Thought I'd post this FYI.
A couple of weeks ago my SD card (Sandisk Ultra II 2GB) disappeared. Just vanished from the device - no prompts to format - just like it wasn't there.
Just looked at it in a card reader and it's OK but these directories have been corrupted (presumably bu Trinity):
raster
resource
system
I don't know what created these directories or whether they relate to an app but the have been corrupted. The raster directory is showing a size of 274GB under windows for example.
Reformatted card under windows & all is well again.

i also have a 2gb mini sd for said device (the spvm700 on orange uk) and apparently after a call to orange the device can only support a maximum of 1gb memory card!
That sucks - damned if I'm going out to buy another mini SD card to add to a collection that starts with Compact Flash and runs through everything in between to Micro SD (including a short and tarnished flurtation with Memory Stick). I mean what CAN you do with a 32MB Smart Media card these days (what could you ever?).
Going to stick with this 2GB & if it comes down to it reformat and copy back the contents again. Isn't too painful but wish the 1GB limit was mentioned on the tin (along with the self destructing paint job for that matter).
Still a great device & at least there is no fluff under the screen
Had the same problem my 2 GB transcend card shows a directory garbage - format it in the cardreader and after that it shows only 1 GB, got 2 GB back with the panasonic formatter, all pc tools and ppc format tools stuck
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html
I dont think there is a 1GIG limit.
I have a 2GIG card and it works fine. The only problem I do have is when I take out the card to directly transfer files to my main computer.
When I re-insert the card into my phone it disappears. The only thing that seems to work is to reset the phone.
I now never touch my SD card, if I ever wish to transfer stuff then I'll always use the usb sync cable (or could use bluetooth but this is much slower).

Hi,
I have a problem in recognizing my Transcend 2 GB SD-Card.
During operation the MDA Pro "looses" my storage card. I do not need to move the MDA. It also happens when it is on the table.
When I eject the card and put it in again it is recognized again.
Do you have a suggestion what this can be?
Mike
****, I just ordered the same card two days ago. Should arrive today or tomorrow. I let you know what happens.
Unless your card is faulty, try reformatting the card (I know you don't usually have to do this staight out of the box). I have had this problem before, but on the i-mate jam and it would read the card in my PC, but not my LapTop, which has a dedicated SD slot. Go figure. Tried formatting to FAT and FAT32, but I think it doesn't make too much of a difference. For me it came down to the type of SD card being used!
My 1GB Scandisk card works flawlessly and quickly wherever I put it, but my 2GB Scandisk SD Ultra II only works in my PC and transfer rate seems noticeably slower. :?
I already formatted the SD-Card. I also tried Low Level Format with
Pocket Mechanic.
I haven´t found failures with a r/w test. On the PC there are no problems.

Having 2GB MMC works fine with me... Thank God.. was worried
I have the same problem with the Transcend 2GB card. When syncing Avantgo to the card I get a "write teimeout" error. The card is still there when I look at it with the explorer.
2GB SD card
I have no problems with a 2GB Sandisk SD card.
I bought an Integral 2GB High Speed SD card. Initially, my JASJAR refused to recognise the card as anything more than 128 MB. I tried formatting it with Pocket Mechanic (Low level and normal format) - still 128MB. My notebook (with a built-in SD card reader) also saw it a 128 MB. My EPSON card reader did not recognise it at all.
After finding a post on a forum through Google, I found out that the iMate JAM apparently creates a new partition on the 2GB card, and that it was a known problem (for the JAM).
Using Partition Magic, we saw that it in fact created three partitions (128 MB, 1GB and the remainder, but we could not format or use the other).
My husband got the brilliant idea to put the card in my Nikon CoolPix, which told us that the card was not formatted. He told the camera to format it, which worked -- I can now use the card as 2GB in both my JASJAR and my laptop.
I hope this helps somebody ...

Which type?
THX!
Got no probs on my scandisc ultraII card on jasjar either, but my laptop won't recognise it! :?
Good thing I have a PC too!
No problems with my UltraII card either...
I always format my cards with my PC or Laptop before using them, and it's always been fine in PPC, PC, and Laptop.
My MDA has stoped seeing my memory card. I have a 2gb Moby Memory card. Is there a seting to turn it on. My laptop has no problem with the card.
Did you try to reformat it on your laptop? format it with the FAT file system and get yourself a trial copy of pocket mechanic, you can get it from handango, and reformat it with the tools in that program. I experienced the same thing with my sd card, and after formating it the first time on my pc it still wouldn't recognize it, I then formatted it with FAT filesystem instead of FAT32 and my MDA recognized it, hope this fixes your predicament also.
Try formatting it with a different unit. I used my digital camera to format the miniSD, ofcourse I used an adapter to make it SD. I also lost my miniSD during the first two days I got it. I have a Patriot 1gb miniSD, comes with an adapter for SD.

I had the same Problem.
This is a known bug. Paste a sticker to make it thicker on the sd-card.
When I formated using my camera, it reduced the memory gown to 1gb. That still did not work until i used a bit of selotape to make the card thicker did it work. Thank for all your help.
Hi All,
I have had numerous problems with my 2GB card such as files and directories disappearing; files showing up on Windows when I plug my SD card in, but not on the PPC.
Anyone know the cause of these issues? Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I don't think it's the new high speed format card either. It's a corsair brand.
Thanks

I have the same problem. its a known issue in the trinity. no solution yet.
waiting for a rom to fix that..
I have no problems with files and directories disappearing and I'm using sandisk 2GB mini sd. It seems like sandisk 2gb doesnt have any problems in TomTom either.
Also using a 2GB Sandisk and no problems whatsoever with any rom version.
No problem with my Sandisk 2G MiniSD too!
Sometimes my phone do not detect the card when it was inserted, but no problem when I insert again. It won't "mssing" or lost data as long as it was regonized.
I think it may related to the brand.
my 2gb minisd corsair card became unreadable yesterday and my phone asked to format it. ( after the phone format i only have 1Gb free space. does anyone knows how to format this card with my phone as a 2gb card, because it seems that my phone format it as a 1gb card?
My 2GB sandisk is working OK too. I think make sure the mini sd card is not a high speed one. Mine is x66

Which Brand do you have?
I have a Kingston 2GB card, and it works great, except Media Player seems to screw things up. There are about 1GB of songs on it, and when Media Player creates the library, it creates a hidden folder on the card called MSMETADATA. Inside the folder it creates some kind of MediaLibrary file, which appears to get corrupted. When it does, trying to play anything from the storage card's library results in a media player error. But deleting that folder and running an Update Library works fine. Selecting a song to play directly also works.
The first time this happened, I couldn't figure out what was going on, and a hard reset didn't fix it. Sticking the card into my PC's media card reader showed me the hidden folder, since I didn't have "Show All Files" turned on on the device. It's happened a couple of times since then. But now that I know what's going on, it's a quick fix. I think removing the card might be what messes it up.

Well, my Sandisk Ultra 2GB was fine until sometime in last couple of weeks.
Now it does not appear at all desipte multiple reinsertions. Need to but another adaptor before I can test in reader. But nothing changed on Trinity - now new apps installed, card never removed from slot - just vanished (not unrecognised - no prompts to format it - it just isn't there).
Any thoughts?
running Dopod ROM on HTC BTW

Hmmm, very strange, I'm sure you tried soft reset. If it works in card reader, I guess you can copy everyting off of it and reformat it, maybe that will help. All this card disappearing stuff with the Trinity is very strange, it never happended with my 4gb SD in my Prophet in over a year. Mind you, I haven't had any problems with my current 4gb mini SD either but it hasn't been that long yet.
Good luck.

OEM card from MobyMemory.com
standard sandisk 2gb seem very reliable, maybe its the high speed ones that cause problems, i ordered 2gb ultra2 & had major problems, ie not detecting & when did it wanted to format then giving me only 968mb,
my 2gb (standard) sandisk works flawlessly
I have previously had problems with the MD drive which I've learned to live with. However now I have SD problems.
I installed WMStorage to access my SD and MD from my PC. When I deactivated it, my SD card was invisible on my Ameo. i did a soft-reset and now the 2GB SD card is only recognised as 1GB. I have tried reformatting in the Ameo and on the PC. Still it stays at 1GB.
My card is a Corsair 2GB card.
Ideas?????
I also had a corrupt mini sd card... I have a sandisk 2gb mini sd and I have copied TomTom from the original (supplied) minisd onto the 2gb card and have added a few programs and films. I was happily using TomTom in the car when it stopped working...I removed the card and reinserted (which I had done on a previous occasion and it restarted TomTom ok) This time no luck...When I got home I tried to get all my information off the card using the card reader on my laptop.... It showed the correct amount of data on the card but showed only a few TomTom files nothing else....I couldn't copy anything from the card onto the pc.... I tried to format the card in the laptop but it wouldn't format..... I put the card back into the Ameo and did a low level format using pocket mechanic ok..... Then I recopied (using the laptop) all the TomTom files again and a few programs but not any films.... So far all is good...I suspect that I had left too little space on the card, which is why it locked up!! I may be wrong here...all input welcomed
Tim
I tried low level formatting - it didn't work. Decided in the end to take the card back to the shop (as fortuntaley i didn;t byuy this one from ebay). will see if it happens again. Unlikely to be a dodgy chip, though???
Just received a 32Gb sd card and copied over all my files and cabs etc.
But when trying to reinstall the .cabs to my storage card and keep getting this message "installation of .cab was unsuccessful" ?????
has anyone got any ideas? I have had to go back to my sd card?
didn't think there was any decent 32gig cards available yet, did you format the card in your phone first?
The correct procedure (which I did only last evening with my new Sandisk 32GB mSD, it will take approx. 2hrs. depending on capacity and content of old mSD - mine had full 15,5GB):
1. Put back old SD-card
2. Switch HD 2 into flight mode (!!!!)
3. Connect to PC in HARDDISK Mode (not ActiveSync)
4. Open mSD card on PC and make ALL files accessible (also system-files etc.)
5. Copy entire content of old mSD to a fgolder on the PC
6. Disconnect HD2 from PC
7. Switch HD2 off and place new 32GB mSD into HD2
8. Switch HD2 ON
9. Check if mSD is recognized and shows right capacity (29-31 GB depending)
(EDIT: 10. Format mSD with format-prog in Settings-menu. HD2 STILL IN FLIGHT MODE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (EDIT!!!: MAYBE BY FORMATTING YOU COULD GOOF THE CARD, SO BEST IS TO USE IT AS IT IS RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX !!!! AND TRY TO FORMAT IT ONLY IN CASE IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY OUT OF THE BOX !!!!!!!!!)
11. Connect HD2 again in Harddisk-Mode to PC
12. Copy all files from backup-folder of PC to the new mSD
13. Disconnect HD2 from PC
14. Switch HD2 OFF
15. Restart and enjoy Your new richdom of mem-space
DO NOT ACTIVATE ANY RADIO (GSM, 3G, HSDPA, WIFI DURING ENTIRE PROCEDURE !!!!!!! It might brick Your new expensive mSD-card cause WM once in while writes to it creating funny disorders on the new card.)
After restarting with new mSD there might be a "services.exe"-error. Switch off again and switch on again. No error-message any more.
I strongly recommend to invest 24 bucks for pocket mechanic or SKTools (I prefer PM but have both running). It helps You to optimize Your entire HD2 and evaporate all crap accumulated when playing around with install and del of mods and apps. Makes WM pretty stable and snappy
troed thank you, but i am still having problems????
i have a games folder with cabs in and when i copy them over they dont even show and a few other folders have become like encryted??? cant open them or delete them ??? maybe the card is faulty????
Most problems with uSD cards seem to be caused by low capacity fakes being sold as high capacity branded cards.
I'd suggest checking it with h2testw - or alternatively if your new 32GB uSD card isn't a sandisk card bought from a reputable retailer for a lot of money, you don't need to test it to know that it's fake.

Well, andyfoster could be right .....
I always buy my SD and mSD cards (only Sandisk) either at amazon, expansys or mobilefun and never ever had a single problem with them (e.g. I also run 32GB SD and MemStick in my Vaio).
Once I bought a Pretec 128GB SSD Express Card for the Vaio, filled it with read only files ...... worked ........... but when I wanted to check the content the SSD was dead/bricked.
What else could it be theoretically ?
Once I bought a Kingston DataTraveler-USB-Stick 64 GB and wanted to fill it with vid-files. In copy process it got stuck so I formatted it and now I have only 32GB available.
Why ?
As delivered the 64GBstick was formatted FAT 32, allowing only files less than 4GB saved onto it. This my fault then. One vid-files was 6 GB and gave an error. But when I destroyed the original format from Kingston with my formatting I lost half of the capacity with no workaround left.
What do I wann say with this ?
I don´t know if THAT could be the case, but MAYBE these high cap-SDs do have a special "Factory-format" that should not be changed ! When I received my 32GB mSD IT WORKED PERFECT OUT OF THE BOX ! I did no format. But, honestly, since it is a lill bit expensive I don´t wanna experiment with formatting it now.
But MAYBE it is a fake-card ..................
Yes, the first thing to know is how much you paid for the card and what brand it is... we've seen "ORIGINAL KINGSTON 32GB MICROSD CARD NO FAKE!!!1!ONE" on ebay, when Kingston never manufactured a single 32GB card yet...
This is a sandisk by the way, (well it says sandisk on it ) and its funny you mentioned the format? it is formated wth the name fat32 hhmmmm and i am trying to put 13gb of stuff on it???, I have reformatted it again last night it took hours?? I might try again and if not i will just have to have a replacement?
after trying again, i notice this error regarding certain file names are to long??? and also if i create a folder and name it vids or movies it automaticly puts folders in side which cannot be opened or deleted? and the folders name will be ".?:-~~{"
its got to be the card right?
I have returned the card and asked for a replacement?

what follows is unrelated to the main topic in this thread...
about the bold part in your post above...i thought i should tell you that there IS a workaround!
fact is that FAT32 is a file system in which a single file cannot be larger than 4GB. you should have gotten an error from explorer BEFORE even a single byte of the 6GB file was written.
more importantly, you should know that FAT32 fully supports very large partitions like 100GB, etc (at the cost of slower performance and/or wastage due to large cluster size at that capacity). what most people conclude is that it SEEMS like you can only create up to 32GB FAT32 partitions "at home" while larger sized FAT32 partitions can only be "created in a factory format". this misconception is entirely because the disk management in windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 enforce this limit when formatting!
google it and you will see that it is just an arbitrary limit by microsoft and these same operating systems have NO PROBLEMS reading/writing FAT32 partitions greater than 32GB. once again, it is JUST an arbitrary limitation of the default formatting routines shipped with windows. there is a great little tool (i forget the name of the program but its executable is called "guiformat.exe") that will allow you to format FAT32 greater than 32GB.
all of the above got me thinking about something though...it seems that manufacturers have chosen FAT32 as the de facto standard for most mobile devices with removable card storage (like smartphones, digital cameras, mp3 players, etc), likely because of FAT32's lack of complexities like security and the standard's relative "openness" compared to that of NTFS, for example. makes me wonder about the nice surprise people will start to have once greater than 32GB cards become available and when people will attempt to format them with windows, expecting everything to go smoothly...but oh the horror when windows won't let them format greater than 32GB. good times ahead!
