Hey, I read in other threads that NoteM audio recording software worked in Windows Mobile 5.0 (WM5). All I could find was NoteM 1.21, which said it was for Pocket PC (PPC) 2003. So I downloaded it and installed the CAB on my Cingular 8525 (Hermes). It installed fine, but everytime I try to record something, it freezes. The only buttons that work are the PTT and Power buttons. I have to power it down and power it up again to bring back functionality. The recorded mp3 file is empty (0 bytes). I have the ROM 1.34.502.1 (the latest standard Cingular ROM).
Has anyone else had this problem/bug/issue? Is there another free mp3 audio recorder that works on WM5?
Here are some threads that say it works on axims and wizards:

iv jus upgraded to the XDA II, Himalaya, and i was wondering if you people knew of any mpe playing software that allows the screen to be turned off during playback other than pocket divx.
i did use that on my original XDA but it no longer plays any type of audio file when i have attempted to use it on my XDA II, mp3's or audio from within mpeg's or dixv's. im not sure why?
thanks
rick
NoteM (zavorine.net) - free mp3 voice recorder and player with LCD switch off feature. Actually I used it with PPC2002, but when upgraded to WM2003 the feature is failing to do what it should (I have MDA I).
PS: experience troubles with DivX, too!
By the way, WMplayer9 can play mp3's!
By the way, WMplayer9 can play mp3's!
as stated windows mediaplayer support screen togle
and so does the player i use which is winampaq
PocketMusic does everything
I use the free version of the PPC PocketMusic from http://www.pocketmind.com. It does everything I need. Allows the screen to be blanked. Has an equaliser. Mutes when an incoming call arrives and restarts automatically when the call is finished. Can be made to look like WinAmp if you prefer that interface. And can use PocketMusic skins or any WinAmp skin already out there.
Definitely recommend the product.
Pocket DivX on XDA II
Just an afterthought regarding the DivX player. Is it PocketMVP you are talking about? If so, did you choose to install the ATI drivers it suggests it has detected? I read somewhere else (not this forum) you shouldn't install these drivers as they cause more problems than resolve. I have PocketMVP installed without these ATI drivers and it works OK for MP3s and AVIs.

i dont think it's the player which handle that but the xda itself
at least i've never come across any program video or audio which dident do that
thanks people
hey, i downloaded that pocket music but now im having problems with that.
First up it doesn't appear in the progams list nor can i add it the the menu.,
Then when i start it it comes up immediately with a message sayin my feature pack has expired when its only just installed?
To top this i cant find the Device code that the read-me mentions, the feature pack pop up seems to be blocking it.
any ideas??
I didn't install the Feature Pack initially. I used PocketMusic on the Smartphone before getting my XDA II so knew everything it could do already. I am more than happy with the free version without any of the feature pack additions (I already paid for the version on my smartphone so think I've done my bit for their funds). Try uninstalling all the PocketMusic software and then re-install ensuring you uncheck the Feature Pack option. I think when you first start PocketMusic it tells you your device code, which you then type into a page on PocketMind.com, which then gives you a reg code.
I did install the trial version feature pack after successfully installing PocketMusic initially and didn't have any problems. I downloaded the separate file from http://www.pocketmind.com/pmfp.htm. I like some of the extras, but I've duplicated some of them using mapped buttons etc. The free version is fine for what I need.
i think the subject says it all!
Version 3.71 won't launch.
Subsequently, Conduits Pocket Player 2.61 will launch, but the playback is so slow and jittery, it either must be a dog on the processor, or this is where the limitation of the OMAP processor is revealed. Ouch.
uninstalled pocket music, but found files are still looking for it, may not have completely gone?
iMusic works!
http://imusic.citsoft.net/eng/main.asp
tried both imusic & conduits pocket player, imusic is very good but both lack a couple of facilities that pocket music had,
display off function & lock hardware buttons
Don't bother with iMusic, i was told it screws up the ringtone capability.
thanks for the advice,
i had a similar problem with pocket music with my old pda, and what helped was not to let the "auto associate files types" run during the install.
New Pocketmusic for WM5 out soon!
It will be in this month.

Subject: Pocket Music for PPC WM5?
Hello,
Please could you tell me when you will be releasing an updated version of PocketMusic for Windows Mobile 5?
It doesn’t work properly on WM5 at the moment and I think your player is the best out there!
Thanks

sorry to reply to myself, but you can set imusic to be able to turn off the display, and of course you can remove hard button controls.
:? my fault for not reading instructions
Pocket Music Not Working - NOW FIXED apart from EQ Fader
I upgraded my old o2 XDA 11s FW to I-Mate latest (in sig) I have to run PocketMusic from Program Files, dosnt show up in Programs list, AND cant switch WINAMP SKINS, what ever folder I put them in PMSKINS and SKINS
which makes me very unhappy! :x
PocketMusic v3.7.1 and running SpbPocketPCPlus2.5 dont know if this conflicts ?
SOLUTION, just downloaded the 3.71 .exe from location 2, ran it, works with skins but GRAPHIC EQUALISER not holding fader positions, any ideas?
whats wrong with built in media player?
do these players play movie files too? (divx/xvid)
unless i am wrong, you can't turn the display off in the supplied media player.
if i am wrong please tell me.
Sure you can - you can assign it to a button within Windows Media Player's options.
The downside to it is that it doesn't even support soft keys! WTF?!
PocketMusic GRAPHIC EQUALISER NOT WORKING
POCKET MUSICS GRAPHIC EQUALISER is not holding fader positions,
any ideas?
Also the "SONY" graphic is messed up, on my Winamp skin Expensive hi fi 2005 (winamp.com search skins for "expensive" its realy nice!)
I'm using I-mate latest FW ROM, and downloaded Pocket Music 3.71 from "Location 2" the .exe from www.pocketmind.com
no idea from me,
seeing that i can't even use pocket music at the moment :?
I'm using Midget_1990's Crossbow ROM 0.1
it works fine so far except:
Voice Dial button on my Bluetooth headset doesn't activate voice command - this was built-in to the rom, does it ship or is that an unofficial addition?
Windows Media only plays about 5-15 seconds of mp3s before stopping and saying: "Not enough storage to carry out the requested operation". it's fine with wma (thank goodness :¬D) works fine now :¬/
also, unrelated, i had the missing icons in vga mode problem on wm5 aku3.5 - would Midget_1990's cab file fix that?
I've recently switched to using a Bluetooth headset (Nokia HS12W) and after installing the A2DP patch it all works very nicely, except that I cannot get the AVRCP to work.
I'm using Pocket Player 2.8 with which I get great stereo (no dropouts / skipping etc.), and the music resumes after a phone call, however the remote features simply do not work. I've installed the gen_wmhost.dll from Conduits, however when I go to configure the plugin it says "No WM Plugins found".
I've since tried using WMP 10 on its own and I have exactly the same problem, If I press the pause button on the headset, it pauses for c. 5 seconds and then resumes, and the forwards / backwards buttons have no effect at all.
I assumed I'd be able to get the missing files from a backup (I use SPB backup) but that doesn't appear to include the Windows specific files. So I tried a hard reset, and then a re-install of the latest backup but I was left in exactly the same state as before. I've had a search on the web to see if I could track down a cab file, but without joy.
So.... does anyone know where I can get the WMP 10 files so I can re-install it on top of my latest configuration and hopefully get my missing WMP AVRCP plugins?
Thanks in advance
I am, with this one:
[REV. 2/6/09 Ver.16 BURGUNDY] PDAviet TouchFLO Manila 2D WM6.1 V6.1.405.16
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475779
and now I cannot recall if I had similar problem on a similar ROM:
ROM HERALD WWE 6.1 BUILD 20764.1.4.3 (Blue clear)
but I read of someone having a similar problem yesterday -- in a Kaiser thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3296305#post3296305
PROBLEM: Using touchflo, slide to Music tab, click "play" arrow, and song plays for 10-15 seconds then stops. Then nothing is clickable within the audio manager interface. To get out of this, I have to slide to another Touchflo tab, then back to Music, and I can start up the song aian, but same thing will happen.
I tested by playing the same song in Windows Media Player and it was fine, played thru no problem. Meanwhile using Audio Manager, every song behaves this way.
ANyone else experiencing this?
(Note to Moderator: I have no idea if this is correct forum in which to post this. It seems correct since I'm experiencing it as a Herald ROM problem.)
If for any reason someone else had this problem with music files only playing 30-40 seconds in Audio Manager... I finally solved the problem, figured it out.
I had copied a bunch of music files from my Mac onto my Micro-SD card, assuming they would play just fine once the card was inserted inot my WING. Wrong.
At least for this scenario, of this hardware and software, you'll have to copy over music files via your PC -- whether thru Micro-SD card/reader or USB cable.
