Hi everyone,
I am planning to use a new 2G SD card to replace 1G SD on my cingular 8125. Used winhex make a disk clone to 2G SD but don't reallize the disk clone is a kind of sectors to sectors copy so finally only a half size shows on my 2G SD . how can i find out the rest of storage?
Or may i need try some other program?
Appreciated any feedback in advance.

WHy not use wm5torage so that your SD card looks like a thumb drive and just back it up (copy) to your PC. Then put in the new card and restore it back to it? Maybe I'm missing the purpose of this tool, but I'd think that would work (and is what I've thought about doing when I get a larger SD card).

thanks Pal, i would like take a try. will let you know the result.

I just "explore my phone" in active sync, open the SD card and drag and drop things around...works fine, am I missing something? No extra program required...

Thanks, I did . Simpely use WM5torage copy all files to new 2G mini sd although some of file can't open it but most of files work fine.
Appreciaed !

yes, i tried this before in active sync too but crash sudenly while copying at 70% around 400mb of 600mb. so i think it may not a best solutions. just use WM5torage which can convert your phone SD card as a common USB device. more easy and stable .

Cool, glad that worked! I've had problems with active sync in the past when moving very much data, so figured that wouldn't be the best way to do something like this. Making the SD card look like a thumbdrive with WM5torage seemed like a viable solution and it sounds like it was for you

SD Card corruption problem. any solution to this:

Upgrading my ROM to the latest build has greatly improved the issue with SD card corruption but i am still unable to copy large files (100mb and above) from my computer, it starts copying and halfway through gives an error message that there is insufficient space on the card even though there's more than 600mb available before copying. I then find that i have either lost 30-40mb on the card jus disappearing and sometimes it just corrupts the card and i lose all the information on it
is there a solution for this? is there such a utility that would copy large files without corrupting the card? assuming it is activesync that is causing this
please advise
many thanks in advance
i guess you should buy yourself a USB2.0 card reader for ~10 euros and copy whatever you want to card........
afraid to say that is the exact same experience i've had.
Prolem, it seems is with active sync, I can copy hundreds of files but no file greater than about 100Mb onto my 1Gig card.
Had to resort to a card reader, bit of pain in the arse as now i've got another device fighting for desk space, but the benefits are worth it, MUCH faster and you can copy pretty much anything.
my storage card sometimes disappears from the file explorer. any solution to that?
The only problem I've had with my Sandisk 1GB Ultra II is that when I take the card out of the device and put it into as card reader, all of the directory names are scrambled random characters, and I can't write to or read from the card. I had the same problem with a 256Mb trandflash card.
You can use the program "pocket mechanic". with this you can scan, repair, format and defrag your SD/MMC.
Good luck,
Giovanni
Try Softick cardexport, then you can use you're magician as an usb-drive. It writes faster than act.sync and probably without size issues and it will save you another device as well
Good luck

SD memory Card - loss of memory size

I have a 512 SD memory card, which when initially placed into my MDA compact was working fine. I have transferred files via activesync and the MDA was reading it at 512mb.
However, a couple of weeks ago. I had a message on the MDA asking if I would like to format the card for reading by this device. Initially I said no, however, it kept on coming up persistently until I clicked yes.
The format was done and I am now showing a size on my SD card of 139mb.
I have seen some of the previous posts and have bought a SD reader/writer, whilst this works perfectly, my card is still only 139mb. I have a feeling that the movie I transferred is taking up the rest of the memory, but not showing anywhere for me to remove it.
Does anyone have any suggestions, other than gentle pursasion with a hammer, to return the card to its proper size. Free would be best of course.
Thanks
In windows (your desktop computer) enable the option "view-hidden files"... perhaps you will find a lot of hidden files on your sd.
Otherwise, format the sd.
Sven,
Thanks for your response, tried hidden files, no luck. Also formatted the sd card and it still only reads 139mb. Shall I hit it with a hammer?
Cheers
Mark
adz1478,
Unzip the attachment onto your computer...
With your SD card in a card reader, format the card.
You should hopefully retreive full capacity- needless to say everything saved on the card will be gone.
worked perfectly, you just saved me £20 on a new card. Cheers

Yep- no probs.
When you try to format the card from Windows- it does not always comply with the SD 1.1 specs. This is what the formatter program does.
Same problem - but!
When I tried the formatter program it thinks the card is write protected even though on the outside it is not! So i can't format it to the correct side.
Any ideas please?

Copy SD Card

I use a 256mb sd card in my phone but yesterday i purchased a 1 gb sd card. How can i get all of my information from one card to the other so i can use the 1gb card? I have tried doing it through my computer because it has an SD slot but I get some type of error that prevents me from doing so. Is there some program that i can use or what to do this???
Thanks in advance
We're only going to be able to help you if you're more specific than "some kind of error"

I have to agree with Izz. but you might try leaving the card in the phone and using the "explore my phone" option in ActiveSync to copy the info you want to your computer. Stick the new card in your phone and move the info back.

Put WM5torage on your phone and the SD card will then look like a thumbdrive to your computer. You can then copy stuff around without activesync getting involved (which seems to have issues with large amounts of data transfer).

G1 can't copy large file from computer to G1's SD card via USB

hi
My G1 can't copy large file from computer to G1's SD card via USB. Everytime i tried to copy a large file to SD card via, the G1 will turn off the USB storage. Would you like to let me know how to fix it? Thank you very much.
Define large.
And secondly, what happens if you try to even access the files on your SD through windows? Do you get the same behavior?
Filesystem is formatted fat16 OR bad USB wire OR you use windoze.
I am having a similar problem. I have a Rogers G1 and bought a 16GB Lexar card from Walmart for $55 CAD(seemed like too good a deal and it was). Took it back after trying to reseat the card several times and the issue still persisting. The 2nd card is still having the same problem.
I first noticed it when trying to copy my 8 gb MP3 collection... after about 5-10 mins of transfering the SD card becomes unmounted.
I suspect that it will work fine if I mount the card in an adapter and put it in my laptop, but will confirm.
Might try to fatten up the micro sd card a bit where the connectors are, and see if it makes better contact with the phone...if transfers work from the laptop.

'Large' means the file size is more than 100MB. I can copy the large file to SD via USB adapter successfully. And G1 itself can access large file successfully. Now i have not test it in Linux environment.
thl16888, What kind of memory are you using? Who did you get your phone through? Little shy with your details..
I am able to copy files from widows directly to the card as well...just not so well on the phone.

My SD card is Scandisk 4G. I can copy large files into sd card via USB reader. it is not so well via G1's USB.
There is a 4 gig file size limit on Fat32 format. So anything larger will not work.
I have the same problem in Windows. However in Linux it works perfectly so I know the phone cable and SD card are fine. That only leaves one problem, Windows! I think the Windows USB driver is not very stable.
My g1 had the same problem..so what I did was mounted it in terminal..the phone can't scan it so it can't close it...so heres the url enter this in the terminal emulator or console click here
i have a similar problem to, help plx
I have similar problem to, but itz with any file, until the smallest note 1kb.
I try to copy a file, like a music, ok, its there, but after when I remove safely the usb, and unmount on the g1, I look for the file and its not there. I tested with every type off archives, and with a 200mb file, the sd don't keep the file. Help plx , maybe its a config wrong.
Ahh, and I can't download files on g1 by browser, it says that I haven't space, but I have 3GB on sd and 20mb on internal.
Before I haven't this 2 problems. Someone know what are the problem?
Sorry by the bad english, I'm portuguese =P
I have the same problem, i can't copy big files to the G1. When i put the sdcard in a card reader, windows detects nothing.
Download MountUSB App from the Market on your G1, and try again....that worked for me.
I'm having similar problem just copying a 646KB file for Cookie Monster's app. It constantly disconnects from my pc.

I actually just fixed my sd cards today. I ultimately had to go to a store that had a nokia E71 and reformat the cards with the built in symbian OS. No pc or any other device would recognize the cards before I reformatted with the nokia. I think there is also a way by reflashing WP7 with the card inside, then make sure not to do any updates. You then pull the sd card and reformat in a PC.
Hope this helps
do you think that an e65 will work the same? probably my dad has still got his old one
thanks a lot!

Not sure man, I know that you have to do it through the file explorer that's built in, otherwise it will try and ask you for a password before formatting. As long as it's running the latest symbian you should be fine

Theres a list on this thread for confirmed devices that format wp7 corrupt sd card check it out.
If is doesnt, whilst you have wp7 installed send the storage unlock.cab to phone then send 1gb partition cab reset the phone from about..check if partition took effect first..press storage unlock on homepage tile .turn phone off your pc should recognise the sd card in sd card adapter for example it should read 7gb instead of 8gb use easeus partition tool to fully reformat..good luck
