Odd icon in Phone screen - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hello all. My first post on these great forums!
I have an odd issue with a branded HTC TyTn.
There is an icon in the Phone screen underneath the 'X' close button. It is like an eye with half an arrow pointing right.
I have attach a screenshot so you can take a look.
Any ideas what it could be at all?
Many thanks.

Could you please post:
When you bought it, the ROM version, OS version and date etc....

oh yeah, i had that as well. i have since upgraded to wm6. I wonder what it is.
oh, i have a m3100 on orange UK. It did have the original orange rom.

Here is some more info....

ROM : 1.18.225.3 (07/22/06)

Looks like a video camera (webcam) out icon to me. Does it indicate video calling enabled??
Mike

see in the \windows directory if there is a file called "carrierlogo.gif", it's normally used 4 the logo of the carrier. If there isn't a pic, so you can start to thing something else.... Make an Hreset, on the first boot, reset the ppc, unhide the extended rom (no UNLOCK, so only reg keys needed) and launch 1 by 1 the cabs rebooting on every installation.
When you've identified the cab, then is possible to know something

HTC Wizard background picture

Hiya...
I own a SPV m3000 (Wizard) and have a really annoying problem.
I got a background picture that I want to use on my Wizard.
In the home-screen I have put it as the background picture, and it shows well.
Now every time I soft-reset my device, the picture is gone, and the background of the original today screen is back up again.
If I click in start however, in the background of the popup menu, the picture is still partially there, so it looks like it's stuck "underneath" the background that is displayed.
Is there a tweak witch lets me keep my background, even after a soft reset?
And by the way, has anybody found a tweak yet to increase the time the keyboard backlight is on? :?:
Hope someone can help me...
Greetings!!!
Try to place your background picture in `my documents` folder.
Already tried that....
Also put it in the Windows directory...
No luck I'm afraid....
Any other suggestions?
Try to find the other image change your new picture to the same file name and overwrite the original. Dont know if its in the rom or just a file on the device though but its worth a check.
nope
That aint it either..
I think the pictures are in Rom.
It are the stwater and tdywater.gif, but they change back to the original after a soft reset.
I now took matters in my own hands, and creater a new today screen wit a today screen maker.
That seems to work....
Still, has anybody gotten a tip to keep the keyboard light on longer?

battery on title bar

ok i just flashed my phone to the new t-mobile rom from their site i hae the mda back before i flashed it i did a few things to it and now i cant find those things but here it is maybe someone can help ok i want my battery to be on the tittle bar instead of the bottom right corner also the time use to be on the same line on the home screen as the date. i also had this speed dial app on my homescreen wich i can assign pictures to but when i didnt have pictures they were just blue buttons with the name on it. i believe i got these from this sight but this was way back in like may and i cant seem to find them
where is this new ROM? do u have an URL?
I just wanna get rid of that battery logo
Are you sure you got the right one? As what I can see from their site, here
http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
It seems that they dont seems to have any new ROM. Can you try soft reseting it and copy down all the numbers you see on the first screen?
As with the speedial, did you put that in?
yes i put the speed dial in i found it on here and i had also found everything else on here
Would be nice for the rest who reads this to know what you're answer was
The Speeddial plugin is indeed available on this forum. It's a standard plugin from the Treo WM versions..
You can change the icon on the top of your screen by changing the registry:
To show battery:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\ShowTitleBarClock = 0
To show the clock:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\ShowTitleBarClock = 1
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TBOpt = 1
Ok. I was sooooooo confused with ademoc first post.
What I perceived was `ademoc got a new ROM from T-Mobile which removed all the AKU annoying battery meter and also included a speeddial in Today screen`. Guess I was dreaming.
Anyway, for others, he just flashed his phone and wanted to get all the software he got previously. So help.
ademonc, it is VERY strange that your battery meter is NOT on your top right. If the ROM you are using is the lastest ROM, you should have your battery on the top instead. You may want to try upgrading your ROM again with the file downloaded from T-Mobile webpage. It is not a very straight forward and easy thing to remove the battery meter from the top task bar. There are tons of thread here just to solve that 1 problem.
Anyway, as for your speed dial, here it is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=919871#263842
ademonc, again, as I said in my previous post, can you soft reset your phone and write down the numbers you get from the 1st screen, just to double check you have the correct ROM. Or, go to Start - Settings - System - Device Information
thanks for yourhelp every one and the rom i just flashed my phone with is from the t-mobile website

Hard buttons config

Hi all
Can anyone send me the following registry key (and subkeys) please (of the HTC TyTN / Hermes)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
I have a problem with my power button and I've discovered that some values are missing in this registry key.
P.S.: If possible, please send me the configuration from an original rom without any third party software.
Many thanks!

Yes, until now I had not noticed that but that is indeed true on mine. I have also not carried out any customisation or even reset any of these buttons (well since last HR anyway)
Mike
Hi again Mike!
Ok, I've deleted the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C5" key and now the power button works perfectly.
I have wisbar advance 2 installed and probably, somehow I think, messing arround in his settings has created the power button mapping and that makes his behaviour anoying...
Maybe this is a solution for some other people with this problem. I've seen there are more people in the forum with the "power button problem".
Many thanks.
Power Button
Good news.
Had not seen others with the problem of the "power button" but if I spot them I'll link to here and by repeating power button problem hopefully searches will lead here!!!!
Mike

people saying that need to do a soft-reset...
is what I have been doing when the power button get stucked and it is not anymore

Well now, I wonder!
Perhaps you could write up a detailed piece on exactly what was happening and then the exact detail of what you did/changed. I have a pretty good picture but if you get the time the old blow by blow account would be useful.
Cheers
Mike
going to bed now-enough problems for one day!!!
Mike,
sorry but I dont know exactly what you want to say with "old blow by blow account". My native language is not english and I dont know that expression.
I can say that my power/toggle screen button becomes "non responsive" in the past couple of days, sometimes works after 3/4 presses or after a long press but other times I need to do a sw reset pressing with the stylus in the reset button/hole.
What I did to fix this malfunction is what I've described in this thread's 5 post (here)
I've used resco's Registry Editor and deleted the key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C5" and all of it's contents.
Now the power/toggle screen button works perfectly!
If you need some more information, just do has one of our tv commercial
"explains it as if I am too much donkey"
Cheers,
Nero
I'm from Portugal.. same GMT, sweet dreams
Would this make it in a wizard too?
Hi guys, I have a wizard with the power button inoperant, everything else looks work fine... I tried several tricks given in the forums and those are great to power it off but not for turning on the phone niether the display on. Would this make it in the wizard too?
Luiggi, take a backup of your registry (Everyone should before registry editing), and just try it!
V
Hi Guys,
does anyone know how to reconfigure the video-call button (the little button above the green button). I don't use this one, en would like to give it another function)
Thx!
Thanks VJ

Thank you Vijay I took a look to the 8125 registry and is quite different, i´m afraid this wouldn´t work for the Wizard. I´ve tried also a couple of your programas (VJKeypress and VJEscahaton) but can´t help either, my problem is to turn the phone on (i´ve been using softreset during a connection to the power supply) and all indicates that this is a hardware issue... any thoughts?
Take a full backup (eg SPB Backup) then hardreset. Test if a clean rom still has the problem. If it does, it's a hardware issue, get it repaired.
Otherwise, if it's software, list what you've got or rebuild your installation.

I follow your advice and @ 80% of flashing stalls for awhile with the progress bar in red, after some minutes proceeded turning the progress bar in blue color and @ 95% progress I got ERROR326 : INVALID COMMAND "With the legend "This NBF file can not be used for your phone. Please check your NBF file" The screen was white with the 95% progress bar and lost connection with the PC, I tried a softreset and what I got was the tricolor scren with IPL / SPL data and RUU at the top right. I´m afraid that we have another G4 casualty...
And few hours later.......
I reflashed the phone with RUU_RIsidoro_2.26.10.2_WWE+CF2SP1_G4 this time it went to the 100% progress and the congratulation screen for a succesful flashing, however stalls in bootloader screen (this time without the RUU inthe top right), whenever I do a softreset (since the on / off button still is not working) The HTC innovation splash screen shows up, then disappears and my Wizard returns to the bootloader mode. I think I should be moving to the Wizard forums, thank you VJ!

Enlarge your today screen (how to remove the bottom menu bars)

If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar

How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

WM 6 vs WM 6.1 Contacts - Top of screen

After upgrading from the oficially 6.0 to the oficially 6.1 I noticed that when I'm in contacts and select any letter to search for a contact, the first contact of that letter displays at the bottom of the screen, while in 6.0 it displayed at the top of the screen.
I like the old way, putting the first contact at the top.
Is there any settings or tweak to have this again?
129 views and no answer? Am I the only one experimenting this problem or no one cares about it?
Any clue?
It seems so
I am not facing any problem

Well, as per your sign, you are using a very old ROM. Mine says:
ROM Version 3.13.405.0 WWE
ROM Date 08/21/2008
Radio Version 1.59.42.15
Protocol Version 25.85.30.08H
Anyway, thanks for your answer
I noticed the same behaviour, but also no clue how to solve this.
Ah ditto, i'd like to know how to get the old letter bar up at the top of the contacts page and not the a-z on the side?

So True... I've only just realised this...
Starting from the top and searching to F. The first F contact is at the base. Searching back up to C, and the first C contact is at the top.
Well, at least I don't feel alone any more. Perhaps some of our gurus came with a solution ...
Guys,

No you are not alone, same thing here,
when I choose a letter in Contacts, the the first name with that letter is displayed at the bottom of screen, hence one have to scroll from there to display the rest of names.
Apparently this is a WM6.1 bug. In WM5 & WM6 the letter chosen used to display at the top of screen each time.
Another Microsoft screw up.
I wonder when will they ever take their work seriously!!!!
Can someone come up with a registry fix for that?
