a t-mobile shop. Will they definitely have something to charge the battery a bit, or should I start looking into buying something to charge the battery at home?
Yes you need the main charger.
I was using my other phones charger(motorola) with my cingular 8125 and battery is completly empty it doesn't charge it.
Didn't wait for a hour but if that works. It's good i love my wizard
motorola V3 chargers do work. used the missus' when battery ws completely dead. interestingly, doesnt work the other way around...... :?:
help with my dead battery
Bdcol
Could you direct me to that post on how to charge a dead battery - I have searched but can't find it. This is a really annoying problem - does anyone know of a commercially available battery charger which doesn't need the phone OS (the battery looks pretty standard to me).
Many thanks
Chris
So here is my problem. Last night my Cingular 8125's battery was around 15% remaining. So i plugged it in for the night to charge. When I plugged it in, the orange light turned on showing that it was charging. This morning I was laying in bed playing some games on it (no work yay!) and the orange light had turned to green (usually means full charge). Then I get up to go out for breakfast, I unplug my phone and throw it in my pocket. I get to the restaurant and pull it out to send a quick Text message, and the damn thing was OFF. I go hmmm, long story short, the battery had 0% left. Now, no more than 10 minutes earlier, it was plugged in, WORKING, with apparently a full charge (green light). Now when I plug it in to either a USB data cable to my computer, a cigarette lighter or a house charger, then orange charging light does not come on. I can't get it to turn on PERIOD. WTF is going on here. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, are my appointments and stuff since my last Sync going to be gone? If so, )($*%)@(*%!!!!! But more importantly, I just want to know if this is something fixable or do I have to take it back to Cingular tomorrow morning? THANKS!!!
This is the first battery fialure I've heard about, but it's certainly a possibility.
As for your appointments, etc. - they should be OK, since WM5 uses persistent storage, all should be there.
Try plugging in the charger and see if you can check them. Also, try to back it up while plugged in, just in case.

Mine did the same thing
I had a very similar experience. I was using my Qtak 9100 until the battery warning came on. I plugged it into my USB to charge overnight but for some reason it did not charge. It wouldn't even turn on. The USB charger would not get it running, the wall charger would not work either.
As far as I can tell the PPC uses a software driven smart charger. WM5 has to be running in order for the charger to work. My battery had gotten so low the OS couldn't run. I was screwed.
I ended up buying a new battery and things booted up fine. I'm now very careful with how low I let the battery go.
Leon.
Try this:
Remove the battery and the SIM card for about 8 hours, then reinsert both and plug it in again.
I think this might do it.

I wish I had seen this last night, because now I am going to the Cingular store and making them either give me a new battery or a new phone...luckily last night I had run a full backup with SPB backup while it was "charging." So hopefully everything will still be there.
My atom is not getting charged. When i put it on ac adaptor it shows charging but even after 10 hoiurs the battery is empty and after removing from the power the phone shows main battery very low.
I tried charging thru laptop and same problem.
i have changed the battery also still the issue remains.
advice.

Yeah.. Atom behaves strangely sometimes.. In my case, some times when I switch on the bluetooth and try to charge it, It does not charge. But it seems to use the power coming from the charger to stay alive and operate normally (even if the battery is completely exhausted).
any suggestion how to make my atom charge
my xda atom started doing the same thing, I would plug it in and it would say that it's charging for about 5 seconds then the battery indicator would say full. Then I would unplug it and it would die out. I tried both charger & usb and the usb wouldn't work at all. So what I did is, I removed the battery let it sit for a minute. Put the battery back on and plugged the charger back in (without turning it on) and it's working. I was actually doing a search on this issue for the past couple of hours since this is the first time I've encountered this problem, but the phone seems to be charging now. I'll give everybody a update tomorrow to see if I have to keep taking out the battery everytime I want to charge it.
My problem is a bit different.
My Atom Exec charges with the USB cable synced to PC, and with one specific wall charger (specs: Input: 100-250V, Output: DC 5.5-12V, Max 1000mA, Min 150mA)
But it won't work with any other charger I try it with, even Universal charger I used to use with my HP iPaq. Is there some kind of trick to charging the Atom?
I as well have had this annoying problem happen a few times. I have a second battery and it happens with that battery as well so it has to be the Atom not 'reading the batteries' properly. As posted I have also found taking the battery our for a short time them putting it back seems to fix the problem untill it happens again
Try WM5torage. It will make your phone appear as a card reader in windows. Now pc will supply power to your device. Nice software trick.
Hey Guys,
I have a query regarding charging my Hermes / 8525.
If I plug the phone into a wall unit, the orange charge light immediately comes on.
If I use the phone, or receive a call the phone continues to charge.
Once the phone has been used the phone/screen stays on.
When I plug the phone into my car adapter, the phone doesn't begin to charge until the phone goes into sleep mode. But then when I go to use the phone it stops charging. So if the battery is on it's last minutes, plugging the phone into my car adapter does NOT let me continue to use the phone. I have tried 3 different car chargers.
This week I bought an XTLINK Bluetooth Cell to Landline Converter. This is a great little box, and I love that once I walk into my house my cell phone rings through my phone system. Call Clarity is great.
But with the Bluetooth link active constantly the battery drains like crazy.
So I purchased a desktop charger unit. It arrived today. You can use it to charge the phone or with USB to synch the phone. So I plugged in the wall adapter to the cradle, and the phone only charges when not in use.
But when I hook up the cradle via mini-usb to my laptop the phone goes into constant charge mode - but it's doesn't stay on after being in use.
Can someone explain to me why the phone has these different charging modes ? Is there something I can do to change a setting to make the charging more consistent ?
Thank you,
Dave
??
no one else knows about this ?
I have the same problem with USB charging in the car when I was running vp3G's Rom. Now I switch to Crc's Rom and the problem is gone.
But my phone would stop charging if I use my GPS software thru bluetooth and bluetooth headset. In that case I just reset my phone and it would charge normal again.
I have seen this too. I don't know the exact details, but the phone checks the charging current when it is on, to see if it's within a certain value. If it's not, it stops the charging circuit to protect the battery. That's why it works when it is asleep. You'll need to buy a car charger specifically designed for the Hermes.
Yep, there is a long thread on car charging on the forum. Like the other uses says, either buy a HTC official charger or have a look at the other thread about soldering pins 4 & 5 together on the USB connector.
I have a generic car charger from a local electronics store that does not have a problem charging whilst talking over a bluetooth hands free and navigating using a
bluetooth gps receiver, however, I am using one of CRC's roms so that might be why.
The only thing I have found is that if I leave the charger plugged into the hermes when I start the car the hermes stops charging and will not charge again until I reboot it... disconnecting the plug before cranking the engine and then whacking it in straight after works around the problem though.
There is probably so much of a voltage drop when cranking the engine that the little DC-DC convertor can not keep the charge current up.
Hi all!
I recently got hold of a Hermes (of the SPV M3100 variety). Very pleased with the phone, usual HTC goodness, but a serious issue has come up that I'd love to get to the bottom of.
I like to listen to internet radio a fair bit, chat on Skype, etc. This obviously requires use of HSDPA or at least a 3g connection...
The problem I have is when listening to, say, streaming audio (via installed app WunderfulRadio etc) the battery drains like there's no tomorrow. Ok, I know that 3g is a big strain but the battery discharges even when I'm plugged in via USB!
I thought maybe the 5v usb gives perhaps wasn't enough to power the device under these conditions, so plugged in a 12v to mini-usb charger in my car. The same result happens here.
I really want to be able to listen to streaming audio on the move, and my carrier (o2 UK) supports this well by the look of things. The fact that I can't charge the device or even keep it topped up makes this very hard though.
I'm running WM6.1 - CRCs latest ROM. Radio 1.50.00.00 (which in all has improved battery life in comparrison to the 1.47's I flashed originally, I think)
Thanks very much for the help!

I am assuming you know about fully closing running programmes in memory. (If not search on task managers)
The Hermes needs 1000mA (current is as important as voltage to the Hermes, especially given what you are trying to do), particularly when under load. The official mains charger gives this but not car chargers or USB So the first thing to check is whether you have the same problem using the official 1000mA charger.
If you do not have the problem then you may need to consider a power inverter for in car use. I always use one of these in preference to typical car chargers. With an inverter you just plug in your mains charger and if you have the correct spec inverter, you will have the rquired ampage.
http://www.nextag.co.uk/12v-inverter/zzukzB1z38--products-html (note these are UK models - obviously these are country specific to give correct outputs and plug configurations)
If your problem exists even on a mains charger delivering 1000mA (not the 500mA some other phones uses), then you are simply out-stripping the ability of the device to charge daster than you are draining it.
In rare cases the mother-board drains more current than official tolerances permit. As per the Service Manual, there is no suggested fix for this other than board replacement (although, in this circumstance it would be prudent to try a hard reset first.)
