Hi everyone, I have owned an XDA II for some time and have never got round to registering on this great site. On checking some of the posts on here I decided that enough was enough and it was time to get a new phone. On discovering the price of the MDA Compact via the Scancom website I ordered one. Arrived the next day and here we are!
The main reason why I choose this phone was the size. The XDA was simply too big and referred to as 'a brick' by most!
Being a newbie and reading through some posts, it seems that you can do rather a lot to these small devices! It anyone has a link to an overview of terms, (i.e Roms, overcooking, etc) that would be mostly appreciated.
Will be keeping my eyes peeled to this forum as the camera really does suck! If anyone has any way of upgrading this please let me know. It really is nowhere as crisp as the picture on the XDA II.
Hello Forum,
Once again i need help from all the pros here. I have two forms of Universals as an option for purchase. The O2 EXEC or the i-Mate JASJAR.
[big] PLEASE HELP ME IN CHOOSING WHICH ONE BY DISCUSSING THE SLIGHTEST DETAILS AND DIFFERENCES AMONGST THEM[/big]
ktEE
They are same hardware, you can use ROM flashing to change the rom between them...
One costs like £700, one costs £140
Ill leave the rest to you.
Look at this thread on the same subject. I personally would recommend the XDA Exec have owned the JJ and the Exec.

Hi,
my XDA Exec has got a dead screen - took the phone apart and found that the LCD coaxial has snaped.
Now i'm looking for XDA Exec spares - coaxial cable.
Where can I get such spare parts? Should I ask it from the HTC?
Thanks!
Told you this via eBay but you obviously didn't believe me eh?...
"You won't get one of those as a spare part other than from a broken handset unless you send your device directly to an authorised service centre for repair.
If you have opened your hinge too far and trapped the wires cutting them, it is possible to work out how to reconnect the broken wires in the hinge as I have previously done it myself."
Richard
Thanks for helping out!
The cable is fully snaped (twisted), because the screen has been rotated too much - all the wires are cut!
Is it really posible to connect all those tiny wires? How?
thanks again!

I wrote an answer detailing step by step how to do it with wiring diagram then realised it was you who outbid me for it on ebay so you're on your own. Sorry. Why should I help my competition?
Good Luck!
Richard
come on - this is ridiculous - I'm no competitor to you, I even don't make money with this.
I would never refuse to share my experience with people here, because we all have got something to share and we all sometimes need an advise!!
I'm not even form Uk... please give some advise if you can!
Thanks!

But you're buying MANY SPV / XDA faulty items from the UK site - if you're not making money then you're not very good at this eh?
You outbid me = you ARE my competitor.
You are buying faulty items and then asking for help to fix them to resell. No-one person could use all the devices you have bought recently, and you have to beg for help with basic repairs or fault finding for stuff that has not only been covered many times on this and other internet sites, but is also in some cases obvious.
I'll gladly help users with the odd problem or amateurs having a go at repairing friends / collegues devices etc etc but someone wanting my help with faulty devices they have bought has no chance.
I would rather help people who have problems with their existing devices. I do share my experiences, I have written many guides and how to's as well as answering questions, but when the question is from someone who is using my knowledge to profit in direct competition to me, hell yeah I'll keep it to myself.
You are not being honest. You say 'my XDA exec' when you received it in the post faulty 2 or 3 days ago at most.
My knowledge is from experience, I have experimented on many devices over the years breaking some of them in the process.
As for 'we all need advise' - feel free to check my posts here and on the other forums - I've NEVER asked for advice other than what colour phone to buy and even then I was joking....
What knowledge have you shared then? Today I wrote a stripdown manual for the new HTC StrTrk - it's on the internet
You are not the first with this problem, I have mentioned it several times, and if you would actually do a search rather than thinking you are so special and your issue so unique that your question demands a thread of it's own, you my find more info....
Richard
Good
Why such a hate!!!?
I'm not a liar - I have bought few phones and I'm looking only for cheap options such as buying faulty and trying to fix them - I now have sold all my phones - XV6600 can't be used in Europe, sold the old XDA 2i, bought a C500 as a present for my brother, still using the qtek 8020 and now just got the Exec...
you see - I'm not rich nor the people in my country - i can't afford to buy expensive phones in shops.
Ofcourse I'm a total beginer in this field and most of the time don't know what I'm doing, but still I have managed to find few solutions that nobody else had mentioned before - for example - you told me to get a new touchscreen for my XDA 2i due to screen align problem - but I found the old one to be good - i just made few experiments and I posted all the process in the forum...
And don't tell me you haven't asked for advice - look at your earlier posts year ago on modaco!!!
I don't know why are you so angry and full with hate - calling me competitor...
I was just considering to buy new housings for myself, for my brother and maybe in the future i would have bought some more parts from you if something would go wrong with my phones... but now - with such an attitude from you... I'm starting to reconsider it!!
Thanks for all the advices!!

Because you outbid me and have no idea how to repair the items you won so they are wasted on you.

They were never of the begging kind such as your questions like 'how do I do this' or 'can anyone please tell me' , they are always ' I have done this, here are pictures, how can I do it better?'
I explained my question thouroughly and then illustrated any answer I then came up with.

Hello dear all,
Just bought a P3300 today. (I am a noob at these things) After talking to the salesperson, he ensured that I will be able to change the language to English, I bought it. I plugged in the charger and found out that the device is in French.
After downloading all upgrades possible from this site. I still can not change the ROM. Invalid Vendor ID. Some people say that I need to upgrade the bootloader.
Not sure if this can be done on the artemis, or perhaps there just isnt anyone who has done it yet. At least I cant find the information.
Tomorrow I have to go back to the store and fight about returning this unit.
My advise is, buy this device in the correct language from the beginning.
If someone knows how to change the ROM when this happens before tomorrow, I would appriciate it dearly.
Regards,
Johan
well, by flashing your device from French to English ROM (WWE) you will immediatelly invalidate your warranty. carefull now!
Just my 2cents...
I dont really care about the warranty.. All I wanted was my phone in English. I will be able to get a new phone, with the contract that I have got with my supplier. But you know how it is, you get a new toy, you want to play with it.
Why not have it exchanged with an English version?
I have same situation. How you find solution?
gee, here we go once again:
in order to be able to change the language on your device you MUST reflash with an english rom from a compatible device.
This though is only possible once your device is CID unlocked; a special security section in your device.
Only known way to do this is via http://www.imei-check.co.uk/c3unlock.php
and costs (apx. EUR 28.00 / USD 38.00).
After this unlocking you can flash the tmouk and dopod rom (all wwe) from the wiki. ( at least on all artemis and all hero)
If you do not cid unlock, you will get "wrong modelID"
Greetz
good work, now we need only UNL code ....
The UNL File is unique for every IMEI and flashes only the Device that has this IMEI. The Unlocker for the Hermes was very well done, because some smart people reversed the process from imei-check.co.uk and wrote a working program, but so far i think noone is making real adavances in this matter, so if you desperately need your device CID Unlocked, only way for you is pay imei-check :/
for now.........
This is my first post so I hope the wolves will stay back. My post is for those of you who are new as I am. I bought the O2 Xda Orbit for Christmas and since it was my first PDA-, smart phone-, device, I did not realize that the language could not be changed until I got it home. After many calls to O2 both here in Germany and the UK, I tried my luck with HTC. HTC ofcourse, will not touch the phone since it is branded with the O2 logo. There are NO Orbits in Germany from O2 in the English language version. In desperation, I called Microsoft customer service and again met with a dead end although I was inpressed with the customer service person who desperately tried to help me. It was Microsoft that directed me to this site. I will try not to bore everyone with all the details, but here is what I found out.
You can not do ANYTHING with the phone until the "super lock" (aka CID lock) is "unlocked". I tried one of those cheap places that charge 7 pounds, and the numbers and methods they gave me do not work. (You get what you pay for.)
My advise to anyone who may be new to this and wants to proceed anyway, is to keep your nose to this forum. There is a website posted in this thread that recommends http://www.imei-check.co.uk/c3unlock.php. I plan on trying this site to unlock my phone and then the next step will be to wait for someone to develop a RUU for the Orbit or HTC 3300. This phone is new on the market and all the hacks and updates are just not there yet.
If the day comes that I feel brave, I plan on using the RUU named ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP also found on this site. I hooked it up to my Orbit and ran the program, but because the CID is not unlocked, I got the dreaded "INVALID MODEL ID" message.
In reading all the posts and following the threads, I know more about my phone than I ever thought was possible. The more you learn, the more you can weigh the risks versus the benefits, or what your chances are of success. This is now a hobby for me. I love reading about everyone else's "adventures" and I think there are valuable lessons to be learned in the trials of those who bravely go before us.
The only other option is for us all to pitch in and buy the phone for $599 from http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11719610/Xda_Orbit_Brand_New_PDA.html. I think they are $399 if you buy 10. This is a great deal for those who's home country uses the Euro. This may be the source of all those "CID-unlocked" phones on Ebay! You have to ask yourself, where are these people getting these brand new phones, CID unlocked and in ENGLISH!
Should I crash my device, I am prepared to go to the HTC website and shell out the money for a device in English with TomTom and all the bells and whistles installed. It will be CID unlocked and I will have HTC behind me for customer service and be free to use my device to it's full potential. I will try to keep the newbies posted on my progress, but in the mean time, I will read the forum religiously everyday and learn as much as I can. Somebody out there has the ROM for my Orbit, and I know it's only a matter of time.....
Welcome to the forum KleineMaus. I honestly would like to congratulate you for not being one of those newcomers who don't introduce themselves and just post a question that has been asked a million times without first reading forum rules and searching, and expect an immediate answer.
Anyway, have fun here and hopefully we can all be of help.

Hi Kleine Maus,Did you manage to find any solution so far? I have bought a new HTC P3300 (I guess the same device gets called in 5 or 6 different ways) and with the Dutch OS I cannot do much with it! If anyone out there has any solution to bring this nice toy to communicate in good old English I would be very grateful indeed. Ciao, Siper

I have an HTC Universal (purchased on ebay and labeled O2 XDA EXEC). I am having trouble finding someone in the states that can help me update it, etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am willing to send it to someone for these fixes.
Thank you
