Help regarding O2 Mini - MDA Compact II General

I want to backup the contacts but not using the computer. In my XDA Exec, I just copy a file in the root directory by the name of pim. When I copy this file onto any other windows device, it automatically gets me all the contacts, last calls, calender. etc. Is there any such file in O2 mini also. And can I replace it with one on O2 XDA Exec and vice-versa?

But o2 mini is not charmer. Charmer ist ONLY Mda Compact 2 from t.mobile.
Back to your problem: do not do this if you like your contacts. It's the direct way to hell. PIM database must not be compatible between different versions of OS in your device (yes, i have tested it, the last problem I remember was crossing between aku2 and aku3.3 on charmer). Often it is, but sometimes it isn't. The best way to backup is to use outlook sync. However if you cannot use it for some resons, try some of free utlilities that are using csv export/import
must go now, will edit later

o2 mini contacts to P910i

Hey is there a way to copy contacts from o2 mini to P910i
thankyou
o2 xda mini contacts to sony ericsson p910i
synchronizing the information between the xda mini and the p910i is very easy... the first you would need would be a PC or Mac.
by synchronizing your data onto MS Outlook on WindozeXP and/or MS Entourage or Apple Address Book on Mac OS X (using third party PocketMac Pro), you can now update both mini and p910 ... i would suggest though if you would like to synchronize and use both smartphones, try and keep your contacts with the XDA Mini format since the mini has a limited number of entries compared to the p910.
hit me up if you have questions, i do this regularly between my xda 2s, p910 and Mac .. sometimes i do this for my pc as well ...
I think both also have software that can export to a file, eg .csv, and import them likewise.

unfortunately
Hey unfortunaately i had to get rid of the xda o2s all i have is the backup file of my contacts is there a xbackup software i could use to get my contacts frm the backedup file into the p910i
I would suggest you not to get rid of your O2.
For the PDA, the sync plays the most important part.
I have almost 5000 contacts and have been using
Palm, Treo 600/650, Pocketpc
All works without problem. Choosing between palm vs ppc is another topic, not disucss here. But both palm and ppc can deliver the expected data sync between your PC and device.
BUT THE PCSuite sync for P910i is BROKEN, for sync it can talk an hour which just take few seconds to mintues (first sync).
and with P910 sycn software - there is GUARANTEE record LOSS.
BEWARE of this.

Hi,
Does that mean you never sync'd your O2 with Outlook or you have the backup as well?
There must be a tool out there to pull out of xbackup but the it'll not be easy. I use Outlook for everything and to sync everything so that my contact and calendar list are all in the one place and its the phones that are updated from it, much easier.
SOrry,

is there ?
Hey is there a chance i could uplode my backedup contacts to one of u guys by mail and u can send it to me in .cvs or txt format plz

apple / mac and XDA Exec (Universal)

Im sort of happy with my exec, its just that id love to sync it properly with my powerbook...
I cant even use the Exec as a cardreader, for instance when I connect via USB nothing happens...
Anybody had some success?
thanks stephan
I used to be able to sync to my mac using PocketMacPro using my MDA3 - havent got round to trying it with my MDA PRO yet though!
Try it!
PocketMacPro hasn't yet been updated to work with the Universal (or anything running Windows Mobile 5.0) nor has the other syncing solution, KitchenSync. Who knows how long it'll take....
I've been copying files back and forth using an SD card. Bluetooth is useable too but it takes ages to transfer anything. Make sure you regularly backup the file pim.vol that can be found in the root directory of your device, it contains all your contact, calendar... etc information.

Does anyone know how to copy contacts from BA to Charmer

I have just moved up to the Charmer (Compact 2) and was wondering if there is an easy way to copy all contacts from my BA running Windows Mobile 2003 SE to my Compact running Windows mobile 5. I know I can probably use infrared/Bluetooth but was hoping for a straight drag and drop. Any help as always appreciated.
Thanks JD76
I would suggest that you do a active syn to your Outlook in your PC for easy and sure transfers of your contacts.
Another way is to save your contacts on the SIM. Read

Or, save the PIM into your SD card. However, I'm not sure if this works for cross platform from WM2K to WM5. Read

Thanks Hamin much appreciated. You pointed me to a couple of good links. Nice to know the true spirt of the group still exists. By checking the links out it may be possible to copy all my data from my BA to my Charmer, including txt msgs etc? This is very much appreciated. Thanks again...JD76
Harmin thanks but checked out the links. The contact copier only applies to WM5 so can't copy from 2003 to WM5 also on my BA has the ability to backup contacts using a program but my charmer does not have a tool for restoring my contacts..so back to the drawing board. Thanks JD76.

Cingular stores here in the US will do this for you for free. Just take them your old phone and your new phone and they will move stuff across (so that might be an easy solution if your provider will do similar).
Outside of that, you could maybe use PIMBackup (I haven't looked at the format of the file directly but I thought it was just a CSV type file) and then use a similar tool to import to your new phone.
Another option would be to get a copy of a SyncML program for your PPC device and use that to sync to a free SyncML server. Nokia phones have this built in so you could then use the new phone to pull down the contacts from that server. (Do a google search for free SyncML servers. there used to be a few. You can search here in this forum as I've posted some examples a few months ago).
But there should be a way to copy the contacts on my qtek to my simcard in teh qtek and then import my contacts to the n95 by inserting my simcard in my n95.
Greetings
I'd like to do the same.
Kind of.
I have over 100 numbers on my SIM but I only use like 30. So I want to delete all the ones I have on there and sync my contacts that I have on my phone to my SIM.
Does the N95 sync with Outlook on your PC?
If so, sync all your contacts to your PC, then sync them back to your N95 maybe??

How to Copy SMS and Contacts from Touch HD to Touch HD2

Hi Everybody.
I try to copy all my Sms and contacts from my HTC Touch HD to HTC Touch HD2.
I tried with Windows My Phone (Sync).
It worked half way... but once u want to see couple of sms it will slow down.
After that my whole phone almost freeze.
So i reboot and i had to use also once Reset "close to batt." (soft reset?).
I would love to use my new HD2 if i can solve this problem...
Then i can give my HD1 to my Girlfriend
any idea?
Thx in advance
Very very simple: I've migrated from TyTN II to HD2.
Install Microsoft MyPhone on "old" device, sync what you need.
Then install Microsoft MyPhone on "new" device, then sync again.
VoilĂ !
If you don't want/have online connection, you can use the old good PIM Backup.
I prefer the first method, I've used it to sync:
contacts, calendar, tasks, SMS.
Thx for your reply...
the thing is its not working fully as i wrote before.
thats what i did.
it was super simple... but!
my HD2 is going about 10 times slower once i open a sms.
Sure i have about 3000sms if not more.
But still it works nice on HD1.
So i wonder what i have to change in HD2 to make it work smooth.
HI jisin,
this is a known "bug" on the HD2. If you have to much SMS the device gets very slow.
The HTC Sense is the problem, it can not handle so much sms. I had 1600 and it was very slow. I can not write a sms, the contacts are very slow.
I sync. all my sms with "my phone" software and archived all sms. After a next sync all sms on my hd2 are deleted and i have my backup if i need some of this sms again.
I think this is a good solution until HTC released a hotfix for this problem.
Txfer SMS & contacts
PIM Backup for SMS.
For contacts, if you copy your pim.vol file from device\ (root)folder of your Tytn to the device\ folder of the HD2, voila, all your contacts and appointments are copied instantly, without the potential for duplicate/multiple copies.
I copy it to my sd card, then to device\ using fexploreext, then restart .
You could use totalcommander.
If you've just used MyPhone to sync your contacts and messages from one phone to another, just open the MyPhone web interface and archive your messages there. Once done, you can delete them all and redo the sync. That will delete all your messages from your phone, but keep the archive online.
I know it's a pain that the UI doesn't like us having messages (almost as if we shouldn't be using our phones for things like contacting people!). I'm really hoping that this will be one of the issues that HTC address sooner, rather than later!

Works like charm thx m8! Just wanted to add that the cab file (fexploreext) changes just the original explorer (its not a new program - I was looking for it in the installed programs section and couldnt find it ).
