Cingular's 8525 Unlocked / Using T-Mobile's MMS. Problem!!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

HI,
I got a 8525 from Cingular and got it unlocked using the instructions on this forum ( SWEET ). Now, I really wanted to Flash it and get rid of the Cingular stuff! But is not something that I'm ready to do ( after reading the wiki on HERMES and all I don;t feel comfortable enough to do it yet :-( ). Anyway I decided to configure my Cingular 8525 to work with T-Mobile, I have everything working emails, exchange server and pocket IE also added a few apps like opera and a couple of IM clients and everything is working!! But I can for the life of me configure the MMS on it!!! I added the new MMS server and I does not work I know the setting are right because it connects to the internet when is triying to send the MMS but it never sends it!!!
Does anybody knows why or how to fix it.
Thanks

T-Mobile US settings for EZ WAP 2.5

OK, I'm a pretty technical guy and I'm still stumped. I've tried entering the T-Mobile provided info into EZ WAP but am obviously not mapping their connection settings info to the right fields in EZ WAP. AFter a couple of hours of tinkering and several searches here I'm caving in and asking for help.
Can somone post the "play by play" EZ WAP setup for T-Mo US?

what info did they give you?... When i calld, they gave me the run-around...plus I tried to ask them why I can't connect threw "internet2.voicetream.com"... & they sound like they gettin mad @ me, an start askin why I need to know all this...
...TMO needs an attitude adjustment
Unfortunately, I agree that the carrier's data specialists are often little or no help. Every question you ask, it turns out that they either:
a. Don't know
b. Pretend to know and give you the wrong answer
c. Assume you're with the Taliban and are trying to break in to their WAP system to threaten civilization
I got the T-Mo official settings at:
http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz/configother.asp
and they are echoed at:
http://www.theody.com/t-mobile.html
Again, the info on these pages doesn't map directly into the connection settings on the PPC or to the settings in EZ WAP. I tries a few intuitive mappings and failed.

Qman, you indeed are the eggman, you are the walrus, you are the eggman, koo-koo-kachoo. (Is that the xda-developers accepted spelling of koo-koo-kachoo?) :^)
I was pulling my hair out on this and have never found any of these settings you spelled out here or on any T-Mo site. It took a few minutes for you to type all that in and I appreciate it.
I was live on T-Zones about 5 minutes after I saw your reply, working perfectly.
Interesting observation, maybe it's an error on my part... I tried your settings in EZ WAP, but connecting through my usual internet2.xxx and the T-Zones stuff wouldn't come up. Other wap sites in EZ WAP would, like yahoo, but not T-Zones. I created a connection called WAP (like you used in your example) and made the APN wap.xxx and it works fine, AND nPOP pulled my mail through it to.
So I'm curious if these statements are true:
1. You can pull WAP and http/smtp through internet2.voicestream.com, but not necessarily T-Mobile's proprietary T-Zones WAP.
2. You can pull WAP, http/smtp, and T-Zones through wap.voicestream.com
If these are true, then I assume that wap.xxx and internet2.xxx are functionaly the same except that wap.xxx gateway has the t-zones subscriber authentication built into it, rather than on the content server.
Since my GPRS connection is always on, I don't want to have to switch connections between wap and nPOP/web sessions, would prefer to stay with one.
@Mad Max
I'm pretty sure your assumption abut that wap.xxx and internet2.xxx functionally are correct and thats why the wap.voicestream AP is my all around AP of choice (its my main T-Mobile AP).
FYI before upgrading to WM2003 the wap AP was also the only AP that would work with Pocket Hotmail 2.0, which now doen't work at all under WM2003.
Anyhow have fun!
anyone got the ATTWS Settings for this?
MMS and Tmobile US with XDA II
I finally received my XDA II this afternoon.. I have spent most of my afternoon trying to fix this MMS thing. I have used the base software, added EZWap 2.5... Tried every configuration.. Call the useless bozos on Tmobile but couldnt get this darn MMS thing to work...
Can someone please answer my 2 questions
1) What settings do you need with TMO?
2) What plans do you need with TMO?
19.99 All internet + 2.99 + 4.99 etc
Thanks
my MMS works fine, on 2002.
and though i have the internet from tmobile ($19)
goin about it via the wap.voicestream.com works just as good
for browsing net, and using tzones, and mms ofcourse.
the only drawback i hear, is you cant use secure servers on wap.
although i've checked my INBOX several times via wap, and it worked just fine for me.
check your settings from Qman again.
you maybe one digit off.
good luck.
ps: after you set it, if you want to test the mms, give me a buzz.
Hmm...
It is interesting, in my case the Pocket Internet Explorer works.. MMS doesnt and the EZWAP doesnt work...
It is bizzare... I have checked and rechecked each setup as provided by QMAN twice.. Had another person verify it for me...

If you're sure that the settings are OK, my next suspect would be an account setting issue. Unfortunately, getting help from the carriers in debugging that could be pretty tough.
more
more on the Xda ii. I am posting this message from the XDA. I still cannot send or receive MMS. I had a friend of mine send me a MMS and he got a error message that my phone cannot receive MMS and that a text message would be sent.
I received a notification about the MMS but couldn't retrieve it.
any suggestions
Finally got it working
Finally got it working... There was a MMS Server setting on the network that was missing and took me 18 calls and 95 minutes on the phone with TMobile to get it right.
I can now receive and send MMS to myself.. Looks like the MMS in TMO US is limited to TMO US customers only. I can only send MMS to other TMO US customers.

What was the MMS server name? I'm in Austin, TX, just got a iMate XDA II and can't get my MMS working either.
Do you have to have a plan for MMS? I have the $20 internet already.
What parameters settings do you need in MMS Composer?
What parameter setting do you need in My ISP connection?
Thanks so much,
Craig

I have the unlimited MMS for 4.99 you will need that to send MMS. My MMS settings are all the same. I also have the unlimited WAP for 2.99 and I use the wap.voicestream.net for MMS...
MMS
I talked with T-Mobile. Since I already had the internet access service, T-Zones is already enabled. They said all I need for MMS is T-Zones. I set the right server, ip, etc. I could never receive a MMS picture message to myself. All that came through was the text portion witha download link to tap. Tapping it just brought another text header message. TMO was no help either. Afterwards, ALL my alerts (weather, sticks) started coming to my MMS but I couldn't read anything. I finally had to call TMO to have them remove my phone # off the wap server for t-zones to stop MMS and resume SMS messaging.
Any thoughts on this chain of events?
mms config telfort
got an xda1 with a custom rom, offcourse is there no autoconfig, i can't find the settings for mms in holland (telfort)
you need to install EzWAP 2.5 or its equivilant.
that will add MMS to xda1
good luck.

XDA II SIM unlocked: how to use GPRS to connect to the Net..

Hi,
I just unlocked my XDA II and I'm using a Vodafone SIM in it. How do I utilize GPRS, WAP and Modem connectivity with this SIM? Is it possible to get rid of all the O2 crap installed on it, i.e. "clean" it up properly?
A new skin would be cool!
Cheers,

Thomas
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=11
you are by no means the first who ask this question
And what's the answer? Is it possible at all?
--
Thomas
yes it possible the xda is not limited to o2 in anyway
you just have to set it up
to do this you need to know the connection point your provider use for mms, grps and wap (if you also want that)
there are many posts which explane how you set it up in the network forum
but if you cant find any i could explane it step by step i suppose
i dont know much about o2's settings but if it's today stuff you can turn it off under today in settings
otherwise you can always make your own rom at www.yorth.net and get a more pure non o2 custom rom
you can get tons of skins as in today skins on many sites
and at yorth.net you can also get phone skins or have explaned how to make them yourself
Works fine now, thanks. Vodafone's acces point is named 'internet' (which was easy to read off the SIM), and the user/passwd is web/web (had to call them up to get that). So GPRS works fine. Needs some more info to set a Modem connection, but it shouldn't be hard.
The reason for my original posting, was that I was lead to believe that O2 had "locked" the device, which is not the case at all.
Anyway, thanks for info. Btw, the link you mention does not work...
Cheers,

my bad

spelling issue
Ttm, I'm confused. I am in the same situation as you (xda II with vodafone sim), yet i cannot connect GPRS using your settings. The settings I connect with are APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk with the same user/password as you. This connects fine yet i cannot send or receive emails.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something in the setup? what do you reckon? :?:
cheers, coj
well one thing is to be able send mails and another is to get mail working
can you get IE working ?
Yes, IE is working fine and dandy
then i doubt it's a grps issue
if you put in all the mail settings like
pop3 and smpt if you used those protocols
and it still dont work with your type of mail protocol
then i would contact the phone company to see if they rout
your type of mails

How to set up GPRS/MMS on Virgin Network

For all of you who have had difficulty setting up GPRS and MMS for the Virgin network then the comprehensive instructions in the attached document should put you on the right track.
MMS Virgin
Thanks for your help. Its now all working
It was the bit in MMS Composer causing the problem
it was trying to use the wrong connection
Now works Great
Thanks Once Again
Best Regards
Cingular
I read the PDF on setting up with Virgin.
Any chance of getting a document on setting up with Cingular? I have a XDA IIs activated with Cingular and need help getting GPRS and MMS to work.
Cingular
Sorry but I don't think that I can help as I have no details for your network. More importantly, as I'm not a Cingular customer, I wouldn't be able to test that I was setting up and documenting the connections correctly. I was only able to produce this document because I'm on the Virgin network and it took a fair bit of trial and error to get the connections right.
Thanks a million
Unbelievably helpful - thanks! I too have been playing with the settings provided by Virgin, but the GPRS/MMS combination was proving tricky! Would you perhaps be willing to give this to Virgin for others to get easier access to (if they're interested) - they tried to help but in the end said 'we don't support your phone so you're on your own'...? Thanks again for a BRILLIANT help file. Keith.
Glad you found it useful.
I've sent a copy of the document to Virgin and they said they'd pass it on to the relevant department so that they can check it for correctness! It remains to be seen whether they'll actually use it officially or not.
Bump!
just bumping this as it's a really useful document!
does anyone know how we can create a CAB file from this?
Thanks
Just bought myself a "touch" and had a hell load of trouble getting gprs to work for Virgin. This actually got me up and running, thanks.
Thanks for the link just set up all my connections. It seems Virgin hasn;t taken up your offer of letting peeps know about your instructions.
Superb!
Virgin had no clue at all
I followed this, and bang - connected
1 note: If you get "could not connect for an unknown reason" just reset your phone
Thx for this
Just wondering if Virgin Network lets HTC Home Weather update over GPRS?
With O2 at moment, they don't! Home phone through Virgin so it could be cheaper.
Thanks
I have just set up my MDA Vario following your easy to use instructions, and I can now connect to the internet on Virgin (I have moved from T-Mobile). However, I cannot send an MMS message even though I have double checked the settings. Can you tell me if there is anything else that may need to be done, or have others had any similar problems?
great.....for the first time i could send/receive MMS

Clueless!!!
I have done all of this and keep getting the message gateway timeout
A big thanks for this post, it saved me a lot of grief, as mentioned earlier Virgin were worse than useless.
Newbie question
Thanks so much sbgorner - I'll show my ignorance here ! I have been able (when a signal is available) to connect via wifi which is, generally free. I have now, thanks to you, managed to set up a gprs connection (which costs via virgin) - I want to be sure that I ONLY use the gprs when i really have to - I've had a pretty good look but am not sure how I can tell which connection settings I'm using and how I can make sure the gprs is turned off when I don't want it. Thanks for your help. regards Roger
Hi me again - Happy new Year everybody. Another little problem - I can get on internet with these settings and RECEIVE emails but not SEND emails or MMS. Any suggestions much appreciated. Roger
Thank you
Thank you very much for the advice. Excellent website I will donate

Email
Hi, first off, thanks for the PDF. Brilliant, both MMS & GPRS working now. Something Virgin were not very helpful about.
I am trying to set up my email which is an NTL account but keep getting a message saying that it can't connect.
Any ideas if it is possible to set up email with Virgin?
Thanks.

T Mobile uk MMS server lost

My hermes has stopped sending/recieveing mms messages since i got back from the UAE.
Ive tried to input the settings from the website but strangly the server isnt being listed in the servers tab (tools, options, mms, servers) but the set as default key does change from grayed out once ive added the details.
Anyone got any idea whats happening here and how i might fix it?
Cheers
(BTW im running WM5)
I have a tmobile cab file which will enter ALL the tmobile settings for you.
I use it for after a HR on roms which arn't tmobile specific.
the only thing that it does a little wierd is it tries to set the MMS outgoing service to use the WAP connection rather than the GPRS connection.
this is an easy thing to put back right thought.
I can send it to you if you think it might resolve your problems.
regards
Tony.
PM me if you can't find it.
Thanks for the offer but i took the opportunity to upgrade to WM6 with the offical tmob rom.
Cheers any way

Im not receiving mms messages with my unlocked t-mobile sim?

Help!
I have the 8125 so the phone is set to receive all of it's mms messages through cingular. Now that I'm using a un-locked t-mobile sim I still can not get my mms messages.
Does anyone know how to make this work?
Under "MMS Configuration" for the servers, there is a "new" option. When I open that, it asks for the following:
Server name______________
Gateway:________________
Port number:_____________ the number in the port box is 9201
Server address:_______________
Connect via: it gives the options of media net, my work network, my isp, work, sicure WAP Network, the WAP network, the internet.
Am I looking to go the right route and can anyone help?
Thanks,
Loretta
try one of these cabs.. even if you don't have a data plan these should setup your MMS..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2237367&postcount=1
Thank you...but I cant find what you said to go to...
How do I get to that place you suggested I look? I tried to copy-paste it into the browser and it came up not found?
thanks,
loretta
You didn't say who you have service with. Those cabs are for tmobile just CLICK (that's why it's blue) the link (you can't copy and paste it because the URL displayed is truncated). If you have cingular then I can't help you
These CABs are awesome! Make sure to use the rigt one though. I find that I need to use the WAP one (his 5.99 plan) to get it to work in the SE US.
Thanks a bunch!
What do your CABs do differently than just setting up the connection and the MMS server though? Up until I stumbled across these CABs, I almost had the settings memorized.
