Atom ROM on rw6828 ? - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Has anyone tried this yet?
... (if you are curious, please please backup rom first).
I am one of those users who use and seriously assault their phone during its life, and I mainly require the HP's screenflap and (according to some) slightly better build quality.
Best regards,
Gabe

To my knowledge no one has tried this yet, because those that have, usually get stopped at these two points:
1. accessing the HP bootloader seems to elude people
2. managing to backup the 6828 rom also eludes people.
I imagine getting into the bootloader would be desimilar to accessing the atoms or the bootloader on other HP devices, although some have commented that the 6828 might not have abootloader as such but im pretty sure it has to have some form of bootloader.
Secondly since there is no 6828 rom released, unless you can make a working backup of the rom, no one is likely to try this.
Personally I think its a great idea, I like the 6828 however, the rom whilst stable, has a cpl of let downs, and ontop of that I like the o2 Media Plus app, I think the newest atom rom with this device would be ideal, but id say youll need to give ppl access to those two points mentioned before anyone attempts it.

Same as Hp 6828

Is atom hardware is same as Hp 6828, on few sites they said it's identical, but i'm not sure what kind of identical is it.
So can we run ROM for Atom into Hp 6828 (Like HTC Universal as: XDA exec, dopod 900 etc)
Thanks in advanced
hardware is identical, but i've not sem people run the rom of one in the other. People have extracted Atom apps (phone pad/dial) and installed them in the 6828 with no problems though.
Hmmm, Thanks for reply...
I think i'll start my experiment on my girlfriend's 6828. (I'm sure she wont complain cause I bought it for her) ;-D
Hope you post the results! I want to do the oposite - Flash HP's ROM into my Atom!
...are you SURE you want O2's ROM on a HP? >_>
u can flash 6828 with atom's rom, but there will be a lot of hardware issues... and believe me, u'll regret it..
A bit OT, but I have question about 6828. Is there any possibility to connect any USB device to it? I consider USB HDD 2,5". Please help.

nope, but there are ways to connect the miniSD card on your Atom to a PC as a Flash Drive.
Yeah, you need a feature called "USB Host". PPCs that have them are RARE, and unfortunately, the Atom doesn't have it, and O2/HP isn't known for supporting this feature.
So have you tried the flashing?
Please post results. I belive that if they are hardware identical it wont be a poroblem to flash it! Like I have flashed my old MDA compact with Qtek S100's flash!
I want to try the HP rom on my Atom mainly for the new camera software(they say it's better than the Atom's one)
In my honest opinion, I dont know why you would want to flash the HP to O2. The o2 rom is heavier and the features hardly used (unless of course you subscribe to o2's services)
I seriously think you are better off with the HP rom.
it's lighter faster and more reliable.
have you upgraded to the new 1.01 rom from HP?
Try that instead.

Can we run ROM for Atom Prophet_220734_2207114_024721(AKU2.3)
into Hp 6828
Thanks

I see you're running :
==Currently Using:==
O2 Xda Atom Not-Quite-The-Executive
CMOS: 55.44
BRD: C1
ROM: 20060721B1WWE
RDO: R060822N_MN2ARC_RS00013
EXT : EX0033
Does that work well on a std Atom?
Is there any benefit compared to version 20060414B1WWE?
Have you tried installing later exec ROM's too (think there was a later radio ROM from September 2006)?
If so, did it work?
Well, after doing this, I didn't dare to flash with any later ROMs. Why?
Because the ROM is hacked to OUTRIGHT LIE. As in, an ordinary Atom only has 128MB of internal RAM, but the ROM makes it say 192MB. Yes, 192MB. Because of this, I dare not flash with later ROMs. No telling what an unhacked , pure ROM might do to an ordinary Atom. (Yes, the ROM was supposedly HACKED to work on the Atom, by using the Atom Radio Rom 0822 in place of the Atom Exec stack. I think if we tried to use an AE pure ROM, we'd get a missing radio ROM later, since it uses different radio hardware.)
I only flashed to this one because I was having trouble with 20060414B1WWE battery life and drain. Noticed very little change (an extra hour or so after conditioning, battery doesn't drain as often - eventually replaced the original, which turned out to have 2 of its cells non-functional), although some here said this made the O2's default battery last MUCH longer. Others also reported screen flicker after flashing - which disappears in a matter of hours or only happens periodically, but I noticed no such issues.
Also, note that if you flash to the hacked ROM, it's harder to go back to the original if you have problems - since the new bootloader will not allow you to flash straight from it anymore.
The camera application is more stable when attempting to save to memory, and the phone reception is slightly better - but flashing to the hacked ROM is not recommended. There is little benefit far as I can see - even if the ROM is stable and my PPC still works the same - and the risk is rather high.
You can search this forum for the old threads when that ROM first came out. They should tell you what you need to know, and are answered by people with more experience than I have.

Questions from a new(bie) Mogul owner

Hi all,
Please go easy on me here, as I have some probably pretty basic questions. I have been digging around the internet (mostly these forums) for the past two days since I got my new Mogul from Sprint running WM6. I had the PPC-6700 prior to this (as I expect most of you had) and I was fairly good at tinkering on that one, but I'm on new ground here with WM6 and a new phone.
First, I am a little confused by all the names.
For sure, I know that this phone can be called the Titan, the Mogul, or the PPC-6800. What I'm not sure of is that some people also call this the Hermes or the TyTn. I figured Titan and TyTn were the same things, but apparently not.
The main reason I'm asking is so that when I am looking for information and posts on this phone, which can I use and which should I disregard. It seems that many of the things posted under the Hermes forum are valid for the Mogul as well, but alas..I'm confused.
Once we get names settled, I'm going to start with only one other question that I have dire need for. I have looked around for answers and most are many months old, so I have to think that there are some more recent findings. My question regards Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 with a BT headset on this phone.
I have installed MS VC 1.6 and paired my new Cardo Scala 800 headset. It seems to work with the following problems:
1) BT quality is not great, including VC voice getting cut off. This is my first BT headset with this phone, and I have read that many people have poor BT quality with this phone. If that's the case, can anyone recommend a BT headset that works well with this phone (preferablly one that charges directly via mini-USB).
2) Confirmation don't work - based on what I have read this is a problem with all WM6 phones with VC 1.6. It appears the only solution is to disable confirmations completely. I have done this and it appears to be able to function. I just want to confirm that there isn't any newer data out there for this issue.
3) Last issue is that I don't get notifications. Meaning, when an incoming call comes in I get the ringing sound, but it doesn't tell me the name. In my searches I came across this posting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881&page=51
It is for the Hermes (again..confused) but contains a zip file with 4 files to copy over the default VC files. When I did this and reset my phone, notifications seem to work. I want to make sure that this is the best way to get VC 1.6 working as fully as possible on this phone.
I really appreciate any feedback you can give.... I have a few more questions, but I'll wait till we get these squared away.
Thanks to all!
Well, I've not been a Mogul owner for much longer than you, and certainly have been a PPC owner less (this is my first PPC), however let me try to answer a few of your questions.
First, the "Sprint Mogul" is Sprint's name for this phone. The phone "codename" of sorts is the Titan, and model is the PPC-6800. Hopefully I got that all right. Bottom line, they all refer to the same phone. Also, different cell companies have different names for phones, so it can get a little confusing sometimes.
Now the TyTN is the same device as the Hermes, aka the 8525. From what I've gathered in my short experience, this is basically the same same phone as the Titan, however, it's the AT&T GSM version. Where we have CDMA and EVDO, it has GSM and HSDPA.
The files get tricky too, and you have to know your way around the system before you try replacing files from other phones. A lot of files (and issues) are general for WM6. That means that any device running WM6 may have these same files, behaviors, or issues. However, with that said, certain files are specific to the network. Some of the things like dialers are coded for GSM on one phone, and CDMA on another. So if you think it might have anything to do with the network, double check before you replace it from another phone that's on a different network. In your case, the voice command thing is general to WM6, so grabbing the files from the Hermes was ok.
The bluetooth? Well, that's a question a lot of us still have. The bluetooth on these phones suck. I've heard a lot of people say it's HTC's fault, and I've also heard a few people say WM6 just isn't good with BT anyway. I personally haven't gotten into what's wrong with it much yet, so I can't tell you exactly the issues, but we can only hope for a firmware and/or software update in the future that will help these problems.
I know that if you look around, I've seen lists where people have listed which BT headsets seem to work well, and which don't. The only I have, and thus have tested, is a Jawbone, and I can report, as well as tell you from reading, it's one of the better BT headsets for this phone. It's a little expensive though, so it's not in everyone's price range. Unfortunately I can't help much past that since I've never used any other, but if you search you can probably find threads like I mentioned and just get feedback from other people.
Also, I've never played with Voice Command, so I can't answer any more specific questions on that subject. Hopefully I helped clear a few things up. As I said, I'm definitely still learning myself, but I've been taking in all kinds of information. I love this phone and don't see how I've survived without a PocketPC before.
Ajerman,
Thanks for your input. Ok that makes sense regarding the AT&T GSM version. I think most of what I will want to tweak will be related to WM6 and not carriers.
Unfortunately my Cardo 800 BT headset is my first headset too, and this is the first time I'm using it with the phone. So, I too don't have anything to gauge it against. I'm probably going to return the headset however as it was advertised as having a mini-usb charging jack, when infact it has a micro-usb. I saw the jawbone, looks nice, but again, I only want a headset that uses a mini-usb jack (too many adapters to carry around).
My next questions (hopefully someone can address), is unlocking the Extended ROM for customization. I did this on the PPC-6700 WM5 with an Extended rom unlocker tool and modified the config.txt in there to automatically install certain apps upon hard-reset.
I need to assist the mobile admins at my company with setting everyone's phone up with some additional settings en masse.
Is it safe to use the same procedures on WM6? I'm probably going to try it anyway but thought someone could point me to a good primer on upgrading my skills from WM5 to WM6.
Any more input is valued!
thanks

Does anyone have a working fix for this?

Hey guys - this may be already dealt with, but I can't seem to find a workaround anywhere that flies, so please either furnish me with an answer, or direct me elsewhere if it's already been covered and I've been too damn dumb to see it.
Long story short, I'm really itching to play a few games on this phone - I own two MDA Touch Plus' and an MDA Touch (UK T-Mob) (or two Niki's and an Elf, if you prefer), and would love to know if anyone's managed a successful BT network between these PDAphones without resorting to additional hardware or connecting to a PC also?
I'm not interested in ICS etc via BT, simply being able to connect the phones for multiplayer games (Warfare Inc is high on the list ).
I've tried the wm6btpan.exe fix, and have had no luck with, and can't seem to find any reference to a widcomm hack for niki or other resolution.
Damn HTC for taking the WiFi out of the Elf > Niki, life would be so much easier if both were still there...HSDPA or no, don't they realise WiFi was more than just internet access - especially with the crappy m$btstack removing bluetooth as a usable alternative?
Anyhoo, I digress.
Ideally, I don't want to resort to cooked ROMs, ar anything too harsh, as my phones are all still within warranty (and even working for t-mob I can't afford to replace em all if they brick), but would love to hear if anyones got this working at all?
My multiplayer withdrawal is becoming unbearable!!!!
HELP PLEASE!

what's the most suitable WM6.1 ROM for me? ^ ^

hi guys, I bought a BA recently, & I found this forum, HEAVEN!!!
I:
-play a lot of mp3 through earphone, TCPMP is my only player
-run on 3600mAh battery, battery life is my life
-play video clip @ <500kbps occasionally
-share file with other devices & active sync through BT
-do simple phone operations like sms & calling only, not using BT headset or what
-want stability
or which rom has least problem (& what are they?) apart from being free from any problems related to the above?
thanks for any possible guidance
generally, our WM6.0 or 6.1 is designed for latest handheld with vga screen, higher speed, better hardware so each ROM has its own characteristics... you should do trial and error... practices make perfect bro...
cheers
evo
PS:dont worry of making mistakes.. all the information that you need is here.. happy upgrading
I'm pretty new to BA like you are. What I've learned so far is that you need to try each ROM yourself and see how your device responds to it. I'm guessing that these BAs are like any other piece of computer hardware. You can have 5 devices all exactly alike and get 8 different responses as to which works best.
Some units have problems with Wifi depending on which ROM you use. That's been my biggest issue is trying to find a ROM that'll let me use Wifi without too many headaches. I've had mine for like a month or so now and I'm still flipping ROMs to compare.
Swampy just came out with a new one which I need to try, and Sundream mentioned he'll have a new one soon too. Xplode said he would a while back, but I'm still waiting on that one as well.
Unfortunately there isn't a sticky with a list of ROMs that list each person and their latest ROM. That would be incredibly handy and help clean up the forums a bit I'd think.

[Q] Changing ROM of a China Phone

Hey,
I've got an MF68 / IP800 (It got so many names that I prefer to call it "Horza", sounds pro - There will be a picture of it on the bottom of this post) and it came with a Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional - CE 5.2.23090 (Comp. 23090.5.3.0) - Yup, it ain't a rip-off windows. It's a rather good phone, with a slow-but-does-whatever-I-throw-at-it processor "HUAWEI HiSilicon K3", running at 360MHz (I've seen versions running at 460, if anyone knows how to overclock it, it would be welcome), 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM; all those controlled by a 240x400 3" resistive screen. Not a lamborghini but does the job well done.
Anyhoo, I want to change the ROM. Somehow it limits my volume to 63%. It might be good for my ears, but it's a real pain when I connect it to an external speaker. Also, there's a few ROM's possessing some sleek features that I'd love to use. But there's three problems:
1 - It's a dual-SIM phone (the actual ROM seems to be adapted, or something, for this - due to the poor, china-style, translation in the Dual-SIM Setup area)
2 - It's a china phone, thus I don't know what I'm supposed to do or if it's able to
3 - I only have the original USB Cable. Will it work or I need some sort of special cable?
So, what should I do? Will it be able to update? Which programs should I get?
Thanks for the attention and I'm awaiting for an answer
Sincerely,
GTMoraes
well if you say that its a legit windows mobile device then you should be able to have themes for it however, some things like hardware issues are going to get in your way.
1. Dual-SIM
2. Screen Resolution (not anytheme will work)
3. Thats all i can think of...
4. Will think of other stuff and come back to you
Yup, I can use some themes for my WM, I've got tired of the Titanium style and ATM I'm using the SPB Shell, works like a charm.
The actual O.S. works fine, but it's limiting the volume to 63% (according to 40iPlay and proved through external speakers). I've googled around and it looks like an European or something limitation, removeable only with a new ROM - so here am I.
Is there any program that I should run to see if my phone is compatible with ROM updating?
Thanks for you answer and I'm awaiting for new ones
P.S.: Anything related to the Samsung i900 works flawlessly on the Horza. So does the HTC gSensor
I have a China LEO 8585 and have yet to find a custom rom myself.. sorry bud.
