So i'm in saudi arabia now for the holidays and i'm going to trade my K-Jam (Wizard) in for a jasjam. Today i stopped by the Axiom service center, which is one of the most popular warranty providers here, and i asked them about the screen alignment issue and the guy told me he's had no problems with the JasJam.. is that right? I've looked in the wiki and didn't notice anything about the JasJam so i just wanted to make sure.
My other quetions pertain to rom's and programs but i guess i could figure all that out when i get the baby in my hands. But is there anything else i should be aware of before hand?
Thanks in advance and i look forward to moving over to the Hermes thread!

Well as regards the Screen Alignment problem I believe this is far less of an issue than it was. I do still see the odd comment though, that someone with a newer device has a problem.
You are obviously not new to the forum and I guess you've looked around the Hermes posts but maybe this one is relevant?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280383&page=5
Might also want to search a bit on video playback issues regarding the likes of Coreplayer (TCPMP) where there have been issues. Also some issues with bluetooth might be worth searching. Wifi range maybe an issue 10-15metres ok but weak over this distance. One or two with slack/loose sliding keyboards - check if possible for firm clicks on open and closed when buying. Less of an issue now but some keyboards have slightly unresponsive keys - work but need very firm or firmer press again check on purchasing if possible.
Just some thoughts, despite any niggles a great device.
Mike
Thanks for your reply. As for software issues, i've read posts about them and figured thats something i'd deal with when i get the device, i'm mainly concerned about hardware issues. Wifi is pretty useless to me on a daily basis because i have the unlimitted data package, which i abuse to the MAX! that brings another question, hows the batter with a data connection always on? because the nokia N80 doesn't last through the day with its UMTS bands on.
The sliding mechanism, even if i knew nothing about the device, thats something i'd automaticly check, the sliding integrity. Also i remember about 2 months ago reading about issues with the sticky/hard keys, i'll check that out as well, but pretty sure most stores won't let me put the battery in it till i pay and after that i have to deal with the company that the device's warranty is under.j
i'm gonna do some more snooping around in the hermes thread but what bluetooth issues are you talking about specifically? i don't use a bt headset, but i might buy a stereo one if the battery can handle about 4 hours of music playback a day. Also that fossil/sony ericsson BT watch looks pretty neat, might grab one of those as well, but i just treated myself to a Concord Saratoga with the chronographs 3 days ago so don't need another watch
Thank you mike for your input and i'm really excited to get this device! i'm supposed to attend 2 christmas parties tonight, pretty sure i'm either going to be in the corner playing with my JasJam or at my parents place watching it charge!
Happy playing with new toy!
The bluetooth thing is more software than hardware, the following will give you some idea:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1079019
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287100&highlight=stack
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287210&highlight=stack
I cannot really summarise as I don't really use bluetooth myself.
Mike
Thanks for your replies, i skipped my best friends X-Mas dinner to go buy my Hermes... haha, its ok he's a tech freak as well and he'll understand. Just plugged in my baby into the charger and my girlfiends jealous already so can't touch it for 8 hours... so my girlfriend will keep me occupied till then
Now i've got to figure out which is the best rom and and whats the best case for me... i don't want to put a scratch on this thing, unlike my K-Jam which looked like it went through a war!!
Thanks again, heading over to the upgrading and accessories thread to bug some people there

Hi guys,
This will be my new sub forum. Have a new xda trion on delivery for the next few days. Can't wait.
Tried buying a Trinity but it didn't work when I got it so ended up sending it back to the seller.
Got looking at the Hermes range and thought it looked smart so I've taken the plunge. Hope it's ok when it arrives.
Will no doubt get lots of help from your forums.
Will play with the phone for a while first before starting to mod it or whatever but will be browsing the forum for the latest things to do.

welcome mate - you will not regret it, i got a xda trion too (2nd hand but practically brand new) and i love it to bits.
id suggest when starting to mod upgrade to crc 9.1 for a stable fast rom, and if you drive install tomtom on it with an external gps reciever, get a microSD card 2gb+ and not only do you have a phone you have
GPS and media player too
My advice to anybody new to the phone.
1) Read ALL relevant parts of the WIKI
2) Read MrVanx's upgrade guide.
3) Install HardSPL
4) Always use the MicroSD card for flashing ROMS/RADIO
Thanks for the welcome, advice and prompt replies - Wam7 and kingsizeriz. I can't wait for the phone to arive.
I have a couple of psp's which I have installed custom firmware on and used pandora batteries on so the prospect of fettling the phone is not completely alien to me, although lots of reading first will be the order of the day.
Am really far too addicted to new technology for my own good. What with the internet and psp's. I used to have a zx81, then a commodore 64, then a psion before I got on to my pc. Have also had an hp ipaq for a number of years. The only thing wrong with it was that it isn't a phone too. So the new toy will fulfil all my requirements. Just got a Garmin 660 too to play with in the car.
Where is the best place to get micro sd cards and gps receivers?
Ta in advance.
Lyv
MicroSD cards - amazon or ebay (cheap and cheerful - even if they are fake "sandisks" etc
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2GB-Micro-SD-...ryZ98876QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
GPS Recievers - ebay - i have a fake holex gps reciever branded "holox" but its better than any other i have tried
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=320246567642&Category=139838
The main advise i give to you is when you recieve your phone dont get too eager.. read everything and read it again to prevent a very expensive paperweight.

Hahaha, the old ZX81 with the rubber keypads, noe that takes me back. Did the C64, Amiga things as well
Go for the 8GB MicroSD, might as well, you won't regret it! kingsizeriz is also spot on with the Holux GPS's but try and make it's SiRFStar III.
Noooooo the zx81 didn't have rubber keypads that was the sinclair spectrum, from what I remember at my advanced age. I never did get the amiga though but did get a wobbly 16k rampak for my zx81, yes all you out there, 16k! No hard disk drives in those days, I used a tape recorder to load dos and it took so long that I could have a game of darts whilst I was waiting.
Will think about the 8gb and have a look at the receiver. And yes, I will read and then read again.
Ta guys.

Hahaha, yes nostalgia does have a way of distorting your memory. It was the ZX Spectrum but I had a TRS-80 before that. Oh yes, the old tape to load program how times have changed.... anyway back O.T. I have two MicroSD cards, a 1GB just for flashing (a 256MB or 512 MB will do) and a 6GB as my main card.
i'd go for a bigger one if money is not an issue. i got a 2gb due to lack of funds..
That's a good idea. Will get two cards then. Any body got any experience of using dual sim cards with the xda trion. Don't fancy the ones where you have to cut the cards though.
Cheers

Got my new phone on Saturday. Brill. Busy working my way through all the buttons, menus, handbook etc. Have managed to get the internet connected and working ok, thanks to a post I found on this website. Am a cheapskate on pay and go but have the web bolt on which gives you "reasonable" access.
Seems good up to now, am a bit suprised though how slow windows is, it's running on wm5.
When I'm more used to the think I'll have a search round to see if Opera or some such other speeds accessing the internet up.
Will be back with updates no doubt.

I don't think ANYONE will disagree, WM05 SUX!!!! Slow and laggy are just the first of many problems. WM 6 is better and finally WM6.1 seems to be getting built REALLY stable and REALLY fast. Would suggest upgrading to wm 6 AT LEAST.... Do however, as was previosly stated do some reading about upgrading and most importantly, Hard SPL your phone BEFORE rom flashing. It seems no matter how many times this is stated some yahoo knows better and thinks nothing can go wrong... They are generally found with posts like "ROM FLASH WENT WRONG...HELP!!!" (or like that). These are also the ones who just go gung-ho and upgrade without reading anything.. As per your posts I believe you have done some research so this sermon is for all noobs out there(and yes I too was one once) do some research, Flash Hard SPL and if need be, unlock your phone.... This will minimize risks associated with flashing. Dont screw around with your radio rom UNLES YOU REALLY MUST as this is the one thing that SERIOUSLY bricks most phones. There is no surefire fix. Enough bashing.
Really would upgrade to at least wm06 as it is SO much better than wm05. Good luck, have fun and Welcome....
Thanks ultramag for the info. When I get the confidence and spare micro cards I'll have a go at upgrading. Think I have a steep learning curve to follow yet tho'

I've been using WinMo for a few years now - since I got a C500 ( a great device) and I love my Athena BUT it's getting a bit battered and the camera no longer works and I've had it a while. I've also found myself using my C600 because the Athena is, let's face it, a bit of a brick to carry all the time.
I know it's blasphemy but I've actually been looking at the Nokia E90 - has anyone else looked at this and decided to go for it - or not?
Any views on the E90?
Cheers
To be honest, jumping from one OS to another is a tough decision. If you are dependent on 3rd party applications such as myself, then you will have a problem with symbian. If you use the device for it's calendar, phone, editing word, or any built-in application, then switchng to the E90 is the best choice for you.
My first PDA was palm OS, although I love it, switching from Palm to WM was easy because of the availability of 3rd party software that I needed.
Hope this helps...
i got a sony ericsson p1i, symbian uiq 3.0. if im honest, its a great normal phone, and replaced my athena. but it has bugs i cant solve like sms not appearing in the today plugin-like thing. [its basically like spb diary, with pluses for calenday inbox and tasks, but inbox always reads zero even when texts have been recieved, so i have to always check inbox manually]
Anyways, its limited though, you can get the programs you need, but it just isnt wm. when i first got it, it literally made my athena redundant, because of its small size, same camera, and realy because my athena is more for fun. but recently, ive began using my athena again. [on my trip to wigan yesterday i had my athena on for about an hour on the journey, purrely for opera and wlm. uiq3 has opera 8.65 or whatever the last v8 one was installed, and it works wiht finger scrolling and all that, but it just isnt the same as 96dpi 9.5. and things like i cant change the brightness easily, or connect to wlan, and theres about 6 types of gprs/3g connection and half o the time it connects to the wrong one and stuff like that.
so confucious, if you want to downscale in size and other things, then go for the symbian route, but if not, get a touch diamond
as ive said though, im using iuq 3, wheras the e90 has s60 [i think]
Rory
Thanks for the reply - I've just bought a 'refurbished' E90 of fleabay - lets hope it's OK when it gets here!
i hope youre sill gona keep your athena, i will miss your funny remarks if you get rid of it.

It was Leoni who posted the review I think.
Would be interexted to see that review but you can't search for e90 and user Roni only has 1 post (there are many other roniXXXs)
I will, of course keep my Athena and will let you know how I get on with my e90 and how it compares - that is, of course, if it arrives and is usable....

My E90 turned up today after winning it yesterday morning £171 inc P&P - that was for the phone and battery only - I've ordered a charger and car charger for another £13 but don't have tanything else - won't miss the headphones and software I can download - am I missing anything?
I seem to have a bargain!

My ears pricked up.
Don't forget to upgrade your firmware to enable flash support. It works great on the E90s screen. And get an 8gb micro sdhc from play.com if you don't have one already. I thoroughly recommend coreplayer for symbian too: it works superbly with almost any video you throw at it, including .flv.
And of course Garmin xt for all you'd satnav needs
Ordered 4Gb card cos they are cheap.
The latest firmware doesn't seam to be available - it was up then taken down. I guess I'll find out when it is released!
I use CP7 for SatNav - will have to get them to dort it out so it works on the E90 screen!
Thanks for the advice.
wow! 177 for an e90, i have never looked but always assumed they were more then the athena.
im waiting for your impressions
Rory
they're cheaper than the Athena but 177 is an incredibly low price - I'm impressed.
Ive always been caught up somewhere between a business and a pleasure device, and for me the E90 ticked more boxes than the Athena because as well as push email and document viewing/editing there's a much better camera and video recorder and better flash support from within the browser (not to mention a nicer keyboard for typing on).
With the new touch 4 rom the Athena looks great, and Opera 9.5 is a big step forward but still the E90 has the edge for me.
It was £171 but another £13 for chargers.
Woke up this morning and battery is flat
My charger hasn't arrived yet but can borrow one at work
So far I'm very impressed but got problems getting my cert on it so haven't got Push email working yet.

You might already know that Copilot 7 is just released for Symbian devices.
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/14637/15661/copilot-7-available-symbian-phones.phtml
Yes, i still haven't received my DVD from them but have already downloaded it. I haven't installed it yet as I am waiting for my memory card to turn up!
Apparently it doesn't work properly on the big screen so I've already asked about them fixing that....
First i would like to say hello,
and secondly i would like to say that this is my First XDA and i apologise in advance if i appear a complete n00b! But hey that what i am!
I finally made the plunge to go for Orbot 2 which is why i am posting in this forum since from my understanding it is a polaris ( correct me if im wrong)
reasons for change was that i have tried lots of so called smart phones and just not found one that i am completley happy with, mainly the e90, most un reliable wifi and gps ever! and have been using a SPV500 for about 3 months and still love it, its 5 years old (feels like it) and still is probably hands down the phone i rely on the most! and new HTC phones still built like a bunker?
anyway to get to the whole point of the post! (finally i hear you say)
So since im new and not knowledgeable in xda things as of now i have a few questions,
1) ive download all the SPB programs and menus, are these worth it?
2) and killer programs that i shouldt be without? browser, games, themes etc
3) ive read loads of reveiws and mostly positive, the one thing i read was that the 02 formware is sloppy since the video drivers dont work too well, Is this true? if so can i replace them and speed it all up?
4) when i tried using tomtom on me E90 here wasnt support for internal gps receivers, is this still the case? is it worth getting tomtom and ditching copilot?
5) shoudl i use a silicon case or is the phone housing good enough to avoid scratches?
if you could answer all or some of these it would start we off on a good foot!
also any advice will be warmly received!
Thanks in advance

The case that comes with the orbit 2 (uk) it is pretty good that is what i use. However if you want to protect it with a higher level of protection, silicone case will do the job. I don't use it because of my car mount, the phone will not fit on the car mount that comes with the orbit 2.

First, there are only two tabs.
Second, they are brass, not gold.
Third, I believe they are springs designed to keep the door under tension and facilitate its removal.

The ones you are talking about are on either side of the phone when you take the cover off. There are corresponding spots on the cover. Mine are a silver color. The ones the original poster asked about are indeed gold in color and number in three. I say they are there for testing purposes. A faster way to connect to the phone maybe.
The HTC carkit mount comes with a special battery door cover, that the mount snaps into, and also connects through...so it's just a guess (I don't have the carkit myself), but I'd think those are the pins that the car mount uses to pass data, or current for charging

Yes, i would say the same thing. I would guess they are for the car kit because the base of the car kit has power running through it
I would have to jump on the bandwagon on this one and say yes to the carkit feature, due to the pictures found here:

I tell this to my own children, don't take anything personal on the InterNet?,
Get what you can out of it? and filter the Trash?, and yes I am really human so on occasion I will have trash too?
If you look at the very simple "Question" I was asking? "Do You Know?" what this is? and if you do? "Please" let me and everyone who is Interested "KNOW"

If we removed all the responses that weren't certain, you'd be sitting here talking to yourself right now.
Most everyone who tried to point you in the right direction did indeed mention that their answers (mine included) were speculation and not first-hand knowledge. If that isn't useful to you, we've granted all forum members the right to ignore any post they want. Yes, any. And we set it up such that you can (and should!) do so without flaming anybody
Someone truly self-aware would recognize that even if help doesn't come in the exact form requested, it's not worthy of disdain.

You are right on many things, but I was not looking for "Absolutes", I was just looking for some "Idea" for it what it might be?
and I regress in my reasoning in putting "Wrong" x3, once should have been enough, my skin became thin from just leaving a controversial site so my frustration level was all wound up?, That I apologies for.
On the matter that I would be "Sitting by Myself?" and for all, as I said before, Have a Happy Great Day!
Lets now leave the Emotional part and get to the Fun Tech Part.
I did find out by talking to T-Mobile Rep Tier 2, it "Is" a Test port, has communication I/O, and can be used for Kar Kit with BlueTooth/bottom micro USB port.
The "Test port" is what I am interested because if you can talk using USB architecture then you can do other things with it? example; Robotics, card readers, Web Cams and many more?, I have been reading the Registry for any clues, or Info on this? That is why I brought up this topic?
The "Test port" is used at factory for reliability testing in a burn-in chamber that they use for getting faulty units out of the mix?
This is what I have so far? if anyone else can add pertinent info it will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, those spots are where the back cover used with the car kit connect to the car kit. I never heard of them being used for anything else, but it might be possible. I think power and audio can be sent through those. It also tells the HD2 to go into the navipanel when carkit is connected to it. When looking through the registry, look around the navipanel stuff. It would be cool if we could find some more uses for that port.
More info
I was told that the center tab is data negative and the left tab is data positive and they use case for ground, now I need to figure out how the USB interface works with this? I have been searching the T-Mobile USA HTC HD2 threads for info, but have not found anything? will try the other HD2 original thread to see if anything there can help?
Maybe there is a ROM list of commands supported somewhere to help in the communication interface,
I rigged a 3 wire interface for monitoring only I don't want to put any signals in yet until I understand how it is working?and I am using a program called Boxcar to send signals out of which I can see changes but have yet to determine exact output? This is going to take some time?
Boxcar is a WM2003 program but seems to work with WM 6.5 and is good to use because of the wide variety of interfaces it can use withe the USB transceiver module, Temperature probes, pressure transducers and DAC's Digital to Analog Converters, I also have a serial module but I don't want to go that way? USB is the preferred faster interface.
But ultimately my goal is to make my own Kar Kit interface with a greater amount of control of what it does?
I had already built an Interface that works well with the Ford Sync interface on my car (I use to work for a company that built TED Air condition seats for Ford so I am familiar with the system), but that is using my Laptop and I would like to do the same using only the HD2? Baby steps.
I don't know if anyone here has the knowledge about the HD2 to help me? as it's a new device and info is minimal? I may have to wait until that info level is reached?
