or do i need to upgrade to TTV6?
yes
Yes, TT5.21 works fine. I use the LVSW version and used the WMXL. In both configuration TT5.21 worked.
OK, thanks. I must have some other problem then
Don't suppose you know if TT 5.21 works better then TT6 on WM6. I have more lockups and freezes on my phone when I have TT installed (even if it's not running). It's not much, it seems every day or two it freezes but usually I don't realize (service lights keep blinkin away) and I miss calls
I'm running (or trying to run) TT6 on my WM6 LVSW ROM SPV M3100. Not had any problems with any other aps but TT6 is constantly locking up. I'm currently running TT6 V 6.03 but have also tried V6.02 which also seems to have serious ssues with WM6. I'll be keeping a close eye on the TomTom website for software upgrades!

One thing I did find that HELPS is be sure you install the software onto your system itself and not an external card. You can store maps and voices on the the card but when you have TT6 running off the card and it crashes, I was left only with the option of resetting. Running off the system itself, half of the time I could hit the end call button on the phone and it would minimize tom tom. Then when I reclicked the tom tom link, it would start responding again or I could close it and kill it fromt he control panel and restart. I still have the occasional hard freezes none the less but this is a lot better as 75% of the time I can recover
I think it already is installed to the main memory cus the .exe is located in the main memory Programs folder. I'm regularly hitting the red answer release and ok buttons too. Just such a pain. Come n TomTom. I did a search on on their website and theres is no mention of WM6 anywhere!

Probably because WM6 isn't officially out. It's been officially announced but we are not using final software. I suspect some time after the final version is out, they will release a new version supporting it.
Running TomTom5.21
No issues at all on WM6 Black 1.2 runs even better then on WM5, the UI is much quicker in WM6. Even turning on my GPS unit has instant access, I always had issues with WM5, I had to "refresh" the GPS under bluetooth for TomTom to find it.
Running it on an imate JasJam.
i re-installed it after loading WM6 Black and now it works great. Used to startup in 60 seconds on WM5. Now approx 12 secs on WM6 - brilliant
Tom Tom 6 v6.030 on WM5 2.11 ROM without any problems here.
Startup is around 6-8 seconds (I have a crappy Bluetooth GPS so sat lock-on takes a bit longer) and lockup free. Went on a 160 mile round trip last weekend and never had a single problem.

how do you get tom tom working ?
it keeps telling me to instal maps, wich i already did
Did you use official map installs or warez?
the map that comes with the tom tom software, you first install the navigator app and then you can install maps, then i install the netherlands and want to start tom tom on my mda and it says that i should install maps from the cd first
I had this, I think it happened because I installed everything at once without clicking the "ok" buttons on the PDA after each app installed (i.e it installs about 5 things, tom tom nav, tom tom gps, tom tom wizard, tom tom maps etc). If you dont click ok after each one it can get confused and not install the map.
Uninstall the map using activesync add/remove, then re-install it from the cd, making sure to click ok on the pda if it asks you.
If that doesnt work uninstall the whole lot using activesync, soft reset, then install from scratch but make sure to keep an eye for ok buttons on the pda while installing.
Also make sure you have enough memory, the maps are big (16mb, 32mb, 64mb and 128mb...dont know how big the netherlands one is).
Jez.
well its working now i think it was because the memory card i installed it on was not empty, i used an empty card now and everything is working
I cannot get it to install completely, as soon as i click on install it finds my JAM and an error message appears saying something about "File hierarchy" and tomtom support say that JAM is not a compatible phone for the navigator system. Can anyone help
anybody try the tomtom BT GPS?
works good for me with tomtom3 and blue tooth tomtom GPS.
first i had problem to install but it was because i use a USB hub.tomtom need a direct connection to install (there is a faq on TomTom site).
after to connect the bluetooth GPS ,you open Tom tom navigator , you ve got to go on the icone GPs state, then in Gps Folder choose "TomTom Wireless GPS" in the first window and "Bluetooth GPS" in the second.
good luck...
my jam always seems to freeze on tomtom 3.07 after a while im on v1.11 and bluetooth patch using an globalstat BT GPS :\ fecking thing

Your freezing problem is prob because of your choice of memory cards, certain cards work well some not @ all, lotsa threads about this.
yeah i just found that out i have a peak ultra 60x high speed 1gb sd and a 256mb simpletech one the simpletech one works great but yet the 1gb one freezes
I am using the TomTom BT GPS w/ my Jam too.
But I am not using the Tomtom software (since I found Routis V2 is much better for voice prompt and routing in US). I don't even need to install the GPS driver. Just pair it once and it will connect eveytime I open up my GPS software.
Four things about Tom Tom on JAM:
1. It seems to be equally as buggy as the rest of the JAM so no knowing when wierd stuff happens whether or not it is TomTom or the JAM or something else. That said when you do get it going, it does work nicely most of the time. Some intermittent weird behaviour:
- sometimes won't change maps
- keeps turning JAM back on when I turn it off. Have to close TT3 to get it to stop.
- without a power source, screen keeps going dark
- occassional BT issues
2. When TomTom doesn't see the maps at all but you know you've installed them, make sure you haven't deleted a file in the root of your SD card called "ignore_my_docs" which is a zero byte file that is hidden. This caused me a bit of pain for a while.
3. Because of my previous issue, I discovered when I emailed TomTom support that TomTom doesn't in fact support this release on the Magician and won't help you if you tell them that is what you have. So if you do need support make sure you give them the name of a device that they do support.
4. TT3 user interface leaves a lot to be desire IMHO, and the one thing that drives me nuts is that I have this SD card full of wonderful maps that I have paid for yet I can't simply type in an address just to look at the map, I have to pretend to make a journey, connect the GPS, blah, blah, blah. The only way around this I found is that if you keep address information in your contacts, you can select the "Show TomTom map" option.
I've TT3 3.07 on my magician with an adapt bt gps and it works fine. You do have to shut down the application as stated above, the device will keep switching on if you don't. But one problem is irritating: I live in Belgium where there is a general speed limit of 120 Km/h. I set the prefs so that the safe speed warns me showing no map but only arrows. If I drive too fast for a while the QTek S100 switches off and sometimes back on if I slow down under 120 Km/h. I didn't have this prob on my other, wired, device.
I have serious problems with my TyTn freezing all the time. Especially in TomTom it freezes every 2 or 3 screenclicks. Going back to the today screen (and then back to TomTom) solves the problem, but then a few clicks later the same problem.
Also in other applications the same problem, but not as often as in TomTom.
I hard resetted my device, but no solution.
Anyone the same problems (or perhaps a solution)???
I've noticed exactly the same in TomTom !

It sounds like a low memory or storage card problem. I have had the occasional freeze in TomTom, but this is quickly solved by pressing the Windows button twice to open and close the start menu.
I have noticed that memory seems to always be pretty low on my Hermes, regardless of what I'm doing.
As for a possible storage card problem, sometimes when accessing the storage card for the first time since a soft reset, you'll see a noticeable delay as it reads icon images from executable files. This mostly seems to be a problem with older software though.
i got the same trouble but i found i got more freezing on TT6 than the older version.
let me know if you have same guys, maybe because the map size is very big (around 1go)
bye
offhand I'd say there's a problem with TomTom...
tomtom 6 freezing+web page disappears
i have the same problem, tend to delay rushing next tap of stylus, seems to solve it, it seems it cant handle quick tapping in tomtom 6.looks like a memory problem on mda vario II.olso noticed when browsing my web pages .It defaults back to today screen, for no apparent reason.
the mda vario II is a great machine, just a few bugs,to solve.
had a mda pro before but this is a far better machine
Yup I have this problem on 5.21 and not tapping too quickly solves it.
Interestingly I needed an activation code from TOMTOM (I have legit TomTom software but due to a change of PDA hardware I have used the 2 device activations TOMTOM seem to give you).
And this is what they told me ".....Your PocketPC type is not compatible with our TomTom NAVIGATOR 5. We cannot, unfortunately, guarantee that your PDA type will work free of problems in combination with our latest software. Therefore we will not be providing you with an activation code simply because your model of PDA the ORANGE SPV 3100, is NOT at the moment COMPATABILE with our NAVIGATOR 5 product."
Thanks TOMTOM :x
anybody found the solution? i have the same problem.

This has solved the problem I had on my Hermes with it locking up on the menu screens and I have seen a significant speed increase.

I have searched before ask, i don't find anything ((( with a little map works perfectly, but this isn't a solution ((
Can you help me to find the solution?
Thanks.
I have the same problem with Cingular 8525, i flash to Dopod Rom and now works fine, i don't know if this is why, but you guys can try!
I asked the same question. I have tomtom NAVIGATOR 6 and have the same problem. I got these answers and am debating whether to flash to unlock and upgrade the AKU to 3.3. It's a big step into bandit country for me:

I have had long debates with tomtom over its 'support'. The people I dealt with did not make me feel like a valued customer.
i have a xda exec with crossbow i tried delorme 2005 and streets and trips from microsoft but none work does anyone know one that will work
TomTom 6 works, iGo also works, but sometimes hangs every few seconds for me.
thanks
will try

exactly the same here. TomTom 6 works flawless and iGo sometimes gets really slow (but it did that on AKU 3.5 too) and sometimes it quits. Didn't try Navigon though. Perhaps next week.
I've found the hanging on iGo to be a result of looking for an attached, either wired or otherwise, gps device. You can disable the auto searching for the gps and still use iGo for general mapping/routing. In fact its actualy very very good. Graphics wise much better than TomTom. It can be speeded up by deleting any non-UK languages/voices stored on the sd card.
Hello,
I'm running a stock 8525 (ROM v1.34.502.1) with several hacks (works great). I just purchased a Qstarz BT-Q818 and it worked out of the box with Google Maps and even Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006. Neither of these products are fully-capable GPS navigational products.
I've seen questions and comments about TomTom 6, upgrades from 5, work with WM6, etc, - but I'm curious if anyone can share their experiences installing and using TomTom 6 on Windows Mobile 5. I plan to use US maps, but I don't know if the selected country's maps makes a difference to the reliability, ease-of-use, or installation experience. I don't plan to migrate to WM6 for a bit (until I have a real good reason).
Thanks in advance for your opinions!
Well, I can't help you with Tom Tom on WM05 with this phone.
I had my phone for all of 1 phone call, text message and MMS before I went to WM-6.
That said, I've got Tom Tom 6 with the latest (US and Canada) maps on it, and it works great. Mind you, it isn't as fast (overall) as the dedicated Tom Tom units are, but it gets the job done. In fact on the new LVSW it is pretty close to being at the same speed as a GO300. I'm using it with a Visiontac VGPS-700 bluetooth antenna.
Also, I've got a Motorola MPx and used Tom Tom extensively on that. It is running windows mobile 2003 (IIRC). Obviously its way slower than the 8525, but it worked just fine and got me where I needed to go.
The hardest part of the install on either unit is to get Tom Tom to "see" the bluetooth GPS. And, actually on the MPx it is way easier than on the 8525 with WM06.
I know, I know... you wanted experiance with WM05... but thought that this would help at least a bit.
Thank you, this is helpful. If it turns out I'm the last person on the planet still running WM5, then I'll have to upgrade. Basically, my ROM was ok out of the box and I applied my hacks and apps without any trouble, so I haven't considered an upgrade given the stability vs risk + stability considerations.
I run TT6 on WM5 and I love it. I have had zero stability issues and it works great with my HOLUX 236 BT GPS. I also can receive/send email, calls, internet all while it is running in the background with little to no issues. Once and a while, when I am updating traffic (BOSTON,NYC AREA) performance can be a little slow if I'm multitasking. Other than that, it's flawless for me!
Ditto on the good reports - have run tomtom6 for many 10-15 hour drives, never had any issues. The phone integration features of TT6 are handy - being able to call a POI (eg, pizza shop) from TT6 is sometimes useful. Switches seamlessly between calls and the nav screen without dramas. Handles loss of GPS signal or a slightly incorrect map fine.
Er, you may very well be the last person with WM5 , I've got WM6 as well
@ Guy... lol, except for the guy before you who is running it on WM05.
Oh, I forgot to mention, On my Mpx, I could take two calls with Tom Tom running in the background before the phone would lock up and I'd have to soft reset.
With the 8525, I've had a couple of days where I was on the phone, and forgot Tom Tom was running and it ran from the time I went to work until I left... a 10-12 hour day making calls sending sms and mms, some internet searches etc...never locked the phone up.
I ran TT6 on the stock Vodafone UK WM5 ROM and it was ok but every now and then it would lock up and I would have to end the app and start it up again.
I upgraded to WM6 for one reason SPEED, I don't know about your WM5 ROM but mine was slow. I got so fed up of waiting for 2 seconds after I pressed the red button for a call to end. It did my t*ts in.
Anyway, running TT6 on WM6 has been a superior experience so far as it has not locked up once (on Black 2.0/2.5). Only small gripe is that when a call comes in while using TT the HERMES does not return to the TT screen until the call is finished (you can manually switch back to TT).
One thing to watch out for is the Black 2.5 ROM which updates your HERMES device code and therefore requires TT re-activating. Because of this I have reverted to Black 2.0 (which I find better on battery consumption incidently).
HTH.
TT6 on Std UK T-Mob WM5 ROM
I found that TT6 runs OK but I had to turn off the plotting (on screen) of all the POIs to get it to run smoothly. Some people seem to have reported issues with the rate of data access from their MicroSD cards so it's worth getting a good card (NB - lots of issues reported with Sandisk cards). I run TT6, my phone and CamerAware (which warns about cameras better than TT6). I have had the odd lock-up but in the main all works very well and I am able to count on TT6 with my Vario II. BTW - I use the Holux GPSlim240 which is very nice.
I have even got Windows Live Search running at the same time with a GPS plotted position and mapping/Sat view running from a 3G connection - all very impressive to mates if of little in-car use whilst driving!
Regards

I just installed wm6 and i try and run the start app that installs tomtom and it doesnt do anything im using xplore 1.1!
Hi there I recently upgraded my blue angel to WM6, And ever since TomTom Navigator 6 has been running so slow its unusable. Every time I press anything I have to wait between 40-60 secs before it executes the press. Everything else apart from TOMTOM runs fine and zippy. Is there a patch or tweak to give me the speed back.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I have tried both Tomtom 5 and Tomtom 6 on thisd WM6 ROM and have no problems at all. It runs very fast. The problem is with your machine.
Just one tip: TomTom is really ****ty app and sometimes have such odd delays because of searching for GPS. Turn GPS function off (offline mode or whatever is the name) or connect the GPS before starting TT. It helps. This is the only aplication I know that has this king of problem.
On WM5, the solution to TomTom slow down was to make sure the phone radio was turned on before launching TomTom. For some reason Tomtom freezes up if you start it when the phone radio is off.
thank you Fredrick_Fredrickson. Worked a treat . Thank you everyone else that took the time to read and reply.
Have exactly the same problem, but my phone is always turned one. Maybe someone got some more ideas?
U pleople are legends
Thanks for all the help in this forum
Very late arrival to this thread, but just wanted to say a big thanks to Fredrick_Fredrickson for that advice, which works great - had the slow/unusable Tomtom bug across different versions of TT Navigator and on different roms - just turned the phone radio on and it suddenly works perfectly. So glad I found this thread!
I had similar issues with tomtom after upgrading to wm6.1, make sure your beam is turned off which should help, as it uses one od the avaliable com ports, My problem resolved by moving on to a different version of TomTom as the one i had was just so glitchy when BA was running on battery power,
