Can the Trinity be used as a BT or a USB GPS?
i asked the same question a bit back
get some software called gps2blue, its free. set up your trin to share a com port over bluetooth. Think i set mine to com 5.
then get your other phone or whatever connected up over bluetooth to that com port and assign it a local com. eg com 8 or something i set my universal to. then turn on gps2blue to share the gps from com 9 to com 5 or whatever you set.

How is it? Is it any good?
It works great.
Here's a little how-to I wrote a few days ago for setting it up with an Axim X50v. It should work for other devices too.

Hello, i've installed Tomtom 5.21 and the maps and everything is ok. but i can't make the link between my gps reciver (Royaltek Star III) and the atom XDA. I've installed the partnership in the settings but it doesn't connect with the antenna. I've seen in my other pda (ipaq hx4700 and ipaq hx2790) that there is a bluetooth manager in the connection setting but there is non in the atom xda. Do you know what's the solution ?
Thanks
create OUTGOING COM port for GPS device
The same problem again
I've tried but i can't choose the port i want and if i choose another one, i can't find it in the gps settings in tomtom.
tomtom use 8 COM port. so.
1. Settings=>bluetooth=>mode
2. check all boxes
3. Settings=>bluetooth=>devices=>new partnership
4. pare GPS
5. Settings=>bluetooth=>COM ports
6. choose device=>NEW OUTGOING port
7. assign your GPS device to 8 COM port
thats all.
Can't chosse com 8 in Tomtom
Ive tried in Tom tom to choose com 8 but the only ones i can choose are com 2, com 3, com 4 and com 9. And if i want to chose one of theses for pairing, it's refused. I don't know what to do
dont forget, you need to set a new incoming port too, just play about with differnet comm ports until one works, keep the gps in search mode until the atom sees it, assign a comm port to it and see if the gps screen picks up a signal, takes a bit of time, but generally always works
Not working
I'm using a gps antenna in bluetooth but it isn't working, there is no link between the antenna and the atom. On other pda you have the bluetooth manager and you can make the link in manual mode. I don't know why i can have the com8 in tomtom options. The antenna is never blue, there is no link between

no you don't. you can only receive information from GPS, not to send it.

check PM
I did it
I did it but it's not working, no changes
did you assign for GPS 8 COM port?
by the way, do you have tomtom 5.21 for WM5 devices?
COM 8
In the bluetooth menu, first, i've the gps associated on serial port. The outgoing port on com 5 and the incoming port on com 8. But in tomtom i've com 3,4,5 and 9 avalaible but on the atom i can't chosse theses ones. That's the problem and i've no link made between. And there is no way to make it in manual mode
look, I sad clearly:
create OUTGOING!!!! COM PORT.
then assoshiate it with 8 com port.
you say:
incoming port on com 8

I have no comments. Good luck!
P.S. I have TomTom Navigator with bluetooth GPS on my Atom. It working perfectly.
Nothing's working
Impossible, nothing's working. There's no connection between the antenna and the tomtom.
In Tomtom the avalaible ports are : com 2, com 3, com 4 and com 9
On the atom, bluetooth is in discoverable mode and i've created a partnership with the antenna. I've created an outgoing port on com 8 and for the incoming port in com0 because i can't choose com 2, com, com 4 and com 9.
I really don't know what else i could try
Hey all!
First post here!
Ive installed TomTom on my o2 XDA Mini S but am having some problems getting the BT GPS receiver to communicate!
Ive had a search on this forum and followed these instructions:
To install your BT GPS receiver. First pair the device. Then add a new COM Port under the Bluetooth settings. You want to add an OUTGOING port. I usually specify it as COM0. Then start up TT5, go into GPS configuration, selct "Other BT Receiver", then select COM0 from the menu. TOMTOM will automatically start up BT (it doesn't have to on before you launch the program), find the already paired receiver and start communicating with (give it some time though. the whole process takes about 30 seconds to a minute).

Sooo.. under the bluetooth settings i could only choose between COM ports 6 and 7 - so i chose 7...
However in TomTom it only lists COM port 9 as an available COM port!? :?
Anyone else had problems with this or can offer any advice??
Any help much appreciated!
Mark
Ive done some more searching...
It appears that my problem might be due to the fact that my TomTom is version 5 and i read somewhere that only version 5.2 is compatible with WM5 phones? Is that correct??
Would updating my TomTom to v5.2 therefore allow me access to configure the COM ports correctly - or even better do it automatically so that i dont need to configure it manually! lol ??
Hi Mark,
i had the same problem - basically if you have Navigator 5.21 when you goto GPS CONFIGURE in TomTom you will see com ports 6 & 7 listed.
In the bluetooth settings of your XDA the GPS receiver needs to be set to COM 6 and the incoming port needs to be set to COM 7.
you only have to do this set up procedure once.
That should do it!
regards
Mark
and don't forget to set the connection to be NOT secure, when you specify the outgoing COM port...if you chose a secure connection, tomtom will forget the pairing when you restart your GPS...
also, if the com port is not listed in the TomTom GPS configuration, you can chose another port, shut down TomTom, and manualy change the com port to the desired com-port by editing the navigator.cfg configuration file

I am trying to set up tomtom 5.21 with my BTGPS74 receiver but cant get the two to communicate. I know there is some settings you can change in settings/system/gps but the problem I have is I dont have the gps option in settings anywhere. Am I missing something? Does any on know what I should do. Tomtom wants me to use port 3 or 7 but when I try to set them in bluetooth settings it says its not possible check your settings. Any suggestions would b welcome. Thanks.
P.S I know the receiver works as it still works well with my N70.
...you should've gotten a GPS icon if software GPS recognized.
In rgister you can force simulation.
hklm\controlpanel\gps]
delete redirect and add 'group' with dword=2
Then GPS icon will appear.
I gave it programport 7,hardware 6, baudrate=57600
gps auto checked
I'm not sure about the settings...
I had to create incomming and outgoing com ports on my 3100 (not sure if you need both)??
TomTom used com port 9 and works like a dream
as soon as you start the programme it connects automatically as long as my receiver is on.
It even connects when the BT on the 3100 is turned off - it starts the BT automaticlally when tomtom runs!
Yeah i agree all you need to do is set up the com ports, then fire up tomtom and select the com port you just set up and away it goes
Chris
Thanks for the replies guys. I know I have to set the com ports but the problem I have is there is nowhere for me to do this. For some reason the gps settings is missing from the system/settings. I am going to try to reinstall tomtom to see if it helps. Tomtom has ports 3 and 7 showing but they seem to be taken by something else so I cant configure my receiver on either of them.
I have a slightly different problem... my TyTn can connect to the BT GPS reciever, but as soon as TomTom tries to calculate a route, or I click the GPS signal icon it crashes back to the Today screen...
I've got TomTom installed with 5.21 update, anyone had any problems like this?
you just need to pair your bluetooth device go to settings connections and bluetooth and add new device, let your tytn search and it will find a new device when you have paired it select new comm port outgoing
I have no gps setting in control panel either
Cheers
Chris
Hi,
i have a strange problem with my BT. I cant create a incoming or outgoing BT port. I dont know why but it wont let me create any ports.
Anyone with the same odd problem?
I had a similar problem, Tytn would only let me choose COM0 (Zero) as outgoing port, and TT works fine with it. However, I would like to add Mapking for Asia, and this navi soft will not accept a GPS on COM0. Anybody understands why Tytn is only offering COM0 as outgoing ports for GPS?
I have set the com4 as outgoing port and now tomtom seems to work fine.
thanks for that info.
I don't know why only port 0 and all other ports are blocked but TT works for me now. I only need to wait for a better ROM and i can leave my Wizard home
I have written to a good contact at HTC since I need COM ports other than 0 for Asian Mapking navi soft (in add. to TT) . Will keep you posted.
Answer from HTC:
"As my testing, the Outgoing port is not limited with COM0. PaPaGo can accept with COM0, COM2, COM4, COM8, and COM9. I think the limitation of COM0 is the software limitation of TOMTOM, So if the user wants to use Mapking that only support COM1~7, he need delete the outgoing port COM0, and reassign another COM port for the BT GPS."
I imagine the problem lies between the Tytn and TomTom only, and other navi soft would find other COM ports. But I am kind of hesitant to interfere with a working TomTom, and go through the outgoing COM port game again...
I'm using Navigon and set up an outgoing Connection on com2 and it works fine for me.
sounds like TT is the problem ...

Guys, let me try to help you a little bit, as I work in navigation software development (Destinator).
1. The COM ports has nothing to do with the actual software you are running. This is pre-defined in the ROM you are using. That is also the reason why we see variations here - we use different ROMs.
2. In order of enabling a COM port, you do NOT need to discover the GPS icon on the settings. It is quite useless unless you wish to work simultaniusly with more than one software.
3. To enable a COM port, after you pair the GPS, look down for the tab COM Ports in the BT settings Manager. You only need to create Outgoing COM.
4. Strange but usually you will only be able to choose between 2 COM ports. The rest are hidden by the OS. MAKE SURE that you disabled the "Secure Connections". Default key for all the GPS receivers is "0000" and for Globalsat 308 is "2003". The last is AKA HP GPS.
5. If you cannot enable any other COM port than COM0, this is a ROM problem and you should contact your ROM provider like the mobile carrier. You can also try to enable other COM ports with the attached CAB file. Simply run it, it will expose all COM ports for you and now you should start trying. I reccomend to test COMs 4-8 first, normally, it will solve your problems. (Note: I got this file previously here and did not create it myself).
There have been may posts about TomTom not recognising B GPS's.
One solution that doesnlt seem to be mentioned here id to ensure that the name of the GPs in BT connections actually ends in "GPS"..
If it doesn;t renove the pairing and re-pari , but change the name this time to something that ends in "GPS"...
good luck

Thanks guys, found another solution that works for me now:
1) Set your Bluetooth GPS to another COM port than 0 (TomTomĀ“s standard port 6 was not available, so I choose 2)
2) open Programs/Navigator/navigator.cfg with a text editor, change COM0 to COM2
3) start TomTom - working on COM 2!
Started Mapking, found COM 2 - working now.
hello fellas,
as you can see im new here. im thinking of buying the TYTN, a sector which i have never explored before (pda sector).
it sounds great with the applications and due to my work, a need for a pda is becoming bigger.
i posted in this message due to the GPS topic.
i got a very stupid question which you may recieve occasionally if i buy the tytn..
why do a person need BT enabled GPS? i read you can connect it to your PDA but for what reason?
thanks in advance and apologies for any inconvience..
@D_G - welcome to this board
In order to run navigation software on your Tytn you need a external GPS connected to it. Easiest solution is a external GPS connected via Bluetooth.
Another solution would be to buy a PDA phone with a GPS receiver on board, for example the ETen G500.
Of course we would all be interested in a UMTS PDA with integrated GPS, with acceptable battery life, but that will take some time...
thanks lucas for the answer. but why would you need a navigation software if you have a GPS device? in either case you will need to have both devices in a particula blue tooth range. right?
this means you will need your handheld device + the GPS to activate the navigation software, or dd I miss something?!
hi guy looked through forum and can't see this anywhere can you guys help
trying to connected my new gps receiver to phone via bluetooth but i need com port 8 but there is only com ports 6/7 is there a way to add more ports i have asked O2 and they say NO but you guys have been very help full in future

I to am trying to connect my Holux GPSlim 236 receiver to my phone via bluetooth and am experiencing the same problem
I have no solution for lak of COM ports (in my Magician i have had 4 free COM ports AFAIR) - I cant even swith GPS applet on (it should be somewhere in settings) to use few apps with one GPS simultaneusely. Wrrrr.
All i know is that every GPS software allows U to choose which port do U want to use it with. Just use one of the ports available and set GPS application to use it.
If U cant choose COM port in your navigation software (i doubt that so limited application exists) try to use Franson GPS Gate software as a workaround.
Hi Team
I need some help from others that have tt6 running on an XDA211i
Any body out there ??
I think I am having the usual problems with com port set up ?
Havnt tried GPS Dash yet but that thats my next stop .
help needed

tomtom 6 works fine on the xda2i, i know i was running it,till someone stole the device. Just turn off beam (click start > settings>connections>beam) and then pair the gps, once paired add a outgoing com port on the device(click com ports at the bottom).
Then run tomtom setup and choose your device in the config,if it isnt listed choose other bluetooth, then choose the com port you selected as the outgoing port and it will work
Add an outgoing com port
Hi Scousemartin
Great to hear from you , I have been struggleing with tt6 for waht seems like ages now .
I can follow uyou all the way to add an outgoing Com port ? clock on com port at the bottom ?
Ive paired and then cant find where to add am outgoing com port on the device ( Click com ports at the bottom ??? dont have a " com ports at the bottom ?? )
I can look at the device and it adds the bt gps as outgoing port 6 , when i put this in to tt6 and turn both on the gps flashes furiously but as far as TT6 is conceerned it keeps the " no gps device " sign and no spinning disk either.
No other progs seem to ba able to run a gps either on my machine , maybe this is significant ?
Astro1
sorry for not getting back earlier astro pm me a msn or yahoo address and i will talk you through it, what version of tomtom 6 are you running?
Hi Astro,
Have you fixed your problem yet? I am also running TT6 on an XDA IIi with no problems. Might be able to help...
