Hi all,
My XDA Mini S G4 is now running the most up to date WM5 ROM from O2's web site.
I want to be able to read sms messages in hebrew so I installed Ectaco's hebrew language support in trial mode (allows you to read but not to write, which is just what I need). the thing is messages are displayed left-to-right whereas Hebrew is read right-to-left ( i.e. the message shows "csid" instead of "disc", only in hebrew).
is there a way to fix it?
sorry for the late response. I think you'll have to purchase either Eyeron or PDAC hebrew support. Both are Israeli companies and offer full support.

It can also display Chinese character in Today plugin, etc etc.. Only thing is, don't have too many false hope on these thing. Like me, I was hoping that it could sync my Contact that's in Chinese character with my Outlook that's in English. All those will becomes "??" mark, damn!!

ActiveSync does not seem to use Unicode as its means of communication. Instead, it uses the default encoding as per Windows' setting. If you have your setting set to English (United States), but have Chinese on your PPC, then it's not going to work.
It is possible to change this setting, but be aware of the consequences before doing so...
1) Open the "Regional & Language Options" dialog: Start->Settings->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options
2) Select the Advanced Tab. Read the details on the screen. Note: Changing this setting can have seriours consequences, as the default encoding of characters is changed. This means that characters other than the first 128 ASCII characters may appear differently in files after this setting is changed. Use with caution Change the setting to the language that you have installed on your Pocket PC. For example, I have "Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.). Click OK.
3) Reboot
4) Resync with ActiveSync.
>>> Update Note: The prior post was made with regard to ActiveSync 4.2, and with a WM2003SE ROM. These details may not be correct with regard to WM5 and the latest version of ActiveSync. It seems Windows Mobile 5 has better support for Unicode synchronisation.
I remember hearing about a chinese software called CE Star. Google for it..
There are two main issues here:
1) A Chinese language system that allows display of text in Chinese, along with Chinese input (for which PenPower/CE Star and Monster Chinese are solutions), and
2) The ability to synchronise data between Outlook and the PPC without losing the characters during synchronisation (eg. when inputting "龘龗蘇" as a name on the PC, avoiding it appearing on the PPC as "???").
To solve problem (1), look at PenPower or Monster Chinese. These products install a Chinese font on your system allowing display of Chinese characters, along with one or more SIP (soft input panel) items to allow input of text.
To solve problem (2), refer to my previous post in this thread (up two posts).
This is what I have managed to have running on my xda iis.
My Rom is wm5 BA Ported Himalaya.
Stable Arabic and English Dictionary
Arabic Reader
Arabizer
This enables keyboard and transcriber support for pda. It is possible to do. If you want to know more, I will try to help you, insha allah.
I'm studing arabic and I'm interested on that programs.
A used a wordpad but It wasn`t very good.
Can you confirm the dictionary is both ways translation?.

Well, AFAIK all i-mate phones - Arabic ROMs- ships with imaginet arabizer which is the best application for this purpose in this field as I know

Yes indeed, Imaginets Programs are what I am using. I Did not want the entire Arabic rom, however i did want Arabic support for my Pda. The dictionary is bi-directional translation...i.e translates from Eng to Arabic and Vice Versa.
I also wanted to post a cab installer for another good program. It is a suite which gives athan if you want when it is time to pray. It also has an arabic calender, moon, quran reciter, ...however when i try to attach this cab file the server takes 15 mins and crashes..any suggestions...here is a screen shot
Hello everyone. Here's a problem I have with my wing: when I send sms using greek keyboards (interkey keyboard and greek keyboard), the receiving party cannot see the greek characters.
I sent an sms to myself and I couldnt see it either!
this is what i sent:
ςερτυθιοπασδφγηξκλζχψωβνμΣΕΡΤΥΘΙΟΠΑΣΔΦΓΗΞΚΛΖΧΨΩΒΝΜ
this is what i received:
?????????????????????????Σ????Θ??Π?ΣΔΦΓ?Ξ?Λ??ΨΩ???
I'm using open touch biggy by ttran v.5
could someone please help me?
Btw, I'm not experiencing this problem when I end emails or write notes, docx etc. just sms.
its possible that the protocol that tmobile uses to send sms cant recognize greek characters. if this is true, you're pretty much SOL until tmo decides to change the system.
I'd stick to phonetic spellings for now
The GSM standard supports only the upper case Greek characters in what is called a 7 bit alphabet. Unicode characters, which is probably what you are sending are not supported by all SMS carrier gateways. I would look for a keyboard mapper that does map your keyboard to the 7 bit alphabet.
Having said that, I am still looking for one...
Hi,
I have a WinMob phone and my wife just got an LG Optimus S (both on Sprint).
We're bi-lingual (English / Russian). Both phones have US localization and 3rd party dual language keyboards.
I can both send and receive cyrillic SMS. She can only send them in cyrillic. I can read the SMS she sends from her phone but she can't read the SMS I send from mine (bunch of underscores). Since both phones are on the same network it's not operator related.
I don't know Android at all - this is my first exposure to it. On WinMob this would be related to encoding settings, however WM is very good at handling various encodings (at least in Microsoft's own applications). I did go through settings but I can't find a way to make it use Unicode in SMS; any help will be greatly appreciated !
Wow, this surely generated lots of attention ! 8(
Seems to be an Android-specific bug.
Sorry I will probably not be able to help you, but I encounter the same problem when I receive a message in French. What is weird is that it seems to affect only certain types of accents... Are you using the native SMS app or are you using Handcent as well?
By the way in Hancent there is options for several language formats, this being said it did not seem to work successfully for me but you will maybe have more luck.
