X01HT -- How do you bring back the Yahoo Keitai homepage? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

X01HT English ROM users:
I have successfully flashed an English ROM on my Softbank X01HT smartphone.
Is there a way to bring back the Yahoo! Keitai homepage?
I have tried http://ptl/menu/ but i guess you would have to configure something.
Help would be much appreciated.

Are you talking about the Yahoo page for Japanese proprietary keitai or the one that came with the X01HT?
The address for the X01ht is simply www.yahoo.co.jp.
Just type it in the phone and make a shortcut.

Well, this is not quite true...
To get Yahoo ケータイ WAP page (not www.yahoo.co.jp) one need a WAP capable browser. I thing PIE can work too but i don't even have the slightest idea where are these WAP settings in the registry. I managed to make NetFront3.3 to open http://ptl/menu/ and here are the settings:
Open NetFront and go to settngs (Menu, Tools, Browser Settings).
(Network) Use Proxy, Address: vfkkwapproxy.vodafone.ne.jp port: 8080
(Misc) Check Enable text/vnd, wap, wml
(Misc) User-Agent: select "----" then Edit, change User-Agent text to:
Vodafone/1.0/V904SH/SHJ001 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
Browse http://ptl/menu/ from NetFront, note that "/" at the end!
If anyone manages to make WAP work in PIE, please post!

I haven't had time to play with it, but if you use SKTools, you can see agent information for PIE. It is showing it all separated into separate fields and they appear editable. If the fields are gotten in the right order, it might work!

WAP and T-Mobile

Hi
ON my nokia I had wap access to check headlines and football scores. How do I enable the same facility on an XDA ?
You need to run a seperate WAP browser, like EZ WAP. Search the boards here for EZ WAP and you'll find links to places to get it. Once you have it, there's a great WAP config description for T-Mo at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3675
Hope this helps
I've tried following the steps given in several different threads for configuring this on my XDA but have been unsuccessful. I've been trying to use EZWap to configure it, but it cannot connect. I think its something to do with my network connections on my phone that just arent right. Can anyone walk me through setting up the actual network connection settings for WM2003? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i installed the mms from the O2 uk rom... (from zip posted here somewhere)...
i get mm2 notifications, but i cant download them...
any ideas?
WAP using IE in WM2003
Supposedly IE in WM2003 has support for WAP browsing. However, when I set up a "TZONES" connection and set up the AP to ( wap.voicestream.com ) and the proxy to ( 216.155.165.50:9201 ), and I try to navigate to:
wap.myvoicestream.com
It no longer works. However, if I navigate to any "regular" www page, it comes up just fine. Has anyone else successfully been able to configure their WM2003 ( TMobile PPCPE ) to access their TZones via IE using the WAP connection/Proxy settings ?
I was thinking of installing EzWap 2.5 again, but during the install it said it was going to replace wapdrv.dll and I wasn't going to run the risk of overwriting a necessary file, so I exited the installation of ExWAP.
Anyone gotten this to work ???
[/b]
Eureka !!! You don't need EzWap or Klondike !!!
<Edited - It was LarryH from Horward Forums who originally helped me out with this...it was his idea to try out a different URL monicker. Thanks again Larry ! >
With LarryH's help, we've discovered that it IS possible to access T-Mobile's TZones pages once you've undergone the upgrade to WM2003 from T-Mobile's SITE.
After you set up your connection to use the WAP accesspoint:
wap.voicestream.com
Under Proxy Settings:
WAP: 216.155.165.50 port: 9201
SWAP: 216.155.165.50 port: 9203
You don't have to set the HTTP or SOCKS,
as TMobile doesn't support SOCKS, and the HTTP port ( 80 ) is already open on their gateway server.
To access your TZones homepage, just open IE, and enter:
wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com
apparently entering:
http://wap.myvoicestream.com
will confuse IE in WM2003 for PPC, and
it will say "Unable to find page".
Everyone, enjoy your TZones under WM2003.
Marcelo
but my MSN Messenger don't work
my MSN Messenger still don't work. I have set access point to wap.voicestream.com
do i need to set up something else? or purchase other data plans from tmobile?

I just tried that on my PPC PE and I was able to sign on to MSN Messenger. Are you sure you have the Connection you set up to access the proper proxy address and ports. Make sure you setup the user/password for your msn account properly, because if you type it in wrong, it won't let you log in.
Let me know if you run into any problems.

OK my settings are:
cellular line GPRS
access point name: wap.voicestream.com

Vodafone V1640 - no pocket msn

received 3 Vodafone V1640's at work, and the little buggers don't have Pocket MSN installed, which means no MSN Messenger! have hunted around for the .exe but its no where to be seen
is anyone able to extract the necessary files to get Messenger working again? be much appreciated.
i'm quite surprised Vodafone havn't completed screwed the devices and put god awful themes/icons on them. the only things they do are add their own "inbox/sms/calender" icons to the Today screen which point to the same inbox etc as the default ones...
alex
Tell me what files you nedd and i'll try help
But i ask for a favour in return.
I have 02 xda exec in corporate mode. I have no connection settings for vodafone, I cant get mms working or nothing.
Id appreciate your settings.
I downloaded the latest rom from ftp and it doesnt put the connection settings into my exec, only puts in the mms settings under messaging/inbox, mms configuration
Ive tried allsorts of configurations to no avail. I just cant believe that the latest rom doesnt set up the connections automatically.
Voda Rom
Guys can you use vodafone live sucessfully on your universal, does it work with graphcs and live tv
Thankks
I cant get vodafone working full stop!
Cant find any instructions for connections that work.....
The Vodafone ext rom on the ftp doesnt set up connections after a hard reset
the bits n bats of info i pulled from posts here doesnt seem to work
theres no help on the vodafone web site bcos the VPA IV isnt available in UK yet it seems
Going around in circles, got an all singing/dancing device and I cant use it!
Voda
ok i will give you the settings that work for me now with vodafone
Go to start, settings, connections under isp add a new modem connection.
Select cellular line (gprs, 3G)
Call it vodafone internet
Access point name internet
user name web
passwordd web
that should give you a 3g internet connection, let me know how you get on
Cheers
Chris
is it as simple as that? there are no dns servers or anything?
Is there no modem connection under "My work network"
also under messaging>menu>mms configuration, could you give me these settings please?
Please Please if you have the time will you write all the settings down and where they are.
IE my isp, my work network, mms configuration, together with any dns servers/gateways etc
It Would be greatly appreciated.
BTW does your hard reset set up the connections to vodafone? if it does could you share your extended rom?
if you click on the signal strength icon then settings then band.... whats your setup in here?
sorry for pestering you with all these questions but im desperate to set this up, been messing about with his for a couple of days now.
BTW i installed the vodafone rom last night. Sure enough there are no messenger icons but if you use a thirdpary file explorer and browse to "\windows" you will find instmsgr.exe (this is messenger)
and
pmsn.exe, pmsnlauncher.exe & pmserver.exe (these are pocket msn)
I guess you could create shortcuts to these using something like resco file explorer and put the shortcuts in your start menu.
If these files are not present let me know, I can also copy you the shortcuts if your having trouble
I have a v1640, and have been wondering about pocket messenger.
Trying the above mentioned, i find that these files do not exist :S
Any help would be apreciated.
***UPDATE***
I called vodafone today, and after being bupmed about a bit, i was finally told that the v1640s should come with msn, as it is listed in the product description. I currently have a helpful tech looking into the options for me, and it would apear that some 1640s come with msn, and others don't.
I've got an XDA Exec which I use with a Vodafone 3G Sim, and the following settings work just fine for me:
Under Settings->Connections->MyISP I have the following:
Name: Vodafone GPRS
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access Point Name: internet
Username: [email protected]
Password: [email protected]
Under advanced, I have:
User server-assigned IP address under TCP/IP, and also under Servers.
All other entries are unchecked.
Under 'My Work Network', I have the following:
Name: Vodafone MMS
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: [email protected]
Password: [email protected]
Under advanced, I have:
User server-assigned IP address under TCP/IP, and also under Servers.
All other entries are unchecked.
If you now go into Pocket Outlook, you need to check your MMS settings. There should be an item at the bottom of the menu called 'MMS Configuration...'. Select it, and check the following:
Under preferences, I have the following checked:
Retrieve Messages Immediately
Download on home network only
Save sent messages
Under servers, I have an entry called 'Contract MMS', which has the following settings:
Server Name: Contract MMS
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 8799
Server address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
Connect via: My Work Network
Sending size limitation: 100K
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Using these settings, everything I've tried works just fine.
Bagpuss.
And setting up mms helps us get MSN messenger how????? These are phone distroed by voda, and already have the mms stuff setup.....
The MSN app was removed at the request of Vodafone Global.
Vodafone have a new version of VF-Messenger comming soon which has connectivity with MSN (http://www.vodafone.com/article_wit...LANGUAGE_ID%3D0%26CONTENT_ID%3D261956,00.html)
The v1240 (tornado) also doesnt have MSN in the ROM.
The spec sheets have very recently changed to include the miss communication that the devices have MSN.
For what I hear we have not seen half of what Vodafone are planning for the windows mobile devices.
All sounds good.... however my problem is I need msn messenger now and not in a few more months time
REDMOND, Wash., and NEWBURY, U.K. - 30 June 2005 - MSN and Vodafone plan to launch the enhanced messaging service in several European countries before the end of the year.

After some tooing and frowing from department to department, i managed to get a nice lady in TS to credit the £10.99 it would cost for the msn download.
The words "Its not the price, its the principal. Several of your competitors offer this device with msn messenger on it" seemed to work.

Where can you download it from? Seems odd to pay for msn messenger. Would have thought they'd encourage you to have it (rack up the gprs)
You can download it from the microsoft mobile site/msn messenger site.
However, there is word in the pipeline of a vodafone messenger that connects to the msn messenger network.

O2 UK PAYG cab file

I upgraded my PDA2K from Windows Mobile 2003 to Windows Mobile 2005.
Can anyone tell me where I can download the O2 UK PAYG cab file for Windows Mobile 2005.
Also, MMS isn't available any more after the upgrade.
Can anyone tell me how to restore it?
In my previous post, I should point out that I am seeing no menu for MMS in messaging at all.
look for mms info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=42
If you can find a place to have it setup, key in these values
o2 MMS settings
Access point name: wap.o2.co.uk (contract customers) or payandgo.o2.co.uk (pay-as-you-go customers)
Username: o2wap (contract customers) or payandgo (pay-as-you-go customers)
Password: password
Authentication: Normal
Data bearer: GPRS
Gateway IP (proxy) address: 193.113.200.195
Session mode: Permanent
URL address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Thanks a lot for the advice. I appreciate it. But let me be a bit more more specific on what I'm looking for. I am on O2 PAYG on my PDA2K (Blue Angel). I upgraded it to WM5 via ebay. Before the upgrade, I had a WM2003 cab that installed all the O2 UK PAYG settings. Before the upgrade, I had MMS (picture messaging) in the text messaging menu but now it is not there as an option. I have Pocket Outlook and text messages, but no sign of a menu for multi-media messaging. I would like to be able to send picture messages. Also, to access the "O2 Active" site via WAP, I understand (from reading O2's web site) that MMS needs to be installed. I can't seem to access O2 active at the moment. I get an error.
Please is there a patch or cab for that will install MMS in the messaging menu on my PDA2K device now that I have WM5? Also, is there a patch or cab to install the O2 UK PAYG connection settings? If there are patches or cabs, I'd like to be sure they are appropriate for my upgraded device and will install OK on the new ROM and not mess anything up.
I already have the cab for O2 PAYG connection settings for my imate PDA2K when it was WM2003 but I don't want to risk trying to install it on the upgraded ROM device in case it does something bad.
If there are no cabs for my upgraded ROM, could I get away with installing Blue Angel PDA2K WM2003 cabs or would this cause problems?
Thanks
2005 is beta and not a final release
no operators support 2005 on those older devices
cab files are made by the operators with their settings
mms composer is a 3th party mms program which integrates with outlook
mms composer in it's current version (unless that changed) is not compatible with 2005
there is another mms program which is compatible but as far as i know dont integrates with outlook you can find it if you search in the windows mobile 2005 forum after mms i would think
your best option is doing the search for the mms program
and manualy typing on the mms, gprs and wap settings in your phone
Thank you for explaining this to me. Now it is clear in my mind.
Which windows mobile forum are you referring to?

I've e-mailed to Electric Pocket support to ask about compatibility with WM5.

How to change user-agent for PIE in AKU 3.3

Hi
I've been trying to change the user-agent for PIE on my JasJam flashed with an AKU 3.3 ROM (South African Qtek).
On the previous version (AKU 2.2) I would be able to change the user agent by changing those keys in the registry:
for example:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Templates\Same as Pocket PC]
"Platform"="Windows CE; i-mate JASJAM V2 PPC; 240x320"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform]
"i-mate JASJAM V2 PPC; 240x320"=""
This doesn't seem to work anymore, user-agent (as checked with www.useragentstring.com) always return:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.8)
I've tried locating all occurences for Mozilla/4.0 in the registry, change them but with no effect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
JY
Funny on how you could search for hours, and it's only a few minutes after you post a question that you find the answer:
The user-agent string in AKU 3.3 is located at
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"Custom"="PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1"
What were you trying to do by changing the UA? AKU 3.3+ doesn't send the changed UA anymore.
We had been discussing this in several threads already, but the solution created some problems with SMS/e-mail or Favorites in PIE.

Without the proper user-agent (so it reports to be an i-mate JasJam), I can not use the wap web site from my mobile company (Telstra).
AKU 3.3 certainly do not use the same registry keys as earlier version, but I was able to modify the user-agent as mentioned in my previous post.
I will see if it creates problem with SMS as you mentioned.
JY
No problem with SMS after changing that registry key
It works fine...
And I get exactly the user-agent I want.
I'm surprised this wasn't found earlier...
JY
What did you change the UA to?
I tried your registry setting, but it did not work with Cingular Video (changing to LG-CU500). The fix that I was talking about replaced two files. That fix is still buggy, but allows Cingular Video and the Planet3 equivalent in Europe to work.

In [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
I changed:
"Custom"="PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1"
into:
"Custom"="i-mate JASJAM V2 PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1"
As the JASJAM V2 bit is what is being checked by the telstra wap site.
I don't know what you need to change it into so it works on your network.
You can control which user-agent is sent with this web site: http://www.useragentstring.com
Make sure after changing the registry that you kill IE, so it will reload the registry content
Ah, ok. We have different needs then. To get the videos from Planet3 and Cingular working, we need to change the Mozilla/4.0 part, not the stuff after that.

I think it would be worth playing with that key though, because it definitely has an effect on the user-agent string used by IE...
JY
If you want to change the User Agent String for AKU3.3+ or WM6 you have to edit the browser.dll from Windows directory on Hermes. You must take a dumped browser.dll, because the file can't be copied outside Windows-dir.
Open browser.dll with Hex Editor and search for Mozilla/4.0
You can change Mozilla/4.0 into anything else you want,
e.g.
Mozilla/4.0 (11 signs) into
Palm750/v000 (11 signs)
It won't work for some reason if more signs added, but maybe somebody knows what i do wrong.
[I once changed the things after Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.1;...) and then the Registry Setting worked again in HKLM\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent\Custom and this Registry Setting replaces the User Agent in the browser.dll (maybe the %d after Mozilla/4.0? causes the fixed User Agent sending from browser.dll??). But no access with correct sent User Agent from registry. Strange. With Hex-Editor-Mod it lets me access, with exactly the same User Agent prooved with www.fiddlertool/useragent.aspx ]
Works fine then (tested on Hermes)
I added a dumped browser.dll in browser.zip, but i can't say if it will work on your ROM too. If not, simply delete it again, it will be replaced with original browser.dll from ROM.
For all 3 Austria Users with AKU3.3 or WM6 installed: Simply copy the file from browserUA-3AT 240x320.zip to Windows-directory.
No need to change registry anymore.

Here is the CAB for the Browser.dll for Cingular Video to work in PIE in WM6 or WM5 Aku 3 ROMs. It reports UA of LG-CU500. Blackjack or Samsung A707 UA strings (the other very popular CV devices) have UA's that are longer than 11 digits so the HEx edit wont work.
Also here is a RealPlayer CAB with the browser UA fix autoinstall!

Thanks for the RealPlayer!
Curious. Tried the wpbear cabs on my factory unlocked HTC branded Trinity P3600 (I know this is a Hermes thread, so please excuse me crashing in. Thought the phones might be similar enough this could get me Cingular Video). Followed the intructions exactly. Strangely, after installation I could no longer even launch Pocket IE. Got a message saying application had the wrong signature or something similar. It was easy enough to uninstall the cabs so it didn't hurt to try. Even aside from this I am have been a bit puzzled that I can't get to the MEdia Net home page, not that this is any great loss. I assume it suggests my phone is not set up to play with the wap.cingular proxy fully. My Internet access seems unrestricted however which is the main thing!
The proxy is wireless.cingular.com:80 ! wap.cingular is the access point (AP). If you have wap.cingular as the proxy, you will not be able to use the Cingular medianet/video pages.

Thank you so much chenga! Finally I have the proxy set up right to get at the MEdia Net home page. Actually, I had seen those settings mentioned before but I had quite figured out how to enter them correctly until now.
The main problem was probably just my stupidity and ignorance, but I have also come up with a feasible sounding explantation as to why I got confused so I can try to feel less silly!
In case this helps anyone else, the thing that had truly been throwing me off is in my the Connections preferences there are are two sets of preferences as per Windows Mobile default. One has the default name "My ISP" and the other is "My Work Network".
The "My Work Network" is the one which has the option to enter the proxy and well as an APN (It also has the VPN settings options, although that is not applicable in this instance) I think my confusion is because I just switched to Cingy from T-Mo and with them the "My Work Network" settings would probably (I think..but may be wrong) only be used if you had a business plan and need to VPN in past your workplace firewall to get at an Enterprise server of some variety or other (No longer needed with Direct Push over http though)
The "My ISP" settings area has no option to enter a proxy (at least on my device). Solution, use "My Work Network" set it all up as needed and rename it to something relevent e.g. Cingular Proxy.
I suppose I was also thinking way back to my old, old Palm OS Treo days when any proxy option was accessed through its web browser.
I notice that the while use the proxy adds the MEdia Net specific features, it appears from my cursory testing to block SMTP, POP and IMAP. Curiously, it does allow transfers using an FTP client.
Still this is great. I can still use wap.cingular without a proxy for the most part and then just change the connection to use the proxy to get at MEdia Net stuff when desired. Best of both worlds really. Thanks again!
Sorry to bump the thread. I was examing the settings in the Cingular WAP Setup CAB (link earlier in thread) and noticed that it changes the DNS servers to those offered by the free OpenDNS service.
(For anyone new to DNS, it is the way that a human readable Internet address e.g. www.example.com. gets turned into an actual numercial address which a device can really use to find something on the Internet.)
Nothing wrong with that, but it worth noting as that comes down to personal taste. One can always change the DNS servers in the Connection settings at any time. Leave them blank to use Cingular's DNS servers.
My limited experience of the OpenDNS servers is that they are very fast, though can occaisionaly be a bit inconsisitent. They do also filter addresses, mostly in a helpful. e.g. they try to correct obvious typos into a real address (like changing example.coooommmm into example.com) and they also block known phishing sites (fake sites that try to steal personal information). If you type in a web address that cannot be found the OpenDNS server will present you with a suggestions page along with some sponsored links. Doesn't seem to be anything underhand, the page clearly declares itself. But if you use the CAB above and didn't happen to know about OpenDNS you might end up wondering why you end up looking at their page occaisionally.
Edit: Oops, silly me. The post with the originally CAB did already say it uses the OpenDNS servers. (Yes, I know, it really is about time I learned to fully read everything before I post!) Still, perhaps the extra extra details may be helpful to someone anyway.

True, that was stated when I posted that cab. If you are on Cingular you really need a better DNS, theirs suck.

GPRS settings for Suncom

I have a At&T 8525 that I have unlocked to use with Suncom service in USA but I am unable to access the web and I am looking for the correct settings to do this. SUncom will not give the settings to me, also if possible the directions to install if settings are available-thanks

Give this a try. It doesn't have the 8525 listed (of course). But I'm sure you can choose one of the other devices and the info should be somewhat standard.
