my mda compact is palying up agian. some time ago the downkey decided not to work very annoying , the most annoying part was when i put the device on standby via the side button then turned it on the highlight shoots all the way down the option (owner the 4 icons, task, messges, appointment) all the way down as if i i was holding the down button down. this is really annyoing becuse if i leave my phone on silent someone rings after they have stopped calling the highligh parts shoots down the menu and will sit at the bottom of the screen highlighting battery it will then sit there and the and the battery will run flat very quick. when i turn the device off standby and the highlight shoots down if i press up down left or right it stops but i cant use the downkey.now when it first did this it did it for 2 days then sorted it self out was fine for weeks then happend again but didnt change for a month so i hard reset it and it was fine for 3 weeks then it happend again and THEN WHATS EVEN STRANGER is that the screen colours have packed up.everything is now blurred and pixelated its as if the colur setting went from 1000s to 100s (its hard to describe) if i take a photo all the clour scheme is messed up its like running comic book (ink effect) i then hard reset again and everything sorted out 2 monthts later its down it agian BOTH things i have hard reset it 2ce with no effect and im very angry as i had to sacrifce all my data hoping it would fix to that also also there is no sound out the devices rear speker although i have head this is because of the headphone jack although to be honest thats the smallest problem to me
any help would be so appreacited i thank all that took the time to read this as its pretty long
THANK YOU

Hello, My G1 has just suffered a problem, i was scrolling down a web page and the screen faded out like it had lost power but the backlight was still on, the keys lit up and it still could make the trackball clicking noise when you moved it. I took out the battery and left it for 5 minutes and rebooted my phone and the screen turned on for about 3 seconds and faded out like before but it did boot into android as I heard the notification/startup sound. I think that the screen has burnt out but im not shore so has anybody had this problem before and/or might know how to fix it
Just some more infomation, If the screen dies and I leave it for a few minutes, when I unlock it or slide the screen up, the screen works for a few seconds but then fades. Also the fading looks like the screen lost power or like its losing pixels
From my experience with phone hardware this doesnt look like screen problem, but rather the lamp driver in the motherboard. the only way to narrow down is test the motherboard /screen with another phone.
If this is the case, it might require servicing the backlight driving circuit, which by far requries soldering/desoldering some components in motherboard.

had the same problem its a hardware issue. tmobile sent me a new phone no questions asked
Thanks for the replies, it seems that it has fixed its self as I've been using it for about 5 hours and no problems so far, I'm using it right now to type this, if the problem persists I will try and fix it or just buy a new one
My screen ocasionally shakes and turns half white and half with black stripes on a white background, it recoveres after i put it in standby.
I am pretty sure it is a hardware problem because if i press the phone (i press the top part against the qwerty keyboard part) the shaking goes off but the screen still turns white. I have sean a video on youtube on how to fix this but i don;t know how true it is and i don;t belive that is the solution. back home i have a spare motherboard... but home is farrrr away so i am looking for another solution.
I changed the rom thinking that was causing it but it was not. i am thinking about overclocking the cpu , maybe that will help ( you can see that i am desperate )
I hope you can come up with a solution.
thank you for taking your time to read my post.
since i did the trick presented on youtube i don;t have that screen shaking problem.. this is 1st day , i will come back after a week and tell you if it really works
Hello good folks,
I would like a bit of help with sorting my phone out. As of Thursday morning (2 AM or so) my phone has a black screen. The phone switches on, the touchscreen works (I can unlock it, put it to silent, hold the power key and tap the places on screen that would normally switch it off to do just that), the volume keys work, I can receive calls, the back light works.
Everything is as it should be, but I cant see a damn thing!
I should note that this happened once before, about a month ago and a few hours later it was back to normal. Also, I have noticed over the past few months a very small black circle at the top edge of the screen, about half a centimetre in diameter.
Please help!
Kindest regards.
It's the first time I read such an issue, your screen's probably defective.
To eliminate a probable OS issue, does the bootloader appear flawlessly ?
No, nothing appears at all. The screen is completely black at all times!
Your screen is malfunctioning, I don't know what's causing it and I don't know if you can fix it yourself either.
I think you are better off sending it back, if still under warranty.
Otherwise, ... ?
This just happened to me NOW....I'm waiting hopefully it will fix itself as i hear the HD2 heals itself LOL
My phone's navigation bar stopped working, it doesn't even show any light when I get a notification. Everything else on the screen works, but since the home/back/menu buttons don't work I have to reset the phone whenever I want to check something and I can't go back. I've tried to restart it, to do a hard reset but nothing seems to work.
Once this happened my phone also stopped playing sounds, I can't even listen to the sounds when choosing a ringtone.
Please help me, I've never seen anything like this! Thanks
I had the same problem, it was the cable inside the Phone that is disconnected.
You've to remove the back cover, remove the frame (remove all the screws and connect the plug)
It is not easy to remove the back cover, you'll need heat, and if possible a suction tool so you'll not force only one side of the back cover...
I was almost an half of hour to remove the back cover...but fortunately I had success!
[Solved - same as TiagoRveiga, cables were disconnected]
I also had this problem, the one were the buttons don't work. You can always go to the notification bar and from there go to settings where you can go to apps, chose one and open. Instead of rebooting. It took me a while to discover this easy trick... Now I've had my boyfriend install an extra onscreen home button, return and other thingy. You lose one cm room on the screen but I have settled with it.
Other problems are though: camera never works anymore, after six months. After four months rebooting sill helped sometimes...
With the camera also the flashlight...
Also the sound when calling, nobody hears me, but I hear everything... This after a year suddenly...
A week after this issue, all sound disappeared like with yours, but also gradually. First from time to time and then bam, nothing.
This shows me that there is nothing wrong with the hardware, the camera is not broken, everything on the inside is connected. It are glitches... The software on this phone stinks, really bad...
Umi zero desides when I get to call, listen to music, take pictures... I don't like that. Tomorow, after one year and three months, I give up, my new one plus x will arrive and umi goes with the garbage... I suggest you all folow my lead, the more you try, the more problems that will appear.
