Imate and PermanentSave

got yesterday my imate. Wonderful device.
I have one question.
What does PermanentSave program (in Setting/System) perform (the manual is silent of this)?
I checked the 4 box for contact, calendar, appointment and task and now every time I soft reset start a syncronization process.
Does PermanentSave saves files into the Storage memory or in the Expanded Memory non generally accessible?
When and how can I do a restore?
Another question: Imate went to me with a file and a directory in the storage memory
the file:
RilNty_log date 1/9/03 of 953 bytes
the directory
PerSaveBackup
containing the following files
AppointmentProtectKey date 1/9/03of 0 byte
ConnectionProtectKey date 1/9/03 of 0 byte
TaskProtectKey date 1/9/03 of 0 byte
ContactsProtectKey date 1/9/03 of 0 byte
also after a softreset and a sync of permanetSave those files doesn't change neither date neither bytes.
Does the saving comes in theextendend rom not visible?
thanks
Anyone knows how to delete this folder (PerSaveBackup) in the Storage area?

I don't use permanent save; to disable it I removed the related files in the \windows\startup folder; there are 4 files whose name is something like aflashman.lnk,cflashman.lnk, etc
I do not remember exactly the names but the files in startup are so few that you cannot make mistakes; they all have the same icon.
At this point you can delete the directory in the storage simply using file manager.
Softreset first.
I did it sometimes and it worked.
Ciao
It was me, sorry

IMHO it's very important to use the permanent save feature because you can do a hard reset and get back ALL your Task, Contacts, Calendar appointments and conection settings.
All the data it's saved in the Storage Flash Ram.
The only thing you need to do to recover from a hard reset is check again the four checkboxes in Permanet save and ALL your data (Task, Contacts, Calendar appointments and Conection Settings) comes to live another time.
A Sprite BAckup solution it's better because can restore ALL your data and applications, but at no cost you can be safer using the Permanent save feature.
Only my 2cents....

Im already using Sprite Backup that is why I no longer need the permanent save feature of the XDAII. The PerSaveBackup folder in the Storage is becoming to be annoying since I cant delete it.
Thanks.

Where are the contacts stored on the phone?

Just wanting to know the location of where the contacts are stored when theyre on the phone?
For example, the text messages are stored in Windows > Messaging.
Thanks
Where are the contacts stored
all PIM data (contacts, appointments, tasks) are stored in the file 'pim.vol' which is located in the root entry.
Wolfgang
How to Manually Backup your Contacts, Appointments and Task or the PIM in WM2005?
Look here:
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=45
you also can use Sunnysoft Backup Manager to save all your data. You only have to rename the pim.vol to something else before restoring the data.
Wolfgang
presumably cemail.vol is the mail, will this work as well?
Flubster
Flubster,
if you can copy the file to another place it should work also.
Wolfgang
Just to say cemail.vol cannot be copied via file manager, resco file manager or windows. Any other way to get this file?
Flubster
OK, I wanted to backup the SMS's which was the main reason I wanted to backup the cemail.vol file. In the end I used the BackupSMS from a dopod WM2005 extended ROM and that worked fine

cannot delete [no sender] [no subject] sms

hi everyone
this morning i notice in my inbox folder i have 1 unread message which says " [no sender] [no subject]. i cannot open this sms neither to delete it. i've search around in the forum but i cannot find anyone discussing about this bugs. anyone knows how to delete this annoying sms and fix it?
thanx
cannot delete one stubborn SMS
Have you found a solution to your problem, i.e. one SMS can't be opened, or deleted.
i have the same situation in my Dopod D810 starting yesterday. no idea where that stupid SMS came from (no sender, no subject).
Appreciate if you can share your solution, if you found one.
same problem happens on mine today.. huhuhuu pliz help
A Possible Solution
This is how I got rid of such a message, without doing a hard reset.
Step 1: Backup (This step is not strictly necessary, but a good precaution. It served me.)
I used PIM Backup v2.8 (Messages only), a nice and free backup program you can download from this forum. Thank you, dotfred.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=no+sender
I also export all Databases with SKTools to a XML file. This way I could find out where the message is stored.
Step 2: Install and run dbviewsp.zip
I found it here
http://www.smartphonedn.com/libraries/dbviewsp.html
Thank you, Kenny Goers.
Step 3: Determine the right database (or folder)
Substep 3.1: Before
Switch to dbViewsp.
I presume the e-mail and text messages (SMS) are in the \cemail.vol database.
Note the number of records in each folder. Select the folders one by one and choose "Properties" from the "Menu".
Substep 3.2: "Backup" normal messages
Switch to Pocket Outlook.
Create a new temporary folder and move all "normal" e-mails or text messages of the original folder to the new one.
Notice the number of normal messages you have moved in the new folder.
Notice the number of undeletable messages you have left in the original folder.
Substep 3.3: After
Repeat Substep 3.1. You will notice two differences. The temporary folder you have created and the old one, that will now contain just a few records.
Step 4: Delete records.
You can delete these by selecting them and choosing "Delete Record" from the "Menu".
Step 5: Restore
Switch to Pocket Outlook.
Move all messages from the new temporary folder back to the original folder. Delete the new temporary folder.
That's it. It looks a lot, but it is less trouble than a hard reset.
History:
I tried Menu -> Tools -> Clear "Text Messages" in Pocket Outlook. This deletes all sent and received messages, even the ones I moved to the temporary folder except the "undeletable" ones!
I also tried a plugin InboxExtender.CAB and a little program cleanmail.zip, but both did not work.
Many many many Thanks, I had that same problem. One SMS that had no Sender neither subject. The only thing i did was eliminate (with that software) one record and VOILÁ...
I salute you from Portugal
Once more, many thanks.
I too had a [no subject] [no sender] SMS that had shown up in my Inbox that I couldn't delete and it was keeping me from being able to backup/sync my SMS messages with my PC.
Used WC's method above to move the messages into a temp folder, then delete the database record for the Inbox database and move the good messages back.
Worked like a charm!
Many Thanks!!
Works like a charm! Thanks!
Thanks a million, WC
I too had a [no subject] [no sender] SMS that had shown up in my Drafts that I couldn't delete on my new HTC HD2 running on WM 6.5
I followed your method and managed to get rid of that SMS

Save SMS

Does anyone know how to save recieved sms messages?
Normally the messages are being saved in the 'inbox' folder. Is there any possibility to save (a couple of) messages in another (self created) folder so you won't see it in the inbox anymore?
I have some folders under "Inbox" created in my previous Trinity. When i started using my HD i retrieved my backup of SMS and then I retrieved the folders. Well, I can move received SMS to a Subfolder using a verya strnge way: first I must delete the message, but not from the Touch Flo, I must enter in the Inbox (down-left option). After deleted, i go to the deleted folder and THEN I cna move it to my subfolder. But I can´t create a new subfolder at all
Hmmm. there has to be an easier way to do this!
Check this thread.

yes u can...there's a sub-delete folder in your device where u can find the deleted messages. If u already deleted them from that folder and if u previously sincronized your device with myphone, you can recover them from the myphone's website (in the archive's folder).
Were would the folder be located on the phone?
Is the folder accessable as I dont have the phone backed up on the software myphone?
If you have deleted the message from Inbox/Conversations folder, you can easily undelete it from the Deleted Items folder.
Click Menu > Deleted Items.
Scroll thru the messages and click on the message you want to undelete.
Click the right softkey "Undelete".
