heres my theory...i noticed earlier that the threads for xda2(himalaya) had lots of posts and links regarding the wm5 being available for the device...i mean the device is really really old...then why isnt there any made for the xda2i(alpine) when they both almost seem to share the same hardware components...in contrast the xda2i is much more advanced with an enhanced processing capabilty(one of the fastest processors for pda during its first release) then i dont see any reason why there shouldnt be one for it aswell...but if you come to think of it...since the xda2i was released only about 3 years ago compared to the xda2(himalaya) which was released about 5 years ago if not a decade...and my guess would be the wm5 was pretty much made available for it in order to revive it back from the dead,lol...some sorta miracle..which i believe after about 5years from now would happen again for the xda2i...so guys..keep your fingers crossed...and hope and pray for that day...looool!
but if you think there something more to it then this then please feel free to post in all the posibilities there could ever be about why there hasnt been any attempts whatso ever for the release of a wm5 for the alpine...i mean isnt there anyway you could modify the himalaya rom to work on the alpine...this just sooooooooooooooooooooooooo annoying...constantly researching day and night only to get a bunch of meaningless results..arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wm6 rom for expreimantal purpose
Description:
This file is an experimental download. We are not sure as to which device this will work on as the contributor of the file wasn't sure themselves. This file has therefore been posted as an experimental file for people to customize and play and experiment with to see if it can be used as a rom file for our devices.
thanks

Sucessfully downloaded and installed the WWE imate ROM on their web site and reinstalled all apps without any problem.
Maybe I am too quick to conclusions, but I noticed NO CHANGE AT ALL!!!
Bluetooth is exactly as before, call quality is unchanged, the *&^%* Jam still cannot send anything by Infrared and worse, the Camera quality is now worse than pre patch!
Overall not a bad upgrade really, just a waste of time and effort!
I finally got all my apps installed as well. Wasn't easy. And to sum it all up, I didn't notice any discernable differences. Sound quality is the same. Stability is the same.
Anyone know what fixes and updates were supposed to be included in the update? Or did anyone find anything at all to be any different?
The only thing I can tell that it did was make my mp3's sound horrible. Very muddy sounding. I'm about to odwnload pocket music and see if the eq on there can fix it. Also looking for a way to downgrade.
Question for you imaters:
I had an imate for 3 weeks and sent it back to Amazon, bought the MDA Compact instead.
T_mobile has no support for this phone : they built correctly the first time
BT Active Sync with PC, no problem, but I never managed this with Imate
BT with GPS, worked with both IMATE & MDA
The MDA rom is stable, has good sound, photo's are ok, like all HTC devices.
So why not just leave Imate and change to the MDA UK Rom??

This makes sense as the operators often do a fair amount of the own device QA, change requests, etc. when they look at any new device. If they don't, they pay for it in customer support. Imate being a relatively new company has yet to prove whether or not it has the same structured approach to their product management. I tell you one thing, Imate will certainly not have the same amount of resources available to them nor will they have as much attention from HTC. That said there is a lot to be said for not being an operator when it comes to efficiency (but that is a different story). Enough editorial...
Does anyone know what the major differences are between the new imate ROM and the current MDA UK ROM? Has anyone used both and/or done a side by side comparison? Does it work on other networks? I'd be interested to hear more.
Ian Wood
I had both
I had both and the major difference lay in the sound and the Bluetooth. Which is why I sent the Imate back.
Besides that, I have had an XDA1, XDA2, and the mda is the most stable rom yet (though the 2003 SE was pretty good on XDA2)
Also price, Imate =389GBP, Amazon, MDA=240GBP, given that it works better, it was a no brainer here.

Is that with regards to stability and quality or are there more features as well? In your estimation, is the difference worth a full reinstall? Thanks for the feedback btw.
Ian
imho the new rom is NOT worth a hard reset and all the reinstalling/reconfiguring/resyncing that goes with it.
to be blunt, I cannot see the difference unless I REALLY go looking for it.
I did the upgrade no problems, and my sound quality is a bit better. (less tinny) I recommend that if you do the upgrade use a quality backup program like sprite backup. I simply restored my previous backup over this upgrade and it went smoothly. I understand a fresh start is also sometimes preferable for for testing and If no problems, then I stick with this. If I start having difficuties then I'll reboot. The reduced hassles makes the 20-30 bucks for sprite backup worth it.

where is the ROM for JAM WWE???
Click here to download the Arabic ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe (29 MB) or
Click here to download the Italian ma_cdlsku10_ita_10304_151_10100_ship.exe (26 MB) or
Select HTTP or FTP link to download the USA ROM ma_cdl_10600_150_11000_ship.exe (46 MB)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok my iMate JAM has this under device info:
ROM: 1.03.00 WWE
Radio: 1.01.00
ExtROM: 1.03.143WWE
But looking at the iMate website I cannot see a WWE ROM... can I use the USA ROM or should I wait for the WWE ROM?
Cannot get a ROM
I have tried following the link that everyone has for the ROM at:
ClubIMate . . .
ma_cdlsku1_wwe_10300_143_10100_ship.exe
ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe
But I get Page Cannot Be Displayed.
My previous experience with I-Mate, having bought a used JAM, was that I now had to buy a membership and get an ID and Password to get anything.
Does anyone have the file OFF SITE from the club, or does anyone have a password, yada yada?
Barring all that, has anyone built a better ROM than that? Is there a kitchen available for it?
And anyone looking for themes I am selling a collection of mine on eBay and offer to sell 6 for the price of 3 to anyone that references xda-developers . . . I hope you like.

any development on 2i???
What would happen if....
Hi,
I'm soon to receive an XDA IIi, and wonder what is the reason why one couldn't just stick WM 5.0 on it? What would happen, would it just refuse to boot up, or would it only not work 100%? Has anyone tried, or should I be the first guinea pig?
Thanks,
Truthiswithin
somebody tried it on a magic and it just said wrong model id something something
and would not even begin install
roms have to be 100% the same device in order to work so the leaked
himalaya beta 2005 rom cant work
Editing the Rom?
Thanks for the reply... but I don't quite get how this all works, couldn't you just modify the ROM to work with the Magician?
Would it make a difference that the XDA IIi is so much similar to the Himalaya? How do HP and Dell propose to offer upgrades for their machines? How will they modify the ROM, or will Microsoft do it for them?
Thanks again,
Truthiswithin
HTC gets the source from ms and include all the spcefic drivers and settings for their devices
then they pass on a basic rom to tmobile and o2 and all those critters
then they add all their stuff and release it
i've yet to see anybody porting a rom themselfs even though some people were looking into it back in the early xdaIIs days to try and get 2003SE to xda2 as far as i know they dident have any success
and xdaIIi just looks like xda2 they are not all that similar under the hood
with the wifi and the different cam and different cpu and .....
Has anyone tried this yet?
... (if you are curious, please please backup rom first).
I am one of those users who use and seriously assault their phone during its life, and I mainly require the HP's screenflap and (according to some) slightly better build quality.
Best regards,
Gabe
To my knowledge no one has tried this yet, because those that have, usually get stopped at these two points:
1. accessing the HP bootloader seems to elude people
2. managing to backup the 6828 rom also eludes people.
I imagine getting into the bootloader would be desimilar to accessing the atoms or the bootloader on other HP devices, although some have commented that the 6828 might not have abootloader as such but im pretty sure it has to have some form of bootloader.
Secondly since there is no 6828 rom released, unless you can make a working backup of the rom, no one is likely to try this.
Personally I think its a great idea, I like the 6828 however, the rom whilst stable, has a cpl of let downs, and ontop of that I like the o2 Media Plus app, I think the newest atom rom with this device would be ideal, but id say youll need to give ppl access to those two points mentioned before anyone attempts it.
Is atom hardware is same as Hp 6828, on few sites they said it's identical, but i'm not sure what kind of identical is it.
So can we run ROM for Atom into Hp 6828 (Like HTC Universal as: XDA exec, dopod 900 etc)
Thanks in advanced
hardware is identical, but i've not sem people run the rom of one in the other. People have extracted Atom apps (phone pad/dial) and installed them in the 6828 with no problems though.
Hmmm, Thanks for reply...
I think i'll start my experiment on my girlfriend's 6828. (I'm sure she wont complain cause I bought it for her) ;-D
Hope you post the results! I want to do the oposite - Flash HP's ROM into my Atom!
...are you SURE you want O2's ROM on a HP? >_>
u can flash 6828 with atom's rom, but there will be a lot of hardware issues... and believe me, u'll regret it..
A bit OT, but I have question about 6828. Is there any possibility to connect any USB device to it? I consider USB HDD 2,5". Please help.

nope, but there are ways to connect the miniSD card on your Atom to a PC as a Flash Drive.
Yeah, you need a feature called "USB Host". PPCs that have them are RARE, and unfortunately, the Atom doesn't have it, and O2/HP isn't known for supporting this feature.
So have you tried the flashing?
Please post results. I belive that if they are hardware identical it wont be a poroblem to flash it! Like I have flashed my old MDA compact with Qtek S100's flash!
I want to try the HP rom on my Atom mainly for the new camera software(they say it's better than the Atom's one)
In my honest opinion, I dont know why you would want to flash the HP to O2. The o2 rom is heavier and the features hardly used (unless of course you subscribe to o2's services)
I seriously think you are better off with the HP rom.
it's lighter faster and more reliable.
have you upgraded to the new 1.01 rom from HP?
Try that instead.

HP 6280
Can we run ROM for Atom Prophet_220734_2207114_024721(AKU2.3)
into Hp 6828
Thanks
Maybe not so ultimate a chicken??

I see you're running :
==Currently Using:==
O2 Xda Atom Not-Quite-The-Executive
CMOS: 55.44
BRD: C1
ROM: 20060721B1WWE
RDO: R060822N_MN2ARC_RS00013
EXT : EX0033
Does that work well on a std Atom?
Is there any benefit compared to version 20060414B1WWE?
Have you tried installing later exec ROM's too (think there was a later radio ROM from September 2006)?
If so, did it work?
Well, after doing this, I didn't dare to flash with any later ROMs. Why?
Because the ROM is hacked to OUTRIGHT LIE. As in, an ordinary Atom only has 128MB of internal RAM, but the ROM makes it say 192MB. Yes, 192MB. Because of this, I dare not flash with later ROMs. No telling what an unhacked , pure ROM might do to an ordinary Atom. (Yes, the ROM was supposedly HACKED to work on the Atom, by using the Atom Radio Rom 0822 in place of the Atom Exec stack. I think if we tried to use an AE pure ROM, we'd get a missing radio ROM later, since it uses different radio hardware.)
I only flashed to this one because I was having trouble with 20060414B1WWE battery life and drain. Noticed very little change (an extra hour or so after conditioning, battery doesn't drain as often - eventually replaced the original, which turned out to have 2 of its cells non-functional), although some here said this made the O2's default battery last MUCH longer. Others also reported screen flicker after flashing - which disappears in a matter of hours or only happens periodically, but I noticed no such issues.
Also, note that if you flash to the hacked ROM, it's harder to go back to the original if you have problems - since the new bootloader will not allow you to flash straight from it anymore.
The camera application is more stable when attempting to save to memory, and the phone reception is slightly better - but flashing to the hacked ROM is not recommended. There is little benefit far as I can see - even if the ROM is stable and my PPC still works the same - and the risk is rather high.
You can search this forum for the old threads when that ROM first came out. They should tell you what you need to know, and are answered by people with more experience than I have.
hi guys, I bought a BA recently, & I found this forum, HEAVEN!!!
I:
-play a lot of mp3 through earphone, TCPMP is my only player
-run on 3600mAh battery, battery life is my life
-play video clip @ <500kbps occasionally
-share file with other devices & active sync through BT
-do simple phone operations like sms & calling only, not using BT headset or what
-want stability
or which rom has least problem (& what are they?) apart from being free from any problems related to the above?
thanks for any possible guidance
generally, our WM6.0 or 6.1 is designed for latest handheld with vga screen, higher speed, better hardware so each ROM has its own characteristics... you should do trial and error... practices make perfect bro...
cheers
evo
PS:dont worry of making mistakes.. all the information that you need is here.. happy upgrading
I'm pretty new to BA like you are. What I've learned so far is that you need to try each ROM yourself and see how your device responds to it. I'm guessing that these BAs are like any other piece of computer hardware. You can have 5 devices all exactly alike and get 8 different responses as to which works best.
Some units have problems with Wifi depending on which ROM you use. That's been my biggest issue is trying to find a ROM that'll let me use Wifi without too many headaches. I've had mine for like a month or so now and I'm still flipping ROMs to compare.
Swampy just came out with a new one which I need to try, and Sundream mentioned he'll have a new one soon too. Xplode said he would a while back, but I'm still waiting on that one as well.
Unfortunately there isn't a sticky with a list of ROMs that list each person and their latest ROM. That would be incredibly handy and help clean up the forums a bit I'd think.
