Well cheers for your help, and as i put in my question i have and did use the answer i was given last year. But when i push the button to lock my phone the tomtom no longer gives out vurbal directions and its only upon unlocking the screen/phone again does tomtom carry on working and giving vurbal directions.
help cheers
I use pLock for the reasons you state and I can confirm the navigation prompts will continue. Make sure pLock is selected for display on the today screen and not the similar standard lock feature.

Hi Guys,
I use TomTom Navigator with earphones when walking around (interviews and the like). There is no way to lock TomTom Navigator and the Today Screen lock plugin stops TomTom updating.
Because I'm walking and have earphones I just want my phone in my pocket, who want's to be carrying a £400 phone out in their hand in London? Problem is I can't find anything to lock the screen. It has to be triggerable from a hardware button and not take focus from TomTom... Has anyone else come across a program that does this?
Thanks
I've found ScreenLock.PPC2003.cab.
This is 99% what I'm after. It locks all but the dial and end keys and the main problem was the locking of the screen.
I'm still after better options if anyone has any, but if not this will do.
I use my 8525 in a side case and when the phone rings I usually pull out the phone to see who's calling to decide if i want to answer... though 9 out of 10 times i accidentally hit the answer button. I always lock my phone via device lock on today screen... is there a reg hack or setting which will allow me to disable or customize ALL the buttons (when in lock mode) on the 8525 so I don't accidentally answer. to me if i were to assign a button (ie power or ptt) to only be allowed to accept a call (when the phone is in lock mode) that'd be great. I'm tired of auto answering and what good does a device lock do if you can easily auto answer?
bumping this back up... Can I be the only one with this issue? If so how do you use your phone and not auto answer?

Sorry you're not getting replies and I have no solution of the type you are looking for sadly. I've tried to replicate what you say happens but it's not easy!!! My key is not that easily pressed and I always put the device back with screen towards my body - my fingers don't seem to get very close to the green button.
This is probably daft to suggest but have you checked the setting that lets you specify auto answer within X number of rings - just in case it's answering the call by itself!!. (apologies if you checked this setting already!!)

Auto Answer is not set... the problem is (and it's a problem with the phone design) when the phone is locked none of the buttons respond until you hit the power button and then unlock the phone via the screen (which is good).
However when there is an incoming call or reminder the screen turns on and then a few buttons are active on the phone (send, end and the two soft keys seem to be). So when a phone call comes in, if the phone is in your pocket or the hip case while reaching for the phone it's VERY easy to accidentally press any of the active buttons and then accidentally accept or reject that call.
I've searched everywhere I can think of and I find little mention of this problem and no mention of a fix, most screen lock replacements only do as much locking as the WM5 built in lock does. The button re-activation after an incoming call is probably something built into the hardware. That's all I can deduce from this.
Thanks for the responses I've received so far.
I am on my fourth PDA phone and have used both Win Mobile 2003 and WM5. They all behaved this way and it is one of my biggest complaints with the Windows OS. I have seen apps for Palm that solve the problem. How hard could it be to have the option to only wake with the press of the power button?!
not hard at all, but the again its M$, i am surprised these devices to have ctrl-alt-del keys.
Hello,
I'd like to use my HD with Tomtom on my motorbike (HD in the pocket, navigation instructions over to my Sony bluetooth headset).
Trouble is, of course, that in my pocket, the screen is pressed and Tomtom exits.
Is there a way to launch Tomtom and then lock the screen before putting it in my pocket ?
Thanks !
same problem here.

I'm using Navigon on my HD and after locking the screen (press and hold the end key), the Navigon just continues to give driving instructions. Wouldn't that work with TomTom?
locking
Problem I believe is once tomtom looses focus then it stops working. Need to lock it while staying focused on the tomtom screen.
Also if the tomtom looses focus then the phone goes to sleep after period X

It doesn't : Tomtom keeps working in the background but no instructions coming through =(
There are two ways to lock the device while continue to run TomTom (with the instructions):
1) Press Today button, then lock the device in normal way;
2) Install Gyrator2. With the default settings it will lock your device when inseting stylos back to device.
First solution doesn't work for me : the instructions remain when i press the today button but are cut as soon as i lock the device with a long press on the bottom right button or with the on/off button at the top of the device
Will give a try to gyrator
works perfectly with gyrator2 !
Thanks a lot
Gyrator
Only problem is with gyrator is the device goes to sleep after a little while. I think it is because the unlock function is in the foreground. Tomtom is still active but sleeps after a little while.
Would be good is gyrator then made tomtom the foreground app again once locked.
Just go to the power options and untick the boxes !
So, I have PocketShield installed and it's set to slide or light unlock and answer. Quite often when I get a call it takes so long to unlock and answer, the person is gone...
There are maybe a few options -
1) I've installed and uninstalled so much stuff, maybe I need to start fresh? I have noticed the HD is a little 'laggy' now. Should I hard reset and install things back on slowely, testing it's responsiveness as I go?
2) Maybe I should switch to S2U2? I used this for a long time on my Kaiser, but have been concerned by everyone saying it drains battery power.
3) Do I need a screen lock program? The device only wakes up on a phone call and now you have a slide to answer/ignore anyway. Do the hardware keys do anything at this point? Am I safe to carry it round in my case without a screen lock?
Does anyone else suffer from this, or just me?
Thanks for any help/advice in advance.
Having the same issue. Sometimes my slide option simply doesn't work first few attempts. My solution is to use the "answer call" key beneath the main screen until this gets resolved.
S2U2 works like a charm on the HD and it doesn't draw additional battery as far as I have seen over the past few days.
When u have a call, u don't need to slide so you unlock the device then accept/reject the call.
Depends on what you have set, you can either have the original accepting/rejecting HTC screen poping up to take/reject your calls,
or you can set it so u have a new slider appearing on the wallpaper of S2U2 to accept/reject the calls
Try it, you won't regret it guys.
Well, yesterday I hard reset my HD and installed just the stuff I wanted. I've gone back to S2U2 and everything seems much much better so far. The only annoying thing is sometimes the phone wakes in landscape mode still, even though it's set to not rotate in Gyrator (and doesn't when it's woken, it stays in whatever it is in.)
Whats the difference between S2U2 and the phones default slide to answer phone ?
In other words, why install S2U2?
Its a very well presented Screen Lock, that's why. The question is just how to go from that to answering a call...
Id I have S2U2 installed, and a call comes in on my HD, what happens? does s2u2 take over from the default "slide to answer" system?
Yes it does. I think the problem I had was it wasn't doing that properly before hand. They were obviously conflicting with each other and I was struggling to answer calls.

Well S2U2 will lock your phone screen and buttons so you do not start by mistake an application or a phone call when the device is in your pocket.
Even if by mistake u click on the power on button, ur device is still locked until u unlock it using a slider like on the i-phone.
It allows u to display a wallpaper of your choice, different then the one on your today screen or in TF3D. It allows u to display clock date, network signal, tasks, missed calls, SMS, etc ...
Try it, it's free and very nicely designed
I tried to use S2U2 and found that just like every other locker it is behaving wrongly after a call - it leaves the device unlocked! So if I listen to music and get a phone call I'll have to pull it out of the pocket to lock again. There is a silly option to lock after each call of course, but this is just stupid - I just want the device to stay locked until I unlock it - how difficult is this?
Funnily, the only locker behaving properly is the stock Windows one, but it has a backlight bug and switches the device to Home screen.
It's just amazing how nobody can do such a basic function right.

Just tried it few seconds before posting, called myself from the office phone, answered the call using the slider is S2U2, the screen turned off, I ended the call by pressing on the end call button on my HTC touch HD, and the S2U2 screen lock was there, the device was still locked.
It works perfectly with the touch HD.
How to lock all buttons except Power button on HD2 ? (When the screen is off)
I have tried the suggestions from here but it just doesnt work...
Does anyone know a solution for this ?
Key Lock Cab Does not Work on HD2
Would also like to know if anyone found a solution on how to lock all keys on the HD2 except for the Power (end) Key.
Thank you
Key lock; any key power on
Me three. No one else seems too bothered
Alternative
Not got my HD2 yet so not had a chance to play around, Coming tomorrow at
last.
Anyone tried this: S2U2 (Slide 2 Unlock 2) http://www.ac-s2.com
I have been using it on my Gsmart T600 and I love it, Great little lock app
and one app I will be trying out on the HD2 tomorrow.

Or PocketShield, for that matter - keeps screen from coming on when buttons are accidentally touched: http://forums.jdbp.mobi/download.htm
Last time I looked it was $7.00 US or there abouts.
I have the same problem of locking and unlocking
use a headset to answer a call completely unlocks the screen, and conversations are interrupted, it is unacceptable .... Managing lock unlock the screen to review by HTC. For information, the HD1 does not have all these problems!
And whats the solution now? (exept using pocketshield).
I must say it is a shame that HTC is not including a full working lock-app for such a device with recessed hardwarekeys before selling it. This is the first thing a designer should think off !! If such keys could be accidently pressed it is a must to provide a softwaresolution.
Is it a bug or a feature?
Can proximity sensor use to solve this problem. When HD2 in my pocket proximity sensor prevent to accidental unlock, like phone conversation.
