Ms Voice Command 1.6 + wired headset = failure - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi guys,
Well, here's the thing:
I'm don't like the WM6-roms, because they drain the battery in less than a day (checked with different batteries). Anyway, because of that i'm still using a cooked rom (helmi i think), but that rom came without voice dail/recognition.
So i downloaded Ms Voice Command 1.6 and installed the program on my Universal. So far so good...
But here comes the problem; i have to address a button to Voice Commander, and because i'm using a wired headset (the one that T-mobile delivers with the Universal) it doesn't recognize the button on the wired headset.
According to Voice Command i have to go to <start>, <settings>, <buttons> to assign a button. That's ok, but since there are only 4 buttons (camara, light, videodial and message), how do i assign a function to the wired headset-button (button 5 i presume) ?
PS: strange face: i can answer and end a call with that wired headset-button :-x

who's bluetooth headset is working well with Voice Command

registry hack.
I have a SE 662 headset and it will only work once, after that it seems like the gate is left in 'limbo' you cannot use the headset to 'initiate' VC again.
One warm reboot you can then use it once again.
I'm interested which headsets are working well, I've head about the bluespoon X2 but I can't find that on the UK websites.
Let me know.
Thanks.
Jabra.
Jabra, is that the 250 or the 800?
Thanks for the reply
the jabra headsets are real good. i use the bt250v with my wizard and the 800 with my universal, and they are amazing. performance is great, battery life is superb.
ciao!
my jabra BT330
is working great !!!!!!!!
I use my Wizard with a Motorola HS801 Bluetooth Headset! Works well with it! ;-)
peteborota: I was given a Sony headset to use with the Universal to figure out some hacks (search for VJElectrify), and I also found that after the first use of voice command, the audio gateway is left open. I made an app (VJVolubilis) to close the gateway, disable bluetooth, reopen bluetooth, repair and then open the gateway again. It works, but it's a damn longwinded way to re-gain control of VC.
However, since the guy that gave me the headset had successfully been using it with VC on the same hardware (Universal), I think there may be a software combination causing this spazz up. I will hardreset at some point and try again, but I'd be interested in feedback on this issue as well.
V
my Sony-Ericsson HBH-660 works perfect with my Wizard
Motorola H500 works great too
Plantronics Voyager 510 works too
Plantronics Voyager 510 - excellent
Moto 810 works well. One thing I did notice is that there is about a 1-2 second delay in ability to recognize commands.
My Moto HS810 works with voice command (more than once, but you have to press the button on the headset 3 times to get it to trigger VC)
voyager 510 did not trigger vc at all.. ever.
moto H700 triggered only once then I had to reboot the phone.
mototola h820,
motorola h820 works perfectly, even with clam shell closed, the salesmen in the store dealing with the headsets advised me that motorolla bosted much further range and battery life over most other headsets, he also said that the nokia head sets, had the worst range and battery life, may be just his expert opinion, but I've been very happy with my choice
Re: mototola h820,
I use nokia HD3-w and it works good, but i have a serious problem with imate k-jam.because when i press and hold the bluetooth button it doesn't wake up the device when it is in standby mode but when i double press the bluetooth button it works on dialing the last number.does anyone have the same problem.
and also i want to know how often do you put your device on standby mode because i usually press the power button after using the device for example after a call.
thanks for sharing
I HAVE BEEN USING MY 4 YEARS OLD BLUESPOON.
LOVE IT..
IN THE US YOU CAN GET IT AT SOME RADIO SHACK, THE LOWEND VERSION,
Tamoochin,
I have the Jabra BT500 and it does the same thing your headset does - If I hold down the button for one second on the BT500, it wakes up the phone and dials the last number dialed. Like you, I turn off the power on the phone after each call. If I lightly tap on the BT500 button, the Blue Angel wakes up, and the headset symbol shows up in the top bar on the phone.
This leads me to believe that the Blue Angel could be programmed to start voice command instead of do the redial. Does anyone know how to do this. I have a PH20A (xv6600 from Verizon). I have Verizon's latest ship ROM and I've added Broadcom's High Quality Stereo A2DP profile which works great with the Bluetake Iphono 450rx stereo bluetooth headset.
Someone out there must know how to go into the registry and change the redial command to start voice command.
i have the logitech mobile freedom. if the device is out of standby then it work perfect with one tap. if it is on standby i get one tap and it does nothing. two taps and it wakes the device and three taps and the voice command comes on. doesn't work perfect but it works.
Nokia HS-21W - works flawlessly...
//NoX
My HBH-662 and a Jabra BT200 both only work once per soft-reset. This is after a hard reset, only apps installed are Total Commander and Voice Command.
Also happens with three ROM revisions: The hacked O2 one, The Qtek 1671, and the new Qtek 208 with Push e-mail.
Maybe somehow we have different builds of Voice Command installed? My version number from the control panel applet is 1.50.4333.24.
I hope we can get to the bottom of this, Voice Command is a great tool, especially considering how unweildy the 9100 is to dial in the car.

How to detect pressing button on headset?

Does any known how to detect when user press answer button on headset? What event or message generated by system? I find only some event that occurs when user insert headset jack in phone.
The AG service gets a "AT+CKPD=200" message
What i'm interestet in ; How do you send these AT commands ?
I'm sorry, but what is "AG service"?
Audio Gateway.
As far as I remember WM5 has standart API to register AG message handler. WM2003SE and older don't have a standart way.
It's not good. I'm interested in WM2003
Voice Dialing via Bluetooth NOT available on Atom
I thought that when I bought my Atom I would have voice dialing over a Bluetooth Headset. My friend has an Exec and it works fine. However, not with the Atom. Even the latest ROM doesn't support it. I have 4 headsets, all pair in Handsfree profile, all have call answering, call ending and last number re-dial working perfectly, but none will initiate voice dialing with the Atom, but all will voice dial with my Nokia 6230.
Therefore it is not a WM5 built in feature and is still ROM dependant. It doesn't matter whether you use the built in voice program, Vito, Neuvoice or M$ Voicedial, the stack simply won't support the AT command.
C'mon O2, it's about the only thing that is crook with the Atom. Other than that it is just the worlds best pda/phone!

Couldn't agree more!
About voice dialer. I thought it was just because Atom needs bluetooth headset button to be pressed for a while to launch dialer. It acts so with wired headset. Unfortunately, i have just one bluetooth headset to play with. And it turns off after 2 sec. holding the button.
On my Dopod 818pro everything acts like a charm (VD runs after a single press), so it isn't a WM5 bug.
can someone enable activating MS Voice Command from a wired headset for WM5?
it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
I have the same problem using a bluetooth headset but if I use the wired headset supplied with my Atom it works fine.
that's good news. so, many OEMs are realizing the importance of this feature. so far, they have it in the Treo 700w and according to you, the Atom.
btw, did you have MS Voice Command pre-installed in your Atom, or did you buy it separately?
thanks,
The talk button on the wired headset is a "fake" button. It generates an special pattern in the recorded audio that it's recognized by the phone application.

Are you sure about that?
I've disembled quite a few headsets and the usual way is to shortcircut the mic-wire with one of the stereo-wires, whitch in return has to be cought by the mainboard and then translated to a command.
I'm not sure, but seems pretty feasible. That button is only used by the phone applicacion, which needs to open the wave input device.
Detecting the button pressing is pretty simple: recording at 16 bits, the average of the absolute value of the samples in complete silence is at least 100, with the talk button pressed, 6 or 7.

Prophet Bluetooth voice dailling

My "old" P800 was able to announce who was calling in my Bluetooth headset. After pushing a button on my Bluetooth headset I was able to do voice dialling. It could even pick up the call without pushing a button on Bluetooth headset.
Can wm 2005 on the Prophet do all this?
I have this working on my Jamin without any hacks
Care to share how? I just got a JAMin. No mention of voice dial except by launching program and certainly no mention of BT button. Pairs with my Plantronics M3000 fine but BT button doeas nothing. Any ideas?

Query to Wardy about Bluetooth Headset & Voice command
Hi Wardy does your Jamin let you control MS Voice command using the button on the BT headset? Or do you have to press the voice command button on the PDA and then talk through the headset?
Voice Command, once it is installed on the Prophet, works just like it did on the Magician. However, the Prophet (at least in Jamin flavor) has an app that lets you create voice tags to control most of it's functions, and this app can be started by using the button on your bluetooth headset (and accepts audio from your bluetooth headset). There are a few limitations, though: you have to create a voice tag for every single item that you want it to launch... and you can't create a voice tag for Voice Command :?. In other words, it is (as far as I'm concerned) completely worthless

Hi no sorry I am using the supplied voice command software. Its not a problem for me putting voise dial numbers in and I believe it gives better recognition than text to speach. But that's my view

Bluetooth voice dialing doesn't work on US TMo MDA

I just got this device, and I'm mostly pleased with it after applying various tweaks thanks to the fine people on this board. One problem I'm having though, is I am not able to voice dial contacts using my bluetooth headset. I have a Plantronics M3500 paired up with the device using hands-free profile, however pressing the button on the headset doesn't do anything to the MDA no matter if it is on or in standby mode. I saw messages on here that other people have this working, but so far, I haven't been able to. Is there something special that needs to be done? It worked fine for me on my Sony Ericsson P900 phone. Any suggestions are welcome. TIA.
Nevermind....
Uh... sorry just figured it out. It does work, but differently from my P900. I used to just press the button on the bluetooth headset, but with the Wizard, I have the hold down the button for a couple of seconds. Perhaps something to do with the hands-free vs. headset profile.
Are you using the stock voice dialer or Voice Command? I have been trying to find a way to activate Voice Command via the bluetooth headset button, without any success.

No, I'm just using the stock voice dialer. The headset is paired up with the MDA using the hands-free profile. When I press the button on the bluetooth headset and hold it for 2 seconds, I hear a litte tone and the MDA 'wakes up'. As I said in the message above, with my Sony Ericsson P900 phone, I used to just have to click the button, and the phone would go into voice dial. I'm guessing that the difference may be due to using the hands-free profile vs. the headset profile that was used with the P900.

Follow these directions, works great...
Install Voice Command to the default location.
Fire up a registry editor
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand
Modify the string marked "path" from the default \Windows\SDDialer.exe to \Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe
Now, when you press your BT headset connect button, MS Voice command will fire up and take commands through the headset. It's reponses will be played through the headset too.
Yeah, what Dustoff said. The other thing to remember (I learned it from these forums) is that you need to press the headset button twice to fully disconnect from the MDA. The first click disconnects from Voice Command, the second click disconnects from the audio gateway.

The keyword in your request is BlueAngel. This registry hack is for the wizard only. I am not familiar with how to do it for the BA.
Sorry...
sorry, i saw the info, got excited and didn't notice the type of phone listed.

Voice Command 1.6 UK working with Trinity!

After all the problems with Voice Command 1.6 and BT headsets I had with the Trinity and WM5, I just got an unexpected bonus.
Last night I decided to install mUn's TE of WM6.
I set up TomTom and Mobile Device Center 6.1 etc.
This morning I thought I might just try Voice Command. So I installed the UK 1.6 version, paired my headset (a Motorola H500) and changed the default mapping for "Button 1" back to the way I like it (CommManager).
Lo and behold pressing the BT headset button activates Voice Command. And it even appears to be working through the headset mic.
I put my phone face down 10 feet away and whispered a command which worked!
hoorah.
I hope it keeps working now ;-)
