My TomTom Navigator 5 is working fine on my trusted XDAII. I have tried to get Traffic to work, but as soon as I update the traffic information, the application seems to "forget" map data for anything but the route and the immediate area around the origin. Everything else on the map, if you zoom out, is blank.
Also, if you then cancel the route and try to create a new one, you can't - because TT has no map data to use for a new route.
Finally, if you close TT and start it again, it does the initial "don't TomTom and drive" disclaimer and then says "no maps found". The only thing that get me back to a working TT is to turn the XDA off and on again. BUT as soon as I do a Traffic update, I get the problem again.
All this renders Traffic unusable. Any ideas?
I saw some interesting info in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=242667 - not sure if my problem could be an SD card problem. I am using a Kingston 50x 1Gb card. My XDA is:
ROM 1.72.00WWE
Radio 1.17.00

Anyone seen this problem
I have an unlocked XDAII with TomTom 5.210 Navigator
I originally used it with a TMobile phone chip and everything fine - I signed up to TomTom Traffic Alerts and this worked 100% of time.
Have now changed to an O2 chip. TomTom works 100% with Traffic disabled, or no chip inserted but if I enable traffic within a very short while (first traffic update?) it loses track........roads on map starts to disappear then if I move off route - it cannot replan and needs a reboot.
I have done a hard reboot with chip in and reinstalled tomtom and also pulled the O2 config from their site.
Currently no idea so running without traffic option hence wasting subscription etc.and runniong into avoidable traffic jams :<(

Hi,
TT6 runs ok to start off with and then gets to the point where it appears to freeze up but is infact still running and can take 10 min's or longer to respond to a screen tap. Other programs (i.e. phone) can be accessed and run almost as fast as normal.
I have defragmented the SD card, but the problem remains.
Any other suggestions?
How about this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280513&highlight=tomtom6+slow
Does anybody have the default settings for an O2 Exec relating to the above link?
The map is the GB with W Europe major roads. SD card is 1GB.
Thanks,
Scott
It appears the problem lies with Checkpoint v. 6.0.0.0. I'll continue to test and keep all informed for future reference.
If you use the Europe Map and enable TomTom Traffic it can cause serious problems. It is checking for Traffic Data for the whole map at that time. If you use one country map the problem dissappears.
I'm using the GB map with major european roads. Tomtom Traffic isn't enabled.
I haven't used Checkpoint for a couple of days and it runs fine. I'll try it over the weekend with checkpoint running and see what happens.
I'll post my results here.
Hi
I use my 3G with Tom Tom maps and the internal GPS. Always worked ok but about 2 days ago it started only connecting for about 10 seconds or not even finding a GPS signal at all. It seems to find the internal GPS unit but then can't find any signals. Have tried it with an 'external' GPS unit and it works fine.
(I tried Orange support and they said it was my GPRS settings !!!!! - at that point after spending 5 mins on the phone I gave up !!)
Any help appreciated
Have you tried using updating the QuickGPS program?
Hi
Yes - it didn't make any difference however
Thanks
Petez1 there a lotsa options, you did try a soft reset i assume, but you can also:
- check if AGPS (assisted GPS) is active on your phone, if so...disable it.
- use the HTC GPS tool to check your GPS status
- re install TT Navigator, and maybe try another version
- in TT Navigator you can either choose 'build in GPS' or 'Other NMEA GPS', both should work, play around a bit....see if it solves your problem.
Last but not least you could give your Jade a hard reset (whipes all the information on your phone, bringing it back to factory state).
Anyways, i sometimes have the same problem as you, esp when i've used the GPS in another application then TT Navigator (GoogleMaps or Footprints). In my case a soft reset solves it.
Put the bold words i used in the excellent Google search function of this forum and you'll find lotsa information.
Hi
Thanks - I checked all these and did a hard reset but still didn't work. I am getting a replacement from Orange
Grateful for your advice
Thanks
YvW...and i'm glad Orange gives you a replacement, cuz when you've tried everything with no solution at all it's probably a hardware issue.
I have a blackstone and it was originally on the Orange network (UK) I now have it unlocked from orange and have a T-mobile uk sim in there.
I put tomtom sat nav on and havent done much else to it.
For some reason I cant use the tomtom app as it says no gps device, any idea whats going on, or how I fix this. I follew the tom tom installation correctly but it just doesnt pick up any satellites up.
Another thing is my MMS setting are out of wack completely, any idea how I get these fixed, t mobile are unable to help as they dont sell the phone through them.
Anyone got their mms worksing through t mobile uk?
any help would be appreciated
Yes..you have find a big bug in the new rom that you have installed...i think that you have burn the GPS antenna, or the second possibility is that you have to install a new Antenna software..i've a original rom and all is perfect.!!
i havent installed another rom, its the original one that was on the phone, so i couldnt have burnt anything out. i haveng modded the phone in any way just to confirm
I'd try this for the MMS settings:
Tmobile Settings by Email
For the TomTom problem, it is just a case of TomTom not displaying any Satellites, but still getting your location (the screen changes colour and shows your location, to indicate a satellite lock) or does it never give a fix.
Not to insult as I don't know your level of experience with GPS, but try it outside on a clear (not very heavy cloud) day, leaving it stationary for several (upto five I'd say) minutes, and see if it gets a fix?
thansk for the reply,
but the t-mobile link odesnt work as my phone isnt listed there and I cant move forward without selecting one.
The tom tom screen is grey as if it doesnt have any satellites connected to it, I have tried it on a clear day and same no luck.
In the connections tab under where you can switch the bluetooth, wifi etc on, does the data connection also have to be switched on, of is the data connection for something else?
For tomtom:
Go to settings/AGPS settings and make sure it is turned off - this used to stop tomtom working for me until I updated my ROM.
In tomtom, make sure you've selected 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' and COM4 (I found the baud rate does not matter and have it set to the highest value.
thanks all working now, great.
just on a general note, what costs are incurred when we use this, is it free for people with data plans etc

GPS does not cost anything as you are receiving signals from GPS satellites. I don't think you even need a SIM in your phone to use it.
AGPS is data so will come out of your data plan if you have one.

Have you tic the box in the GPS tab (see in the settings) for give the permission to the O.S for taking automatically the control of signal.?
Hi
i have read in a few other posts regarding GPS issues and Sat Nav software not working
now i have seen a few programs that 'kick off' the GPS and then runs the program and i have run these to no avail,
i was wondering if anyone else has not only had this issue but struggled to get it working, google maps seems to pick me up via GPS but tomtom is saying 'no gps device' go into settings within tomtom and set to internal gps device, and check gps status and no cannot see any satellites. i have had the phone outside inthe line of sight of the sky for an hour so me being inpatient isn't the issue, any help would be greatly appreciated

Try this:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/GPS/GPS-Test-34335.shtml
Update QuickGPS.
If no satellites show up after a max of 5mins of you standing outside with clear view of the sky, then you either need to flash another radio or the gps is dead.
hi
thanks
have left phone outside running that, seems to be scanning com1-9..pausing for a second on port 3 then continuing. will let you know in 10 mins, what is flashing another radio involve?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274
ok stupid question time, but if it google maps seems to be working ok would that not suggest that the GPS radio is ok, and secondly if i did flash which one would i go for on that link you sent
i have radio version 1.09.25.14 protocol 52.49a.25.261u
there is a link
Download 1.09.25.14 / 52.49a.25.26W Radio only Megepload
Download HD_Blackstone_Radio 1.09.25.14 (with RUU) 4shared
am i flashing this even though my protocol is different?
and there is about another 10 files below all them called
Blackstone Rilphone.dll Cabs
all confusing can you help any more please
thanks
I don't believe anything google maps says in relation to GPS after it told me one of my non GPS phones had inbuilt gps, and then calculated my position using the mobile phone network.
As for which you need, well it depends on which rom you are running, whether it's a stock rom (bog-standard rom you get on device when you buy it), or a custom cooked rom from someone on the forums. I suggest you read up on it thoroughly then post in the correct radio thread if you want to ask any more questions regarding the right radio version you need.
fair do's
thanks
Did you have google maps open when you started Tomtom? That may have caused an error
hi
thanks for reply, no i open google maps it seems to find my location. close google maps, then open tomtom and is saying no gps device. the 'onboard' gps device is set on tomtom options it's just as if the gps reciever isn't picking up, same in other sat nav progams too, garmin is the same so makes me think is phone not software issue
AFAIK, Google Maps is A-GPS software, while TomTom, iGO and others are full GPS software.
Don't know about TomTom, but iGO DOES NOT work if A-GPS is enabled...
hmmmm. i'll give it a whirl, not got the phone withme at the mo, a mate is attempting to simunock it, agps is enabled so i will disable it see if that helps. tempted to get rid and get an effing iphone at this rate
Let us know how you go....
Don't give up, it;s a great phone
had the same issue with tomtom v7.450. using tomtom v7.916 now and it's running like charm
Just had replacement Touch HD delivered from Orange this morning, flashed to my usual ROM, and get exactly the same symptoms as Pete did.....
Tried:
TomTom
Memory map
HTC GPS Tool
Updating QuickGPS
Updating Radio ROM to latest version
Reflashing different OS roms
nothing makes a difference.
Not really keen to take it apart as i'll break the VOID sticker and probably end up in an argument with Orange, but Id bet any money that the GPS cable has come loose......so frustrating as im working abroad as of next week and i'll really use the GPS a lot......
Also just found out that the replacement handset is "refurb".....I bet the muppet that refurbed it didnt reconnect the GPS cable
