P3600 - TomTom installation - GPS receiver ?? - P3600 General

Hi !
I installed the GPS-enabled ROM from the HTC Homepage - and TomTom 6 for Pocket PC - not the Trial Version from the HTC Homepage.
but when configuring the GPS receiver - I can not find any build-in device..
It`s only "other GPS receiver", Bluetooth-GPS receiver and so on.
could you please help me ???
thx
hans

Read other threads...
There are a lot of threads about GPS and TomTom

go to the TomTom site and look for the PocketPC upgrade that is specific to the HTC devices. it will upgrade TomTom so you can select the internal GPS receiver. for now, you can also use the "Other NMEA" device.

maps ?
Hi !
thanks !
I installed my TomTom6 Version - and downloaded the Plugin for the HTC device.
But I had to install this TomTomHome Software in order to install this plugin.
but when I want to configure TomTom it tells me that I could download
one map for free..
BUT I want to use my existing "Western Europe" maps.
I copied them to "My Documents" - but it doesn`t recognise it...
Could you please tell me how I could re-use me TomTom6 maps.
thx
hans

Put the map folder back in the memory card root

GPS on Universal WM5

despite a lot of digging none of the suggestions for getting a BT/GPS working did the job for me, well, they did for TT5 sometimes but did not work for the Garmin software.
I then after reading some more had a bright idea, why not just create a registry entry in HKLM Drivers with just a blank COM4 entry, after all, the problem seems to be that the com port is not fully established until the software starts talking, and the Garmin software does not show it till it is fully established - no doubt some of you will better understand the inside than me !!!
anyway, for the first time my garmin que software with my garmin gps10 is actually showing where i am ;-)

Can you tell us exactly the key you have added?
i created a key
hkey_local_machine/drviers/active/73
and in there created a string value
Name = COM4:
this method does not seem to work for tomtom5 but the other methods posted work for that, but for garmin que with gps10 (along with the regedit to unhide the interface option onque) i can then see an extra entry onthe com list and when i select that que detects com4 and finds the gps and works.
i suspect there is something else i should do as for some reason the entry in garmin que shows up as a blank line or with a square instead of listed as com4, but que lets me select it anyway !!
Mapsource and Que on WM5
Thanks, this sorted out my problem. Now I'm able to link my JasJar and GPS10.
Now I have problem with my Mapsource and nRoute. They do not detect the device.
Any ideas?
Hi,
i have not really tried using nroute at all to be honest, though i do use mapsource on my pc - indeed i have used it for several years as i also have a streetpilot 3 that came with my motorbike ;-)
that part i had no problem with.... apart from the garmin registration being a little complicated !!!!! if i remember right (i am not at home) you have to register the maps against the serial number of the gps (this is the serial number which is on the label and the registration card). this is done on the garmin website. that gives you an unlock code which you enter in to mapsource itself.
you can then use mapsource to select what maps to copy, the easiest way is to take the sd-card from your jasjar and put it into a card reader in the pc, and mapsource writes them straight down. then put the card back in to the jasjar.
actually, garmin are quite helpful, and they allow you to unlock each map against two gps's so i now have all my maps unlocked against both my streetpilot3 and my gps10/que.
you can see on the garmin website what is or is not unlocked. i guess the files mapsource creates have some sort of signature so that when que runs it knows if the maps are being used against the correct gps.
the other good news is that i have tomtom running as well, i simply go to the gps menu of the jasjar to enable the access-managegpsautomatically when i want to use tomtom which then works happily against the logical port, and disable it when i want to use que which works against the actual bluetooth com port.
let me know if you still have problems and i will write again when at home with my pc and mapsource
it seams accept com8 when you set the outgoing port in the bt setting with tt5

Same here! Detect nothing....
I really want to transfer the maps, and that can´t be done without detection.. please help!
downloading maps
well, i have not used nroute at all, but mapsource can download direct to a memory card (SD or whatever) using any normal pc adapter, and then when you put the card into your universal, because the universal has detected the gps10 it will open the maps no problem. before doing the download you simply have to register the maps against the gps serial number - this is done on the garmin website, that gives you the unlock code which you enter into mapsource.

PPC-6700 with Garmin GPS 10 BT
This is EXACTLY where I am at as well with my PPC and the GPS 10. I don't understand how it can detect the PPC-6700 and install the Que software and the Voice files through ActiveSync, but yet when you get to the installation part of the basemaps, it doesn't detect?!?! Something doesn't make sense! If you call Garmin, they will just inform you that the R&D team has not come up with a solution as of yet, and when they do, it will be available for download in the updates section. If you look on the setup cd with the basemaps, they are .img files, but I cannot find a program to manipulate them. I was thinking of maybe finding out a program to "uncomrpess" the .img basemaps from the CD then copy them over to the PPC. Any suggestions?
Garmin iQue issue
I was spending quite a while looking for this issue already.l
Had some help from Garmin to proceed with com port allocation.
But for the issue with Mapsource to Garmin link they doesn't reply at all.
My clue is that something wrong with RAPI interface which has changed between ActiveSync 3.8+WM03 and 4.0+WM05.
If you watch how older devices work you can see that ActiveSync launches (on PPC) RapiSrv.exe program which will deal with Mapsource by the use of QueRapi.dll.
I've looked for the number of documents on Microsoft regarding new activesync and wm2005, looks like we need new version of ppcQue.
I use Imate Kjam + GPS10
If you find some fix, please drop me a text on mekel#yandex.ru.
Thanx.
Universal vs BT GPS
My HW: T-Mobile DE MDA Pro with I-mate ROM - Emtac Wayfinder BT GPS
The main thing was the fluent line from BT hardware port to my iGO Navigation software. At the beginning, in iGO, I only saw the reserved COM ports. BUT
1. Use Bluetooth manager to connect GPS reciever and set Outgoing port to COM0
2. Use the registry editor to create the GPS Settings icon in Settings (HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Hide -> value: 0
3. Use the GPS Settings setup, to mount HW port to COM0, SW port to COM4
4. Install franson GPS Gate, and set up using Input port: physical COM4, Output port (create) virtual port COM8
5. Install iGO, and select COM8, to get the coordinates for the ride
This works for me, hope to others as well!
BUT: after a soft reset, it isn't reachable. That is because active ports on the HTC Uni are dynamically changed after a soft reset. I'm working on a constant solution...

No but I've used Memory-Map with great success. Took the same fiddling as Tomtom to get the GPS COM port working.
6 days later, gps10, is working
After trawling through a load of forums and after reading this one i thought i would put my solution, probably a bit late.
Firstly bought the full gps10 package from rs, loaded nroute on the laptop unlocked the maps, loaded the universal (m5000) with que, then the tried to upload the maps. didnt recgonise the pda. so then tried to get the bt gps working and that failed as well.
got gpsproxy working but it was a bit hit and miss, so called garmin and asked them why they sell it when it dosent work, was just about to have a good old shout at them when they offerd to e-mail me a new patch.
So installed the new garminque.exe file over the top of the new one and it picked up the bt/gps on com4. easy enough. then tried again to upload the maps but no joy, borrowed a card read/writer from work took that home and mapinstall worked fine chose my maps and tested it last night.
So if you are having trouble i'm posting the file so other people should find it a bit easier, hope this helps. oh my sd card is a 1gb fujitsu sd card
The full instructions from garmin follow
Here is a fix for the GPS 10 Bluetooth connection problems with a Windows
Mobile 5 Pocket PC. I have written out more detailed instructions that
should be easy for the customer to follow and implement:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International
Rename the attached file from GarminQue.zip_ to GarminQue.zip so WinZip will
recognize the extension.
Double click on the file and it should unzip. Unzip this to the desktop,
this will unzip to the file garminque.exe
To install... drop the GarminQue.exe file in the \Garmin\ directory and
overwrite the previously installed .exe. on the unit itself.
You can do this by going into the My Computer Icon. Double click on Mobile
Device. Double click on My Pocket PC. Double click on the Garmin folder.
Here is where you copy the garminque.exe.
This will put the modified file right on the unit itself. This will then
allow the software to use the unit's available com ports instead of looking
for just com 2 and com 7.

Adding Maps to TomTom

Ok - got TomTom on my XDA mini s.
Now - maps.
Added maps as stated here:-
http://www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam/2005/10/surefire-method-of-installing-tomtom.html
do I just add another line to the Current Map file to point to another map directory?
And does then TomTom auto add the maps, if not - how do I choose a different map.
and finally - voices. Can I store these on SD card and if so - where do I amke any config changes
Thanks
Scott
OK, so just how did you get TomTom on there? Did you have to use Activesync? If so, what happens when the thing goes T.U. and you don't have the software on your memory card ? :?:
Used the 5.21 upgrade as that installed via the pc through active sync as not supports WM05, and then followed instructions on the screen. Then patched it.
Used the link above to setup the bluetooth gps and get the map directory setup, and it just seemed to work. I have a BT GPS - BT-77 model.
No issues so far.
Just sussed the voices, there has a to be a voice folder in the root.
Now - just want to know how to add more maps, and how I alter the CurrentMap file

major roads of europe not recognized by tomtom 5 in wm5

i've tried to select major roads of europe map, from tomtom, 5.1, 5.21, and nothing. I've seen the same map working in hp pda's brother in law, with wm2003se and TT5.21 update. I think the TomTom doesn't recognize this map under WM5.
Anyone tried, yet?
Give me some answers.
Regards
Marcus
Note: The problem is TT5.21 or even TT5.1(I didn't try less) don´t show in switch maps the refered map.
Hi
The map for europe is the map Plus that you find on you CD.
Thry is 2 map One is the normal map and one is the plus the plus contains the map of europe.
Ciao
Gigino
thanks, but problem not solved
under WM5 tomtom doesn't recognize this map

marcus
Hi
it strange that you still have the problem I use the Xda Exec that ha WM5 and I have no problem.
The directory of the map you have installed what is it called:
It no by any chance called:
Major Roads Of Europe. Because if it is it will never work on the Tom Tom Navigator 5 that is only for the Tom Tom Navigator 3.
You should have installed any map on the cd which has the word Plus at the end example
Great Britain Plus-Map
That cover all the normal road of Britain plus it covers the major roads or europe.
Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
Regards
Gigino
thanks
I put the iberia plus-map and i´m very happy with the result.
Regards and thaks Gino, for help

RE: TomTOM Map Selection Problem
Hi,
I have the same problem, with Major Roads of Europe, Scandinavia and Gt Britain.
If I delete tomtom programe and re-install from my SD card TomTom installation, then I can select all maps, this installs version 5.0, if I upgrade to either 5.1 or 5.21 service packs, I can only select the GT Britain map when I try to swap maps in TomTom.
If anybody can help I would be grateful, as I can run my Checkpoint speed camera software on ver 5.0 only 5.1 or 5.21. Thanks

TomTom - built-in GPS receiver without updating ?

Hi !
I installed the GPS-enabled ROM - and via RegistryEditor the GPS Icon in the Control Panel.
But when I install TomTom it doesn`t display the build-in GPS Receiver.
So I installed the TomTom Update for PocketPCs - then - the built-in GPS receiver is there - but TomTom is updated in a way that I have to
activate the maps again -
Is there a way to use the GPS-receiver for TomTom - but without updating TomTom - respectively activate the maps again ??
thx

If you activated your maps with the "old" version of tomtom, it should be no problem to activate them again with the "new" version, should it?
But you can use the GPS with the "old" version, you just have to select "other NMEA" and it will work...
tomtom hangs - with NMEA GPS
Hi !
I tried to...
I selected "other NMEA GPS" - 115000 bauds - COM9...
then I have to agree to the terms...after pressing "I AGREEE" it hangs and closes the application.
does anyone have an idea ??
thx

And exactly HOW LEGAL is your copy of TomTom , and which version exactly are u using ?
I'm using v6.030 and it works without any quirks...
there's an update on TomTom's website for the HTC P3600/Trinity...i installed it and that solved my problem. you can also search xda-developers for a link to the cab file. hope this helps.

[Q] Anybody knows how to use TT Navigator 7 on HP ipaq 6915 ?

I know this is not the real key forum for Navis but I thought I give it a try as my prob could be related with the OS.
And I know this device is not in the compatibility list for TomTom Navigator 7 but usually the TT Navi7 works on Win 5 and Win 6 devices.
I have:
- an HP ipaq (model hw6915) with
- Windows Mobile WM 5 (searched this forum for a Win 6 ROM and it looks like some smart guys are currently working on that so I could not yet give it a try with Win 6)
According to the ipaq user manual, the device has this GPS receiver installed:
- GL20000 from Global Locate. In case a manual setting is required for a software, the ipaq manual mentions to set it to COM 7 and a BAUD rate of 57600.
Here is my problem:
I had installed Navigator 6 and it worked fine – but with outdated maps as the new maps require Navigator 7. So after some years of using the old Navigator 6 I installed now the TomTom Navigator 7.917.9186 plus the recent Europe 2GB maps.
The new Navigator 7software starts fine and accepts the new map, but it does not recognize the internal GPS antenna. I receive the message “no GPS devide”. Then I tried a bit and switched (in TomTom Navigator settings) from the “internal” to “other NMEA GPS receiver” and tried different Baud rates. With this setting the Navigator does receive GPS signal – once in a while (1 signal about every minute – just enough to locate the current position but not enough to really navigate).
So obviously the Navigator 7.x does not get correct GPS signals from the built-in antenna (while the older Navigator 6 always did).
Oh and I tried a free utility called GPS Proxy, which copies GPS signals from the inernal antenna to another (virtual) COM port, and I configured TT Navigator 7 to read out from that virtual COM port the GPS proxy is sending its data to. No success.
Any idea how to solve that problem?
Once again, I know this is not the right forum for Navigation software but I thought I give it a try....
sometimes ago on my hw6915 i used the 7.910 version without problems.
try to use this version.
regards,
Sold
Thanks Soldato. Tried the the 7.910 version again but same result - except that in addition to the problem the phone´s speaker gets de-activated. Somehow this speaker problem can be overcome by deleting/replacing a certain file in the Windows folder (I had tried the 7.910 version already half a year ago and I found out how to switch on the speaker but forgot what I did....)
Hmm. Also no loader or converter etc. seems to exist that would allow using the newer TT maps with the older (but working) Navigator 6 software.
Looks like I will keep my ipaq hw6915 in the box for a while till a GPS-supporting WM 6 version can be found.
i can try!!
can u send your tomtom soft, n charts, i have hw6915
i'll try them up for ya n give you a hint!!

Sure I will mail it, but its nothing fancy. You can find the corresponding TomTom Navigator software everywhere on the web.
Does TT 7 work on your hw 6915?

Ähm sorry if I might look stupid, but how can I delete a single dll file from the Windows folder? I tried in Active Sync and directly from the ipaq file explorer but can neither replace nor rename nor delete it. And was also not able to change the file parameters.
using file explorer tap on 'show all files' to see the dll or try "total commander" file manager (needed for wm2003se)
