Windows Live Messenger needs ActiveSync? - Networking

Can anyone please explain to me why the latest Windows Live Messenger (8.1) in XP insists on having an ActiveSync connection to my PPC? As soon as I un-dock my phone (HTC Charmer, WM5) Messenger complains "cannot initialize ActiveSync". I can't find any setting to turn this off, and nothing to help on the Microsoft help site ... its driving me nuts! Its only happening with 8.1, never happened with 8.0.
Thanks in advance

Problem with Activesync

Since I have had the Qtek S100 I experience a strange delay when I hook up to my PC with Activesync. It seems that it hangs for around 40 seconds after connection before it recovers and will look for changes. Same whether I use USB or Bluetooth.
I tried deleting the partenership and starting again and this worked once, but I had to hard reset to tidy up and now it is doing it again no matter how often I re-establish the partenership.
Any thoughts ???
sync with dell laptop running W2000P and AS 3.7
upgrade AS from 3.7 to 3.7.1 might help!
I'm using 3.7.1 and have the same problem.
synchro
Hi,just turn off your firewall before connecting,I had same problem with Sony P910i called service center and that was the solution. With the S100 had same problem, remembered the issue with sony so I turn off firewall and now works every time.Regards

Thank's all for your suggestions but so far no luck. I discovered in www.cewindows.net help files that this is a problem commonly associated with the use of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Ed. Ver 8.0. Sometime when I start my laptop I get a message saying Activesync could not initialise....also related.
Unfortunately the company I work for has it installed on all our PCs and they are not planning to update to 8.1 where the problem is fixed.
If anyone has any other suggestions in light of this new info, please let me know.
ActiveSync 3.8

For clarity...I have loaded AS 3.8 and it does notsolve the problem.
You could be having conflicts with the personal firewall installed (XP SP2 or from your antivirus product). See if allowing ActiveSync to pass through helps.
Just checked myself ... Windows Firewall exception for ActiveSync should be on.

Activesync, doesn't open at all? windows xp pro

Anyone else having problems with Activesync not even opening on windows xp pro? i have Norton IS 2005, has been configured to allow activesync and all accompanyng .exe's to run, configured all service ports for active sync to be allowed through firewall and also configured communications from this device to be allowed via firewall policy?
Any ideas anyone?
thanks
have you tried it with ALL firewalls disabled? also have the universal powered off when plugging in
I've got same problem.
Completely uninstalled ActiveSync 3.8, installed 4, connected M5000, set up the things to sync, but when it tries to ActiveSync crashes every single time.
I've followed the Microsoft advice on their website for Norton Internet Security 2005 but no difference. Even tried it with Firewall off altogether. Nothing. ActiveSync crashes everytime.
Any ideas?

did someone find a fix for that? I have the same problems.
Sorted out the problem of the crashing with mine. I'd set "media" to be synced as well as email, calendar, etc and as my media was several GB more than the capacity of my SD card, that's why it kept crashing.

If you installed any wma like windows media player 7.1, or any radio software on your ppc it's it, that's why you can not connect via activSync, you have to upgrade your OS winCE to get your syncronization back gooood luke.

MDA Vario to PC Connection Problems

HI All,
I just got the MDA Vario, and when I tried to connect it to the PC for the first time (after installing ActiveSync and being prompted to connect the device) I got the blue screen of death. Ever since, as soon as I connect I get the screen and there’s nothing I can do.
Windows error reporting says that there is a problem with the device drivers, but I don’t know how to go about fixing it or where to get updated drivers from.
Anyone with this problem or suggestions? Its very frustrating
Thanks for helping a newb.
Mike
help, anyone?
Thanks in advance.
What operating system are you using?
Is it up to date?
Activesync 4.1 doesn't seem to like firewalls - which one are you using?
I am using XP, it is up to date.
I am using the windows firewall.
The problem seems to begin as soon as active sync starts up and tries to connect.

The Problem of Kaspersky and Activesync

hi, friends, I met a problem. I installed Kaspersky in my computer, and I installed Activesync, too. Everytime that I connected my Orange SPV M3000 with my computer, and the activesync stared. But after, my computer turned "blue screen". It showed "Error". Then I have to reset my computer...
anybody has the same problem, and how do you solve it?
You should use Windows XP instead of 95/98 version.
or try to install a new version of kapersky the 5.0.522
hope it will help
i use kaspersky antivirus and activesync as well. ive never had the blue screen of death.... however i have to complete exit kaspersky before my phone will connect and sync. then when im done i have to restart kaspersky.
im gonna try the beta 6 version of kaspersky and see how it goes.
I tried for many times, my system is Win XP SP2, and kaspersky personal pro 5.0.391.
It died even I shut off the Kaspersky...
well been using kapersky 5.0.391 too and got also the blue screen
now wz the 5.0.522 personnalpro got no problem, it work like a charm
also got xp sp2 too if yr key is still valid just download the new version of kapersky and hv a try!
I had the same problem with Kaspersky. Now they have realeased a new version, especially to fix this ActviceSync Bug, but i didn't tried yet.
It's because of builtin network attacks protection module, just switch it off or install update available on Kaspersky web site.
Hi, thanks for all friends concerned about this topic!
I had solved the probelm:
it is the probelm of Kaspersky just like some friends said. I upgrated my Kasperdky to "personalpro 5.0.527" and installed the latest activesync. now they work togather perfectly!
yes using Kaspersky again since a few weeks of another AV, and working well
just up grade my kav to kis 6.0.0.299 yesterday it work like a charm wz my wizard even wz my himalaya

Vista Sync-ing with Outlook

Has any one got the above working ?
Whenever i run the setup program
C:\Windows\WindowsMobile\setup.exe
I get the message Windows Mobile Device Center Could not be installed because at leat one windows componebnt is missing
What do i do to fix this inorder to sync my phone with my pc ?
enclosed is a screen shot of device mgr
regards
mark
Strange, Mobile center is preinstalled on the Windows vista.
What version of vista are you using?
Have you tried to install activesync 4.5?
version of vista is BusinessN
I have not installed active sync 4.5 since microsoft are saying the the new product to use is Mobile device centre and active sync does not work
my phone is the Atom Exec
could try re-installing WMDC from the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
Warning: This would require using the winows genuine advantage tool.
still does not work
Still dosn't even install?
Dissapointing. I was thinking how nice it was to be free of Activesync.
Has the Artmeins been connected to windows yet? did it attempt to recognise new device and install drivers?
On a side note it's nice that Microsoft put so much effort into improving their error messages. A windows component is missing eh? er which one!!!
PS. This may sound crazy, but have you attempted to connect the Artemis with it switched off. I allways had trouble connecting windows Mobile devices with them turned on, but never had same difficulties with the device in standby, I now do this automatically, so can't comment on if it happens still in Vista. The issue was that when on, often the device was not recognised.
